Most “oil-control” products are way too harsh for anyone’s skin, and end up stripping the good oils your skin produces. It’s much better to use simple products in hygenic packaging.
Acne for most people is usually caused by what you eat/drink, rather than avoided by what you put on your face. Jessica avoids sugar, which is a huge culprit for lots of acne issues; staying hydrated is also important, and she drinks lots of water daily. I'm not surprised she has lovely skin naturally because her diet leads her to that naturally. :)
xylene I mean I also don’t eat sugar, or gluten or dairy. Or caffeine. And I drink almost exclusively water, although not as much as Jessica, and I still have acne 🤷♀️ I think mine is likely hormonal.
@@SuperPooped Ah, I'm sorry to hear that! Yes, hormones are the other big reason for acne. The good news is people often grow out of acne if it's hormonal ... that doesn't help you much now, but one day you may have lovely skin! So Claudia reminds Jessica of her grandfather.... Jessica’s cold cream reminds Claudia of her grandmother. Now we are guaranteed they will still be adorable in their golden years. 😊
I’m 78 yrs. old have used cold only cream a.m. and p.m. since 16 yrs. old. I gentle wipe it off with a soft white face cloth that I wet with lukewarm water. To this day I still get compliments on how lovely my skin is. I’ve never worn face makeup only mascara (now eyebrow pencil also) always lipstick which I use a tiny dab for rough as well! 👍🏻😀
Hi! I also have a very similar skin type. The little spots are comedogenic breakouts from the cold cream. The soap is definitely drying, and I would check your products for lanolin if you have a wool allergy (but you probably know about that bit). Staying far, far away from fragrance is a great idea, and cold cream always has fragrance. Your skin tone did look more even initially in the routine, before the bad caught up with the good, but I definitely recommend against harsh rubbing. Nothing that stings your skin is worth trying more than once. Perhaps instead of cold cream, you might try a noncomedogenic oil like sweet almond or grapeseed. I find any foaming cleanser causes dermatitis for me, so I use cleansing oils and products specifically for sensitive skin. Starting with the gentlest product you can find may produce more success in the future. On the other hand, if genetics has given you a blessing (which it clearly has), there's no point trying to fix what's not broken!
I think she was trying to see how a 1950s skincare routine worked for her rather than actually develop one for herself. Her skin looks great so whatever she was doing with the water and makeup wipes was working perfectly!
@Trinity M Lanolin is a great moisturizer! I do have the allergy, so I have to look out for it, but it shouldn't get a bad rap just because some people are allergic.
The things you do to yourself to keep us entertained during these scary times 😱 I would be interested to know which skincare routine was popular in the 1920s, but if you want to just explain and not put your skin in harm’s way, it’s more than fine!
Yes, tell, not do for the 20's! My Gram was married in 1929 and it had been awhile since she had eyebrows even at that point. Some truly scary stuff was considered skincare and cosmetics back then!
When I used cold cream, I always double cleansed with a cleanser afterward because I would get blocked pores too. Maybe use the cold cream to remove make up and then cleanse?
Oh, and cold cream does sink in somewhat--my brother dressed up as an alien one Hallowe'en, and my mother mixed cold cream (because they *say* it doesn't sink in) with food colouring. My poor brother was green for a week.
I ALSO have a contact allergy with grass!! I used to remove theatrical greasepaint with Pond's Cold Cream - it's legit as a makeup remover. But I wouldn't use it every day.
Why not trying some oils to remove very bold make up? Once my friend got a very thick make up and the usual make up remover won't work. Thus, she used baby oil and it WORKED! of course do not use oil that left a hit after effect.
I love this. I am a vintage loving fanatic. I get told that my skincare routine is quite long. Cold cream is my go to makeup remover, because you don’t have to scrub your face hard like you have to do with wipes. It’s like a little massage for your face. I don’t recommend doing the washcloth method often lol. It’s really rough on your face haha. btw I love your videos. They bring me joy and make my really not good days bearable:)
The cold cream is a cleanser and moisturizer, it works great to remove makeup as well. My great grandmother used it in the 50's, she got me onto the stuff. Women say to use it only at night regardless of what others say and then the ponds moisturizer. Then in the morning to wash your face with soap and water then the ponds moisturizer. You should try it that way next
re: cold cream, I'd recommend using a damp wash cloth to get it off, it works very well for me at least, also you dont have to worry about getting it on your eyelids, just keep them closed as you scrub them horizontally
I scrape most of the cold cream off with one of those rubber spatulas meant for removing hair removal foam (chucking the make-up dirty used cream in the trash), and then wipe with a hot damp face towel. Makes the towel less grubby and easier to clean. Less fat in the sewage system too that way.
