- I'm learning a new tune everyday. Today I learned an old timey reel called Cold Frosty Morning. I learned it from Nick Hornbuckle's playing, and he graciously agreed to appear in this video with me.

What a beautiful haunting sound. Both compliment each other.
I would buy the CD with the two of you playing this type of music!
Ive never heard cold frosty morning played like this. Its really beautiful.
Love it! Makes me think of the mountains of North Carolina.
It's tuned to open F tuning, so the G and D strings are tuned down 1 whole step, and the A and E strings are tuned down two whole steps. So GDAE > FCFC
Haunting and beautifully played!
an understated but nonetheless very evocative tune - and nicely played. I'm imagining a frosty January morning somewhere in the Great Smoky Mountains when I listen to this.
This is Awesome I love love love it
You were social distancing ahead of the curve! Always a pkeasure!
Absolutely the best ever.
;) thanks bee.
I play a viola tuned to violin tuning. GDAE. I had to run and get it and re-tune to this FCFC tuning to get this song under my fingers. Many thanks, this tuning is an eye,(and ear) opener.
Very awesome sound and playing! Thank you for putting this up on YT😀
Wow -- beautiful music from both of you!
Excellent!
this conjures up a beautiful ancient distant world, so tasteful.
That was awesome!! Enjoyed that very much!! I like the way you tuned down...it sounded good that way!
Katie thanks for sharing. Wonderfully renditioned! I'm adding this one to my Christmas/ Winter playlist. I really enjoyed it. Thanks again :)
I would love it if you did a solo version. I learned Nicks banjo version and would love to play along!
Outstanding!!
Thanks, I was automatically thinking in cross-tuning terms hence the two whole steps remark. Beautiful pairing between the two of you by the way.
Fabulous music that's making hair stand all over meh, thank you for sharing this.
Fantastic!
charming !!
NICE ! !
Why did you stop posting? Your a lovely player! Would love to follow you on Insta! The world needs more bliss like this. 🌤️🌞
brilliant.
This is the only way this tune has made sense to me, but I more often hear it played with the A & B reversed. Still, this is my preferred version. Hope everyone is still playing!
In Appalachia the banjo tunes to Amod and capos 2nd fret for fiddle in A
I love the tone of your fiddle. It looks larger than a typical violin (probably camera tricks though), who's the maker?
It's not larger, it's a regular 4/4 size. It might look big due to camera angles or something. It's an old german factory violin from the turn of the 20th century, which was then sold in a wurlitzer catalog in the states. I've had it for over 15 years, picked it up from Weaver's in Maryland in the 90s.
I don't have sheet music for this or pretty much of any of the tunes I learned on this channel, I'm sorry. If you want to commission me to do a transcription, send me a private message and we'll work something out.
I'VE JUST BEEN GIVEN A GREAT, BIG HEADACHE !
Really nice. How do you have your fiddle tuned?
Told you at the start.
Fiddle tuned down two whole steps?
Hey there, what tuning is the fiddle using? (Apologies if this has already been asked)
kinda sounds like Sadie
oh yeah..I do give this a thumbs up...this is plain good..
