MEET the real-life cat woman who gave up her five bedroom house, luxury cars and retirement fund - to live with and care for over 1,000 felines. Lynea Lattanzio is the founder of the Cat House On The Kings, California’s largest no-cage, no-kill sanctuary for feral and abandoned cats and kittens. The sanctuary currently homes approximately 700 adults and 350 kittens, plus another 50 or so in foster care. In 2003 the sanctuary achieved non-profit status and was able to begin soliciting donations, but initially the Cat House On The Kings depended heavily on Lynea financially. In order to keep its gates open, Lynea spent her retirement funds and sold her Mercedes, her Cadillac and her two-carat diamond wedding ring.

Gandalf Stormcloud Not true. She actually has a few vets, vet assistants and other workers helping out in this place. They also rescued and fostered dogs over the years. She's doing the best she can. You're a terrible person for thinking she's abusing these animals. If you think you can do better, prove it. Otherwise, you have no place to judge hard workers like her.

But that is also hell for me because I love cats so so so much but I'm allergic to them 😢. Right now I'm taking allergy medications and I hope it will pass with time...

You can help I'm many ways. One amazing way is to donate and if possible foster. I foster and I have seen all but 3 of my foster babies find forever homes😊 it's the best feeling in the world. I couldn't find a home for my dog who is a very large wolf breed and the 2 little kittens that I recently found but the smaller one has Wobbly cat syndrome although his brother is fine. They are very attached and I cannot separate them. So yeah God bless you for considering helping in whatever way you can. It's so challenging to do this without support. Every bit of help counts 💕

Well a witch is usually depicted as having a cat so...and you can ask the same question about hyenas? Why do people hate them? Well due to popular media depictions too such as the lion king. Hyenas are wonderful and caring animals, in fact sometimes more so than lions (cats)! So think about that!
Furiosa - Some people don’t like : cats spraying indoors, odors from the litter box, cat hair, damaged furniture, and the vet bills for cats. Some cats refuse to use the litter box, and having to be a cat mind reader can be tiring. No, I don’t hate cats. (I have 4)
@@lightbringer4273 I can understand that but some people just hate cats without even ever owning one or experienced it. And still decide to hate them. And any pet will have vet bills. That's what they agreed to when they got a cat or any animal for that matter. Litter box is not problem if it's taken care of. My place never smells either.

castlevina I’ve had cats my whole life and not once had be bathed any of them! Cats lean themselves. Like one time we had to wipe something off because cat went and lied in oil 😅 cats are actually very low maintenance. Buy them food, let them out or clean their littler box. Pet them occasionally. Get them vaccinated and sterilized. Imagine a dog huh..

Much poorer countries keep them safe, so there's not any excuse for killing them.

I've been there few times and also met this lady. She was so nice to us. Cats were friendly. They would jump to my shoulder and followed me around. This place were so quiet and peaceful; especially when I sat by the river. I love this place.

..... They have massive outside area so they're probably just walking everyday and clean poops from previous day
If cats have access to outside area they can dig the ground and after doing their work they will cover it with dirt. cats are the cleanest animals on earth when it come to defecation behavior.
I'll bet the whole neighborhood just smells great. Nothing stinks like cat pee and cat poop.
@dob Neutered male piss doesnt have smell. Fertile male piss also does not smell if you do not put your nose close to it.
Their urine and poop smell because the food. Fish derived smell worse.

Both of my cats are foundlings. I found one at the grocery store and another when I was visiting my mother in Pasadena. I put up flyers, Craigslist, etc but no one ever claimed them. One was already fixed, had been a pet, and had almost gone feral. They're both fixed, get their shots, but are in-door cats living the life of luxury (for a cat!) I'm dirt poor, but I have my cats so I'm happy!💕🐱🐱💕

There's great resources on cat behavior. There's downloadable books by Pam Johnson-Bennett, Amy Shojai, and some info from Jackson Galaxy. The area these cats live in provides enough territory that a cats can get away from ones they don't get along with. Look at Jackson's info on catification and see things from your cats' point of view to help them. I especially like how The Cat House on The Kings appears to be feeding the cats like rescues and many cat vets recommend, outlined on the non commercial catinfo dot org site. It's species appreciate.