My dry skin started screaming, when you said "put SOAP on your face twice a day".. there can't be any naural protection left.. I hope your skin recovers quickly.
She's right: never bathe with eczema. It really is bad. Showering with the coolest water you can tolerate is best. If you must shower with warm/hot water, finish the shower with a cool rinse. You'll avoid rashes and itchiness.
I think that you’ve got naturally hydrated skin, so adding more hydration to your skin will result in breakouts, and vigorously rubbing soap into your face every day, twice a day will dry out your skin, so your skin will be super confused, so it’ll cause utter disaster on your face. This skincare routine may work for someone out there, but I doubt it’ll work for yours. This skincare routine is not all inclusive, and so it’s not going to help everyone.
I’ll cop to using 3 products in the morning and 4 at night (2 of which are the same). That doesn’t include removing make up which I wear maybe once a week.
I'd like to suggest the 1580s traditional peasant routine: washing with water and a linen cloth daily! One influencer I watch who uses like 22 products in her evening routine and still has pimples I think 'are they really that good???? maybe just leave your skin alone for a little bit and see how it goes????' This was a fun video, good on you for stopping early!
I recommend you look into modern skincare it's actually kind of cool. Some good channels on UA-cam are Hyram, Lab muffin beauty science and James Welsh.

@@j.j.714 Caroline Hirons is a facialist. She is a skincare expert with decades of working in the industry under her belt. She is releasing a book called SkinCARE in April.
The key I've found with skincare is consistency. If I change a product or skip it for a few days I wind up with issues. I also find that being gentle is far better than being rough like they thought then (wish I'd have learned those tips in my teenage years!). Ponds cold cream is actually incredible though. It gets off everything like waterproof mascara and those all-day lipsticks. I wash with a normal cleanser after or use a toner (like a normal one or Witch Hazel if I'm feeling old-school) and then a moisturiser at night and an SPF in the morning. A toner is just if you have oily skin like me and don't want too much extra oil on your skin, esp at night.
I was aching for moisturizer for your poor skin this whole video! You are a trooper! Hopefully you’re giving your skin a break from all that harshness, and resting up yourself! 💖
I only use sweet almond oil on my face. It’s hydrating, but surprisingly my skin is never oily 🤷♀️. I use it to remove makeup and as a nighttime moisturizer. I’m 46 and chronically ill as well, so the simplicity of it is fabulous! I also do a scrub once a week or so using an all natural scrub that my friend made. I have terribly sensitive skin, but these two items never irritate my skin! Fox and the Forest is her one woman business. I highly recommended! Thank you for everything you do for all the spoonies out there! Love to you both! 💕
People - Jessica does not need a skincare routine - she has flawless English skin - Peaches and cream! Your bathgroom is great - ike the rest of your house! Thank you for your fantastic video's and always being so cheerful and bubbly!
You should try a Korean 10-step skincare routine next! It'll be so much better for your skin, and a lot more gentle! The Pear soap was definitely what made your skin so dry because it has sodium palmitate, and the ponds cold cream is what caused the breakouts and clogged pores :( Ponds works well to remove makeup, but you have to follow it up with a gentle face cleanser to take off the heavy oil, then follow up with toner, serums, and moisturizer to rehydrate and nourish your skin!
The fact that you are also a woman in her thirties who’s like skincare ??? Is the most relatable thing about you yet. All my comments are on your old videos, blame the algorithm, lol.
I'm glad you stopped early :-). My skin improved so much when I stopped using cleansers completely. Just plain water, and coconut oil to remove makeup and moisturize.
