My seventh grade civics teacher (who sponsored the jam club and loved music) showed me this song over 5 years ago and I learned to play it on the baritone ukulele. Last night he passed away from a heart attack without having gotten to retire and leaving and wife and 16 year old son. This was the first song I heard by the Avett Brothers and they have since become my favorite band. I went to their concert last summer and I didn’t know it at the time, but my teacher was there too with his son. I just wanted to share his favorite quote with you, “live as if you are going to die tomorrow, learn as if you are going to live forever.” Mr P, you didn’t get to live forever on earth but you have changed the lives of so many young people. I am forever grateful for your impact on my life and I’m praying for your family. Love, Lily
But in his inspiration to you and i'm sure many others does he not live forever in some way? Passing on that knowledge and fellowship is a great way to live on through your legacy
I've always been a fan of the "rougher", live recordings. If you do too, a lot of artists do a recording called "The Magnolia Sessions". It's recorded either near or under a magnolia tree & you can hear the cicadas and frogs and such. I absolutely love it ✌️
This is one of the best replies I've ever seen! I laughed my butt off! Maybe it's because I just love this video....this and the dog hooked me on the Avett's!

Right there with you, Jenny!! Unfortunately, we don’t have the talent today that we were blessed with years ago. I do love these guys, though…..all are so gifted!!
I nearly lost two of my fingertips nearly a year ago. This is a song I used to cover, and I happened to hear it a few days ago. I stopped playing guitar after my accident due to some nerve damage that made the pain unbearable to pinch the strings. The inspiration I get from these guys is so pressing that I went against myself and picked the guitar again. I had no problem picking the strings again. It's really funny how lots of people have commented on the roundup jug, without realizing the irony of it considering the lyrics of the song. Talk on things we don't know about....
Sometimes when I’m laying in bed I think of when I was talking of things I didn’t know about and I feel stupid and foolish. If I dwell on it too much I can’t go into public.
8 years...still awesome. Love you guys, love this song. People use round-up. Lots of people, lots of weeds, lots of round up. Poison ivy in the piedmont of NC is savage... Some commenters think it's a pesticide? Wow. Quit judging everything.
THIS SONG IS CALLED TEN THOUSAND WORDS; IT HAS TEN THOUSAND LIKES; IT WAS UPLOADED IN 2010; THE SYNCHRONICITIES THAT ARE HAPPENING TO ME IN THIS MOMENT AND THIS ENTIRE DAY HAVE BEEN BLOWING MY EVER LOVING MIND. 🤯🕉☤
Absolutely love this video! Nothing as pure as a work trailer, bare feet, shorts and boots topped off by the most adorable dog in a better-than-concert performance 🥰. Sorry that I just discovered them!
I found this song because of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, he had Matt Paxton from Hoarders as a guests and he raved about how good these guys are...I listen to this tune a few times each day to find center...Awesome tube, great lyrics and shakes me to the core.
NC native myself now living in Utah and I just saw them in Red Rocks and I concur with smturner1008...absolutely took me right home...and rocked solid too! It was an experience I can't wait to have again. Oh! And my 13 year old daughter loved it too! The generations agree!

It's amazing how a song recording in a trailer on a handheld camera can sound better than a studio-produced album.

Ten thousand words swarm around my head
Ten million more in books written beneath my bed
I wrote or read them all when searchin' in the swarms
Still can't find out how to hold my hands
And I know you need me in the next room over
But I am stuck in here all paralyzed
For months I got myself in ruts
Too much time spent in mirrors framed in yellow walls
Ain't it like most people? I'm no different
We love to talk on things we don't know about
Ain't it like most people? I'm no different
We love to talk on things we don't know about
And everyone around me shakes their head in disbelief
And says I'm too caught up
They say young is good and old is fine
And truth is cool but all that matters
Is that you have your good times
But their good times come with prices
And I can't believe it when I hear the jokes they make
At anyone's expense except their own
Would they laugh if they knew who paid?
Ain't it like most people? I'm no different
We love to talk on things we don't know about
Ain't it like most people? I'm no different
We love to talk on things we don't know about
And after we are through ten years
Of making it to be the most of glorious debuts
I'll come back home without my things
'Cause the clothes I wore out there
I will not wear 'round you
And they'll be quick to point out our shortcomings
And how the experts all have had their doubts
Ain't it like most people? I'm no different
We love to talk on things we don't know about
Ain't it like most people? I'm no different

