The original SAW is a movie that in many ways was unfairly branded as being torture porn while also having people say that it's super gory. But it really isn't in either case. Saw this in theaters on a whim with a friend. We both lost our minds when Kramer got up at the end. Those are moments in life that you just don't forget.
what this franchise boils down to is just a really gory soap opera with a phenomenal score and also james wan LMAO this is one of my favorite franchises because the sequels actually answer questions and continue the timeline properly instead of forgetting all about the previous plot points.
Yes!!! I love Saw and I'm so happy you liked it! And it's definitely worth the whole series, some of the movies aren't great but the ones that are, are amazing!
I do think it’s worth it watching all of them because there is a plot line woven through all, but fair warning, there are many more “games” or traps and it definitely gets more gory lol
First time I've seen your content, and huge props to the way your videos are edited. SAW is one of my all time favourite horrors, SAW II is good as well, the rest are not really worth it imo (They go into the territory you thought the franchise was, far more focused on traps and gore). I went to the theatre to see this. EVERYONE WAS SURPISED AND CURSING at the reveal! It was my best experience at the movies!!! So much popcorn and soda in the air!!! AMAZING!!! BEST ENDING EVER!!!
I've seen countless movies in my life - lot of them major "twist" movies - and I consider this one to be one of the best. Maybe THE best. You just feel your stomach drop when John stands up for the first time. I'd like to think that that twist alone is what turned Saw into a massive franchise and Jigsaw one of the most famous icons of horror.
No way! I just started rewatching the whole series again today. Literally just finished the second movie 5 minutes ago. Please watch all of the movies, it’s such a great series
I very recently got into this series and it is SO MUCH FUN! The later movies do get more into the gore but they are still wildly entertaining and they all connect to one another so that adds another fun side to watching. Highly recommend continuing these!!!
The series does get increasingly more gory/campy as it goes on, but still has a lot of fun twists and turns along the way… but none as mind shattering as the twist at the end of the first one. Saw X (the one that just came out in September of 2023) is by far the best of the sequels, but I remember my mind just imploding the first time I saw that twist when it originally came out in theaters. And James Wan is know for many thing, but you’d probably know him as the director/producer of The Conjuring series.
First 2 were the best, but I do appreciate the (albeit messy) worldbuilding, and in a weird way the longer you're on the Saw ride the more payoff there is? lol Good luck, definitely a "quality varies" series, but when they're good, they're great
I saw this in the theater, and my reaction was similar to yours. I saw so happy to have some original horror content with a great ending! I immediately started recommending to everyone I knew.
Glad you liked this one. I would suggest you check out Seven by David Fincher of you haven't seen it already. It was a huge inspiration for this movie and while it is more neo-noir than straight horror, it would fit nicely in the spooky season line up. Great video as always.
Since you mentioned Hefner coming to your school, I was lucky enough to befriend Darren Lynn Bousman (Director of SAW 2-4) back in college, too. He was an alum of my film school, so he popped in several times during my time there. He even gifted me a copy of one of his films after we chatted for a bit. Great guy, as are most of the people involved in this franchise.
Saw is definitely a movie that gets unfairly prejudged a lot. It's geniunely an amazingly executed thriller and mystery. The more the franchise went on, the gorier it gets. But I would suggest watch the first three or four original saws to really understand how complex and thematic this franchise is. Also, FANTASTIC EDITING CAITLIN!
I love the practical effects in this series of these films! So much stuff you don’t see anymore. I’d say the series is worth watching through once at least.
My dad and I watched this when it first came out. I was 14. He randomly saw it in a Redbox one evening and brought it home to watch with me as he was a fan of Danny Glover and he assumed this was a thriller/cop drama. We were sorely mistaken and needless to say he stopped bringing home random movies to show his 14 year old son.
I was just like you, Caitlin! I always said I would never be able to watch a Saw movie. Now, your reactions allowed me to bear through at least one of them, so thank you! We can conquer our fears!

She wasn't even scared, she seemed to thrive on this movie!
The saw series actually has a shockingly good story.
