In Transition - Steven Universe & The Everlasting Impact of Queer Creators

In the last decade we've seen a rise of queer creators being able to create their own stories with representation at the forefront alongside being able to tell more unique stories at the same time, with the likes of Owl House and She-Ra being at the forefront of the more recent topics of discussion.
However, there is one show among all others that in my eyes is ground zero for where this shift in creators creating more queer media coming into that forefront, Steven Universe.
On this edition of In Transition, we look at how Steven Universe and Rebecca Sugar as a creator, helped the transition of more unique stories told by queer creators to be made and how it impacted my own journey well into my adult years.

Steven Universe will always be my favourite show, and not just my favourite show, but one of my favourite stories. I just wish I'd known about it earlier. I could've realized so many important things about myself, so much earlier.

I have mixed feelings about CN's release schedule with Steven Universe. I didn't necessarily like waiting so long for new episodes, but looking back, I think having all that time to speculate and wonder about what would happen next added to my enjoyment of the show. Not to mention that when we finally did get new episodes, it felt like a big important event. The same thing is happening to me again with Deltarune. Anyway, it's nice to see Steven Universe still being talked about.

I love this series of personal takes to focus on how art influences of our lives. I know Steven Universe was a huge gateway to 2010s animation, alongside MLP:FiM. It's just a shame SU has been getting so much dishonest backlash lately, which is only now getting focused rebuttals.

It's mainly just in jest, I think the majority of the series is good even if the drop in quality story-wise in the post-Sugar era kinda made me dip out for a while 😅
