Hi I'm coach Collin Castellaw with Shot Mechanics.com and today we are going to learn Kobe Bryant's signature spin move. Now Kobe Bryant is one of the NBA's masters at footwork and one reason why he is one of the best scorers on the planet and one of the best scorers to ever play the game. So let's break down his signature spin move to a finish and we will see how he does it. There are a couple easily learned keys to Kobe's spin move. It all begins with your first dribble, this should be a pound dribble launching the ball back up to your hand. The harder the pound the quicker it will launch you into you spin. The next key is for Kobe Bryant to keep the ball close to his body on his spin move this not only protects the ball from the D but it makes him spin faster . Think about if you were spinning on a swing if you kick your legs out you spin slower. The last key is to make sure your first step out of the spin moves lands past the defenders hip. Notice that because Kobe Bryant extends his las step so far the defenders feet are crossed and they have no chance to recover. Notice that as soon as he comes out of his spin Kobe locates his target as quickly as possible. Once you beat your defender a few times with this move you might want to counter with the Mini Shimmy. So just remember one of the most important parts of a spin move is that you have to pound that basketball into the ground on your last dribble to get your body to whip around. FYI High School ball players: This move is ONLY LEGAL IN THE NBA. YOU WILL be called for traveling if you Don't "legally" execute the move. IT IS TRAVELING if you pick your pivot foot up AND put it back down on the floor BEFORE you shoot/pass the ball OR if you've discontinue your dribbling upon completion of the move.
yeah you dont know shit, when you do a spin move your pivot foot is the one you land on AFTER the spin, not the foot you spin on. how tf can a spin move work if you cant lift the foot you spin on?

IF you are a BASKETBALL OFFICIAL (or H.S. Varsity Coach), you should be EMBARRASSED by that definition/reasoning. I refer you to NFHS Rule Book, Chapter 4, section 33 and the 2017 NFHS POE, page 10.
IF you are merely a FAN, my apologies, the aforementioned is probably somewhat beyond your level of comprehension and understanding. While certain moves and actions in college and the pros are allowed at those levels, H.S. Basketball players must adhere to the rules and interpretations as outlined in the NFHS (National Federation of High School Sports) publication. College and the NBA rules are far "less stringent".
High School officials (and coaches) know and understand that difference. Unfortunately, the fans aren't always "in tune" with that, thus why you're a "fan

DZ Harris i played hs varsity ball, funny how i never got called for a travel everytime i did a spin move. i feel sorry for the players you "officiate" when you call basic spin moves as travels, you must think olajuwon as the biggest travelling player ever lol

First comes the pivot foot then comes the other foot any other step other than those will be considered a travel

It is technically a extended pivot Kendrick Wade some international leagues may call it but in the states you are good to go 100% of the time :)
I agree! I play in Australia and this would always be travel because after the ball comes to rest he lands his pivot foot, rotates and comes down in a stagger = 3 steps. THATS A TRAVEL.
