So I just finished building my wooden cage for my piggies and I have a little bit of advice. You want your timber boards to be as flush as possible so that your piggies can't chew them. If you're having a hard time getting them perfect some aquarium sealant is safe for animals and can be used. I also used non toxic craft vinyl for the flooring which is easier to attack than pond liner or linoleum because it sticks right down. Most craft stores sell it. Also you need to make sure that your boards are heat treated wood and non chemical or pressure treated. Those can be dangerous for you to even be around, let alone your piggies. Also Ecos sells amazing pet safe paint if you want to paint your cage!

Here there are several people who make their own cat trees with cool designs and they are so much better than the ones at pet stores. I would have loved a cage like yours when I had my guinea pigs!

Looks surprisingly simple. I'll be moving to London before I get piggies so I'm sure I can find a place to cut it. The balcony is intended to be their home combined with a hutch, if I use pond liner over the cut to spec wood and drill the additional parts in I'll have the balcony glass and doors as a cage entrance and barrier. I may leave part of the balcony without a wood cover. I'll get a good hutch for them, might get some form of electric heating in the winter to make sure they're comfy and line the bottom of their cages with newspaper (or bin liners? something disposable that will soak up poop and pee to make cleaning a bit easier - put on gloves, scoop all into bin liner, wash out separate toys in sink, set up again).

You can get hooks like that at home depot, or a similar store. You can ask someone their how to build it, but the hatch were it's put in can be but with wood.

I love the cage so much. I am looking to make a large cage big enough for 4 to 6 piggies to enjoy. But I have to cover the top somehow because I have a small dog and a house cat. The dog isn't much trouble but the cat loves getting in mischief lol

I know what you mean! I live in the US and there are places that will cut the wood, etc. I'm not that talented with building things like this so I think I'm going to call one of those "handyman" businesses to see if they would do this project and how much they'd charge.
I have the same problem. We have 3 cats and a Beagle. The cats are good with our older pig in fact our older piggy Kyra will nip at the cats when then get too close when she is sitting on my lap. She's very possessive of me. She doesn't even like when my daughter gets too close but she never nips any other time but when she is on me. I was thinking of maybe using the grids from my C & C cage somehow as a removable top when I am not there to keep an eye on everyone. My cats have never even made a move on them during floor time but they still have that instinct and I know I could never trust them totally. Good luck with your topper. I use fleece in my Guinea's cage and its alot cheaper and easier to clean. I have 3 layers in their cage. First layer on the bottom is some thick black plastic trash bags, second layer is puppy pads, and third layer on top is the fleece

I know the cage I have cage is too small but my parents won't let me get/make a bigger cage. I know it's cruel to keep them but I just can't make myself can't get rid of them. Is it possible to keep them in a small cage but take them out to run every day?

Very helpful, and we actually made a cage really close to yours about a week ago. My cage was made at my father's house though, so I cannot give any information on how my Guineas are reacting to it. We have three little piggies (Patches, Bella, Buffy) but we don't have the money to fix Patches atm so Buffy (his daughter, he also got Bella pregnant before-hand) is pregnant, so we might have around 2-4 more little guineas. Is a 2x1 meter cage with one level large enough for 5-7 guineas? Thanks!
I really am looking to get 2 guinea pigs because they are so precious and I’ve always wanted some so I want the best for them. Can you give me some advice like how many hides would you have for them and what kind of food? Do you need fleece liners?
How do you clean the cage? We have a cage that we bought from the pet store (thick and green plastic cage). We also have some bedding but usually after one or two weeks, with all of the smell from the Guinea Pigs drops, we usually have to clean the whole cage with water to get rid of those smells. With this big wooden cage, is this the same case too? Is it hard to clean up?

I love the cage so much. I am looking to make a large cage big enough for 4 to 6 piggies to enjoy. But I have to cover the top somehow because I have a small dog and a house cat. The dog isn't much trouble but the cat loves getting in mischief lol

That cage looks really good and I bet it works. I was only wondering that did you make the waterbottle holder or did you buy it somewhere also how manu squear meters of room should I have for 2 or 3 guinea pigs? Hope you see this and sorry if I wrote somethin wrong, I’m from Finland❤️

I know what you mean! I live in the US and there are places that will cut the wood, etc. I'm not that talented with building things like this so I think I'm going to call one of those "handyman" businesses to see if they would do this project and how much they'd charge.

I have the same problem. We have 3 cats and a Beagle. The cats are good with our older pig in fact our older piggy Kyra will nip at the cats when then get too close when she is sitting on my lap. She's very possessive of me. She doesn't even like when my daughter gets too close but she never nips any other time but when she is on me. I was thinking of maybe using the grids from my C & C cage somehow as a removable top when I am not there to keep an eye on everyone. My cats have never even made a move on them during floor time but they still have that instinct and I know I could never trust them totally. Good luck with your topper. I use fleece in my Guinea's cage and its alot cheaper and easier to clean. I have 3 layers in their cage. First layer on the bottom is some thick black plastic trash bags, second layer is puppy pads, and third layer on top is the fleece

How much room should each guinea pig have? I have 2 and i'm planning on making a larger cage for them.
At least 2x3 for a C&C cage.
I know the cage I have cage is too small but my parents won't let me get/make a bigger cage. I know it's cruel to keep them but I just can't make myself can't get rid of them. Is it possible to keep them in a small cage but take them out to run every day?

Very helpful, and we actually made a cage really close to yours about a week ago. My cage was made at my father's house though, so I cannot give any information on how my Guineas are reacting to it. We have three little piggies (Patches, Bella, Buffy) but we don't have the money to fix Patches atm so Buffy (his daughter, he also got Bella pregnant before-hand) is pregnant, so we might have around 2-4 more little guineas. Is a 2x1 meter cage with one level large enough for 5-7 guineas? Thanks!

How do you clean the cage? We have a cage that we bought from the pet store (thick and green plastic cage). We also have some bedding but usually after one or two weeks, with all of the smell from the Guinea Pigs drops, we usually have to clean the whole cage with water to get rid of those smells. With this big wooden cage, is this the same case too? Is it hard to clean up?
