Sonic Unleashed was not bad at all, but it also isn't even close to the 10/10 masterpiece people paint it as. The truth is, the low scores it got upon release were a major overreaction based on the prior experiences of Shadow and Sonic 06, but now, the paradigm has shifted because people who grew up with the game remember the best parts of it, while ignoring the egregious amount of filler and padding the game has. For example, the game starts with two excellent daytime stages, before turning you into the werehog, putting you in a hub world, making you play a 20+ minute werehog level, then making you play what basically amounts to a 10 minute quick time event on the tornado, then you explore another hub, then you explore ANOTHER hub, then you have to play another werehog level, AND THEN you can finally play a daytime level. The game is crazy polished, especially by Sonic standards, and gets a lot right, but it is padded to hell and back.
@@MiZtaAZuki I've S ranked the entire game back in 2009, including Eggmanland (though I can't do the hot dog missions..), and I've never beaten a single werehog level by playing it "properly" in less than 15 minutes. Maybe if you break the game you can do that, otherwise that doesn't happen, at least in the HD version. The game is best when all the levels are unlocked and you can select the levels from the world map, but to do that, you have to wade through the padding first. And to exclude that part of the game from the equation to call it a 10/10 masterpiece is being dishonest.
You do know i can nitpick your favourite games to make them look worse than they actually are, right? The Warehog is really not that bad, the opposite really as it offers some needed verity because the Daytime stages as goated as they are get repetitive fast. Unleashed deserves the 10/10 masterpiece title and nothing will change that.
Thanks very much greatly appreciated glad you enjoyed the vid...as a wrestling fans lets make a prediction who's winning the men's and women's royal 2025...my pick CM Punk maybe Jade
I honestly would recommend Sonic Unleashed to every Sonic fan out there, even those who hate the padding such as hub worlds and the werehog, because those day stages are just that good. Fun fact, there’s more original Sonic stages in this game compared to almost all other Sonic stages when you count the dlc and missions. So once you play through the story, you can replay all those day stages as many times as you like, and they are some of the best in the series! So I’m willing to take that trade off. Also, another fun fact, if you play this game on a CRT you can significantly improve the framerate. Not better than playing on a Series X or S, but still pretty good. Imagine speeding past those gorgeous graphics back in 2008! It’s definitely worth a try for every Sonic fan.
Exactly...the side content allow in this game is the size of the full campaign for other sonic games.. yeah the werehog wasn't everybody's favorite. But you cant denied how polished both gameplay styles were. I'm so happy unleashed is getting the praise it deserves. Because it is and excellent game. It honestly deserves a remaster
@futurereviews2018 There's also the medal collecting. Everyone can like or dislike anything, and j understand some of the criticisms, but I just think that it's a shame to heavily criticise solely because of the werehog, when it has so much great stuff about it, like the environments, the story, and the day stages. But once you get past the padding, you can just focus on thd good stuff, but it leaves a big impact on you because it has a more original premise. Therefore, I think those who would rather play Generations are heavily missing out!
@trolmite6149 i totally agree and in terms of generations, I cant put my finger on it but i know both game utilizes the boost formula, but unleashed for some reason feel superior in my opinion...I don't know if it's the level design or something else...but I would say people who hate on unleashed are surely missing out
@futurereviews2018 Yeah, the level design is better I feel because it's more reaction based, there's still alternative pathways which are hidden in the linear sections, but it's more challenging and also feels really fast and good to play. Generations and later boost games I feel made it too easy and hand holding by nerfing the drift radius and downgraded that speed effect. So I would say this was peak boost even though it was the first 3d game to have it. The different button mapping takes getting used to, but other than that, it's honestly great for time attacking. Though we'll see if it gets dethroned by Shadow Generations.
I just recently played the game the longest of levels was eggmanland for me(48m) and I surprisingly enjoyed the werehog! I would still argue that SA2 has the best sonic story. and how the heck did IGN say this game is slow?!

