- Really well built unit. Great design and does an all around good job. But could use more spring tension all around. Thrustmaster now offers this same unit with XBox and PS4 compatibility.

Great channel for beginners.. you do well with explaining things simply without sounding like an elitist. Thank you.
Thanks again Barry, I've been tempted with this for a while and just not convinced on its merits for shifting alone. You've answered all of the doubts I had.
Thanks Barry, your vids are without doubt the best reviews on the internet
I have to praise how nicely and accurately you explain everything. thank you for the video
Barry, off topic here, but your knowledge helped me fix my pedals.
Thank you and keep up the good work.
I just ordered the MOD+ for Xbox One X and this review was exactly what i needed to be prepared for getting it implemented on the rig in the best way. Great review and thanks for the help ! (You just got another sub)
Another fantastic review by the master
This is definitely the best channel for all of this kind of stuff
Waiting for mine to arrive today thanks to your vid im now equipped to set it up and match it with the t300rs.
awesome job buddy - my TSS had a loose screw on the handbrake spring and it wasn't retracting back to original position.. with this video i've now tightened it internally.
thumbs up
wow this review is excellent ! you cover everything I could imagine and more.
Thanks for the guide on calibrating the handbrake/shifter.. i had no idea what i was meant to do in the tool.
You da man Barry. Love your videos!
great review. Thanks to you I have fixed it because it got loose. Thank you!!!
Thanks for this informative review
Hi, I just wanted to thank you for making this brilliant video. A while back I bought a second hand TSS Handbrake. Now quite recently the feel on the lever has become somewhat soft and there’s not much resistance when pulling the lever. First I thought that the spring has died out, but now after watching your video I’m pretty sure that it’s just the nut that controls the preload on the spring, which has gone loose. Furthermore, after watching your video I now feel more confident about opening the casing, as I know how it’s done. I’m thinking about applying some threadlocker on the nut, once I’ve tightened it and found the right level for preload, so that it won’t get loose again. Much obliged for the video. 👍
I’m think I’m gonna wait for the HE seq/ H pattern combo when it lands. Hopefully soon. Good review, you’ve helped me decide that I don’t need this
It is surprisingly good looking, especially for Thrustmaster
Thanks for the review, always great in depth look at the reviewed products. I liked the build quality when using the Handbrake, I purchased another one to have it set up in Sequential...lol...just so i did not need to adjust the screws to change it over all the time....really would be interested in an update review showing the stiffer springs put in if you decide to do it as you are correct that the springs need to be stiffer. Thank you
Quality !
I think the nuts around my spring are getting loose because the handle is getting wobbly and misinputting. This video will help fix it, thanks! I feel way more confident opening it up and taking a look now.
There is actually a great mod for this on thingyverse. Tested it myself and gives you a nice and heavy clunk when shifting. And it doesn't wear out as fast as the th8a one 😅
I just got my tss and your review couldn't be more spot on. Waiting for mods!
This is my new fav sim racing channel
Those look like die springs. Die springs are universally color coded for their strength. Yellow is very low on the scale, the next level of strength is a red spring. Then blue or green, and dark brown is hard as a rock.
I'd give the red die springs a go in this, would likely help
This vid saved me scrapping my TSS after I goofed w/ the spring 😅
If you're going to use exclusively the handbrake, you could use both springs at the compression side of the rod, you'd get even greater pre-load.
"it always seems like my levers come up a little short" story of my life 😂
28:48 those springs are shocks from 1/8 remote controlled buggies, you can buy them rated and color-coded at hobby-stores.
They are die springs, right?
I’d love to see you put that $100 band saw through the SRG review process.
yes
Has anyone noticed how jacked this guy has gotten from driving a DD wheel? :)
"thrusmaster" is misspelled in the title, apart from that - great content as always
Thanks, I thought I had changed it before to the correct spelling.
Here in September 2020 - just got this shifter. This thing is SERIOUS... AMAZING! Outstanding overview/review of this *choice* piece of gear. Note to anyone who gets it - remember to update the firmware on (both) the shifter/handbrake unit *and* the base wheel you’re using. I’m using this for PS4 with a T300 RS GT. FOR ME (your mileage will ALWAYS vary), it feels great! Completely ramps up the value of the onpatible driving/racing/rallying games I have. So far, all good here! cheers, racers!
Yeah the 'click' feels when you slam down a gear is definitely missing. Overall I think its still much better sequential than TH8A sequential mode though.
the sideholes are ment to be used with the racing desk clamp to attach the shifter
Thank you so much for all the effort you put into these reviews, Barry.
I know this is kind of much to ask but, could you try and review the DOF Reality H3/P3? I've seen that it rivals the Next Level Racings 2 DOF seat mover, albeit NLR is more expensive.
