Smashing looking beat , another fine video, on the casting front am the same , think we all have a spell of it , I tend to reel in 5 to 10ft of line just to get my timing and rhythm back, that way I feel as if I get it sorted that bit quicker and before you know it we are good to go , you soon get that 5 to 10ft back and some .. again great video and quickly becoming one of my favourites one to look out for , smashing mate tight lines awe the best 🎣🎣🎣

I fish for grilse/salmon later in the season on small spate rivers, that is my comfort zone & what I have access to through the club. Fair play to you, I could totally get the notion of stage fright and suddenly feeling like you’ve forgotten all the things that normally just happen naturally. I’d have no idea what I was doing on a river like that but it’s great watching people like yourself on these waters trying for what is a special and elusive quarry. You’ve done it now, hopefully next time you’ll feel more at ease, to me you looked to be fishing it well maybe it was just one of those days. We’ve all been there when others are catching and there are already other things that put seeds of doubt in your mind, let alone that. I often find that on the bigger rivers it is trying to cast to far that leads to problems. I've just spent the day on a small spate river myself and felt much more at home. Good luck for when the season starts for you

Lovely spot. Some of my best takes have resulted from my worst casts but I prefer the feeling associated with good casting. Like a golf swing, it'll come back soon.
Great video don't beat yourself up about the casting it happens you could have put every cast out perfectly in the morning and still not touched a fish but its good to see decent amount of fish moving through it gives you hope because you at least no they're there
Sometimes on the Dee,especially with 3ft on,it pays to fish the inside 3rd,weve all lost our casting action,and going shorter can help this,cracking bit of water,like your outfit.
Tough luck. It happens to all of us. To me, normally when i try too hard for distance. Like you, i miss a step out. I tend to take a breather and start again with a short line. Btw what tip were you using, if they are showing i switch to a floating tip. I hope Kara is well.
Been there a few times where you lose the ability to cast properly and feel embarrassed because you have onlookers, it's not nice is it ? It happened with me when I was over excited about a new water and the adrenaline kicks in and you're all in a mess, add in folk looking and the anxiety starts and then your heads really out the game! I suffer from an anxiety disorder and it's the reason I took up river fishing because you are alone 99% of the time and even I can handle the odd 10 minute chat with anyone passing by that feels the need to stop and talk, I just think maybe they are like me and I might be the only person they talk to that day. When I get to a water and im over excited and can feel I'm not ready here I just sit for 10 mins and have a coffee and look at the river, this usually calms me down and I have a better experience, if someone comes up to me and I feel anxious I stop fishing until they leave because you aren't enjoying it if you're thinking this guys thinking I'm an arsehole here 😂 Two great videos again and nice to see kara on the bank with you but no cooking ? C'mon man 😂😂 Looking forward to the next one 😀
It's surprising just how much of a mental game casting is! I also enjoy the solitary nature of fishing rivers though I must admit those random riverside chats are one of the best parts of fishing. I find you cross paths with some right characters especially those lunatics who chase the salmon. Glad you enjoyed there videos.
@@abakerslife gettitn awfully low now pal need rain I’ve been looking at Aberlour,garmouth and the Helmsdale association bits as there’s no so water dependant if anything the last two like it low,a solid back up plan if you make a trip and it’s to low
Hi mate, I've been following the weather forecasts up your way and noticed that for the start of next week there is supposed to be a bit of rain. Do you think there will be enough to justify a trip up to fish the Findhorn? I have a week off work but don't want to make the trek up there if the river is on it's arse.

Funnily enough I have never caught a fish from a really bad cast so in my head if I make a bad cast I don't have a chance of a fish.

Yes I'm the same as soon as I start trying to cast to the other bank then the problems begin. I was using an intermediate tip that day.

I tried it on my switch rod and to me it felt too heavy but as you say you like a heavy reel so it might work for you.
