All right, so today we're headed to Trader Joe's to find the best quality - and kinds - of meats that you can possibly get (whilst adhering to a budget)! We're going to cover a range of meats, including chicken, beef, pork, and fish, and discuss the differences between grain-fed, grass-fed, grass-finished, and farmed meats and how they affect our bodies! Hey Thomas quick clarification. You mentioned “100% grass fed” IS NOT “grass finished”. FLAV CITY stated on his recent COSTCO HAUL that “100% grass fed” IS “grass finished”. I have been trying to find that information on the internet and it says vaguely that “100% grass fed” IS the same thing as “grass finished”. Which is it?
Also, I would love to see a FROZEN MEAT HAUL. ;)

You are correct. From everything I have looked up this is what it means. He makes this same mistake over and over. If anything his preferred grass fed grass finished leaves more room for ambiguity. Since it maybe have been fed grain somewhere in the process? 100% leaves no such room for doubt.
It's grass finished if it's 100% grass fed. Thomas is wrong on this one.. and he's done this every Trader Joes video so far. Not sure why he thinks 100% doesn't include the final 30 days. There's not a single source I can find that says that's true.
To me 100% grass fed = grass fed AND finished. I need to see that 100%, otherwise I will think is not grass finished.
M Unwin I suspect it has something to do with his partnership with butcher box or someone else. I would hate to think he would be this clueless about this topic. Either way though it’s a little shady.
It bugs me that he keeps making this mistake. 100% Grass is 0% grain. It makes me doubt his knowledge on other things for him to get something so unambiguous wrong. He did the same thing with the Costco frozen burger patties.
Seems like 15% fat from 100% grass fed is better than 4% mystery fat. 100% grass fed = grass finished.
Thomas: Organic doesn’t do much for me. I care more about what they are eating.
Organic is important to verify that the livestock is eating non-GMO grain.
All modern grain is GMO. We’ve selectively bred and sought after genetic mutations and traits for thousands of years.
Can you please cover Gut Microbiome enhancing food groups such as Prebiotics, probiotics and also try to cover how they tie in with Fermented Vegetables and Raw Dairy.

Thomas, if you are still looking for ideas on a new video: I would greatly appreciate if you talked more about resetting the gut to reintroduce hard-to-digest carbs after an extended period of time on strict keto. I've been recently struggling with it, I can't seem to digest slow carbs like beans or brown rice and also gluten. I'm trying a reset with extended fast now and then slowly adding them back but I wanted to avoid mixing fats and carbs in my diet. I find this topic very difficult and can't find much resources on the internet. Thank you

Eat the fish scales?! Who knew? I skinned my Butcher Box salmon, and ate the skin on my Butcher Box chicken, and cooked my Butcher Box bacon (eggs, and asparagus) in the bacon grease, and I thought I was doing really good! SMH. Aside from the grocery haul aspect of this video, the overwhelming wealth of information about meat choices is staggering!! Thanks, Thomas! Where else would we learn all this?

Have you ever looked at the frozen ground beef at Trader Joe's. They have it usually by the frozen fish you showed. It is from New Zealand I believe and what are your thoughts on it.

jane0716 correct. It means it was fed grass 100% of the time . I don’t think he is correct here . Sounds like he is referring to meat that is labeled just “ grass fed “ not 100% grass fed . No chance I am going for conventional beef over 100% grass fed

100% grass fed means that the cow eat grass his entire life, which is the same as grass fed grass finish but different from grass fed
Yeah, Thomas showed the 100% grass-fed beef from Trader Joe's and said it was just grass-fed.Did you notice that? I notice that when you are buying meat you just really have to ask questions. He I think missed the 100% grass-fed part.

Tom I love you man, your doing great work! My heart sinks watching this video though. Especially looking at the the ground turkey. The stuff that ends up on the shelf at the grocery store comes from god knows what practices on the farm. There are more and more options out there to buy from business like us that source transparent, mindful meat, from incredible farms and ranches shipped straight to the customers front door. How can we better support you? Let's get more options out there which come straight from the farms and ranches that produced it? Many of us ranchers would love to support you and get you out to farms and ranches and do similar videos to this one. Again love you man, keep it up! just some constructive comments from the ranch.
Im pretty sure the ground beef says 100% grass fed meaning its grass-fed 100% of the time, no need to say grass finished too if it has the 100%.

