As a Floridian who was visiting Boston just last week - I have a brand new appreciation for driving in south Florida. I had to drive downtown Boston , never having been there before , to go park at a garage for a 20 min walk to TD Gardens to see Peter Gabriel. That traffic was an absolute horror show! At one point I was in a wrong lane, a left turning lane and needed to be in the right - I bet you I held that traffic up until I could get over to right just as that light was about to turn red. The lady behind me was so mad waving me over while there is on coming traffic. I’m not dying for you lady - you can all wait just like you did.
At another point the GPS took us up some alley way to come out and go left - in two way traffic! Cars parked on both sides of the street, no sign of slowing down , again I had to be aggressive and put my hand out to let that driver know stop, I’m coming out - and I came out slow enough the oncoming from right stopped too but my god if I hadn’t made that move, no telling how long we’d have sat there!
    White knuckles!
And I was renting a car so that really had me tripping.
Finally finding the entry to the parking deck was literally only for the native Bostonian to recognize . It was so non-distinguished you’d only know if you’re from there. But we made it in - Garage at Post Office Square I believe it was. Such a tiny almost invisible entrance ! I got in, parked and almost had a meltdown. I thought downtown Miami is bad after an event !
Well, it is … but this is just as bad or possibly worse.
Leaving after the show wasn’t nearly as bad. Thank Goodness for that.
Salem - we visited there too , just as crazy traffic. People driving like they lost their minds - now I know why our traffic gets so crazy during season when all the snow birds come down ! I’m gonna be looking at them tags from Mass a whole lot differently now ! Lol
Having said all that -- we really did enjoy Boston and Salem and the people in general (not driving) that we met. Great vibes there. I’ll visit again but next time? No driving!

learning to park in Boston can be a challenge I live in suburb about 1 hr west. I have to manipulate parking options. parking on brookline side near fenway and max out parking paying a few dollars to walk as far as the prudential building. or lower east side of Cambridge to walk to Charlestown or even the downtown. willing to walk the extra minutes to budget on parking. there are metro busses always running if you want to save on walking time.

Salem used to be so great before social media came along, same with anything else that used to be nice and enjoyable.
Social media turned everything enjoyable into a clusterfück nightmare.
People argue it made it better for business owners, but they were doing fine before with enough business to make good money while still being enjoyable experience for visitors.
Now everywhere is just way too completely crowded, you can enjoy anything.

I moved to MA from TX a few years ago. I had the same car for many years without issue and drove it to MA. As soon as I got to MA I had to replace most of my front suspension. Parts of Texas had 70+ consecutive days of 100F+ weather this year so I'm happy to experience some cold and snow up here. I work from home so the weather is mostly a non issue for me. I do agree that drivers here are bad - worse than I'm used to in Texas but I'm a careful driver and haven't had any issues yet. I would say my main complaint about Boston is the cost of parking and insane high cost of living which is insane compared to most of the country. The rest are none issues as there is no perfect place. Overall, I'm glad to be here.

I'm seeing some very harsh negative comments. I've lived in L.A, S.D, NYC, Miami, south of France.
Number 1 advantage: a very safe place to raise children, very good public schools overall. studies show its the safest U.S city by far. Living cheaper is great. Living longer is better .. just saying
Number 2: 4 seasons ... the Spring and Autumn are beautiful , the summer on the Atlantic is also amazing. If you can get time away for some time after New Year's through third week of February it breaks the worst part of the winter.
Number 3 : utilities : well in Miami HVAC goes year round in Massachusetts its turned on in October off in April
Number 4: some of the most beautiful coastal towns and Sand dunes on the planet
Number 5: you can shop at Neiman's and not worry about running for your life like in L.A or being followed home in Palm Beach county by thieves. ( you know its true) .. the neighborhoods are all gated in south Florida for a reason.
Number 6: quickest access to Europe in the U.S for work or vacations
Number 7: proximity to NYC for fun without being in a filthy ..criminal hel l hole year round
Number 8 : ground doesn't shake, hills don't slide and rarely have to worry about your house collapsing in a hurricane along with your insurance carrier. Same goes for condos . not collapsing into the sand ....
Number 9: plentiful fresh water supply .... don't underestimate the importance of that
    I see a lot of L.A people moving in ... there's a reason
As far as the people are not friendly .... they're also not fake like in L.A or putting on airs like from Palm Beach to Miami.. they can't be that bad or the towns wouldn't be safe
remember : when the Marathon attack occurred people ran towards the injured and helped
the political extremists are mostly in Cambridge ... In all my time there . I didn't know any far left people ........
The property is expensive , yes ..... but what does that tell you? Its only cheap where people are running away from.

Don't forget the winter road salt. Turns your $100k diesel truck, or your $25k econobox into a pile of scrap in 12 years flat (or less!). Then insurance costs, annual inspections, and annual excise taxes on that same pile of scrap. If the roads don't do it in, I can promise you, the road salt will!

