Happy JPR Friday, it’s my birthday weekend so you gotta like the video if you see this 🎉
Minor correction: Electivire does keep Vital Spirit but I foolishly looked at his Gen 4 page before he got it as a HA in Gen 5, my b 😅
Happy birthday day
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND 🎉
Happy birthday
Happy Birthday JPR 🥳
Happy birthday!
It is a miracle that Gliscor turned out as well as it did when most of their fellow gen 4 cross gen evos are struggling.
Gen 4 don't lose speed challenge impossible difficulty
That’s what happens when you get 2 immunities and an amazing ability
Togekiss too (more so in VGC but was solid in Gen 6 OU and Gen 7 UU)
And also Weavile and Mamoswine, two of the only good designed Ice-types ever made
@@sombramemer1230the only one who got away with the speed drop is Magnezone
@@goGothitaLOL It's a wonder what an Ice type can do with a base Speed above 70.
6:45 I’d like to mention that Dragonite doesn’t even use Multiscale in VGC. It uses its other ability, Inner Focus, so it can be immune to flinches from moves like Fake Out and not be affected by Intimidate.
Giving Technician Breloom Bulldoze is really funny, because GameFreak really looked at Breloom's 70 Speed Spore and 130 Attack and went, "what if we gave this bungus an Earthquake with double the PP that slows everything it hits, but just took away 10 base power from the move?"
Now they need to not be cowards and give him Trailblaze
As someone whose first gen was Gen IV, seeing how so many of the Gen IV evos ultimately now exist for the sake of their pre-evos being good is really sad, ngl. Especially Dusknoir, who I have such fondness for due to Mystery Dungeon. But at least Gallade is doing well, I guess.
and even Gallade is overshadowed by Gardevoir (its gender doesn't matter to me😈)
Thankfully, Togekiss isn't one of such Gen 4 evos & instead made the evo line actually worthwhile, same with Weavile & later Sneasler (though that's Gen 8)
Bro both Dusknoir and Electivire are some of my favorite Pokémon, it's so sad
Gamefreak, give Metagross Shift Gear, dont be cowards
While you're at it, un-nerf Explosion. See what happens.
Or at least Trick Room.
@@mjdxp5688 give it dragon craw
Yes, I can think of another two. Heatran is an earthquake double-weak mon that has stood the test of time and has not left OU ever since it was introduced, and Volcarona has been in OU it's whole life till recently, where is was banned to Ubers. These fire types have done nothing but cook since their introduction.
Volcarona is definitely the golden child of Gen 5.
@@neosuduno There was a brief time when Heatran fell to UU in this gen.
Heatran is gonna fall to UU next month it doesn't get used much anymore
RIP OU Heatran
On the segment about Dragonite, they get far more benefit from Inner Focus, since it now grants Immunity to Intimidate, thus allowing those Tera STAB Extremespeeds to hit all the harder. Plus Extremespeed's Priority is +2, meaning that the only priority moves it will be outsped by are Helping Hand, all the different variations of Protect, Wide/Quick Guard, and Fake Out/Upper Hand. Which means that, including all the other +1 Priority moves like Bullet Punch or Grassy Glide, *Extremespeed goes before Sucker Punch.*
So fun fact, Baltimore was my first tournament ever, and that Breloom team was the first one I played. And I managed to win (thank you RNGsus).
I am so sorry 😭 but the only thing I can think of when I hear "Baltimore" is that one quote from Sonic Real Time Fandub: "if you live in Baltimore, f you"
Good to hear that Pokémon is giving Baltimore (or any part of Maryland) some much needed press. (Take THAT, LA!)
its time to give Garchomp dragon dance
and Druddigon
Druddigon yes, Garchomp OH F**K NO!
why can Scrafty and even WHISCASH learn dd but not some of the actual dragon types? makes no sense at all
@@kingofkrantTo answer this question, I would like to quote JaidenAnimations:“That thing was made by satan himself and I’m sure, even he fears what he has created.“
Are you insane?! I’ll stick to Scale Shot for Speed boost and either Hone Claws or Swords Dance for Attack boost
I think to improve Electivire. They should give the guy Galvanize so it can use its Attack Stab what with it knowing Body Slam and Double Edge.
for the love of god just give this dude his fighting type already
Gliscor is a mon that was OU at the time, and still OU today with its INVALUABLE ability of poison heal
Sadly you are wrong about electvire. Vital spirit is the hidden ability of both buzz and vire and the only reason why buzz is used more is due to the defense buff of eviolite.
