My father was a mechanical engineer. After I had been working as a dealership mechanic for a number of years, we used to have these discussions about why engineers did things the way they do. He told me that often the engineers have a perfectly good idea and then the accountants come along and screw it up to save a few pennies during the manufacturing process.
@@Nuka_Gaming No its accurate, Im a mechanical engineer and have had to change designs and materials for less effective solutions because of management plenty of times. Also, part of the engineering design philosophy includes simplicity of maintenance and longevity. Money, is usually the problem
I too am a mechanical engineer ... we want to make things serviceable and on higher end equipment ($1mil and up we can because they are low productions numbers). Anything that is high production (lower cost purchase price) typically has serviceability take a back seat to cost savings ... ie buy another one rather than repair the one you have. This is the business case that is followed by all major corporations. Thus, a trade off between longevity and replacement is made at the highest level of the organization and they know exactly what they are doing. Even the most difficult things can be serviced, but it may not be cost effective to pay the labor ... thus, you do it yourself or you buy new. The later is what the corporations expect most consumers will do ... they just underestimate how cheap some of us can be who are willing to put in the effort. Parts are cheap compared to labor. Best of luck!
I like shop videos, even for bolt on upgrades like this. It's something I would do in my garage, and that makes it more intriguing. Thanks for taking us along for the ride Chris.
I do these all the time at work, you dont have to loosen the control arms, I take the tie rod off and the CV axle nut because it will pull the cv apart on these when it drops if not careful.
Also if you put the sway bar in a bind by jacking one side up you can impact zip those nuts off the swaybar without the allen tool haha and it wont spin. Not trying to be Mr know it all just passing along tricks I use. Works on the tie rod and upper ball joint too just keep them in a bind
Really the only videos I watch on this channel are the ones with Chris and/or Bec. Just straight forward work and good chemistry. Great work yet again Chris.
Not only are these going to give the added clearance, they're going to give substantially more support offroad, what we like to call Bottomless Suspension during fast paced driving. We've got a review of the ride quality coming up compared to the HOSS and 5100s.
Chris, you are a Wrenching Wonder! Getting pretty smooth with the selfie camera work too. When I put Bilstein 5100s on my Jeep WK they lifted the front WAY beyond expectations - had to do them over and lower the clip ring. Bronco looks better and no rub now? Great! LiteBrieNationShocksBroncos!
Chris appreciates the off road smoothness more, after this drive. (After often riding on straight solid axels and leafs, hitting bump stops). My old 3/4 ton would put driver and passenger heads into the metal roof, when not crawling the rough terrain. Good stuff Chris, thanks.
I just did the Bilstein 6112 conversion yesterday on my son's 2022 F-150. The spring compression with the Harbor Freight compressors was the sketchiest part. 😄
If Chris never shown certain things he shows in these mod making videos I can be 100% certain many many would make fails and or create damage for doing things incorrectly - his attention to detail for you guys wanting to copy the mods is No1 compared to other videos I have seen and I have seen tons! I love it when he says in some videos "now to the part I hate the most (electrics & wiring) but what I am the best at. I seen one video where the pile of wiring loom amongst other piles or wires on top made it look like nothing would work on the jeep, but nope he saved many KG's of weight. Great at teaching too, look at how great Bec is now at many things especially wielding! Guy can do almost anything! Great vids, great facts and time saving/problem solving, I am certain you saved many people from sleepless nights and from losing money and from causing damage! Keep the awesome content coming! 👍👊💪✌👌
Good write up Chris. My 21 Tacoma off road rides on 6112 shocks up front and 5600 Belstiens on the rear. It also feels planted. I liked the Belstiens so much i had them installed on my wife’s 2014 VW Touareg R line diesel SUV.
Looking forward to the review video. Have a set of these going on next week. Hope they settle the wild rear end hop when hitting bumps in sweeping curves at highway speed. It can really get your attention! Great video!
When you change the ride height it will change the camber and tow. So you need to take it to get an alignment right away after lifting it, even just a small amount.
So Chris you did a solo Lite Brite video and you killed it. I am actually, after watching the last two videos on the Bronco, thinking Fords are cool again.
I feel like the thumbnail of this video has something to do with the last video... lol You guys have the best sense of humor ever! hahaha On a totally different note, Chris is my favorite UA-cam mechanic!