I have spent hours and hours researching modern skincare, but theres nothing I love more than cold cream!! I'm going to switch to the Pond's Fragrance free so it will be safer for my skin and around the eyes, but I have really been loving the Jergens All Purpose Cream and its vintagey packaging. It has the most beautiful scent too. Very delicate like floral and almond. I love to massage my face and neck every night with it 😊
I JUST use cold cream: massage in, then use a hot flannel/microfibre and just rest the whole lovely hot thing on your face. Gently wipe away, wash the flannel with soap to clean it up again and just have another rinse off. Add moisturiser if you're feeling dry. I'm lucky not to have eczema, but I feel like the soap and scrub would be pretty harsh!!
Hi Jessica!! You should try to do a modern skincare routine. A very simple one for sensitive skin you don’t have to do a 10 step routine. You could do a wash and a moisturizer (you can still massage it in!!) and that’s really it. You could use a toner if you’re feeling super fancy. As an esthetician I’m super proud of you for trying this out!! You’re doing great! Also I love how EveryTime you explain something about your hair care, skin care, or makeup your lovely wife says you smell like her grandmother it’s kinda adorable. Love you guys ❤️❤️
I rarely do anything other than washing my face when I take a shower. I constantly get people asking me what my skin care routine is because my skin is so soft.
I also often get asked for my “skin care routine”. Which is thus: When I’m in the shower, I gently scrub my skin with an exfoliating glove (very gently!), with only warm water. That’s it. If I do get any dry skin in the winter, I put some moisturiser on- just some cheap stuff I picked up at the chemist. That’s it. I think it’s because I’m maintaining my natural oils- not stripping them off with any sort of cleanser. I’m still removing any dirt or dry or dead skin with exfoliating, but I’m not removing any oils. That’s my theory, at least. And it works for me. I get many compliments on my skin, and even though I’m 32, I do still occasionally get carded (even though legal age is 18, they say they have to ask anyone who looks 25 or under- and while I’m pretty sure I definitely don’t look 18, I probably do still look like I’m in my early to mid 20s).
Omg Jessica. You are already delicate. 😰😰 I was cringing when you were scrub srubbing your face like that. Oo try an 80s face routine they did tge whole face steaming thing right
I'm on team eczema too, and I'm a huge Ponds fan, especially in colder months. It's also great for heavy makeup (especially good on stage makeup.) You can also use cold cream as a hydrating mask (especially on the dry spots!) At least where I am, there are directions that come with the tub on how to do that.
"What the hell?!" I love this side of you, Jessica. Also as someone with very dry skin, I felt pain watching you put bar soap on your face! I just use coconut oil to remove make up, because pretty much any soap makes my face skin sad.
It’s for sensitive skin .or so the package says .has aloe in it tho . We purchased some . The amber is a bigger hit in my house .I’m the only one to hand wash with the teal one .my 5y.o mentioned how now she needs to wash her hands again after washing with it lol
Ok, i am re-living my own past experience through your video, I did the exact same thing a while ago when I started going into skincare. And guess what? I also developed dry patches and several breakouts at the same time. This is what I learned: the dry patches were caused because of all the rubbing, it doesn't matter if it's with a cloth or a tissue, to rub your face with anything that strongly is a bad idea, please don't do that. And the breakouts were caused by the cold cream, it's very heavy for the skin and can cause clogged pores, but it is very good at removing makeup. So what I did and actually worked fine for me was to switch the order, I removed my make-up with the cold cream massaging it gently, skipped the tissues and removed the cream with water, then I washed my face with the soap to remove whatever was left so it wouldn't clog my pores, again skipped the towel for removal, just splashed water. Then my normal mosturizer and was good to go. Eventually my skincare evolved and I no longer do that routine anymore but it did a lot of a difference compared to the first attempt.
loved the video :D I am allergic to a whole bunch of skincare products and me trying to find skincare that works for me is a journey of much eye pain and eczema. Also, my allergies partially cause me to be hard of hearing so that's lots of fun. I've mainly decided to stop trying to have a skincare regime tbh but it was fun watching you try one out!
So, disclamer for everyone, with the proof of this video : soap is too agressive for your skin ! Whoever you are, you're not meant to litteraly wash your face that much. Your skin needs rest ^^ the cream seems great however.