I periodically come back to this video bc it ranks in my favorites! And as a Doberman person, I love seeing yours!
How does any "thumbs down" this masterpiece
Definitely a real blues dog. This is a very performance of a great song in a great setting! Well done, guys. Success to you.
Sometimes when I’m laying in bed I think of when I was talking of things I didn’t know about and I feel stupid and foolish. If I dwell on it too much I can’t go into public.
I have to forgive myself so many more time than I have to forgive others.
The MOST down to earth band to walk this planet. They are also in one of the single most talented bands ever.
The dog is definetly enjoying the music hahahah
I’ve watched/listened to this so many times for so many years and I still love it so much.
Scary to think that 33 people with that little-of-a-clue are actually running around out there.
That is a low estimate imho, this is murica, where some people dont trust science or know what is good tunes
Just like home, for me. My cousin and I used to sit around and sing all the time, miss that. You guys are great.
all this video is missing is a cold beer and a hot fire.
and no round up
I don't know how many times I have watched this & today is the 1st time I noticed they are sitting in little kid chairs :D Cute!
Hey kids, that's called a guitar and vocals.
Winner☝🏻
Who Cares and a whole lotta soul
Timeless
For REAL!
What a fun, condescending comment insulting the intelligence of anyone trying to find some new music
Absolutely love this video! Nothing as pure as a work trailer, bare feet, shorts and boots topped off by the most adorable dog in a better-than-concert performance 🥰. Sorry that I just discovered them!
That dog really wants someone to pay attention to him.
Sometimes you come across a piece of magic. Thanks 🙏
mooi mooi
I found this song because of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, he had Matt Paxton from Hoarders as a guests and he raved about how good these guys are...I listen to this tune a few times each day to find center...Awesome tube, great lyrics and shakes me to the core.
If you watch this video and listen to this song and the thing that concerns you most is a jug of Roundup...you missed the point.
+Nodeninja I *love* the bottle of Roundup there. :-) And the dawg. AND THE SONG! Fantastic all around.
I didn't even notice it until I read your comment.
+Nodeninja you are correct. I hope this is a catalyst that may open their eyes.... damn,
+Nodeninja Dont blame them for they not know
Wish I was that jug of roundup!
This is one of my all time favorites. Such great lyrics, amazing vocals and all around superb Avettiness.
Wait, 10,000 words wasn't acoustic in the first place?
Everytime i hear this song i listen so many times. Love the older stuff so much. So relatable & deep.
almost looks like ashton kutcher in this one lol
This takes me back to my childhood. I absolutely adore it! Listened to it at least 10,000 times. ;)
If all you can think about is the roundup after watching this, you shouldn't be here...
They are on there families farm in concord don't over think things
NC native myself now living in Utah and I just saw them in Red Rocks and I concur with smturner1008...absolutely took me right home...and rocked solid too! It was an experience I can't wait to have again. Oh! And my 13 year old daughter loved it too! The generations agree!
If roundup is good enough for the brothers avett it's good enough for me
Active ingredient in RoundUp is glyphosate. Kills butterflies and most everything else.
Source: www.baumhedlundlaw.com/toxic-tort-law/monsanto-roundup-lawsuit/where-is-glyphosate-banned/
Most of the glyphosate restrictions or bans throughout the world were introduced following the 2015 IARC report on glyphosate. The IARC report concluded that glyphosate is a “probable human carcinogen.”
According to the report, the cancers most associated with glyphosate exposure were found to be non-Hodgkin lymphoma and other hematopoietic cancers. The report further concluded that glyphosate exposure caused DNA and chromosomal damage in human cells, as well as genotoxic, hormonal and enzymatic effects in mammals.
Other glyphosate studies have linked the chemical to a number of health issues, including, but not limited to ADHD, Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism, Birth Defects, various forms of cancer, Celiac Disease, Colitis, Heart Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, Kidney Disease, Liver Disease, and Parkinson’s Disease.
Many years shall pass. And this will remain. Thank you for your efforts.
love the roundup and clorox
... and according to the degradation of my surrounding landscape, you are not the only one...
You guys never cease to amaze! You have a very lucky dog.
2019 anybody?
Yee
2020
Absolutely awesome! I used to sit with my friends and pick on our porches and just jam, and your videos take me way back! thanks guys!
AMAZING.... but it sucks that theres a jug of ROUNDup in the corner.....
Scott is so gruff and very straight forward and mesmerizing and Seth comes in with an effortlessly beautiful voice, like always. The two together is the best thing to happen to music ever. Ever.
i'm sure my friend laurel would like this song but i think she's still under the weather from Christmas Day and night. i know she still has the hillbilly in her..
