  • In today's northern Japan Travel Vlog, we continue down on the Island of Hokkaido, to Hakodate. Hakodate is a city that saw major western influence in the last century and as such, provides an interesting mix of Eastern and Western Culture. It also features one of Japan's best 3 night views also known as the 1 Million Dollar View. What do you think, is it worth it?
In the morning, we start off at Onuma Koen in Hokkaido for a quick sunrise mission to take in the beautiful nature scenery in this national park. Afterwards, we continued to Hakodate which is the biggest city in the South of Hokkaido.
Our first stop was the Goryokaku Park and Tower, a famous sight famous for Cherry Blossoms in Spring. Unfortunately, the tower was closed due to the Corona, so we weren't able to get the panoramic view on the famous star shaped park from the top.
In the city center of Hokkaido, we visited the Motomachi area which has the biggest influence from the west with many churches, including the famous Russian Orthodox church overlooking Hakodate Bay.
For our last stop of the day, we finally took the cable car up to see the 1 Million Dollar View. From a viewing platform high up on a mountain, you can see the sparkling lights of Hakodate city nestled in between two ocean bays. I would say it was definitely worth it.
