      It wouldn't matter. As Anakin lost the moment he didn't arrest him right after he heard the Tragedy of Darth Plageuis. He's a damn General at that point. It was very public but that would have been more poignant. Sidious clearly knew. He chose that super public opera house to finally tell Anakin who he is. And when Anakin didn't do anything right then and there he knew he won. It was over. The vision controlled him after the loss of his mother.

    • @Axterix13
      @Axterix13 Рік тому +5

      I wouldn't say it is perfect. It definitely has its weaker moments, like that baby Hutt. And while having the 2-4 episode arcs is great, the thing that is missing is an overall feel of the war. It is always "things are bad here, send in a big name Jedi!" Basically, feels like a show written with an indefinite run-length, mostly for syndication, where you can watch the various 2-4 episode arcs in any order, rather than one that knew it had a story to tell about a war that lasts X years, and exactly how things went in that war ahead of time. You only really lose this aspect when you get to the end game, as they approach Order 66, but even then, you never get a focus on the overall state of the galaxy.
      This is why I prefer Rebels overall. You get a better feel of the overall progress, of how things are changing. But on the flip side, my favorite character from those shows is Ventress. Both are good stuff.

    I think the scene that really cements (at least for me) the Clone Wars as not just a show for kids, but something that can absolutely be watched by adults happens in S1E21 (It's the Ryloth arc). Wat Tambor just straight up says: "Target every Twi'lek village in range, the inhabited ones first" as Hyena bombers take off. To which the scene changes to a column of AT-TEs and a clone reporting to his commanding officer that the scouts reported only civilians (mainly women and children) were left in the village ahead of them. Then the sensors start blaring notifying the clones that bombers are in their sector. Then the clone wars animators just immediately show us the village being carpet bombed, completely ignoring the very viable military targets near the village.
    Need I say more. (I do). It all happens so quickly and it really doesn't advance the plot much. Yet he Clone Wars crew still created this scene, for what I assume to be their fidelity to convey the reality of war. Even if it is in a galaxy far, far away.

      Slavery has been part of Star Wars since the first few minutes of Episode IV - droids in the SW universe are essentially slaves.
      When the clone army was introduced in Episode II, let's face it - they're a mind-controlled slave army. They turned out to be some of the greatest heroes in the SW universe, but they were bred to be mind-controlled, brainwashed slaves from the moment they were decanted. And the Republic, which presumably had laws against slavery, turned a blind eye to it because they needed soldiers to prosecute their war against the Separatists.

    For me, it is Maul's storyline in Rebels. There's just this vibe that he's tired of living. He never quite comes out and says it, but it is there, right from when he shows up at the Sith temple. He's rooted in the ways of the Sith, so turning away from the darkside doesn't even occur to him. He must struggle, he must fight, and therefore, the only peace, or, if you will, the only freedom, he can hope to find is in death. And so there he is, seeking out Obi-won, probably still telling himself he wants vengeance, but what he really wants is for Obi-won to kill him, to finish what was started on Naboo.

    I also love how the second Clovis storyline goes, as it is a very adult subject about how it is often necessary for a would-be dictator or an actual tyrant being able to get complete control of the banking system and thus the treasures that it provides. Without forcing Clovis, who was trying to be an honorable man, into the moves that compelled the Republic to send an invasion force and then grant complete control of the pecuniary system that is banking to Palpatine, Palpatine would not have been as fiscally strong as he was when he reorganized the Republic into the Galactic Empire. This in turn meant that Palpatine had the currency to grease the palms of select individuals to keep himself in power and to empower his military to crush anyone that resisted his reign.

    It was the Twi’lek slave girl on Zygeria jumping off the balcony to her death when the queen of Zygeria suggested she go back to “processing.” That one was a little rough. The begging, the fear, and then the self-endgame was.. Heavy.

    One thing that confounds me about Obi-Wan is the fact that he did not use his relationship with Satine as a point of empathy with Anakin. Oni-Wan could have made a better attempt to connect with Anakin's fear of loss and it may have gotten Anakin to trust him enough to open up to him more about Padme. The two of them could have really bonded over each of their personal attachments with the women in their lives.

    Not from any of the shows but from JFO- the whole thing with Cere betraying Trilla to the Empire, the scene in which a teenage Trilla (so still a child in the eyes of us older fans) being tortured by the Empire, and the implication of what happened to the children Trilla was looking after and meant to protect. Trilla can't have been any older than 19 (so still a baby in the eyes of someone in their late 20s), and having siblings that are currently the age she would have been, the idea of someone that age being sold out, tortured brutally, and very possibly forced to watch the execution of children she knew and cared for is a pretty hard idea to stomach. I love that game, but the torture cut scene specifically is always really hard to sit through, especially since you can't skip it

    On a scale of one to 40K, I'd say these shows put SW in SG-1 territory. Some dark things, but the good guys are on the whole entertainingly heroic. Legends materials push it up the scale, possibly approaching Brigador levels when you start getting into things like Entechment, the Caamas Incident, and the Yuuzhan Vong arc.

Next one would be the false orders by the rebels to basically eliminate the imperial garrison without option of surrender available.

    These things aren't just dark, they're sophisticated. They're layered. They require some investment to fully understand and appreciate.
    They're also beautifully crafted pieces of cinematic art. They are the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being. Even though some of the human beings are human only in the metaphorical sense.

She is in a really messed up state when kenobi arrives in deathwatch armor to free her, and when she sees the deathwatch armer, she says “here to do your master’s ‘bidding’?” While being uncharacteristically reserved, yet with a fear in her face.