Yes, I am looking at sourcing one of their 3 axis platforms for review.
You just got me so excited, thank you so much!
Those springs look to be the same as what comes on the T-LCM pedals. I wonder if the red T-LCM spring is heavier than that orange spring and would make good replacement.
Glad someone explained how to calibrate since thrustmaster doesn't 🙄 and if its well hidden. I cant get it working though.. keeps telling me incomplete?
I wonder if the springs of a valve from the head of a car engine would work (from a 4cyl engine for ex) as replacement for the original springs.
Do you need to rev match with a sequential shifter?
Electrical cords are also all metal on the inside, Barry. It's just the shielding that isn't as nobody wants to get shocked, or want new toys to go up in flames for that matter. :p
LogiForce86 it’s low voltage, you wouldn’t get shocked, there’s cladding insulator over each wire which is mandatory to prevent shorts. 5v probably 500mA. 🤔
Ehm, but that's not metal. If bare metal wires were use than stuff could happen. Which is what I was more or less getting at if you read my post again. ;)
The cladding is plastic. Even if you didn’t have the main cladding, each of the four USB wires are clad in plastic so there wouldn’t be a short. And even if it did short, there wouldnt be a fire due to the low power and PC which would shut down the port anyway. 😪
Yeah, I know what the materials a PC is made of including all the cables. I've been handling PCs since way before most people online I think.
I did forget about the surge protection on the USB port though, you're right on that. Back in the day we used to poke flat screwdrivers into the ports for fun to check what would happen, which did shut down or reboot the PC. :P
Regardless, 5v and
Odd Question: Could that also be used as a Collective Stick for helicopter sim? Does angle forward with smooth operation up and down? Thank you.
Hi Barry, love your vids very informative 👍🏼 I have the GT1 evo and trying to mount this handbrake to a flat piece of 80/40. Do you think I will be ok to bolt it down from the inside of the unit to the slot in the profile then put the cover back on as the holes line up perfectly.
As long as you are using a hole in the TSS frame you should be good.
Put a stronger spring on the tactile feedback arms and will give a more pronounced click on that groove.
Hi, could you please post the springs you bought?
@@marcobernhard3671 Hi Marco. Well I haven't bought any myself; I just said you could put stronger ones. I ended up going with the Fanatec stuff, myself. But even if you don't find the particular spring for that exact shape...you can either find a machinist and ask for a custom one or take the feedback arms off, drill a small hole on each tip an put a normal spring hooked on those holes and some other metal piece lower under those feedback arms. Should both put more force and keep the arms in contact with the metal bars.
Going to try and create one of these plates. What is the overall size of the AL plate, and, distance (x & y) of the outer holes? Thank you!
I FUCKIN LOVE YOU
JESUS CHRIST THAT THING IS HUGE!? I shopping for one and the pictures on the websites don't do it justice. lol
11:28 "13 milll fits ur nuts"
got em'
Are you going to review the new HE Sprint pedals when they are released?
Yes.
You can just take the top plate off (10 bolts/screws) (handle needs to be removed first ) and adjust from the top , took me about 15 - 20 minutes all up ....
❤🎉
I've got the T300RS GT and I refuse to pay another $300 for a handbrake. Instead I bought a Pro Micro board from Amazon and made my own handbrake for a whopping total of $13!!
did you ever get the springs if so where did you buy them?
Hey guys, you do a great job with ur reviews keep it up!
but ive got a question: im Searching for a Racingseat for 700-800€ and there are a lot of Companys that sell seats and its rly hard for me to get a detailed review for most of them. Do you guys have a personal Favorite Seat for this amount of money? if yes please let me know ;).
Currently my personal favorite is the Sparco EVO II US. I am 5' 8" 153lbs. However, I can't stress enough that you need to try as many seats as you can if at all possible. Racers have all types of different body shapes and lengths, and just because this seat is comfortable for me, doesn't mean it will be for you. Take your own measurements and compare that with the seat you are interested in if you can't try them in person. Seat comfort can be quite an elusive thing.
How do I get mod+ shifter? I've seen they have it on their website, but I don't see it anywhere.
Is there any difference in looks of TSS and TSS+ version? I can find some of them on my local "craigslist", but sometimes i am not sure whitch version it is "+" or regular, I can't see any symbols on the device (except for the package whitch might be thrown away by the user after opening).
"+" version supports PC+XBOX+PS4 while vanilla version supports PC only. The only difference seem to be the connecting cable, I don't know how a cable could cost that much XD Maybe there are additional chips to make it console compatible, I don't know.
So Barry, this TSS or the TH8A? Not particularly interested in H-pattern shifting, but i can be.
