3 lbs beef, 8oz beef heart, 5 oz liver, 20 oz chicken gizzards, 3 cans of sardines in water, 6 oz muscles w/o shell, 2 tsp freshly grated ginger, 3 eggs incl shells, 3 oz bell pepper, 5 oz leafy greens ie. kale and/or spinach, 4 oz broccoli, 6 oz butternut squash, 3 tbsp flaxseed oil, 4 oz cranberries, 4 oz shitake mushrooms, 1 tsp sea salt. Serve raw or bake low temp 325 for 45 mins.
@@pewtermom123 she said she's got 4 dogs and they are about 15lbs. She said you want to feed them 2-3% of their body weight per day. And with a smaller dog they go for the 3% but a bigger dog, like 50lbs they do the 2%.
For anyone questioning if they should make this food, here's an update. We recently moved and had to find a new veterinarian. I knew she would ask what we feed them (they always do) and was ready for the lecture about bad homemade dog food. Instead, she was impressed by their physical condition, especially my female who she deemed "the most fit cattle dog" when Sasha leaped up onto the exam table. When she heard everything that was in the homemade dog food she was impressed and said that is good dog parenting. So glad we found a good doctor who doesn't want to regurgitate info fed to them by dog food reps. My dogs went from overweight with bad bellies to super fit, more energy and healthy.
Thank You so much Dr. Judy.... You have changed the way I feed my dog and I can't thank you enough. I feed my dog homemade cooked and raw meals. Usually raw at night and gently cooked in the morning. It's amazing watching my 12 year old puppy thriving. I realize he's a senior citizen but he acts like a 2 year old puppy. I love your videos and Thanks for all that you do.
Si . que pena .Esta mujer es lo mejor k he visto en muchos años de investigación sobre alimentación natural. Me apasiona .y no sabía hasta hace dos días que existía..
You can also use the bones to make broth and cook it for a long enough time that the bones become crushable in the hand. You can use the broth to add to the food, and crush the bones either by hand or put them in your mixer to crush them up.
Thank you so much for your recipes. My dog had bad allergies , i have been following your recipes for 6 weeks, no more itching licking etc Very grateful for you help and advice.
I found you through Rachel Fassaro and I’m so glad I did. You both let people know that making your dogs food is a serious matter and what’s really required. I’ve seen other videos that make it seem like a stir fry is okay to feed dogs on a daily basis as their main food and it’s not
I use my food processor and it works really well. I then freeze-dry it to take backpacking. My dogs absolutely love puploaf! They are very close when I'm making it, so helpful.
I am so grateful for you beyond words , I have watched so much in the last 2 weeks .My Kenai ( Jack Russell )hasnt been well,he has had a cough been to the vets 3 X in the last 2 weeks,I have learnt so much.Thankyou so much, you are amazing for sharing with all of us .much love from Australia 🦘
Dr. Morgan you are an amazing veterinarian and a wonderful mom to your pets. 👏 I can see the love and admiration that you have for your dogs. I follow you for a few years now. Maxx my husky dog and I are very grateful for your pop loaf recipe it’s healthy and super delicious. Thank you so much for sharing and educating us the pets parents. ❤👍🥰
Thank you so much. I have two heelers that in the past have never done well on the same food. I made this four days ago for the first time. My dogs both love this and no stomach issues so far. We’re all happy now!
Hi, this makes a pretty good portion, and may need to do half. However, I have found that my new puppy may have a beef allergy. Would you say that the protein meat can be the cause, and what would you suggest to substitute, turkey or chicken? And since your recipe includes both beef and chicken (gizzards) how can I still make it complete if I'm trying to see which one he may be allergic to? I really want a raw diet (that I make work)... please help or direct me to a video if you have already made one for substitutions. Thank you in advance.
I had to call around to find a butcher who had the beef heart, where they sell the bulk meat. The mussels I found in the freezer section. There are also sites that sell the organs and bones online. My dog went nuts the first time I made this today... but I am slowly cooking mine.
Thank you! This recipe was the beginning of my nutritional journey for my dogs last year. Your knowledge is a game changer. We are so grateful for you. Thank you again.