I bought grass fed ground beef at Walmart and Kroger’s locally and noticed that it did not say grass finished on the front but a lot of these packages do say grass finished on the back.
Trader Joe's Secret in regards to ground beef- there is New Zealand Beef in the frozen veggie aisle buried near all the stir fry meals. It does not have to be organic since an imported item and definitely grass fed/finished. Tastes better than the regular organic ground beef too.

Thomas, when you choose the organic turkey - how can you be sure if the label is true since all 3 choices where from the same brand/Farm? Are farms divided into organic sections and antibiotic fed turkeys/meats in this country? I was often put off by the fact that 1 brand produces organic & non-organic - if they want to produce good quality produce surely they wouldn’t bother with the cheaper unhealthier crap. Please answer if you can. I watch all your video’s, love all the info you are providing - helps me in a huge way since I’m actually from Europe and i find the labelling in the US totally misleading. I had joined your September keto challenge and have stuck with the programs ever since, love it all & feel great. Keep up the great work, you have changed the life of millions I’m sure 👍❤️
Not from the same farm, from the same processing and distribution company. Likely from a co-op of many farms.

Honestly, I would really really like for you to hit the veggie section of any large super market. We focus so much on meats and fats, but I personally don't have a good understanding of what veggies (or fruit) I can eat with my meats or fish. In last month's challenge I learned to ear a lot of cauliflower and broccoli, but I don't know why, really. Are mushrooms good? I know that onions and garlic are high in carbs, but I love them. Can I not have any, or only little? Any difference between yellow, red, silver onions? Hit the greens, please :)

I appreciate all your videos, even the ones I don't agree with-which is this one. My nutritional therapist, who supports Paleo and Keto, told me to eat the chicken skin and go for darker cuts of meat because they have more nutritional value than the white meat. She buys whole pasture raised chickens and tosses the breasts out to the raccoons. I understand we all don't have access to farmer's markets and pasture raised meats. I like that you are telling us to stay away from antibiotic-fed meat and to assume that the feed is soy based and probably gmo-soy. You are so considerate when doing your videos and watching out for customers so you don't get in their way and I like that you actually buy and support the store. You said take everything you see and hear on UA-cam with a grain of salt even your own info, so thank you for giving us information to think about and do more research on!

Could you come to Texas and do an HEB+ grocery haul? I know it's not logistically convenient, but the store is insanely popular here, and I can check with the local management to ensure you won't get kicked out and have a wasted trip.

The closest Trader Joe’s to me is 90 minutes away in Ann Arbor MI! I’ve been in their Trader Joe’s in Ann Arbor at least 2 or 3 times and I also have been in a Trader Joe’s in the Bay Area!

I’ve always thought 100%means just that, 100% grass fed entire life. And your friend Bobby FlavCity also says that’s the thing to look for. Now I’m getting 🤷♀️ confused. Help
This is like the 5th time he has done this. I believe the 100% means grass finished.
I do as well, and my second time trying to have him clarify this one. One reason I believe it is so is because I have severe gluten allergies and learned the hard way 9 years ago when I started eating red meat again after 38yrs not (to help get more nutrients) and many butchers helped clarify that.
I watch Bobby too and I think if it says 100% grassfed that it means fed and finished with grass and "Bobby Approved". In other words, it ate grass 100% of the time, not finished on grain as Thomas is saying in this video. It's when it only says "grass fed" without a percentage or quantifier that's a problem. I could totally be wrong on that but I tend to follow what Bobby says. Also, side note, he says the grass fed beef at Trader Joe's has a weird and stringy texture and doesn't recommend it.
@@Cherylebreaux well said. I think this has just been an oversight by Thomas because his camera man seems to always focus the camera on the 100%. Think he is just trying to hurry and doesn't realize is says 100%. Some suppliers write is as grass fed grass finished and some as 100% grass fed.
Yes I agree with that on the % sign has to be there with the 💯. And that sounds unappetizing ‘weird and stringy’. That made me laugh!
Since he and Bobby have collaborated on a few grocery hauls and cooking, I find this conflicting issue interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
A good meat is at Raley's here in California. It's ground lamb with 23g of fat (3-4 servings so that's my good fat block) instead of the lighter 11g of fat. I am not convinced that the high animal fat is bad. My body reacts to it very nicely.