The TSS has noticably better SQ shifter feel than the TH8A I think. But only you can make the call on whether you would miss having the H-Pattern function.
Hey bro, does it include the additional black metal piece to make the handbrake horizontal ?
Mine didn't come in the box for some reason
Yes, it came in the box with mine.
25:32 ... "this is a 13 inch. 13 inch nut and a 13 inch wrench"
What class of ship are you working on, mate? ;-D
jk, very nice and informative video!
sheepmaster1987 the second he said that I scrolled to the comments looking for someone to mention it lol.
Hi Barry, is the tension of the TSS in handbrake mode comparable to the tension of the Fanatec handbrake?
They are close. But you can put stiffer springs in the TSS unit to make it firmer.
Sim Racing Garage Thx for the reply! 👍🏾
So the handbrake is on/off button? Isn't analog?
Depends on the game support. In dirt rally 2.0 and wrc 10 it's analog.
Is it possible to put a bike brake type lever on the grip and wire it to the toggle switch for handbrake and seq mode to use both simultaneously? Has any one done this or is it possible ? Cheers
The selector between handbrake and sequential has broken, could you show it or can you tell me what voltage it is and what type of selector it is?
How do You mounted IT ??
Can't seem to find a retailer at all for this product anymore
hello mate ,so have you change the springs ?do you have any idea what to search ,i mean size of the springs
No, never got around to it. I remember reading a post somewhere about finding springs that did fit it. Just don't recall where.
Barry where did you buy the springs for the spring mod?
Sorry, I was working on sourcing some springs that would work, but I ended up selling this unit to another Sim Racer before I found any. I remember reading on a forum somewhere that someone was succeful in finding suitable springs. You may find the answer if you do a search.
Nice video. I have been searching for mod + model for xbox one since release date and can't find anyone who sells them do you know where I can purchase one? Thx
Did you find one? I have the + one
Dont let me lie, tell me, the engine sound of the intro its from a Turismo Carretera right?? Cheers
Barry,
Which do you prefer the Thrustmaster or the Aiologs shifter and hand break? Granted the Thrustmaster is cheaper.
Aiologs.
Are you using a thrustmaster wheel? Because I want to know If I can use it with my Logitech g920
Can I use this handbrake on the GT omega apex wheel stand?
Were you able to find a solution for the GT Omega Apex setup? I've asked GE Omega and they don't have anything official right now, but they tell me that they are working on something official now that the TSS Handbrake+ is now available that works with the Xbox Series X.
so those 2 bolts don't adjust the tension ? they connected to it
GS400/GS550/GS750/GS1000 ALL YEARS FROM 1977-1980..PART NOS 12900-45810
Do you know if i can use this TSS with my Fanatec setup ? i have the CLS Elite Wheel base, shifters, peddals, and will like to buy the TSS instead of the fanatec handbrake.
On PC yes - you just connect it via USB.
no clamps?
Does it work with PS4/PS5 on Logitech G923?
Hey man . I wanna buy this but I wanna mount it on a next level racing wheel stand , Any ideas ?is it even possible ? Thanks
I'm sure you can fabricate some kind of plate allowing you to mount this to whatever bolt pattern is available on the NLR shifter mount. Or, bolt some aluminum profile to the shifter mount and go from there. How stable it will be in use is unknow until you try it.
Hello!
I buy this brake,I connected to the steering wheel of TGT with PS4 and nothing works.Maybe you need to update some software? You could help me
I think you need the + version for it to work on console.
@@bamula2 Thanks, but this is the + version
@Yann i have the tss + for xbox and connected it to my tx wheel and nothing works. did you ever figure out how to get it working. im getting desperate now
I think it's only for Xbox, I'm on not sure
Selling any sequential shifters?
can i know what are the size of the monitors, brand & model numbers?
Look in the video's description section.
Calibration INCOMPLETE , I've tried for 3 hours today . Everytime at the end when I test handbrake in the right corner this text come out , calibration incomplete? Please someone can help me ? Thanks alot !
Anyone got any ideas where I could grab a new male DIN/USB cable as mine got lost somehow when I moved cheers 👍🏻
You have to contact thrustmaster support to buy a set dont think they will be cheap though
Does the usb come with it?
This or the Akina Handbrake?
That setup tho.. I got tmx pro, shifter and this for e-brake. I was ready to drop for a chair stand and the "boss" caught on to price. I'ma prob be on the couch tonight and now I'm not allowed a chair. Boo haha
Danny Walker it’s worth sleeping in the couch for a bit. Get the damn chair and don’t let woman tell us men what to do and they just don’t want to see us happy
Are you using Xbox? If so did you need a simhub?