Oh Dr Judy comma I just love you thank you so very much for helping the dog community period when I went to the vet they gave me down the road when I even mentioned homemade dog food and said I should be using Purina because they knew what they were doing period better have always fed my dogs homemade dog food and they live to be approximately 18 years of age and they were chihuahuas period right now I have one who is a Chihuahua mix who has a heart condition that I just found out about last year so I put her on your heart recipe. It was hard to find Hearts like you had suggested in the organs but I did manage to find a local source that I could order it from. So I am looking forward to taking her back to the new bet this fall to see how he thinks she's doing but it didn't stop her from coughing and she is very active thank you once again for all of your help you are such a blessing oh, I love the way that you seem to do things for the love of the dogs and not for money
I made this for the first time, as I'm getting used to using a grinder. They love it! Hope it helps my one dog with digestion problems. I'm sure I'll get better at this. No butternut squash available, so I did sub pure pumpkin for it. Thanks for a great video, keep up the good work. We need more holistic vets like you!!
Excellent. Thank you for showing the cooked version too. For explaining to us to use all the juices and also for giving us an idea on feeding amounts for our dogs. Thank you so much.
I am so glad I watched this.. I was so intimidated before to make the pup loaf ,but this video has helped put it all in perspective. I am ready for the challenge! Thank you
New here. LOVE George’s snood!! 🥰 I will look into your Yin & Yang book. Thank you for demonstrating this recipe. I’m still confused as to how much to feed our Cocker Spaniel per day but will learn.
So glad I found your videos, I learned a lot from you and it has changed my American Bulldogs life ,doing so much better now,you are a very smart and caring woman❤
Thank you! Great video & great information. I just ordered your book! Also, great idea with the snood for his ears! I am going to get one for my Poodle Mix!
I'm going to order your book! I've been looking for a great dog recipe book that was formulated by a veterinarian but only a veterinarian that understood that dogs are carnivores and so vegetation should only be a very small percentage of the diet as is what has been observed for wolves and coyotes.
Have been making puploaf for years. I know it has made a big difference for our older dog Olive with Cushings and hypothyroidism. I knew another dog with Cushings that had been treated by another veterinarian and she didn't do well. And your Yin and Yang book is invaluable. Can't thank you enough! Shared!
Hi Dr. Judy, wondering how many pounds of food this puploaf recipe comes out to? Trying to figure out how much to buy for two 65lb dogs. Thanks in advance.
I am so excited to give this a try for my dog! She’s got a sensitivity to chicken though, so what could I use instead of the chicken gizzards and heart without disturbing the balance of the recipe? Thank you in advance, Dr. Judy! 💛
Dr. Judy, thank you so so very much! This is wonderful! Just a couple questions- how do you know if your eggs have chemically sanitized shells? (Google search says all eggs are sanitized that way.) And can you use dehydrated beef heart? I can't find it at any butcher or store nearby so I found the dehydrated online. Can you use fresh salmon instead of sardines? I am so grateful for your expertise and your help for our pets!
thank you doctor judy. I have a couple of questions are the organ meats healthy for them being that they're high in cholesterol? Ours are on a homemade diet developed by a holistic veterinarian and we found out through a PTH (I decided to have it done to make sure their calcium levels were within the normal range) we found out that they were all low on vitamin D despite giving them the supplemental powder that comes with the diet. I advice people to get a PTH done after being on a homemade diet. Not having adequate levels of calcium and vitamin D will result in painful ortho problems down the line.
Can salmon be used as the main protein? Do you always use beef heart/liver or do you rotate sources (lamb, venison, etc). Thank you for sharing your recipe! Our dog LOVES it!
I thoroughly enjoyed the episode where Dr. Judy Morgan shared her recipe for making "Puploaf"! It's amazing how we can provide our dogs with homemade, nutritious meals that are tailored to their specific dietary needs. Dr. Morgan's emphasis on using wholesome ingredients and avoiding additives and fillers is so important for our pets' health. It's a great reminder that we have the power to take control of our dogs' diets and ensure they're getting the best nutrition possible. The step-by-step instructions and tips provided in the episode made it seem quite manageable, even for someone like me who is not a culinary expert. I appreciate how Dr. Morgan encourages us to experiment and adjust the recipe to suit our dog's preferences and dietary requirements. I can't wait to try making "Puploaf" for my furry friend! It's a wonderful way to show our love and care through homemade meals. Thank you, Dr. Judy Morgan, for sharing this fantastic recipe and your expertise in pet nutrition!
