It looks like they only wore the hero packs for the shots of when they fire their proton streams. Obviously because the hero packs have flash bulbs in the emitter used as a guide for the VFX team to add the proton stream to later. Harold is wearing a semi-hero for the majority of the scene because he’s not firing and is instead handling the trap.
