  • This is a kit set review and build of the Royal Navy Kent Class Heavy Cruiser, HMS Suffolk. The Airfix kit was first made in 1964, so the quality of the moulding is neither crisp nor highly detailed. There is also a lot of flash that needs to be removed from the smaller parts. Nevertheless, the kit is not expensive, and as there are no other kits available for this particular ship, it is worth attempting. I found the hull and deck fit to be excellent, and when compared to other Airfix kits on the market, this is a better buy.

One of the very first Airfix kits I ever made in about 1976 when I was 9 a lovely build, still modelling today at 54.

There was a pet shop in Egham in the early 70s that had a small fish tank: they sunk an Airfix Suffolk in it for the tiddlers to swim around! Must say when done properly it’s a lovely looking kit.

Decent kit, easy to build. Still have mine after more than 40 years. The main guns rotate and elevate, secondary guns rotate only. Only modification required is to antiaircraft guns, that where inaccurate. Nice video!
