Timber just wanna say you have been my favorite character on alone of all time. My wife and I were on the edge of our seats rooting for you. Love your passion for Jesus and Life. It’s incredible to witness! You’re an inspiration and hope to meet you one day. 😃
Have had the Adamas for many years, great, great blade and some serious heft to it for a folder. Now...as for Leathermen, what a fantastic product. I have been using their stuff since about 1988 when I got one of their early PSTs for farm work. Since then I have gotten probably 15 different ones, all well made and have lasted and endured all of my jobs.
Timber, thanks for doing this video! I appreciate you sharing how much forethought you put in before going out on Alone. The effort you put into your choices showed well.
Batoning a folder is best done with the blade not locked open- so 90 degrees to the body of the tool, according to the Swiss Army knife guy (Felix Imler). I’ve tried it and just dont like stressing the multitool like that. Instead, I cut a wedge of hardwood and use it to beat into the wood- saw a small starter cut for it to slightly drop into. I love how everyone that builds a bushcraft multitool gets similar results as far as tool set but never seems to use the same methods. I built a Surge and encountered the same challenges. The Surge does have a removable diamond /coarse file, large scissors, the serrated blade (no gut hook though), and the strait blade. I replaced the serrated with a modified saw off a Wave+ (same saw as on the Charge), built a small carving knife for the small tools, made a chisel and gouge that fit in the screwdriver bit holder. The Surge as well as Charge awls are just too heavy- so much resistance they snap. Grinding it down in profile makes a huge improvement to its usefulness. Your mini needle and mini awl are really good, I like those elements. One other thing- I dremeled slots in the bolts on the Surge to make it field repairable or tightenable. The pocket clip can be removed and serves as the tool to tighten them- would work for the Silky bolt as well.
I use a rebar daily in my line of work but I have a Surge and Free P4 that I want to modify. Thank you for speaking about the Surge. I like it due to its size. The pliers are heftier and it has space for more tool options. Do you have a video on your mods?
@@leetrowbridge3938 I do, pretty easy to find the video. The P4 was one of a very few runners up in my choice. Clay Hayes is a proponent of that one, I dont think he modded it out though. Shame they discontinued it.
@@nightshadefern162 I checked out your page and it watched your Surge video and a few others. Thanks much! I do like the P4; the one handed use is great but still prefer my surge. The saw swap was super smart.
Great video Timber, answered a lot of questions I would have asked, even while you were talking about saws it came into my head to ask what you thought of Roland's cross cut saw, and then you brought it up! I would have asked what you thought about taking a kukri instead of an axe, I have the Condor kukri Alan Kay used in the first season. It could split wood but then I didn't know about getting through ice because I haven't tried. The point you made about cutting several fishing holes cemented the decision that an axe is essential. You also answered a question when talking about your machete having the bow drill divot. I would have considered taking the Tops Tahoma to have that divot but you said they wouldn't allow its multi purpose. Also good information about skinning large animals, that a Leatherman is enough blade. I'd have imagined you would need something bigger ideally. I know Jordan used a Leatherman for his moose as well. I have the Leatherman Charge titanium, which could solve your plastic handle issue should you want to buy a new one. The Leatherman Surge has the capability for swapping the file with a saw blade, and I'm sure this has been allowed on Alone before. The only thing with the Surge is that it has a cheaper steel than the S35 on the Charge, easier to sharpen but also to snap. Wynonna from season 6 made modifications and a video about it as you have, and I'm sure she said she'd been talking to Leatherman? It's a great idea having someone like yourself team up with them to produce bushcraft models, surprised it hasn't been done already. Great watching you on Alone Timber, up there with the best of all the contestants. Good luck for the future and God bless.
Haven't seen the season yet but I did see the episode where they introduced everyone. It struck me as the MOST qualified collection of contestants EVER. I'm blown away by your Leatherman. I had no idea they could be disassembled and re-constructed and your modifications are absolute genius. Your knife/machete is art! But it has two functions because of the divot??? Ridiculous rules, your Leatherman is one item yet has dozens of functions! Oh well, their game, their rules. (Edit). Love the Hudson Bay style axe! Not a common pattern, I have a Cold Steel tomahawk in that pattern and they also make an axe. It's one of my favorites.
"I'm sorry this is long" you underestimate how interesting these videos are Timber! it's incredibly interesting. thank you very much. have a nice day :)
I was tossing an ancient axe head my mom had that was my grandfathers thinking it was no longer serviceable. Good to know you can replace the handle because I thought the handle would wiggle out.
Somebody get with this man and let him design a good quality multi-tool! I'd buy that in a second! I only own really cheap ones because the high quality ones don't have the tools I'd want in one unit.
Timber, the off grid woodworker. Your Leatherman mod ideas are brilliant, like the removable file for instance, they should build a "Timber Edition" as you suggested. It would be great to learn more from you and other candidates which ten items you chose and why. You have a talent for explaining, keep on. Question: Is your friend still doing tailored knifes?
Those are some cool mods on your leatherman! I took one rather than a fixed blade mainly for the pliers. Did you consider taking a shovel? Mine was my favourite tooI I had out there.
Big fan here! Great job on the show and your channel! Just a heads up on the Leatherman Charge plus.... the scales are not plastic they are 6061-T6 Hard-Anodized Aluminum. So boiling them is not a problem.
Wow, so much information here. Lots to talk about. My main question is about the Alone rules. Why is a knife with an indentation for a bow drill not allowed but a heavily modified Leatherman is allowed? What are the limits on multitools? You barely mentioned broadheads. There are so many styles of broad heads. Why did you choose that style? Cheers from Alaska
Not only is the saw blade on the Katanaboy fairly thick, it (and any Silky saw) is a pull saw so it is really difficult to break the blade if you are using it correctly.
Respect to you for being open about your relationship with God. Thank you for the reading of Psalm 27. My wife and I loved your Moose Head Lodge skit. Hope you have a blessed day! God is good.
ops i should have watched the season before watching this vid. that crochet hook is a brilliant idea, did you have a lot of use for the pliers? great video, have a great day :)