@Clementina Yael Severina M. Clementina Yael Severina M. It depends on the soap, on the oils, on your skin. Just making blanket statements like "don't wash your face!" "Soap is bad" etc, aren't really helpful because everyone's skin is so different. But really, honestly, a gentle soap made for the face can be just as, if not more effective than expensive cleansers. I don't like the implication that people really need to invest in specific products or routines when the basic act of washing your face can do so much for you. Like it doesn't really NEED to be any fancier or more complicated than that
I was so surprised to see you without make up and with eyebrows! I mean, I watched the video when you had the micro blading done, but it still surprised me! They look marvelous!

I have eczema too and have also been advised not to have warm showers or baths daily so when i saw the soap I thought, “oh no Jessica, that’s gonna hurt.” I do, however, really love exfoliating with a towel a few times per week. Saves on any more product being used and feels GREAT.

Most “oil-control” products are way too harsh for anyone’s skin, and end up stripping the good oils your skin produces. It’s much better to use simple products in hygenic packaging.
I’m so jealous of people who don’t need to have an intense skincare routine. The acne never ends!!
My best friend's didn't clear up until she had her first kid; I hope you don't have to wait that long!
xylene lol at 33 it doesn’t look like it’ll be stopping any time soon! Maybe only when my hormones do!
@@SuperPooped Lol. I wish you good luck with it, then! Another reason to cheer on menopause. :)
Video idea: My wife designs a skincare routine for me!
This, yes!
Yes, please!
Yes!
Love this idea!
Claudia 2020 "no dirty faces allowed in the bed, only dirty minds"
So grateful for your videos to distract from the craziness of the world currently. They’ve been very helpful for me in trying to manage my anxiety ❤️
So happy I can help! Sending you warm thoughts
They've been helpful for my anxiety as well. Thanks Jessica!
Sometimes I forget your deaf and when you laugh my heart gets so warm inside with how loud you are ❤️❤️❤️
Her laugh is beautiful. :)
She is deaf?
Your eyebrows are looking lovely, Jessie!
Also Claudia's quip about dirty minds killed me 😂😂
The things you do to yourself to keep us entertained during these scary times 😱 I would be interested to know which skincare routine was popular in the 1920s, but if you want to just explain and not put your skin in harm’s way, it’s more than fine!
Soaps to harsh for the skin on your face and the oil in the cold cream is blocking the pores/causing the spots
Oh, and cold cream does sink in somewhat--my brother dressed up as an alien one Hallowe'en, and my mother mixed cold cream (because they *say* it doesn't sink in) with food colouring. My poor brother was green for a week.
, 😂😂
Food color stains skin, he wouldve been green regardless
Belly laugh
I ALSO have a contact allergy with grass!!
I used to remove theatrical greasepaint with Pond's Cold Cream - it's legit as a makeup remover. But I wouldn't use it every day.
Me too! I used to do makeup at Halloween and it was the only thing that would get that stuff off
I'm allergic to grass too! People always think I'm just making it up until they see the rashes.
I'm allergic to grass as well, but I don't usually get rashes. It itches and I run fever.
Why not trying some oils to remove very bold make up? Once my friend got a very thick make up and the usual make up remover won't work. Thus, she used baby oil and it WORKED! of course do not use oil that left a hit after effect.
Yes! It's the only thing that gets rid of every last bit of my stage makeup
“Like my grandmother, but gay” killed me.
^ That’s how I use it too!
I scrape most of the cold cream off with one of those rubber spatulas meant for removing hair removal foam (chucking the make-up dirty used cream in the trash), and then wipe with a hot damp face towel. Makes the towel less grubby and easier to clean. Less fat in the sewage system too that way.
That's what I use too.
I wash it off in the shower. I use my Aveeno body wash with a crochet washer.
And use 'CalaCool w/ Menthol lotion' once I'm dry 👍
My dry skin started screaming, when you said "put SOAP on your face twice a day".. there can't be any naural protection left.. I hope your skin recovers quickly.
thank you for always putting captions jessica, and telling us when we have to wait! 💓💓
Can we just notice that she never took her pearls off - & she didn't get them gunky? Props, girl! (Also, Claudia is awesome. That is all.)
I’ll cop to using 3 products in the morning and 4 at night (2 of which are the same). That doesn’t include removing make up which I wear maybe once a week.