And yes. The ending, including that iconic music theme, is what makes this movie especially grand.
the thing about the Saw series is that the traps get crazier & more gruesome throughout, so i'm interested if you're gonna continue watching the franchise :0
i love the saw franchise sm. just watched saw x earlier and GODDAMN
YESSSSS do the others. some of the others can get a little indulgent in the gore, i think 3 and 4 are the most guilty of this, but the movies are at the very least never boring, even if some are certainly better than others xd
at the very least, Saw 2 is a must
Saw this in theaters on a whim with a friend. We both lost our minds when Kramer got up at the end. Those are moments in life that you just don't forget.
The puppet's name is Billy.
what this franchise boils down to is just a really gory soap opera with a phenomenal score and also james wan LMAO
this is one of my favorite franchises because the sequels actually answer questions and continue the timeline properly instead of forgetting all about the previous plot points.
Yes!!! I love Saw and I'm so happy you liked it! And it's definitely worth the whole series, some of the movies aren't great but the ones that are, are amazing!
The past, present and future mash up is an ongoing theme in the movies.
I do think it’s worth it watching all of them because there is a plot line woven through all, but fair warning, there are many more “games” or traps and it definitely gets more gory lol
Though, imo Human Centipede and Hostel are 1,000x harder to watch…scenes I wish I could forget😫
First time I've seen your content, and huge props to the way your videos are edited.
SAW is one of my all time favourite horrors, SAW II is good as well, the rest are not really worth it imo (They go into the territory you thought the franchise was, far more focused on traps and gore).
Love your energy :)
Oh ho ho! Boy Caitlin are you in for one hell of a looonnng gruesome ride! Can't wait to see you react to the entire franchise! Plus with Saw X out now you'll be able to finish everything off with a prequel! Have fun and try not to throw up... lol
the movie was so good it spawned a franchise..... the first one is still my favorite and when the dude gets up is a great moment.
Loved this one, and the next. After that it's all about the death traps. What there is of a story gets so convoluted.
"i can't tell if you're a genius or a dumbass, i really don't know" saw franchise in a nutshell
Would love if you did the whole franchise it's worth the watch yull learn plenty of more back stories on certain characters
Absolutely living for the little “Ready For It?” snippet at 2:33 when you said “is this where the games begin?” 😍🤩
it's so nice to see someone finding joy in a new movie. CM was super stocked today
I went to the theatre to see this. EVERYONE WAS SURPISED AND CURSING at the reveal! It was my best experience at the movies!!! So much popcorn and soda in the air!!! AMAZING!!! BEST ENDING EVER!!!
That expression in the thumbnail says “Traumatized for Life”
🙃
I've seen countless movies in my life - lot of them major "twist" movies - and I consider this one to be one of the best. Maybe THE best. You just feel your stomach drop when John stands up for the first time. I'd like to think that that twist alone is what turned Saw into a massive franchise and Jigsaw one of the most famous icons of horror.
No way! I just started rewatching the whole series again today. Literally just finished the second movie 5 minutes ago. Please watch all of the movies, it’s such a great series
the one who played adam is actually the original writer of this movie with the help of her director friend which is james who directed the movie
First 2 were the best, but I do appreciate the (albeit messy) worldbuilding, and in a weird way the longer you're on the Saw ride the more payoff there is? lol Good luck, definitely a "quality varies" series, but when they're good, they're great
Nothing can rival this original twist for me
I saw this in the theater, and my reaction was similar to yours. I saw so happy to have some original horror content with a great ending! I immediately started recommending to everyone I knew.
There is something gratifying about watching you see the ending
Right on time! Just before my bed time 🥰
oh boyyyyy
The ending of Saw movies are always so satisfying seeing everything falling into place.
loved your editing on this one 😭😭😭😭😭
"she's confused" LMAOO
We call the puppet Billy by the way, its never given a name in the movies but that's what they called him on set during production.
‘Is he already in a saw?” My favorite thing ever said about the Saw series.
Not gonna lie, the editing here is ABSOLUTELY top tier lol so good!
@23:17 The Pig mask is used because pigs are an animal that don't like to see another animal suffer.
I love the ”Ben Linus” shout as a massive Lost fan. 🤪
I was just like you, Caitlin! I always said I would never be able to watch a Saw movie. Now, your reactions allowed me to bear through at least one of them, so thank you! We can conquer our fears!
You should definetly see Saw 2 as well, it is even better in my opinion !!
People who saw this on letterboxd (Edit: Yes I was mindblown by the ending)