Dear Leatherman, here's your spokesperson! Unless his contract forbids it... in which case....buy him out of it lol
Darn right.
I would love to see the Timber Leatherman.
WOW!!! You know a LOT!!! Thanks for the explanations and tips! 🤗

I fricken love the enginuity that comes out of legitimate survivalists
“…who cares! You gotta do something all day.” 😂 funny and true.
Great insights... thank you for sharing!

Love the review! My 9yo daughter was rooting for you...
: most important sharp edges in the wild alone: teeth.

Great channel, love the content.
21:25 Multitool
Cold steel finn wolf is an amazing every day carry. Its slim, very stable, has a great grind profile, very good price.
I love my Finn Wolf.

You and clay hanes need to come out with a leatherman collaboration, it can be called the Alone. Id buy one
That was great! thanks so much!

Looks like a Gransfors Scandinavian Forest Axe
My favorite edc for woods walking is a small sebenza 21 and a alox farmer x .
check out the leatherman charge tti, it uses titanium scales instead of plastic.
I love your “machete”. What about swapping your axe for a shovel?
Hmm, i would think a longer blade has more blade and would not dull as quickly.
If you take your big knife like a machete for alone 11, would it be possible to batoon it to make ice whole for fishing? Awesome channel 👍
I think you just changed the game as far as future seasons of alone are concerned
What sharpening options do you normally use in the field, if any?
Quality
Oh man, can someone sponsor him. Please add links to get those knifes. I want to buy from proven users.
Did you ever use a fish weir?
A shame that a bowdrill divet makes a tool a two in one when one can take a multitool or cold steel shovel.
So funny... cannot have the "machete with the "divot" but go ahead and take a leatherman
How long did you serve in the military for sir?
wouldn't that be my choice?