*"Living the life of my grandmother...but gay"*
If there was ever a sentence that described me to the T
honestly jessica's laugh, especially at claudia's jokes, is one of the purest forms of joy I have ever experienced
I'd like to suggest the 1580s traditional peasant routine: washing with water and a linen cloth daily! One influencer I watch who uses like 22 products in her evening routine and still has pimples I think 'are they really that good???? maybe just leave your skin alone for a little bit and see how it goes????'
This was a fun video, good on you for stopping early!
I recommend you look into modern skincare it's actually kind of cool. Some good channels on UA-cam are Hyram, Lab muffin beauty science and James Welsh.
and caroline hirons, stephanie nicole and mixed makeup. makeup wipes - no, no, no.
Actually stopped the video early to make sure someone recommended them 😂 the scrubbing was killing me... how did people in the 50s have good skin?
It’s important to point out that none of them are professional dermatologists or aestheticians. While they may share good tips, it’s always good to check with people with credentials, so you don’t end up damaging your skin
@@j.j.714 Caroline Hirons is a facialist. She is a skincare expert with decades of working in the industry under her belt. She is releasing a book called SkinCARE in April.
@@j.j.714 they do state these in their videos themselves, especially Hyram. As for lab muffin beauty science, Michelle is an actual scientist.
I kinda really love your sleepy morning voice, it's kinda comforting
Jessica and her wife are the cutest i cant handle it
Changing your skincare routine right before a public talk, is the confidence I want for 2022 xD. Love ya lots!
Hi, I'm 50 and I don't have a skin care routine either. Like you when I try a skin care routine I come out in spots !
I use Pond's for makeup removal but use a microfiber cloth/warm water for removal.
I like inkey list stuff. Oh and lots of sunblock. I love the laugh after your wife says "only dirty minds"
I too am allergic to grass! Finally, someone else!
I’m allergic to nature. Trees, grass, animals.
I'm allergic to grass too! I've never met anyone else who is, but quite a few popped up in the comments.
Me too.. if i sit in it or it touches me..i break out in small hives
I was aching for moisturizer for your poor skin this whole video! You are a trooper! Hopefully you’re giving your skin a break from all that harshness, and resting up yourself! 💖
I recommend the current decade for skin care, and avoiding soap and fragrance! I do like ponds as a makeup remover.
all the skincare enthusiasts watching this are shriveling up and dying inside, myself included. good luck with the recovery!
Ooh early comment! Watching while sheltering in place in California!
Btw: I also get compliments on my skin and just use water and makeup wipes
I only use sweet almond oil on my face. It’s hydrating, but surprisingly my skin is never oily 🤷♀️. I use it to remove makeup and as a nighttime moisturizer. I’m 46 and chronically ill as well, so the simplicity of it is fabulous! I also do a scrub once a week or so using an all natural scrub that my friend made. I have terribly sensitive skin, but these two items never irritate my skin! Fox and the Forest is her one woman business. I highly recommended! Thank you for everything you do for all the spoonies out there! Love to you both! 💕
you look and sound exactly like my aunt if she was a 1950s lesbian instead of a 45 year old nurse whos obsessed with horses
People - Jessica does not need a skincare routine - she has flawless English skin - Peaches and cream! Your bathgroom is great - ike the rest of your house! Thank you for your fantastic video's and always being so cheerful and bubbly!
I’d love to see you try Claudia’s skincare routine, that’d be really cute
You should try a Korean 10-step skincare routine next! It'll be so much better for your skin, and a lot more gentle! The Pear soap was definitely what made your skin so dry because it has sodium palmitate, and the ponds cold cream is what caused the breakouts and clogged pores :( Ponds works well to remove makeup, but you have to follow it up with a gentle face cleanser to take off the heavy oil, then follow up with toner, serums, and moisturizer to rehydrate and nourish your skin!
“No dirty faces allowed in the bed, only dirty minds“ 👀👀😂
Same. It is nice to not have to worry about my skin.
Ok, LOVE your vintage style of makeup. But goodness you’re stunning without makeup too!! Those perfect skin genes are prevalent!