1:37 Incorrect, Electivire still has Vital Spirit. The ability it loses is actually Static.
I think Azumarill belongs on this list as well. It feels like they just kept buffing it. Water/Fairy is an excellent typing and it can be pretty terrifying.
Shuckle will outlive all power creep forever. It was deemed to powerful for Gen 9 but one day it will get its comeuppance
...by which we mean it will be able to learn the move Comeuppance.
@@robertlupa8273 only from a Japan exclusive event shuckle which requires move tutor and breeding for a certain IV and nature
JPR: Not all Gardevoirs are females!
"That" segment of pokemon fans: Jokes on you, I'm into that.
"looks female enough for me"
All men love femboys.
Pokémon being accidental allies is always great. Shoutouts to gay Love Ball and Transgender Azurill
@@nicocchi Weirdo
@@RaynmanPlayswhy are they weird???? trans people and gay people exist go cry about it
Calls out those that think all Gardevoir female since they can be male or female.
Also calls Electabuzz and Magmar sons despite them also being able to be male or female.
Yeah, I honestly think it's way weirder to call Gardevoir male considering how femenine it is in design and concept.
Gallade is now an edgelord with that sharpness ability
That was a perfect thumbnail lol. I never thought Electabuzz could be used the way it has been in Reg H
Clefable has seen play in OU in Gen IV post the release of BW when the tiers froze. It is why people knew that it was going to be good in XY onwards. People tend to underestimate how much work Stealth rock and other entry hazards do and pokemon immune to them tend to be bulkier than expected. Clefable is tied for the fouth most viable DPPt OU pokemon currently IIRC.
Clefable is the embodiment of "Random bullshit, go!" Forget Mew, this thing gets practically every move known to man, and sometimes that's good enough.
Also the fact zapdos is still hanging in OU when monster threats like snorlax and gengar is RU is just impressive
Snorlax and Tauros are ZU, Zapdos remains pretty solid
dawg that thumbnail goes CRAZY LMFAO
Dragonite extreme killing it's way to staying relevant
That thumbnail is elite
Removing legends and mythicals might be the best decision for competitive, I like it when we have to get creative
Venomoth had a suprising run of viability in RU after gaining Quiver Dance and Tinted Lens. It broke my heart to see how low it's fallen in Gen 9...
I think Game Freak knew what they were doing with Breloom when that one Devon employee early on in RSE was looking for some Shroomish.
to answer the Glacial Lance question imagine a horse rider holds 2 Lances
Glacial LANCE not LANCES
7:37 Huh? Grass doesn't resist rock
Just a correction on the Breloom part; they quick banned Sleep moves because they didn't want to ban Darkrai from OU.
I wish I was exaggerating.
There was darkrai, hisuian lilligant, and valiant as top contenders. They all hoes you, but darkrai definitely was the most overbearing. Plus, the entire thing about the sleep clause being fake.
@@Gspoink135 Spe, 105 Spe (before Sun), and 116 Spe respectively
Forget the accuracy of Sleep Powder and especially Hypnosis
Before them, the fastest sleep users are 90 Spe tiers Roserade; whose not only power crept but also has fallen from grace since the removal of HP Fire/Ice (and don’t you dare tell it about Glimmora), and Lilligant who is not good at all because of it’s nonexistent offensive movepool; literally just Grass STAB, generic Normal moves and said HP of choice for the longest time, and even 3 new moves it did get aren’t much or consistent (Pollen Puff, Weather Ball, and Alluring Voice)………….and Chlorophyll Venusaur in sun I guess
About the Breloom thing... yeah no, the reason smogon banned sleep is Darkrai, Valiant and to a lesser extent alolan Ninetales spamming hypnosis. One could argue they could've just banned hypnosis in all honesty, not because the move itself is better than spore or sleep power (quite the opposite in fact) but because the mons that abused it were the ones making it broken
I guess Breloom really does live up to the fungus of basis in being basically a fixing that could bring up a team like how mushrooms are practically a natural boullion cube. That said, Jynx not getting an evo at the same time that Electabuzz & Magmar did may've been a blessing in disguise, although her getting one at some point would be nice if improving upon the line like how Sneasler & Weavile together have done would be actual improvements
5:04-5:08: Actually, a lance can hit two targets, if you hold it horizontally and slam it into both their guts at once. I mean using the sharp edge probably going to be more effective, but like a Pokemon with a move it doesn't use very often but can work despite being outclassed by a different move it has the opition.