You alluded to it, but for me another top ranking problem was no where to *legally* park. Everyone likes to drive places, but everywhere you go is stingy on the parking. It's never stated, but it's true that every Boston person doesn't talk like the "typical" or should I say, stereotypical, way. I've had not one, but two boyfriends who were brought up here in the Boston neighborhoods, and they "talk normal." And both over seventy now, so they are from the neighborhoods. It's largely the working class types who have that accent. But I've heard all types from all classes. Then there's the old time upper crust accent which is subtler but definitely an accent. I don't know any of those LOL, but I do sometimes run into them! I think they're a dying breed, but as I say I don't really know one well. My biggest annoyance is that everyone assumes Boston is the only thing in MA. It's NOT. There is so much more to the state. Not everything is Boston prices. I've lived in VT, NH, MA, CT, NC, FL, WI, NM, AZ, Vegas and Mexico City. Europe 3x and I have to say the best health care I ever had was when I lived in MA even on the western side of the state. Top notch doctors from the best schools and they keep up their education. I worked in healthcare my whole life and there are doctors who haven't upgraded their mindsets since their med school days. MA doctors pride themselves on keeping up.

Taxes, costs, the lack of the food you thought was common in your hometown. Hyper-localized, self obsessed. Backhanded. Unattractive. But generally clean. That's why the English love it.

Although I lived my first seven years in the California Bay Area, moving to Massachusetts was horrible! Schools were way harder than California schools! I hated the way people talked because they sounded ignorant. What is with tonic and jimmies anyway? Being 😊seven going on eight, I tried extremely hard to retain my California accent and nevah lowah myself to "talk Massachusetts talk"😊. That went on for the next twenty-three years. That was until I got to move back to California. I had discovered that I actually had the Massachusetts accent! Mainly because I talked so fast and I would leave the last letters out, like shorthand. I learned that I couldn't pronounce the word "forward!" Unknowingly, I was saying "foahwid!" After living back where I was born for about 40 years, but with Covid and layoffs happening, the cost of living has gone through the roof, we decided to move again. We wanted to go "back east" but to Maine. Not practical to travel across country with 11 cats! So we decided to move to Sparks, Nevada (next to Reno). And that's the end of the story. 😊

Massachusetts also has a major state and local bureaucracy. Taxachusetts is definitely a common title that's thrown around and they sure do live up to it. Only Connecticut and California are worst. Most people who live in suburbia Massachusetts are elitist and unfortunately intolerable to most fun activities once revered, like snow mobiles, side by sides, dirt bikes, go carts, etc. They prefer electric, not only quieter but better on the fumes into the environment. Western Massachusetts is a better suit for this. Half of Central Massachusetts and all the Southeast and Northeast metro Boston area is where more elitism, draconian rules and intolerable neighbors are rampant. Other then that Massachusetts has some wonderful, loyal hardworking people and extremely beautiful landscapes and rich in the most history of significance. I've lived in Massachusetts for 21 years and it's definitely a love hate relationship but there are very few states as beautiful and convenient as the bay state. The economy is booming and needed infrastructure repair is being addressed and competition from close by neighboring states makes Massachusetts a hard state to overlook for residency in the Northeast. Only New Hampshire and Maine are better overall IMO. Non the less Massachusetts is the best commonwealth next to Pennsylvania ✌🏽♥️

I've been to a couple of cities and by far, Massachusetts is exactly what this guy is talking about. The biggest take away is the driving and the roads are TERRIBLE! They're uneven, different types of pavement on same section of roads, like someone dumped a variety of concrete and then half way smoothed it out. Unclear lanes and turning lanes. Pot holes galore everywhere. Very aggressive drivers so trying to make a turn, even with your blinker, you feel like that's your time to get re-ended. I like New Hampshire much, much better.

Finally got my family out ,and Far Away from Plymouth county, -The towns surrounding the Plymouth Nuclear Power Plant have all joined together in passing legislature to Prevent the Transportation of Nuclear Waste through their Cities and Towns from the Power plant in the event of a Radiation leak or accident. - So now the Nuke Waste measured in Metric Tons is being Stock Piled on the Power plant property - If an Accident happens they have 15 Extra minutes to Get out and clog up the highways?? Lol - Smarter if you get out before you Move in.

Traffic. Old cities have all the roads leading straight in and out. So they back up and clog. A newer design uses circular main roads with exits on and off. The Big Dig was only a temporary fix. Increasing population and therefore cars, will negate any gains realized from that project.

It's ok to move to Massachusetts, just don't move to Boston. It's full of people like this guy who can't comprehend other parts of the state exist. Boston realtors are out of control and claim that the overblown prices they created are "market value".

