- The Audi S8 TFSI quattro tiptronic, is Audi's latest luxury super saloon. Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman take you through 10 things you need to know about the 571 horsepower V8 saloon, including everything from it's odd door handles, to how it behaves at an Evas Angels Charity track day (evasangels.org/).
With rivals like the BMW M760i and the Mercedes-AMG S63, the Audi S8 has some strong competition, with each boasting it's own blend of luxury, tech, performance and prestige. An entry level S63 in the UK will set you back £130k, and a 760i at least £138k. So with the Audi S8 starting from £97,000, and the top of the line Vorsprung model costing only another £16,400 on top of that, the S8 looks like good value.
The question is, how does it stack up in the real world? We put the S8 through it's paces to find out!

The interior door handles are meant to be lightly pulled and the lock opens door electronically. It’s meant to be effortless. Just slight pull and door is available to push open. Simple. Everyone in my A8 pullls them so hard that it hits the emergency mechanical release.

I remember some years ago, maybe it was Discovery Chanel, maybe not, Tiff test driving the McLaren F1. The car was orange, and he used headphones to be able to hear himself.

I love my previous gen S8 and particularly love the subtle styling. Not overly keen on the current wheel choices however I'll look forward to this being 3 year's old and deprecated around 70% before it sits on my driveway 🤣
Would watch a full video with Tiff on the a track day with the s8 and overtaking all the Amg’s, M3 and the rest.

If a c8 rs6 overtaken that c63s it wouldn't have looked as cool because the s8 looks like an a8 with new exhausts while the rs6 is dramatically different from the regular model.
Eventhough the rs6 looks so good, I'd still want audi to go back to this understated styling

Love this channel! I am sure this channel will explode eventually, keep it up guys! But why so late with the video? Others reviewed it months ago. Maybe better timing will increase the exposure of the channel.

Tiff hello you may not remember me but I did live in England for a number of years bud now iam back in South Africa I was there from 2002 to 2006. Great. Nice movie idid ones own a Audi A8 a 2011 one 4.2 petrol it was note reliable iam glad this car didnote die on the race track. I like that you over took the Mercedes Banz car a great feet no doubt! Actually it's the other way around. Lamborghini got an Audi engine. This engine got nothing to do with Lamborghini. Once you hear turbo, Lamborghini name should not be mentioned.

If you want to be truly factual, it’s actually a Porsche Motorsports designed engine that got put in the Urus and then subsequent Audi models. This is a fact.
@@TheHoroSexual Isn't the 4.0 TFSI V8 based on Audi's 5.2 V10 that got put in the RS6 and R8s, which also was based on their 4.2 V8.

@@TheHoroSexual if you want to be factual its a motor developed by Audi Sport and Porsche under the Auspices of the VAG group and Audi oversee the development if Lamborghini which would still be along morris marina with a 12 cylinder tractor engine or long gone had they not been rescued via Audi. Porsche use many Audi engines in their Macau and Ceyenne also.

This car is a rock star and I agree it’s a sleeper and that’s what I would want. That element of surprise. It’s a beast. Imagine when the plus version is released. That will have the full blown Urus engine I assume. And will fly around the track like usain bolt.

Great video as always but I think you should have paid tribute to its moviescreen heritage (Ronin, Transporter) - a chase sequence with Tiff drifting it sideways would be cool!

It was a former Formula One driver who drove it for the stunts in the Ronin film I believe. But I forget his name now.
I have the previous generation D4 S8 with same engine but shorter and lighter chassis. No it’s not a light car by any means but the D4 S8 is probably the best luxury/performance sedan made. Power can easily exceed 700 HP and foot lbs of torque.
Can it do a j turn it bootleg turn and not have the ECU cut off the gas?

Maybe with Paul on this one, allthough Toyota Carina in mid-80s` used to have same sort of weird solution on inside door handles :-)

If i was lucky enough to chose, i would rather have this S8.10 over the AMG. Much more comfort and equipment for a lower price.

Paul. You obviously know it wasn't made to be better than the glorious M140i. More of a Golf R and S3 rival. I think we'll see a hot version on the M140i next year. I caught some sneak preview shots in one of the car magazines recently. Bye bye rear wheel drive though. 😩

could be a door handle that you are supposed to use with the opposite arm to make it easier to look over your shoulder when you open the door towards traffic

The interior door handles are definitely wrong way around, like the drive select button where you press DOWN, not UP to go into dynamic

I'm a motorcycle fanatic with just an average runabout hatchback, but were I in the market for a luxurious saloon, this would be the car I'd want. I feel that not nearly enough is made of its aluminium construction. Anyone who pays £100,000 for a different vehicle made largely from steel, regardless of how well it's rustproofed and painted, is a person who, perhaps by wealth or by nature is less pedantic than me. I was impressed by the track footage that indicated a lack of understeer that has plagued many other Audis. Does anyone know if an effort was made to place that big V8 further rearwards in the engine bay than has been the case with other Audi offerings ?
Always loved the S8. The wheels do nothing for this ca and I agree, the styling is a bit too understated
Think that’s the biggest downfall (if you can call it that) of this car. Wheels look average where the car is very special

"it might not turn heads" but it'll put a big smile on my (or any petrolhead's) face whenever I see one on the road.
I think they will be a rare spot. So many previous large saloon drivers want to ‘sit up and beg to be noticed’ in an SUV these days àlas.

Nice one. But its really weird that the vorsprung s8 in Uk is avout 115000 pounds which is 126000€ and here in the other european countries this car with fully options about 180000€ so you have there really cheap cars

Beautiful review, well done. I like the understated design of the S8 compared to an A8. It is just that I find the A8 such a boring uninspired design, especially from the outside. Probably the worst design of the A8 ever I’m afraid.

Being different "door handles" is no bad thing its just different, if Audi would like to loan me a car i will evaluate and test a vehicle and provide them with some honest feed back, Audi dont miss out on this chance of some consumer testing
