the higher end cameras are most noticeable in the greens, the fx9 just looks way better in the green tones than even the a7siii
More accurate and properly saturated greens tend to be a defining feature of the colour for most cinema cameras.

Already pre-ordered the a7siii but just want to quickly say that one benefit of the zv-1, which we also have, is how closely it can focus! It’s almost like having a macro lens and personally I love it for close up product videos in 120p.
The FX9 is still king but the A7SIII would be such a great B-Cam for it.
Also, to get tricky shots in small spaces, the A7SIII will be more than perfect.
With the S3 they are also not getting kicked out from everywhere in LA

The best camera is the one you have with you right? If that’s still the case, the ZV-1 is my guy. Put it in my pocket or bag and get going, and I won’t feel weird in public filming.

Could identify all cameras instantly. There just something about these "magical" highlights roll offs on cinema cameras. I think A7S3 is great, but I didn't expect still such a big difference to FX9. Those colors... 😍 Only missed the ARRI...
Agree, Sony haven't "matched" colours with the fx9, let alone the Venice. Really disappointing.

@@alexmeier19 I think colour is one of the few things not really affected by body size at all. Some tiny cams have great colour, fuji eterna, BMCPP, etc. I think again it is Sony wanting to make sure there is a clear difference between cine and ML cam lineup. On the B&H panel discussion even the Sony ambassador gently suggests it would be nice if Sony could match the colours better.
@@olly5896 Fuji Eterna is objectively inaccurate colour and the BMPCC4k/6k also don't match the higher end Blackmagic cameras.

Like the c100ii vs a7siii to see if the old "Magic sauce" is better than the New Mirroless King ? To have something in the same price range you know ?

Is it just me or does the FX9 footage have a SINGLE stuck/red pixel on the low light footage??!
It does, but that can be fixed by running APR.
It also has a white pixel in the lower left.
And the A7SIII has dust on the sensor.
Yeah, you just have to run APR and it gets fixed. When we first got ours I freaked because I started noticing it but after a quick google, it was fixed haha
It has 3... The red one is pretty obvious, but there's also a blue one below it and white toward the lower left corner.
I'm always confused when it comes to shooting in log. Doesn't this mean that you shoot pretty much with no colors out of the box, and that later on, you add colors when doing color grading? In that case, how can it be that the ZV1 colors are not good when shooting in log? Wouldn't it look better by doing a better color grading? (I'm sure the same process was applied to the other cameras though). Not sure what's automatic and what's manual...
Log is not as flexible in the zv1 because of the 8 bit codec that creates artifacts in the image (like color banding in the sky)
Noooo haha, that's not what log is. The information is there, but it processes it into a logarithmic curve so when viewing in a Rec.709 color space it looks washed out. In the color correction stage, you normalize it, bringing it into the range of the color space you're working on. Some curves, like Slog-3, are more aggressive, and can be better if the camera has enough bit depth, but on the case of 8bit, it can't handle all the information, and when bringing it back, you realize that you actually lost the details that should be there
3:54 Sam's shirt looks blue on the ZV1 and A7S III but looks gray on the FX9...what gives? Hard to color match I see! LMAO 😂😂😂!

well, it makes sense. it's because when the previous eos r and a7iii, a7iii looks really really bad when you color grade it while eos r has 400 mbits, now sony has high bitrate and 10bit with no overheating. say no more

@@shzammpatapon9865 It DOES have overheating. At 4K 60p it overheats quicker than the R5 outdoors in the heat. Dan Watson has made 2 videos comparing them.

A7SIII still has more magenta skin tones then FX9, Sony needs to lower that, also slightly reduce sharpness

The R6 is constantly ignored but nobody thinks that it doesn't overheat and it's great. Cheaper than the Sony and not much more expensive than the EOS r

well according to canon rumors they are actually working to address the overheating issue , if they manage to keep it not overheat at least in 4k60HQ for at least an hour that the r5 would definitely be the smarter purchase

Man Sony A7s3 overheats quicker than R5. ..just watch Dan Watson videos ..He has shown it ...And Canon R5 is not 12 MP garbage ..it's a hybrid Camera ..Sony A7s3 never gonna catch yo R5 or R6 this year ..you agree or not Canon R5 and R6 gonna rule ...