I had allergy testing done on my dog several years ago. She has many many food and environmental allergies. Her food allergies include all poultry and most fish. I cannot give her salmon oil, but I used to before I found out that she had allergies towards it. I am limited on what I can feed her but I do have her on a raw diet. My question is this: My dog in part Miniature Schnauzer. I have learned from prior research that Schnauzers can get Pancreatitis easily, so I try my best to not give her greasy foods like duck. I feed her beef heart regularly as a part of her RAW diet. I am going to start green tripe soon, but was wondering what other organ meats would be safe to give her?
@DrJudyMorgan - My dog is allergic to flax. What can I substitute for her? I heard Wheatgerm oil might be ok but I’m not sure. Also, can a calcium carbonate powder be used instead of eggshells? Finally, if my dog has MVD is she better to eat pup loaf or a heart-specific recipe?
Such a great informational video! Thank you for making clear instructions and making this look do-able. I will soon be buying ingredients to make my little George’s food…and also my name is Judy! What a fun coincidence!
I use ground flaxseed instead since I didn’t find any flaxseed oil at my local grocery store. I did some research and it said I could use ground flaxseed instead. 3 Tablespoon of flaxseed oil = around 148 ml of ground flaxseed
There have been several articles thT came our then disappeared about spinach blocking calcium absorption in dogs. That us the newest ingredient added of late to the food as well. Seems they can't process it like we do. What's your take on this.
Dr. Morgan - I have a dog that has been on hydrolyzed protein for 6 months now, with no improved with stools (possibly may be allergic to chicken). Looking to switch to a lightly cooked craw diet. What type of protein will be best with a dog with problems with digestion? Beef, lamb, pork, would be the best? Thanks a ton for taking the time to answer my questions.
Ty so much for the work that you are doing... Don't let the haters discourage you on your mission. I can't tell you how much we appreciate you. We're anxiously awaiting the results but understand what you're up against 😊
I heard you mention if you don’t want to use the egg shells to go with a ground bone. My boy tested as “allergic” to eggs so this would be a good option for him. Do you recommend a product and how much would I use in place of the eggs? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge so we can help our furbabies!
Hi Dr Judy, I know this question has been asked before but I cannot see the replies in the comments.. what can I substitute the chicken gizzards with? My dog is really allergic to chicken but I really want to make this food for her! Thank you so much.
Thank you for this recipe I'm going to make my 3rd batch of puploaf. My 2 dogs are small so a half of a recipe last almost a week. I am having a hard time finding a few things, I live in a small Southern town so no meat or seafood shops. I had to get oysters instead of mussels and portobello mushrooms instead of shitake mushrooms. I can't find a beef heart but a meat processor in town is going to call me when he gets one. My poodle was scratching literally all the time and now just occasionally. I had to try something s made this recipe and they both love it. I have added a multivitamin and a probiotics. I also sprinkle some turmeric on their food. I am also giving her a metagel just for right now. Is there anything else that I should be giving them? I'm waiting for your book Yin & Yang to come in the mail.
Been looking at a lot of recipes and this is my favorite so far. I have three large dogs and one small and doing this food everyday would be prohibitively expensive for us, but I'm thinking it would make a good addition to their good quality dry dog food. They get raw ground beef added to their food every meal, but I want to do more!
I love seeing how you care for your dogs. Thanks for the recipe, I’ve been feeding my dog homemade for years and this helps me to tweak my methods and ingredients. Animals are my people first ❤
I just found your video on unhealthy dog food and would like to thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. I had our dogs on organic food and our Boomer had cancer - Castor and Pollux. I thought it was great food because it was organic. Yesterday I went and most of the ingredients to make better food. The only thing I don't have is the supplements to put in there. Can you recommend what I should get? Thank you so much!! Anna
Question: Our 6 mo's old Italian Greyhound puppy loves "Pup Loaf"! He is very healthy, super shiny coat and tons of non-stop energy! He eats breakfast, lunch and dinner. After dinner, he does get a little grumbly tummy and a little gas... Is that okay?! He eats larger meals then I would have fed dry kibble but remains a healthy slim...
Two question- Eggshells get hard when cooked. Is that ok? Also, I was under the impression seed oils are bad and the recipe specifies flaxseed oil. Is it different for dogs? Thank you!
Hi Dr Judy, how would you warm up the food when refrigerated? Won't that cook the food more? I always struggle with my husky who had IBD and is extremely picky.