Great video, men you have so much knowledge about builts, vehicles etc.Beth have a great mentor and Kevin and Brittany hit the Jackpot with Chris Thxx you see ya in the next 1
Chris you are going to have the “Camber “ aliened . When you lift a IFS the further it pushes the top of the tire away from the frame or in other words adds positive camber .. i know this because i have a Lifted 2006 Jeep liberty ( also with the Bilstein lift 5100’s) and had to get it aliened because of the positive camber .. 06 liberty is the same as Bronco IFS Front and solid axel rear👍
Me thinks he will probably run out of camber adjustment before it's in spec. Time for some different spindles and/or control arms. But if it's only and a couple inch lift might not be too big a deal
Chris, I hear you about the engineer vs. mechanic thing. Most of these builds are done by teams that don't have a lot of communication between each other, and the mechanical engineers don't have much mechanic experience. That is not me (ace mechanic, degreed engineer).
I know you guys are sponsored by Bilstien but I feel there are some way better shock options. Adding that much preload to the spring just makes the shock lose a lot of down travel stiffins it to where it doesn’t want to tuck the tire as well. I would look into ADS in Arizona. Tyler who owns ADS Spent a lot of time Dialing in the spring rate and maximizing shock length and Bump stop length to get the most out of it.
ADS definitely does great work we love those guys but bilstein has been around a Looooot longer and has some of the brightest and best engineers on their team. They designed the OEM suspension that feels fantastic already. This is a super cheap option for people who want to go that much faster. These are maybe $300 a corner and you get R&D behind an OEM manufacturer. I was thinking it was going to be stiffer and be geared more towards Offroad and lose some on road manners but that didn’t happen. It’s still great on road but now even more capable of higher speed and hitting harder stuff Offroad.
Why you didn't change your outfit like Bec..lol Bilstein is the only way to go. About put some on my FJ40 once my shop goes up next month. Rain needs to stop! Great video Chris.
I'm about to install these Bilstein's. Did you put the snap ring all the way up in front and rear? I think you did(2:10 of video), just want to confirm.
So my ???? Is.. Are we gonna rely on that snap ring when off reading and doing all fun stuff to hold that spring cup on the shock ? 🤔 I do like that setup just wondering about the snap ring
Hi. Did you check the disconnect sway bar works same as before? Because bilstein 6100 lifting the car with the ring of the shocks. The shocks is opened 2' And it shortens the rack travel. I guess you will surprised when you will see you new suspension travel.
Just put my first pair of Bilstein shocks on my truck thanks to you guys. I have never been more pleased with the ride quality of my truck. Thanks Lite Brite!
Couldn't agree with you more about ENGINEERS. If they had to work on the shit they designed they might rethink some of the crap they do. Great video, love watching you and Bek, when she's there work on stuff. Your a good team.
Why no winch? I believe the bumper is winch compatible. Do correct me if I'm wrong though. I would go for the hard top over the soft top moreover Bronco soft top don't comply with bad weathers (engineers failed again😃)
Good video, thanks for sharing. I heard you mention after the new struts were installed that you have 35s on your badlands and while you were driving you said they used to rub before when turning hard. Is that correct? I ask because I’ve had no issues with my badlands 35s rubbing. Thx
Thanks for the awesome video's the Light Bright Team puts out. Since you are one one of my favorite mechanics (Chris and Beck) I have a question that has no link to this video what so ever but I hope you still want to answer this one. I have a 4.0 TJ and I was thinking on adding an oil catch can. Can you tell me what vent to use? There are two vents on the 4.0 valve cover (one on the front and one on the back) When I look at pictures on Google or watch YT video's on this subject, I see some connecting the front vent to the catch can, and some use the back vent. But both of the vents tend to spit a some oil/fumes. Sometimes during a cold start, it feels like the valves nearest to the firewall are a bit "sticky" so the engine runs a little rough but after a few seconds (or one engine rev) it runs smoothly. I think this is due to carbon build up. So my gut tells me to put the oil catch can on the vent closest to te back of the engine (nearest to the fire wall) What would you recommend? Is there an additive you recommend that could clear some of the carbon buildup? Thanks my friends, love from the Netherlands 😉
Great video and content. Would the 6100 swap work the same for badlands non squach? Factory 33s and a little less factory lift than the squach. Im considering 2-2.5” lift and level and jumping to 35’s. This seems like a great and easy setup, satisfying my needs.
Glad you and Bec are on this channel need more people who actually do the work on the vehicles.

