Did you ever come across something in your life, even as a fleeting moment, that made you kind of obsessed with trying to find it again? And when you found it again it somehow became something so influential to yourself in your later stage of life?
Well, today's topic for In Transition was that for myself in my older childhood and well into now as an adult, as one property that was inspired by my love of Magical Girl anime somehow got me invested in something with major trans-coding in one of it's main cast, if even unintentional.
And with help from good friend Alexis Vandom, we talk today about how impacted both of our lives in very different, if similar, ways as we talk about W.I.T.C.H.

As a trans woman who grew up with W.I.T.C.H. and really, really identified with Will too, thank you for making this video.
my sister had a shit ton of volumes of the graphic novel as they came in sort of a teen magazine style, and i absolutely LOVED IT!! i was very young and didn't understand much of the story itself, but the visuals were STUNNING!! my favourite was Irma bc she was a water type and bc she kinda looked like me, but most of all, i reasonated so much with her being sort of a tomboy and not that feminine, i related toher so bad. i can't forget the episode when she pretended to be a boy and play on the boy's soccer team for some reason ? that was amazing to me as a child and it felt so natural to me. even if i didn't realize it at the time, i feel like Irma had a huge impact on how i came to see myself and interact with my not so feminine identity. this is a push for me to reread it as i still have all of the magazines, the only issue is they're not complete T.T
I cried listening to Alex’s part of the video
im an afab non binary person and i swear the second will corrected her full more feminine name to the abbreviation of a more androgynous and masc name I was hooked (kennedy quickly became ken). i was obssessed with the comics as a kid and she was always my favourite knowing that she was a 'tomboy' like me and that it was okay.
Thank you for making this amazing video!! I never watched W.I.T.C.H because my parents didn’t have Toon Disney. Can’t wait to read the comics and binge watch the show! What’s your friend’s UA-cam channel? I’m glad I’m not the only girl who’s renaming herself after tv characters. Chose my middle name as Octavia from the 100 due to my newly discovered Italian heritage and I feel like I was trapped under the floor and finally able to show the world who I am. Keep making fantastic videos.
I had a set of W.I.T.C.H action figures as a kid. I have no idea where they came from or who gave them to me, and I knew nothing about the series or characters at the time. That being said I loved the action figures and played with them tons, the Hay Lin figure was my favorite. I love that they were strong, feminine, diverse looking characters with a cool fashion sense. I think they were definitely a part of my queer awakening even though I knew nothing about them lol. Now I wanna see if I can find the graphic novel because I’d love to actually know the story and characters.
As someone who is scouring the internet to do so. You can surprisingly still find the series on many internet booksites, fair warning though, getting the series complete is gonna be PRICEY 😅
W.i.t.c.h. shaped my life so much, and I resonated a lot with Will and still do - and I'm trans masculine! Her gender nonconformity and struggle with feeling okay in her own skin is transcendantly relatable across the queer spectrum. My grandmother once also got me one of the magazines that they used to release the comics in in Europe when she would travel to visit my family in Germany. I remember poring over them for HOURS with a German to English translation website and reading them cover to cover over and over again. I always connected the most with Will and Hay-Lin, especially with the whole braces arc but also her love for fashion and her more bubbly personality.
I adore W.I.T.C.H ❤❤❤
I really hope for Winx video!
Might not be in this series exactly because tbh I never really got into it until AFTER I transitioned, but heck, I might very well talk about Winx at some point or another.
great video! happy to be the 666th subscriber
Ooooo~ we love a spooky sub number! 🤭
I think i was just out of age range when this came out. I think i was vaguely aware of WINX.
Opposite effect here, I had little to no exposure to Winx Club til at least 5-6 years ago and it's only because of comparisons made between the two series ngl
i totally grew up with both Winx Club and W.i.t.c.h!!! and also Tokyo Mew Mew/Mew Mew Power when it was airing on 4Kidz. I wouldnt get super duper into it until around 2008, but i always would watch it when it was the block between Sonic X and Winx on the channel iirc @@ChloeSunfloraVA
You had 666 subs when I I first started watching this video. I am sorry I had to break this by subbing.
If it helps, you contributed to it getting to 669 💖
Will was so great as a relatable lead. She's my favorite as an adult, but kid me was so similar to her, that I projected and judged her for being moody and insecure. Hay Lin was who I wished I was as a kid, and still kinda now.