Dear dr.Judy, thank you for your recipe. It’s so grate! I have a question- we should put egg shells from 5 eggs, that’s right? It would be more than 1/2 tsp per pound of meat. Did I understand right? I just start to change my cavalier to the pup loaf and worry about.
largest batch yet with 7.5lbs of ground beef worked out to 39 days of food. I picked up a digital meat thermometer and pull it when it hits 145' for medium rare.
Hi Doctor! We’ve been feeding puploaf for 10 months now. Our pit-whippet mix weighed 62 when we began, he’s down to 52 now. I’m concerned about his weight loss. I expected some, but lately I’ve noticed ribs visible when he’s at rest. Aside from feeding larger amounts, do you recommend anything we should add to or change about his daily feeding? Thank you!
You can try adding some cooked sweet potato, butternut squash, and/or pumpkin to help put weight back on. Also, adding in raw goats milk can help put weight on as well. We like to use Green Juju's goats milk.
Hi Dr Morgan, the place where I live only carries Kale for the dark leafy greens but since it has been raining heavily recently, no Kale on the market. Any other substitution for the dark leafy green? Thank you very much.
Thanks for your info and your recipe. What’s your take on giving fresh organic garlic to our dogs. I was told by someone who owns a health food store to give 1 clove daily depending on weight/size. This supposedly would be given rather than giving the traditional flea/heart worm meds, getting rid of parasites and repelling fleas, mosquitoes, ticks.
Garlic can be beneficial for both dogs and cats in appropriate doses. I use fresh crushed cloves to get the full benefits of garlic. Most commonly, garlic is used for natural prevention of parasites like fleas and ticks. 🐱 For cats: 1/4 clove (crushed) daily, 3-4 days per week. 🐶 For dogs: 1/2 clove (crushed) per 20 pounds of body weight daily, with a maximum of 3 cloves. Best to take at least 1 day per week off. *Please make sure to note the difference between a clove and a bulb/head of garlic. Not recommended for puppies and kittens. Long term use is contraindicated in pets with vision issues. If your pet has a history of hemolytic anemia, it would be safer to avoid use of garlic in any form.
Thank you for sharing the recipe! ❤ I got some questions. 1) I cannot find fresh cranberries in my area. Only dried cranberries which have added apple juice and sunflower oil. Is there any substitute for cranberry? 2) can I use other source of omega 3 such as krill oil? 3) I noticed that you use fresh fish in the video. What type of fish is suitable for the recipe? Thank you very much for you time! 🙏
Is there a list of what I can replace with in the recipe. Like instead of mussels using kelp. Is there anything else that can replace mussels? What about sardines? What can i replace that with?
3 lbs beef, 8oz beef heart, 5 oz liver, 20 oz chicken gizzards, 3 cans of sardines in water, 6 oz muscles w/o shell, 2 tsp freshly grated ginger, 3 eggs incl shells, 3 oz bell pepper, 5 oz leafy greens ie. kale and/or spinach, 4 oz broccoli, 6 oz butternut squash, 3 tbsp flaxseed oil, 4 oz cranberries, 4 oz shitake mushrooms, 1 tsp sea salt. Serve raw or bake low temp 325 for 45 mins.
Do you know the feeding amounts for dogs based on weight I would guess???? TIA

I do that with the bone all the time that’s a great point to put out there I cook it for like two days and it totally is soft
It's helpful to use nearly frozen meats they don't gunk up the grinder and allow mixing to be easier

What Do you use when you cant find cranberries??
I always stock up on cranberries in the fall and freeze. There is a cranberry capsule supplement on Dr Judy's website
Along with the written recipe from Suzanne8075, I would also add some oysters without the shell or packed in water no salt. About 5-6 ounces
Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I have 4 Tenterfield Terriers and a Maremma Sheepdog who will love this.

Can salmon be used as the main protein?
Do you always use beef heart/liver or do you rotate sources (lamb, venison, etc).
Thank you for sharing your recipe! Our dog LOVES it!
I would not use salmon long-term as the main protein and yes, you can rotate other species of heart and liver.
Do you consider this recipe to be safe for dogs with CKD? Would you boil any of the meats first to reduce phosphorus?

Spinach isn't just a little higher in oxalate, it's astronomically higher. People on kidney stone prevention diets don't touch it at all.