Electivire, Magmortar, Dusknoir, and Porygon-Z: What is my purpose?
Arceus: You make your pre-evolutions viable
Honchkrow: I know I was good in Gen 4 UU and Gens 5-7 RU back in the day, but can I join in?
More forgotten gen 1-2 pokemon need new evolutions so that the original pokemon can use eviolite.
I want to use an eviolite Golduck, it'd be beefy AF
Is it just me, or are all the sound effects for stuff being added to the screen (electivire burger image, evolite item, Vital Spirit graphic, etc.) playing like half a second before the images appear on screen?
Maybe it's a delay caused by listening to the audio on headphones?
@@robertlupa8273 that doesn't apply when I'm using my phone's built-in speakers
bro listed skarmory as gen 3 💀
The comment I was looking for
I pray that there isn't a day where Friend Guard gets put on an actually good Pokemon. If *Clefairy* can make it work, it's way too dangerous.
I mean, Mousehold gets it now...
1:38 Having PTSD of The Weather Wars.
I can hear the Politoeds, man. THE POLITOEDS!
Get to the Storm Drain! 🤣
I think it would be interesting if you did a podcast that detailed the history of the rat. You’ve mentioned South African actor Timothée Chalamet so would be interesting to hear that. Now that the holiday hippo is gone I would like to see his origins in podcast form, who did he meet
As a singles player, I disagree heavily with everything you said about Mangar and Electabuzz. Supports just don’t work out nearly as much as they do in doubles, so the extra offense (as well as things like the new move Supercell Spam for Electivire) make them actually work well in some lower tiers, while I still have never seen a singles team with their base forms from Gen 1.
I am glad that Dragonite is finally getting the chance to be the dominate pseudo-legendary it was always meant to be.
Gotta love a JPR video talking mostly about Gen 1 Pokémon
11/10 thumbnail
I just had a thought; is there a pokemon with both Skill Swap and the Prankster ability?
Skill Swap Prankster onto Toadscruel then it's ability onto an opponent...
Spore away.
Great vid! One day I’m sure 255HP Blissey will drop off if not buffed :(
Maybe gen 16 or something like that
Garchomp has been around for excuse me how many years? Oh my God I'm getting old
Eviolite, ruining the reputation of cross-gen evolutions since 2010.
Even though I had a rough week, I know that I can count on having a pokemon video by the end of it. Thanks JPR!
The thumbnail is perfect
I know the galarian form is more popular at the moment, but got to give a shout out for weezing for being a gen 1 pokemon showing up in the video for its performance in vgc without being acknowledged for it
I like that the editors are having fun in the abilities showing
Magmar and Electabuzz
Two of my fav mons ever since the 90s
Good Video Overall. Just want to highlight that sleep in Gen 9 Smogon Singles was banned due to Darkrai and Iron Valiant spamming Hypnosis.
In Gen 5? Yeah, it was due to Breloom. And Sleep being more broken in general
I'm pretty sure paradox will be gone next gen
Can we add Cloyster to this with spikes, shell smash, icicle spear paired with the ability skill link with a high physical defense stat..... Remember a lot of these in gen 8 online
It's always nice when a Gen 1 pokemon is still viable in Gen 9.
I love my old electabuzz, I literally had an Ash/Pikachu moment on deciding whether to evolve him🤣
Hey, where’s my boi Gyarados? He may not be as high tiered these days as he was back in gen 1, but he’s still held up pretty good compared to most Pokémon in the early gens.
Doesn’t Electivifer still gets Vital spirit as hidden ability?
Yes, he confused it with Static
It is always impressive whenever one of these can last until modern day. No extinction happening here.
Thumbnail is not something i wanted to see but glad i did lol never change it plz!
6:53 Lunala: Am I joke to you...
Same effect, different name.