@@knightnight0237 I'm on Xbox. Yes you'll need a hub to connect more than one thing to it. Was a huge pain to get. Last I seen their still on back order. My 2 week delivery turned to 6.5 months.. was not happy at all. But.. it showed up so now I'm happy lol
Danny Walker oh jeez!! I ordered it June 11 off amazon so I hope it comes sometime soon because I’m tired of not being able to use my handbrake and th8a at the same time
@@knightnight0237 did it say backorder, ship when in stock? Lol I really feel like every house out there ordered one, or they only made 5 of them and were like crap.. people want them. 🤦🏼♂️
Does the PS4 model in handbrake mode have the braking travel too?
I haven't had a chance to try the PS4 version of this unit. But I would think that it has the same mechanical adjustments as this one.
Only difference would be the PS4 compatible electronics inside. Can't be 100% sure though.
I bought the TH8A for using as a handbrake without knowing there was a TSS version for PS4 %$#^&^!!! But you guessed it already it doesn't work in analog mode for the PS4. BTW nice review.
• Analog travel in HANDBRAKE mode;
• Analog travel in SEQUENTIAL SHIFTER mode.
Once the settings have been adjusted, they will immediately be saved in the TSS
HANDBRAKE’s internal memory and will therefore be effective in all of your games, whether on
PC, PS4™ or Xbox One®.
Great video. I already have the first sparco hard brake for pc. If I want to play it on Xbox one for forza7 do I need to buy this version? There is no way of modding it to work?
@@simracinggarage3026 I have heard that the only thing one needs to get this to work on the PS4 is a cable. I'm only asking because I have a tss coming in the mail but I don't think it's the + version and I've been told I only need a cable to get the brake to work on a ps4
Why does it cost at least 278 USD in Europe?
1:06 that's what she said
What in the world are you doing with your feet when you were shifting into lower gears??
This might help. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heel-and-toe_shifting
What monitors are you using here?
ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q 27" 2560x1440 IPS for the 3 main monitors. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017EVR2VM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Shit i thought so :) I have one for my PC and i was hoping ur using something cheaper but if i made sim i would use 3 of PG's also. Too bad I dont make my sallary in dollars. Would be much easier to create a good sim :)
Stupid question to ask but would this work with the Logitech g920
Yes. Using it as a stand alone USB device, it is not wheelbase dependent.
So you can plug it in the xbox and start playing? I also have the g920 and the shifter from logitech but want this as a handbrake.
This guy is giving me bob ross vibes
thrustmaster springs rating 8.8lbs
Suzuki spring 55-60 lb
thrustmaster springs rating 8.8lbs
Suzuki spring 55-60 lb
so up to 6.25 times stronger than stock
Is there any way to make it work with the Logitech G920?
This model is only for the PC. If you are playing on a PC then yes. They do make a "mod +" that will work with ps4 and xbox, but I have yet to see one.
@@simracinggarage3026 ok thanks.
Sim Racing Garage do you know if you would need a simhub to connect th8a and tss to Xbox? Or connect tss directly to the Xbox?
Can this Shifter be used for console racing or is it PC only ?
PC only.
PCMR boiiiiii
In few days tm is releasing tss plus, which can be used on ps4 (not sure about one x)
TSS Handbrake Sparco Mod + is compatible on PS4, Xbox One, PC (Windows 10, 8, 7)
you can buy the TM Sim Hub
Iv Got A Question... Anyone Able To Answer?
Can you use the "TSS Sparco Mod" not the plus... on Console if you have a DIN/DIN Evo cable?
Did you find out the answer to this. Iv got an opportunity to get the pc one but I'm only on xbox one so wondering myself if there's a way of making it work
@@markgardiner1742 yup Thrustmaster confirmed the only difference is the cable, TM website shows it out of stock i emailed them and they do still have some in various countries also Rimotech sell the console cable
Oh right I might buy it then. There's a sparco handbrake near me for 120 pounds and really fancied it but didn't know if it worked. Night email thrustmaster then before I take the plunge
@@markgardiner1742 yea it will for sure work with the cable tm confirmed the only difference is the cable you can buy them from a few places still to get the cable through tm you will need to email customer support
You on FB? Just i still have the order form on my emails i cud forward you all the info you need 👍🏻 tm will take 7 days to reply
Can I use clubsport v2.5
This shifter uses a USB connection to your computer. So you can use it with any wheel system as long as you have connected to your PC. There is another model that can be used on the PC, PS4, and XBox.
Sim Racing Garage Thank you I know my question Was kinda vague
I plugged my handbrake into my wheel base but it doesn't work does anyone have any idea what I should do
Mine didn't either, I'm on PC so I just plugged it straight into my pc with the USB adapter.
It only works as a sequential shifter if plugged directly into the wheel base.