The thing with cameras is that they're all so expensive and have very similar features.
I really just want to get the best bang for my buck honestly.
On the other hand, the BMCC is looking pretty good but super expensive... so there's that.
ZV-1 is $750 and I think it will go down more during Black Friday.
I would buy the bmpcc over these two camera's (and even over the r5). It has a great big screen, great dynamic range, lenses are cheaper, cinematic feeling and half the price of the s3.
You can get the original BMPCC (2012) for around $300 with accessories at the moment and even though it caps out at 1080p30fps it can film in CinemaDNG RAW & ProRes 422, produces some incredible quality footage with (imo) unmatched colour science,, and of course it uses micro 4/3 lenses which are much cheaper 👀

Pretty cool stuff. I can barely see the difference, but I'm still waiting for a C100 mkiii. Canon's cinema side grips are way more comfortable to use than any dslr/mirrorless.
To me A looked the worst, was surprised it was the A7SIII. If anything I’m impressed with the ZV-1 that little cam is awesome! Hit me up if you want to use the R5 😉

Can you try the FX9 grip on the a7sIII since the FX9 grip has that Multi connector. Would be sick to be able to use it plug and play.

The FX9 is incredible. There's just something about the image that sets it apart from mirrorless or DSLR style cameras. I would say it has everything to do with dynamic range and color science. I am also really impressed with the A7Siii. And personally, I think the colors are better than the other two. FX9 was constantly shifted towards green.
I got all 3 correct. ZV-1 is clearly worse than the other two. The color doesn’t have the same amount of details. A7siii and FX9 is closer, but the high dynamic range shot into the sun from the FX9 is just so much better. Great content!
Potato Jet🥔 , there is a question about the new a7s iii that I want to ask you. I’m using a7r iii at the moment, when I film in 4K with external monitor, as soon as I start record the screen on the camera will turn black leaving the time and record information on the screen. And I couldn’t see if I’m recording on the external monitors as well. It works on 1080 mode but not 4K. Did Sony fix this problem yet? Some video 2-3 years ago mention this as well, and they still haven’t fix it.
When filming in 4K screen turns black on the camera, and external screen won’t display camera info. But if filming in 1080 camera screen won’t turn black and external monitors can display camera information.

Camera A had the Focusing and colors right on. Camera B had the "over sharpening" that most point and shoot tend to do. And Camera C had the filmic LOOK (it's hard to describe), but actually that is the first camera I guessed! Than A= a7siii, and that left out Cam B as ZV1. Great video as always.
Using magic hour for that skate/bike park shoot was a good move.

a7siii is cool but it still has that very distinct mirrorless look. The cinema camera looks beautiful in the shadows and the highlight roll off. Colors are so pleasing to the eye too.

Not fair for the ZV-1! You said you shot in Log3 but also that Log3 falls apart quickly on the ZV-1 / Rx100. Would have loved to see a comparison between the other two cameras or a film camera and ZV-1 in HLG with the Potatojetpack LUT! :-)

This is refreshing to hear. The FX9 user groups on Facebook are full of people crying that the FX9 is no good anymore now that the A7Siii exists. But it's nice to see the differences. I love my FX9 and don't have plans to sell it even though the A7Siii has convinced me to completely ditch Blackmagic and Panasonic and not jump over to Canon.
The FX9 and A7sIII aren't really comparable. For completely different markets.
I think the FX9 has the edge over the A7sIII because of the 6K downsample to 4K. Probably uses higher quality bayer filters as well.
It's very interesting that you are so humble, at the same time is the one who goes to the key aspects and present them very cleanly.