You also need to use it sparingly because it can cancel out zinc.
May I know what's the sea salt for? Is it okay to skip it?

If protein that you suggest from beef, what amount do I use for the receipe?
Thank you for this recipe... What could we substitute if we can't get chicken gizzards 🙏?
any gizzards or tripe
Thank you Judy can we use the same recipe for 7 year old shihtzu ? He is allergic to red meat. Would you have any recommendations
Can this be done in a slow cooker? What are the list /brand used? Ty
Thank you. It looks yummy. Is this ok to feed to a 4 months small breed puppy and if it is not ok, can you tell me what to make different? Thank you
Hi, is there a list of the products/brands used in the puploaf. I purchased the book ying yang but I don't see this listed. Ty
Ty so much for the work that you are doing... Don't let the haters discourage you on your mission. I can't tell you how much we appreciate you. We're anxiously awaiting the results but understand what you're up against 😊
Can we add probiotic powder ? Thank you so much I want to try this ! ❤
Do you recommend using grass fed beef due to the healthier Omega 3 versus increased Omega 6 in grain fed animals?
Where do you get your snoods please, they look adorable. thanks.

I am so excited to make dog food again. One German Shepard puppy and one Sciternoodle puppy.

Can you provide instructions on how to modify the recipe using an instant pot please? Thank you ❤️❤️
Low heat. Instant pot is too hot it will destroy the enzymes.
Great job Doctor Judy! Thank you so much.
Can this be adapted for cats?
Thank you Dr. Judy! 😊❤
Can a food processor be used instead of meat grinder to start?? Thanks for the helpful content!!
Can we use ground flax seed in place of the flax seed oil? Thank you so much for this!
Hi, what is the deal with dogs teeth? Should we brush? Also, should they have any kind of kibble?
Dear dr.Judy, thank you for your recipe. It’s so grate! I have a question- we should put egg shells from 5 eggs, that’s right? It would be more than 1/2 tsp per pound of meat. Did I understand right? I just start to change my cavalier to the pup loaf and worry about.
Great info, thank you for sharing and George is gorgeous.
I made puploaf on saturday! My Jack likes over ripe bananas so I add a few into the mix.
largest batch yet with 7.5lbs of ground beef worked out to 39 days of food. I picked up a digital meat thermometer and pull it when it hits 145' for medium rare.
As in Jack Russell? Just starting this journey so trying to figure out how much I will need to a 1 year old Rottweiler.
@@Denita_Wishart "Captain Jack Spaniel! a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He's at 20lbs, I guess your' s is a bit larger lol
Dr. Judy, can I replace the ground beef with another kind of beef? For example beef for stew? or chicken breast? Thanks
Can you use venison instead of beef? Thank you 😊
I LOVE my Carnavore. We are on a small farm and it is killer for processing lambs, chickens..etc!@

Thank you very much.
broccoli, asparagus, chard, collards, kale, dandelion, brussels sprouts, spinach. Use frozen veggies if you need to or canned with no salt.
@@judymorgan4241 Great. Trillion thanks.
Excellent clear well explained put together video 🐕 thanks..
Thank you for your quick response
Thank you for sharing the recipe! ❤ I got some questions.
1) I cannot find fresh cranberries in my area. Only dried cranberries which have added apple juice and sunflower oil. Is there any substitute for cranberry?
2) can I use other source of omega 3 such as krill oil?
3) I noticed that you use fresh fish in the video. What type of fish is suitable for the recipe?
Thank you very much for you time! 🙏
I use whole sardines. Blueberries would be a close second for the cranberries. Stock up on them when they are in season. Krill oil is fine.
@@judymorgan4241 thank you!
I use frozen, no additives 😊
That’s amazing thank you so much 😊
Can i use ginger for my cat?!
What do we use in place of chicken gizzards? My dog doesn’t tolerate chicken
Thank you. Trying to figure out how much pup loaf to feed my dogs. Do you have macros or calories in this?
I freeze mine, and then refrig smaller portions. Do you recommend warming the portion each time or serve from the refridge? Thank you.
Always warm the portion you are feeding before giving it to your pet or let it come to room temperature!
Is there a list of what I can replace with in the recipe. Like instead of mussels using kelp. Is there anything else that can replace mussels? What about sardines? What can i replace that with?