Im curious because you made the south comment. Are you from the South originally and moved to Mass? I'm from Atlanta and recently had to move in with family here in Cape Cod, Mass (more towards the west part of the Cape). Everything here is all new to me. Its definitely a big change, especially with the cold, long winters. Don't even get me started on the huge ants who seem to keep getting into our house which isn't dirty. 😩 Well on the bright side we do live 10 minutes down the street from a small beach so that's nice.

@@maximilian9295 Personally, yes, but not everyone is like that. I have spoken to people who are nice, and then people who are not so nice. Just depends on the person honestly. People up here, just aren't used to the Southern hospitality, that we Southerns are used to. For example, i once asked a older couple, and i mainly addressed the woman, for directions while taking a walk. She was extremely hostile, and even screamed at me. They were in a truck. She had yelled me, "Get away from us! No! Not giving you directions! Bye!". I wasn't sure if she was just a bitch or if it was because of Covid. I ended up in a argument with her because she didn't know im from Atlanta, and that i have no problem arguing back and i cussed them out. Lmao! But honestly here on the Cape, i have met more nice and respectful people then rude ones. I believe it really just depends on where you live, here in Massachusetts or any other place on the East Coast. People who live in Boston or any other big cities on the East Coast, are a lot more mean and rude, then people who live in smaller towns, like within Cape Cod for example. I try not to stretch out conversations when i pass people on the street or in a store. I usually just keep it simple, like "Hey how are you?", "Have a good day/night", or just "Hello" or "Goodbye". I came to realize that people up here like to keep to themselves and are usually busy, don't like talking much with strangers. Completely different than in the South. It just takes some getting used to. Not to sound weird or anything, but do you live anywhere near Cape Cod? I'm looking for new friends. I haven't really meet anyone around my age yet. I'm so bored. It's driving me nuts lol. Oh also I'm 22 btw.

Taylor, the huge ants sound a little odd...we definitely get ants over in Wellfleet but I'm not sure if that's the norm of the area. Also, Cape winters can be quite rough. Have you every thought about moving closer to Boston down the road?

You know the biggest problem in Boston Massachusetts is a legislative problem because the representatives who the people put there are the laziest set they only eating taxpayers money every month and so these realtors are the ones that make the money of Massachusetts that is the main reason Massachusetts is so expensive to live these developers are the one that make the state so expensive

There are pros and cons to everything and every state! Boston born here, grew up in northeastern NJ which is crowded by beautiful and often times miss it! Lived and worked in Manhattan for a couple of years or so and then moved from central NJ to MA! Don't forget the excise tax everyone has to pay on their cars, another expense! I love it here and there are far worst places one could live in like Alabrama, Mississippi, Florida and Texas with it's horrible heat waves, massive hurricanes and politics! Every winter I thank God I don't live in the midwest or around the Great Lakes or in Buffalo NY with their horrendous winter blizzards! Winters on the Cape are mild in comparison! Thanks for the run downs, reminds me of my late beloved mom who worked in "Beantown" and dropped her "R"s, everything ending in a ended up with an 'er"! lol smdh

More like 10 reasons to not move to boston.
The suburbs of the cities and the small towns around Massachusetts can be really nice.
There are so many conservation areas and nature/hiking trails. Camping availability is mixed.
I do lots of outdoor activities and gardening, have trails through a private forest i cut in my backyard too. Its also a Massachusetts tradition to have a beautiful yard/lawn.
I dont like ticks either but im not a baby about them. You can put on bug spray and avoid tall grassy brush areas and outdoor pets will pick them up too so you need to check up your pet regularly, give them a repellent collar and prevention methods. I ussually pick my ticks off by hand and burn them with a lighter. We even used small container with iso once to drop them in and they die. You can also get chickens and they'll kill ticks massivly. I have been bit 4 times this year but i always treat the bite site with antibiotic regularly, and i get the tick off before it's been 24 hours- that's how you avoid lyme disease. I cut out refined sugars and alcohol in my diet and mosquitos are much less interested in me than when i was younger.
Parking is much better outside the city too. I never have a problem driving in the suburbs for errands.
I agree drivers can be crazy around here. Most people are competent thou you have to drive defensively to avoid accidents read signs. I have been driving here ten years and seen 4 accidents happen, been in 2. Always check blindspots drive slow when uncertain. Let crazy drivers go ahead of you dont keep them behind you. Ive seen some crazy road rage and been a victim of others but ive been lucky i have kept my cool and laugh off everyone's silly bad driving. I keep my breaks, tires and car maintained so i can stop before hitting people. It's paided off a few times already👍

Lool, what’s up with the Rocky Mountain photo at 06:29 ? Mt. Greylock is the highest but not above the tree line. You’re killing me with your tick stories rofl. They live in tall grass and fields so it’s not often you actually pick up one. Lyme disease can be vaccinated against also.