I also often get asked for my “skin care routine”. Which is thus:
When I’m in the shower, I gently scrub my skin with an exfoliating glove (very gently!), with only warm water.
Watching this while drinking my morning coffee and I'm literally wearing the same dressing gown as Jessica at 6:40. I've never felt so fancy.
Last time I was this early, corona wasn't a big deal.
Erin The Cat hello there
I live in South Florida. Corona is always a big thing ... 😶 ... 😮 ..... Oh, you meant - I was thinking of the drink, haha 😅 .... BTW, Hello Erin 👋😊
Richard Velez hello you’ve gone purple any particular reason?
@@Zanderren Hi Ellie. Just wanted to change things up. You know, representing Springtime with something lighter.
Richard Velez it a lovely colour💜
I've used ponds cold area for years. Use it to emulsify your makeup and then use a hot flannel to remove it. It makes your skin SO soft.
I came across the pond's cold cream makeup remover randomly in a store and I have to say its an amazing product.
I can’t remember what the teal pears soap does but it’s definitely different from the traditional amber pears soap
It’s for sensitive skin .or so the package says .has aloe in it tho . We purchased some . The amber is a bigger hit in my house .I’m the only one to hand wash with the teal one .my 5y.o mentioned how now she needs to wash her hands again after washing with it lol
Love your laugh at Clauds joke.❤❤
Even without makeup you are STUNNING. The vintage makeup is just *chef's kiss*
I vote Jessica and Claudia for Queen and Queen when the current queen retires.
Jessica, if you loved the massaging and the makeup removing power of the cold cream, a good oil cleanser will have a similar effect and feeling.
Oh God I'm older than Jessica. You are so much more sophisticated than me D:
imperialphoenix she’s more sophisticated than most people, its her whole brand hahahah
loved the video :D I am allergic to a whole bunch of skincare products and me trying to find skincare that works for me is a journey of much eye pain and eczema.
Your skin needs rest ^^ the cream seems great however.
soap ...is not bad for your face. wipes are not enough to clean your skin if you wear makeup every day
@Clementina Yael Severina M.
Have you thought about doing a collab? E.g. with James Welsh? He can create a skincare routine for you and you can check if it works for you.
My skin care routine is "check for chunks and dry skin, give a cold rinse if I can't wake up, and don't care about bedtime" obviously I don't wear makeup... but wow, what a fiasco about skin care! I'm so glad you stopped early! That was too rough for sensitive skin! YIKES!!!
I hope you're both staying well and safe! 🥰
The things we do for aesthetics even if it interviews with our disability 😂
I have eczema too and have also been advised not to have warm showers or baths daily so when i saw the soap I thought, “oh no Jessica, that’s gonna hurt.” I do, however, really love exfoliating with a towel a few times per week. Saves on any more product being used and feels GREAT.
Jessica: 31, never needed products
Me: needing a daycream/moisturizer from age 16 after every shower, otherwise it feels like my skin is super tight and it hurts. Yes, I have very dry skin, and still a bad skin routine. Also, I am allergic to some moisturizers and others make me break out and somehow still leave my skin dry.
girl that skincare looks painful oml but you still look very pretty and I love your accent! I'm a Texan from the southwest and your accent just sounds so elegant and old world, I love it
Aww I used cold cream when I was in like middle school because that’s what my mom gave me
Love this! I've been using ponds cold cream cleanser for years and will never use anything else. I use it as a make up remover (including on my eyes, but the tiniest amount) then dermologica cleanser and moisturizer after.
Did you use precious toilet paper to wipe your face? 🤯 The English must not be Covid19 hoarding. 🤣 The best skincare routine is the one that works for you. 😉
Rae Peronneau Oh no we definitely have the toilet roll crisis. I guess she must just have some or it was filmed a few weeks ago maybe.

@@kbkbkbklb " unfold" 😁
I watched this with my mom and we both had a good chuckle and empathetic moment. We've all been there with cold cream. Thank you, Jessica 💗💐
Why does everyone with great skin not have a skincare routine. It's almost like the reason everyone has spots is because we use all these products to get rid of them. 🤔
Hey, I'm new around here. Just wanted to say that your voice is quite impressive, from the tone of it to your pronunciation. You have the type of voice that would make it into a radio station or even commercials