JPR: *Not all Gardevoirs are females!*
Me: *No! I reject your reality, and SUBSTITUTE my own!*
Electivire does keep vital spirit when it evolves☝🤓
I looked at his Gen 4 page when I said that and I feel stupid now lol
@@JPRPokeTrainer98happens to the best of us
Hell yeah, Breloom's the best!
That combo of Spore, Mach Punch, Bullet Seed (& a coverage move like Rock Tomb), plus Focus Sash as its item made it easily my favourite 'mon to play with back in the day - pretty much always picked up a K.O. with it somehow
Really hope Smogon gives it back its spores someday 💔
And who can forget the infamous Rain Dance Gallade :P
"It's like getting both political parties to support the same candidate!"
Are we talking the establishment of the political parties or the voters? If both parties have establishment candidates, then sure. The establishment of each party will support their own party's candidate. If only one party is putting forth an establishment candidate, though, then they will pick the establishment candidate over party every day of the week.
We see that currently
Sableye goes hard on being an anti-setup lead in singles. At least in my experience
Venusaur has always been the most consistently great starter Pokémon of them all.
Electabuzz got buffed because he got the gattling gun in his palworld regional variant
The thumbnail goes hard
I love hearing good morning everyone when I'm driving home from work and done for the weekend 🎉
Forget Multi Scale, Inner Focus was buffed in gen8
It's not in the first 4 gens but given the fact gen 5 turns 14 years old next month and while yes gen 5 is the beginning of what we know as the modern spikes of power creep I do think volcarona should be mentioned as a mon who has incredible longevity and imo will become the new Ttar, Garchomp, Lando etc. The new longest Reigning Pokemon in OU.
Thanks To being essentially the best and only Quiver Dance User, a good move pool, good type combination, heavy duty boots, and seems to deal with the gimmicks well if not abuse them to its fullest potential in the case of gen 9, (while it didn't have a mega it did still play well in a meta game with them and was actually a counterpick for some notably the top tier threat of Mega Mawile and meta Kang to an extent thanks to its typing and ability flame body, and with gens 7 and 8 it frankly enjoyed the possibilities it could have with the gimmicks)
Volcarona will reign as a Monarch for years to come
Banger Thumbnail😂
Happy birthday JPR
The all time goat since it’s been introduced in my opinion is amoongus because it’s been around since gen 4 and it’s never been bad at all. It’s mostly a vgc Mon but it’s also a great singles Mon it’s just people don’t use it for singles. In vgc where it shines best is best of 3.That Mon is the all time goat I call it the mushroom that kills gods just because people with legendarys lose to it.
I feel much like Breloom, Ludicolo and Poliwrath are underrated, I have them on my current rain team and they really put in work.
I don't think Ludicolo being good is a very unpopular opinion. Poliwrath on the other hand, never heard anyone use it. Its stats aren't very good.
@@mjdxp5688 You'd be surprised, chuck on an assault vest with the right team mate he gets a lot of unexpected KOs.
"Not all Gardevoir's are female!" ok maybe the Gallade is gay? Who knows?
Time to give Ampharos tail glow
nice wall 🚗 have a good birthday
Electivire and Magmortar should both get fighting type and No Guard.
I did in fact guess skarmory
"Not all Gardevoir are female, you weirdos"
The ones I catch are.
grass doesn't resist rock
Evolite came out in gen v so technically electabuzz and magnar were already able to use it. It’s just a nitpick cuz I didn’t like how you worded it saying they can now use it cuz of their evolutions
man, i have been out of the loop for too long, when did they make sleep clause ban all sleep moves instead of just only able to put one pokemon to sleep?
That guy in thumbnail inspire Palworld as well
Oh no, the ones who focus on Garde being male tendy to be just a little weeeeeny bit weirder. I don't think I really need to elaborate.
5:05 line them up and you can make a shish kabob
You and these damn thumbnails recently. First Sceptile and now Electivire?
Electivire has vital spirit as ability as well
Is that an old michael waltrip fender?
Nah, I'm not one of those weirdos simping for Gardevoir. Galade is dummy thick.
I don't exactly think Dragonite is a still good pokémon. He is a now good. 9 generations for this dragon become good
Porygon-Z isn't really built for doubles and really both Z and 2 forms function well in their own ways since Z and Togekiss are probably the only two remotely good Gen 4 evos succeeding somewhere in Gen 9
Dragon Dance Garchomp Now!
Arch - Al - Uh - Don
