  • A TFW ride from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury. I had a ride on a TFW class 158 along the Aberystwyth branch of the Cambrian line, as I was making my way home from my carriage stay in Wales. It sure was VERY scenic!

Great route - well captured. The trouble with take-away tea is that they shove a teabag in the cup but give you nothing to put it in once it's brewed - so it makes a mess. The phantom tea drinker could, however, have binned the thing!

I literally took this same ride last week. Just got back from a week long trip to the UK and we stayed in Shrewsbury for most of the week. Our day trip to Aberyswyth was a little more adventurous. Our train was cancalled at Machynllyth (have fun pronouncing that haha) due to flooding on the line and the first rail replacement bus wasn't sure they would be able to get through due to a farmers protest. We took the 2nd bus an hour later which did get through. By the time we were ready to head back the trains were running all the way again.

I have been to Aberystwyth once.... Was there for 10 minutes and left, sadly didn't even get off to have a look as it was chucking down with rain on that day. When got to Machynlleth, wanted to head back to Shrewsbury but was advise to take the train to Aberystwyth because it the same train I was waiting for, this was a very long time ago before I started UA-cam and before UA-cam even existed as well lol Great video G but the Cambrian Coast is a very stunning line.

Wow. Nice Beach! Sunny with blue skies. Station looks nice too. I have watched yours and others railway videos for a while now and increasingly want to go to Cornwall and Penzance and such places. I’ve mostly only visited London and the area around Reading and Bracknell except for my 3 weeks learning English in Swansea many years ago and a car trip a bit north in England even more years ago. But the southwest looks really beautiful!

Really enjoyed watching this, it's far too long since I went to Aberystwyth.
Back in the 80s when BR did the "Merrymaker" excursions there would be a couple of trips each year to Aberystwyth from the Nottingham area.
It was usually a "Peak" as far as Wolverhampton which would then be replaced by a pair of "25"s. All (well, most 😁) of the windows would be open as we left Machynlleth on the way back for the climb up to Talerddig. They sounded fantastic!
    Thanks for posting 👍

That was indeed extremely pretty scenery, G! What better way to see it than from the window of a Class 158? Some of it was kinda reminiscent to me of the journey along the line from Inverness to Aberdeen, especially on the last few miles to Inverness where you see the coast.