Playing the game for the first time last month (I had the Wii version back in the day so finally got around to the PS3 version) I think its biggest issues are the busted low frame rate too often eating my inputs and causing me to die, and the lives system. I love the challenge in the game but having to get booted out of the level all the time to keep trying is annoying. Leave the reward for playing well with the end of level score and remove the lives. Like there’s so many sections in the game where they know it’s too hard for life so they just place a respawning 1up. Like just remove the life system at that point. Other than that tho it’s become my new favourite boost era game, and like ya I don’t get the complaints about the werehog, I love the bigger focus the werehog has on platforming and the combat is fun. And ya compared to Gens, Unleashes daytime stages blow Gens out of the sky, specifically because of how challenging they are, pulling off a clean run feels so good!
My ps3 got alzheimers from playing this game... it was struggling to run some of those day time stages. It gave me hell in eggman land due to input lag.

There’s nothing wrong with being critical, the majority are not overly critical, you’re just seeing a vocal minority on the internet. And besides, the truth is that Sonic has had a lot of bad or poorly optimized games.
Its not just IGN that was responsible for Unleashed's poor reception. It was also poor timing and Sonic Team's mid 2000's arrogance. This was the first mainline console Sonic game AFTER Sonic 2006 which already put Unleashed at a disadvantage. Public perception towards Sonic during this time was at an all time low after 2006. Weither you love Unleashed, or are like me and think its the most overrated Sonic game ever produced, what ultimately killed Uleashed upon release was bad timing, bad circumstances, and a high amount of arrogance from both Sega and Sonic Team.

10:50 nah they coping 70 mins on eggmanland, 60 mins nah that isn't even possible. It's like this you will get an a rank on your first attempt with 30 mins about around there or you don't beat it. It's like if it took you that long on the Rollercoaster I don't believe it I'd say 5 mins of attempts max and it's mostly spent on the last where hog section after the last day hog section where you might die a couple times. Like just watch cobanermani456 eggmanland. How much he raged to get an a rank and he could or got an s if he critical hit every enemy at the final combat section. They probably threw on purpose cause like they just so happen to have screenshot and screen recordings if such high times? Yeah I doubt.

11:00 Bro shut up. If your going at a normal pase not collecting collectibles I'll assume you don't die once on the stage but you go slow on all the platforming parts every wherehog stage would be like 15 mins. The first 6-12 mins the second in mazuri, OK 4-10 mins then honestly I'll just say the longest stage which is probably empire city night 10-20 mins but you can take shortcuts that skip so much time and aren't really hard so a normal playthrough might take them.
Sonic the Werehog will always be my favorite because of the combat, long levels and bosses like Egg Dragoon which the music for that boss is pure class. However, if I'm being honest, I still prefer Sonic and the Secret rings as a close top 6 favorite i am just godly at that game ill never understand how people sucked at that game or found the controls hard as I beat it as a kid and as an adult last year.
I dunno, Unleashed will always be the game that unfairly sidelined the entirety of the Sonic supporting cast (thanks to the Sonic's "stupid" friends crowd) and just replaced them with a bunch of stuff that no one asked for. If they truly wanted a brawling gameplay style in a Sonic game, then Knuckles is literally the perfect character for that. I also don't understand why Tails is sidelined, only to be replaced with another flying sidekick. And to all of the people who call Tails annoying; I personally found Chip to be way more annoying than Tails ever was. I will never understand why people seem to think that Tails is a terrible character, and the best thing to do with him is.... make him purposefully WORSE than he ever was? Like, how is that an improvement? Even the story I find to be just lackluster. It's like Sonic becomes a Werehog. "Oh no! I'm a Werehog! This is terrible! I've got to get back to normal! STRETCHY ARM POWER, AWAY, WEEEEEEEE!" Eggman tears apart the planet, and pretty much does nothing worthwhile in the rest of the game. He could've been taken out of the game after the beginning and literally nothing would change. Sonic meets Chip, they slap a high five, and BAM, instant BFF's! And nothing really changes. And with Chip doing his weird little dances and acting like Scrappy Doo doing his "let me at 'em" punches, and Sonic constantly pushing him out of his way, I just don't really buy it when we're supposed to be sad when he disappears, never to be seen, heard of or mentioned ever again. I was just happy to see the back of him. And to be fair, I could've tolerated him a bit more if he had a bit more interaction with Tails and Amy, but it literally feels like he is there to replace them. Tails and Amy are literally just twiddling their thumbs with absolutely nothing worthwhile to do in the story other than wondering why they are even here. Seriously, I'd rather see Sega actually working on the characters that they already have, than giving all of the screen time to some one time character who only makes one appearance as an "improvement."
Yeah the werehog stages are the worst thing ever and its not even half of the game, its a vast majority of it. Most of your time will be spent on the long and slow werehog stages and thats why Unleashed is so mediocre despite the fancy graphics and music.
I understand your point and its valid... I too felt so at first about the werehogs.. but compared to how abysmal sonic games got in the future I grew to appreciate a little more...especially because Sonic Boom the rise of Lyric exists
Lmao you are both capping hard if you think the Warehog is some sort of terrible gimmick when it adds to the gameplay. I'd rather play all the Warehog stages at a heartbeat than a another 2D section or Classic Sonic.
@Bombastic_daioh The Day stages aren't even fully 2D. What are you talking about? Also, your statement is *entirely* subjective and not a fact, regardless if you think it's good or not.

