In my last trip to Bangkok I carried IKEA foldable bag in my carry on. On the return, put all the shopping items and clothes in it and checked in(did a shrink wrap to protect it). Its an option

But when it's time to take it back to home it's difficult to fit.

not at all!! I pack it all back in the same way - unless you've shopped from the place you visit haha