Animals need companion of their own. When I brought another cat for my single cat they mingled up so easily from the first time and now they cannot live without each other.
You’re cats will be best buds, just give it atleast 3 weeks, and give them some treats when they do act friendly to encourage the positive behavior!

I love cats... I have owned 57 rescued cats in my life... I loved them all and it cost me a lot to keep and feed them over many years... Now I can't afford to own even one cat but I get to see my neighbour's cat most every day... This woman is doing what she thinks is right... what a big heart she has...

Usually cats only fight for territory or food or even the act of mating. These cats are spade/neutered so no territory disputes. Food and shelter is readily available so no reason to fight over resources. There might be a tiff upon introducing the newest member to the cat community but they covered the other issues.
@@deemueller6470 Almost all serious cat fights I've seen was between male cats over territory. I have not seen a single serious cat fight over food and I have experience with stray cats for most of my 35 years of life. it's really interesting to me that in cat's eye, food is not worthy enough to fight for it.

@@siblingcat4765 In my experience even hungry, malnourished cats are not willing to fight for food and accept the risk of injury.
I feed three feral cats that have been neutered. The boss cat wants the food dish furtherest away from people and hits out at the other cats to get them away and they fight off any new cats that come around otherwise they live a quiet happy life.

Bless you for rescuing cats and giving them the life they deserve. When I was a kid I had cats all the time. But in my adult life i didn't have a cat until after I retired and now I have two that I adopted and that's my limit, I would love to have more but I can't. Maybe someday I can visit the Cathouse on the Kings, that would be so fun. Again thank you for sharing your passion in these videos.

This woman is a saint! This is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. It is hard to do on a daily basis taking care of cats. I take care of 20-25 between my own cats and the ferals/strays in the neighborhood on my street. 25 is nothing compared to 1000. She's amazing as is the rest of the volunteer sfaff

Yes , Jennifer it is hard on a daily basis . I have 17 and its alot of work I am not complaining , I love them , they were all strays that I took in and had every one spayed and neutered .

@@buffy2875 I agree, that as hard as it is, it's with every bit of effort. They are truly worth it. All of mine are neutered as well, part of the local TNR program. The manager where I live doesn't want the cats around. Hate it bc when she first started she was like "oh I love animals, but..." To me when you start off saying that in a particular tone, it tells me you're full of crap, which she is. But she doesn't want the cats around, BUT will not let our H.S. come in and trap/neuter bc of the R in it. Sure trap them, fix them, but don't bring them back here, I've tried to explain to people, not just her, how beneficial the cats are. But ppl like that choose not to listen or hear or care. She tried to evict us twice for feeding them even after telling her we were feeding & trying to get them to trust so we could help them. Long story short, you don't have to like animals or be an animal lover but they aren't bothering anyone and without trapping and spaying, there's going to be many more,that ppl like us will be the ones to take care of the issues that other ppl have allowed it to get more complicated. LOVE THIS WOMAN♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡I HAVE 4 CATS OF MY OWN, INSIDE, BUT I FEED A LOT OF NEIGHBORHOOD CATS & KITTENS & LITERALLY NURSED A BUNCH OF KITTENS FROM BIRTH UP. SOME WERE SICK WITH HERPE VIRUS & I TOOK CARE OF THEM. I HAD A COUPLE DIE AT AGE 5 MONTHS, MADE ME VERY SAD! I ALWAYS SAY IF I HIT THE LOTTERY, I WOULD DO EXACTLY WHAT SHE'S DOING, SHE REMINDS ME OF MYSELF. GOD BLESS THIS WOMAN♡♡♡♡♡