Yeah I doubt.
is it just me or do all the older sonic games have much more character then the new ones?
Couldn't say it better myself...they a certain charm to them that's kinda hard to explain
@@futurereviews2018 yeah exactly I never really was a sonic fan but as a kid in 2016 I always found those older sonic games cool yk and btw great editing and I must say you're are very based guy 🤣
@GlitzyYeti the classics are always better game when it comes to sonic...and thanks very my glad you enjoyed the video
No it is great actually...i installed the disc on my Xbox 360 hardrive for best effect and thoroughly enjoyed it
Earned a new sub man. You're so damn funny 😂

IGN just hates sonic for no reason
For no damn reasons...and they never play the game correctly in their reviews
@@futurereviews2018u need skill and refinement to get the proper enjoyment...their dumbass can't finish the level swiftly because of the purposefully placed obstacles and call it a bad game 💀🙏
Literal skill issue, they gave forces a higher score cause unleashed is too hard for them.
0:15 nah mind over mutant was peak
Peak game but..not peak crash game
0:02 after just coming from Shamar in sonic unleashed doing all the day stages and night statges getting all the medals and finishing the hotdog missions then realising i still have the missions left its like uggghh.
I hate modren sonic games stop holding my hand, pokemon sonic and other franchises stop the hand holding the majority of your customers are from 90's and 2000 era not children.
Exactly ...the more recent sonic games (Sonic forces in particular) have you play like you are in training wheel.. that pisses me off so much
You keep talking shit, the werehog levels are objectively better them the mech and treasure stages and deserves a come back
fax but they just have a skill issue
But thats what I said ...the werehog stages are good...ign and people on the internet were making them out to be a bad thing while they are very good...only thing is they were a little to long...I said all this in the video🙃 i went as far as praising the werehog for how polished the gameplay was which I cant say about other sonic games
@@futurereviews2018 I think he meant keep talking your shit, in a good way lmao

11:00 Bro shut up. If your going at a normal pase not collecting collectibles I'll assume you don't die once on the stage but you go slow on all the platforming parts every wherehog stage would be like 15 mins. The first 6-12 mins the second in mazuri, OK 4-10 mins then honestly I'll just say the longest stage which is probably empire city night 10-20 mins but you can take shortcuts that skip so much time and aren't really hard so a normal playthrough might take them.
short answer it was not,but its not perfect as everything in this life
bros funny asf
🤣🤣 thanks very much
I actually like the werehog
Same here ...I found his gameplay to very solid and polished
my brudda you are very underrated - keep it up 😂🫡
Thank you very much 🤣
Sonic the Werehog will always be my favorite because of the combat, long levels and bosses like Egg Dragoon which the music for that boss is pure class.
STRETCHY ARM POWER, AWAY, WEEEEEEEE!"
Eggman tears apart the planet, and pretty much does nothing worthwhile in the rest of the game.
@Bombastic_daioh
The Day stages aren't even fully 2D. What are you talking about?
Also, your statement is *entirely* subjective and not a fact, regardless if you think it's good or not.
@@DarkShadowX9 Lmao sure buddy keep telling yourself that
sorry dude, but sonic unleashed is overrated nowadays and so is the boost formula
Nah, if anything in Sonic is overrated nowadays, it's definitely the Adventure games and the Adventure Era as a whole. Never seen so much meat riding before until Sonic fans started huffing the 2000s nostalgia kool aid.
@@DSmith3279 tell me why the boost games are objectively better than adventure games
