    Ciao Valentina. Great to hear that you focused in on a key part of teaching anything. You thought that your students knew certain basics but they didn't. I had this when I began my Italian language journey. I thought I knew what ' Parts of Speech ' were. My Italian teacher also thought I knew. I did not. Improving my grammar basics in English has helped me so much in Italian. Grazie a te per avere fatto questa lezione.

      Grazie a te per il tuo commento! Yes, this experience is very common among all students. I think many Italian teachers take this knowledge for granted because we (as kids) study A LOT of grammar in school, and of course teachers go even deeper with their training. I'm glad if this series is helpful and can prevent this problem for students!

      @@ItalianTeacherValentina Again, that's interesting. For certain age groups, such as mine, in the UK we really didn't do a lot of grammar at school at all. Endless spelling tests, yes, but overall grammar, no. You mentioned the word ' framework '. For me this helps so much. Grazie di nuovo.

    An excellent approach in clarifying these grammatical points Valentina. A question regarding adjectives...is it correct (in Italian) to use a noun as an adjective? For example, 'The wood door.'

    • @ItalianTeacherValentina
      @ItalianTeacherValentina  2 роки тому +4

      Ottima domanda, Jeff! No, it's never possible to do that. Since "legno" is a noun, we need to treat it as such. We say "una porta DI legno", so we link the two nouns using the preposition "di", which is like saying - implicitly - "una porta (fatta) di legno" = "a door (made) of wood".

I dohave a recorded live class on articles (including "la") available for purchase on my website, it's a 1-hour class with tons of examples and easy explanations of ALL the rules about articles in Italian

    Watching this one it brought to mind a question I had. When you are using a list of adjectives, is there any rules for what order you put them in?

    • @ItalianTeacherValentina
      @ItalianTeacherValentina  10 місяців тому +1

      Describing adjectives usually go after the noun, with some exceptions. Demonstrative adjective (eg. quello/questo) and possessive adjective (mio, tuo..) go before the noun. But I'm going to make a video on this topic!

    These are the best videos I have come across, and I have seen quite a few. One small question, So then to have gender agreement for the aggettivo, to write or say "a full glass" it would be, un bicchiere pieno, is that right? and "an empty cup" would be, una tazza vuota. Molte grazie !

    Ciao Valentina, why is it mangio la pizza and not mangia la pizza if pizza ends with an a? Is pizza actually a masculine word?

    • @ItalianTeacherValentina
      @ItalianTeacherValentina  Рік тому

      No, pizza is a noun, and it is indeed feminine. But "mangio" is not a noun, it's a verb (conjugation of the verb "mangiare" = to eat for the 1st person singular "io").
      Verbs do not change depending on the gender like nouns do. They change depending on the subject (io, tu, lui/lei...) and the tense (presente, passato...). Please have a look at the following video in this series where I talk specifically about verbs: ua-cam.com/video/Y7LrlV3gUWg/v-deo.html

    my teacher said "uno" is masculine. i was wondering why i cannot say " Uno Bicchiere vuoto".

    • @ItalianTeacherValentina
      @ItalianTeacherValentina  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it is masculine, but the number "uno" works like the indefinite article "uno" (a, an). We have 4 ways of saying "a, an" in Italian, which one you pick depends on the gender of the noun + the letter the noun begins with. So with masculine words beginning with consonants we need to use "un".
      If you need more help with articles, I have a whole class on the topic ;) : www.valentinastellatutor.com/register/live-class-with-valentina-stella-12march22/
