Excellent video as always! Well done on your race 👍🏻 I ran the 13 Valleys last weekend 110k through the Langdales including Esk Hause, very cheeky ! Now I’ve ran a good few miles over the Fells I can properly relate to your films, keep ‘em coming my friend 👍🏻
Thanks Pete glad you liked the vid and congrats on the 13 valleys! Looked an awesome race. I had been looking at it last year as one to do but didn’t. Maybe next years 🤘🏻
Brilliant for completing it, John! So many people didn't finish it because of the poor visibility. You did great! Plus, filmed it so beautifully! Just finished watching it to the end. Spotted that you now acquired an Ambleside vest - cool! Also it's so lucky that there was always someone running near you. I spotted a few people I know.
Thanks Olga.. yes there was a bit of carnage on the fell and quite a few DNFs. Hopefully no serious injuries, I haven’t heard of any. Besides that good character building fun 🙂
Nice one, John. Thanks for the awesome vid. Great to meet you...sadly, my calf popped on my warm up and was too painful to race, so I was gutted. Although I know there were over 60 DNFs and even mates I knew would normally do really well, came a cropper in some way due to the conditions, vis etc (one guy went down within two mins of setting off, smacked his knee up). So it was a really trying day for everybody.
Nice to meet you too. That’s a shame sorry to hear that. Next year mate! Yes I almost got caught out by a nav error due to the bad vis, only found the CP through luck.
Well done fella. I wasn’t far behind you for the first few miles. I decided to retire at angle tarn as i was losing faith. Well done for sticking it out. Brutal conditions with no visibility. The fact you managed to get some footage over slimy rock is impressive. Hats off to you 👏🏻
Hi John what a fantastic account of the race. It did look grim..we were over there the same day as your recce lovely area. Just out of interest what was the estimated distance for the race. Steve
p.s. Saw some bonkers routes on Strava for the race. Don't think Andy Styan's record was ever in danger! There did use to be a race from the top of Pendle Hill, where you had to estimate your descent time, but weren't allowed to wear a watch. Would be interesting nowadays...
Didn't you have your phone with you as a backup for timing? If you did you could even have just used the Strava app for timing, can't believe Garmin doesn't have similar in their connect app
I did have my phone but tbh I don’t like taking it with me when I race. One less thing to carry. Of course you can argue it can double as a safety device. As much as I was a bit bummed for having forgotten my Garmin I actually quite enjoyed running without it. Something I’ll do more of going forward 👌🏻
Well done that looked pretty grim. Those pies 🤣🤣🤣.
However you manage to navigate in those conditions, as well as managing without a watch, I'll never know. Brilliantly done, John 👍🏻💪🏃♂️
Thanks Mark. Time spent on a recce is rarely wasted and the one I did helped massively 👌🏻
Awesome video mate, especially in a race, under those gnarly conditions. Looked grim most of the way round, but those pies looked bloody amazing 😃🦾
The pies were divine mate! 👌🏻
Excellent video as always!
Well done on your race 👍🏻

@@lakelandtrailrunner oh you’ve gotta enter for next year, it’ll be right up your street 🏔️👍🏻
Ive already entered 😁
Another great vid John - well done. You certainly captured the knarly essence of fell racing in the Lakes in the Autumn! 😀
Well done with the race and filming it .Good video thank you .

Great effort pal
Thanks man 👌🏻
nice to meet you on the decent from blisco, great vid! Got those pies eventually
The descent off Blisco was nice wasn’t it? And damn those pies are good! We definitely earned them during that race! 😂
I loved this video John. You deserve so much credit for filming, which surely impacts your time. Great audio. Massively inspiring too 👍
Thanks Simon. Tbh I feel it doesn’t effect my time too much.. maybe by 10 minutes or so.

Thanks Aaron.. yeah coming of Bowfell was treacherous. VJ iRock 3’s aren’t as sticky as they’re made out to be 😂
@@lakelandtrailrunner haha I’m confident no footwear will ever stick to rock in them conditions 😫
@@aaronhargreaves7873 very true! 😂
A fantastic record of a tough race, it says more about the true character of the lakes than a thousand tourist board slush fests about Beatrix Potter.
Thanks mate 🤘🏻
Well done , got to give them Marshall’s some credit,
Lake District fell race Marshall’s are a breed apart 💪🏻😉
Oops, a bit of a brain fart there John. A good vid, also good to run sans watch at times, allows the brain to take hold and listen to the body.
Definitly mate. It’s quite liberating running without a watch or tracking your run. I should do it more often! 😂
Well done mate. Looking forward to one of your "standard videos". Enjoy your pie?!
Fair play John that weather looked rank
Type 2 fun mate 😉

Thanks Steve, it was solid type 2 fun 😉 distance is ~ 12-13 miles depending the lines you take 👌🏻
Nice vid John. How come no one (that I noticed) uses poles?

Great run John, considering the grim weather , another epic video . Will you be racing this Sunday race in Grasmere
Cheers Kev glad you liked it. Yes I’m planning on it are you? hopefully the weather will be a bit better 😂
@@lakelandtrailrunnerlike you say john, its all on the weather😂 but glad its a midday start, so gives plenty time to get there.
