- "I read a letter sent by a young Russian soldier to the mayor of his home town, begging him not to send any more young men to the war to die. His brothers and some friends have already been killed." - JW
This song deals with the shame and futility of sacrificing so many young lives for warmongering military leaders.
Many thanks to these lovely folks who made this video - go and check out their work!

John can still hit the high notes conveying his passionate plea for peace. Remember Russia, Putin will pass. It's just a matter of time.
Great song! The intro and the melody of some parts of the song remind me of 'Man In Someone Else's Skin' 😀.
Marvellous!
Brilliant lyrics and beautiful song ⭐
I always enjoy listening to your music. Even as a teenager. About 35 years ago 😃
What a poignant song about the futility of war and those in charge sending young men to die needlessly on foreign soil. No war has ever served a purpose except to bury million of wasted lives, lives that had so much to give and do. Your day will come putin. Not lost that ability to put into words and a tune a song about the situation. Thanks for posting and sharing John.
great song. thanks! peace and love!
Wow, the video really helps convey the message!
Glad you think so!
This song's vibes reminds me of how i felt hearing Glen Hansard the first time--not sure if it's a timbre or accent thing, but it resonates in my soul.
Thanks for another great tune to live by, Fischer-Z.
Fischer Z es una banda con un sello propio, inconfundible... lo que les hace grandes... sin duda, una de las bandas más infravaloradas de la Historia...
Really nice 👍👍👍
Great video!
🙂
hello john. i've been an enthusiastic listener of your music since the 80s.
you hit the nail on the head with this song.
i can't add anything to that except that it's sad but true.
many greetings from germany and please go on with your fantastic songs.
ps: why isn't there a reissue of "going deaf for a living" on vinyl yet?
Everyone is calling for peace in Gaza, no one is calling for peace in Ukraine?
Gaza is a more readily identifiable existential crisis.