Changed my suspension on my Colorado. Got a set of spring compressors like you showed from Harbor Freight. They worked.
Chris, you do a great job explaining thing so most anyone would understand and plus you bring your funny and entertaining personality to the channel.

AWESOME content Litebrite Nation crew! I don't even own a Bronco and still, watch every video.
Obi-Wan Chris does it again! Love the shop videos and your attention to detail. Learn something every time!

Awesome video Chris!! I hope people soak up what Chris is spilling, lots of knowledge ❤❤💯🤙
Lol. We need a series for Chris’ solo videos. Such a great mechanic and person. The Bronco is slowly growing on me too.
Do you know how hard it is to work AND hold a phone? Lol. Thanks tho. 🙏
You're not too happy Chris we understand work is hard but once you're done you're going to have some pleasure with it and a whole bunch of fun
Thanks for takin us out into the nature. and stopping and listening. I loved it.
You have such great skills and know so much. You should have your own show on tv 👍
Chris, Your Bronco usage assessment. is spot on.
Thanks Chris! I enjoyed this video as like the others. The peacefulness of nature and being away from everything is felt. 👍
1/2 of Lite Brite Garage. Thank you for your time.

How are these vs the stock Badlands HOSS suspension with the internal bump stops / do the 6100's have internal bumps?
26:17 For me, nature's one of the neatest things on this planet. Everyone should know how neat nature is.
I have this job coming up soon, on a different Ford. Today, I learned something new. Orientation. Thank you! Gooday from Australia. :)
My lottery is you finishing the build on my truck mister. Then I know it would be right. You are fantastic.
I love the picture perfect serenity of the out doors in the middle of know where!

Love the Jeep Oval in the back!! So clean!

you know everyone is going to ask about 37s now.. .. great video..

Your Bronco vids were few and far between. But now I see a good bump in Bronco content so I now will hit subscribe!
It's been at NVM for R&D for their products, I do believe. Plus the magic of television..
As usual, great work Chris!
Great video Chris- you know your craft and you know how to explain it!
Check the left front tire, looks to have positive camber. The next mod maybe a body lift that Bronco Buster is manufacturing.
I'm about to install these Bilstein's. Did you put the snap ring all the way up in front and rear? I think you did(2:10 of video), just want to confirm.
Thank you for the video your fun to watch. I can't wait until we are able to do the same to our Bronco!
So my ???? Is.. Are we gonna rely on that snap ring when off reading and doing all fun stuff to hold that spring cup on the shock ? 🤔 I do like that setup just wondering about the snap ring
The snap ring is captured by the lower cup. The cup sits down over the ring. It can not come out. 😁
@16:10 “Stud with the pen-is straight on”.
Yup 😂
That’s a good looking bronco. Height looks amazing
Hi.
Did you check the disconnect sway bar works same as before?
Because bilstein 6100 lifting the car with the ring of the shocks.
The shocks is opened 2'
And it shortens the rack travel.
I guess you will surprised when you will see you new suspension travel.
Those next venture bumpers and sliders are awesome, they really set the bronco off !! 😮 ps. ❤️ lite brite
The Bilstein 6100 are adjustable, did the high gain come from having on a the top setting.
Just put my first pair of Bilstein shocks on my truck thanks to you guys. I have never been more pleased with the ride quality of my truck. Thanks Lite Brite!
Chris should totally go on overland adventure!

Yeah but what do i need to make 2018 Jeep Jk stock to have that type of dirt road feel like the bronco. Great show by the way.
It looks fantastic Chris. Great job!
Never heard a guy bragging its 2.5 inches before lol Bronco looks amazing guys
Good video, thanks for sharing. I heard you mention after the new struts were installed that you have 35s on your badlands and while you were driving you said they used to rub before when turning hard. Is that correct? I ask because I’ve had no issues with my badlands 35s rubbing. Thx
Turned out so dope. Good job Chris,
Do you have wheel spacers on this? If so, what brand and size?
Should those lower control arm bolts be threads pointing up? Or down? Seems exposed to thread damage?
Love the truck love the info, anyway you can fix the reveal of that front bumper going across before Kevin can only stare at it... lol
How were your tie rod angles after the lift?
Thanks! Eating up the Bronco Content!
Time to put some 37" Ridge Grapplers on that Bronco. Nice daily driver.
Did you re-use the same rear shock bolts?
if im installing these on a black diamond will i need anything extra ? like some people say a sasquatch or bad lands spings?
is the frame twist really that bad? Look at the bumpers compared to the body lines when its flexed out.
So if I order these. Are there different versions for sasquatch and base models?
What engine is in their bronco? I ordered the 2.3 thinking I should have of ordered the 2.7
Cool. Where's Bec?
GT28rs is that a foreshadowing of what’s to come?

26:40 what happened to your bumper?
Nice work Chris
Shouldn't the bolts be installed with the nuts on top of the mt plate?
Don’t forget the message on the inner fender wells !
True gamblers take an impact to those spring compressor tools, too - haha!!
Why can't you compress the springs while the strut is in place so you don't have to disconnect all the other control arm links/brake lines etc?
Even if you did. The strut will still hold tension.
@@Garage_Speed what do you mean? I’ve done this in other vehicles. I was just asking is something is different about the Bronco.
May just have to get a set of these whenever my bronco shows up. Hopefully it’s not too much longer.
For sure.. ordered mine last October ..Got a email from Ford being built next week hopefully ...🤞🤞
Great Video Chris !!!
Have the same bronco ordering it now
Looks great leveled. Love the color
UCA upgrade necessary with this on top setting?
Excellent video! Very nice do it yourself video.... But missing someone
