“I don’t want her to be bullied into being digestible.” That was a word for me!
🙌🏾
"Give Black artists room to find themselves in their artistry" YES!!! THIS 1000x 👏 👏 👏 👏
Don’t take this the wrong way but when we always point out the black thing we start sounding like a charity case. She’s an artist before a she’s a black artist. What she brings doesn’t come down to her color.
Sad his opinion is sooo biased.
When he was talking about Normani he said the exact opposite.
Yes, but people aren’t going to keep their opinions to themselves if she keeps posting her lil cam girl videos
That Part!!!!!! 🎯💯
@@alexcastro1793 people aren't gonna keep their opinions to themselves period lol. It doesn't matter what she's doing. As long as she's in the public in anyway. She'll receive criticism and opinions regardless.
The convo on willow was spot on. Blk people have been honestly bullying willow for being herself but will be the ones to say blackness isn’t a monolith. That is one of the issues with how we continue to put black femmes and women in a cage to not explore new sounds in images that they want to create and invest in. We don’t have blk women creators Periodt to explore themselves creatively bc we hold this rusty rubric against them but then want to complain that all blk female singers / rappers/ creators all look the same . No, some of you are walking around with blinders on , so strong that you don’t even know that there are pop blk girls, Elmo blk girls , indie blk girls , edm blk girls, metal blk girls that exist in this present moment.
Willow’s vibe is bomb af!!!
Every black girl doesn’t want to twerk and be half ass naked. They just want to vibe, smoke a joint and say F the world. 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
True true. The community can be the hardest on itself and stifle creativity by calling it weird and too much. Like trapping ppl in a stereotype of their own race.
Ppl even say they want talent and drama then complain when they get it.
Usher-1DK
I have always loved Willow’s music it relaxes me and give me what these other girl can’t. Sometimes I don’t want to listen to sexy sexy, gun, pussy, money etc
Omg who are the metal black girls?? 😍
The crazy thing is, Chloe's "theatrics" are not surprising at all to those of us who knew her back in her and Halle's UA-cam "Best Thing I Never Had" days. Chloe is intense with her delivery, facial expressions, body movements... she always has been! Even Bey evolved over time. She "oversang" her runs a lot back in her early Destiny's Child days but learned restraint and polished her performances over the years. I'd rather someone have uber talent, be able to do it all and learn to practice restraint in the right moments than not be able to give ANYTHING. I think she has a bright future. I agree with Zach wholeheartedly.
this entire comment! yessss 👏🏾 OG CxH fans know, Chloe is theatrical with talent to the T!!
Lol noticed that from their old UA-cam covers, Chloe would be so animated/dramatic, whilst Halle would be there just vibing like 😄
They still have that dynamic now!
Yes Beyoncé used to oversing, like Chloe does sometimes, I think it’s because they get excited and so into it, which really isn’t a bad thing when you think about it. I rather a performer give more, than less
Performers like Normani, Chloe & Beyoncé make you feel the music and I love that about them
THANK YOU!!! Back in the day we let artists like Janet and Madonna reinvent themselves each album. We gave them room to grow and express themselves in different times of their lives. Chloe don't be out here in any mess. She just has, what I feel, is a natural sensuality that makes people uncomfortable. Imagine saying an artist is doing too much, smh. I am too tired of people bullying this young lady. Thank you for speaking on this.
Reinventing is very different. The different eras of an artist should still be true to the brand and identity of an artist. Just like fashion, yes? Designers come out with new collections every season. Fall/Winter 2021 will look different from F/W 2020. The fashion will evolve but there should be commonalities across collections because it follows the brand identity. What Chloe lacks is authenticity.
@@lolitafalana or, that could just be your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. Clearly I'm not alone in the way I feel.
She is also in her early twenties!! You couldnt tell me shit when i was 21. Thats when i started to discover and feeling myself
@@cunni3tv exactly, smh. People act like they never had a fun, free time in their lives, when they were figuring themselves and their sexuality out. Maybe they didn't though, and that's why they are hating so hard on this girl. How is anyone going to tell the person inhabiting their own body that what they are doing is insincere or not organic to who they are?? The amount of sheer audacity it takes to think you know better who a person is than that person is a level I cannot comprehend. The f*cking nerve of these b*tches. I cannot.
@@Jahani31 Oh, okay. It's fine if you're not open to a logical discussion. Considering your language you're more invested than I am.
hot take: i think the girls actually had a pretty great childhood and didn’t have to go through the hyper sexualisation that many young black girls go through. these girls come on the pop/rap scene, oozing sex appeal, and i find it refreshing that she’s a little… awkward in her approach and “doing too much.” we ALL have gone through that phase when finding ourselves, some are just later to it than others. we really should just let breathe, she’ll get there.
The first comment I 100% agree with
Right. Perfectly makes sense 👏🏾👏🏾
This makes perfect sense
she’s grown to be confident with her body and some people hate to see that
They hate confident women and hate when women feel themselves especially black women, they don’t like black women that love themselves and embrace their body and aren’t afraid to show it
Honestly, she’s next to be one of the top entertainers and I rather go to a Chloe concert than a mediocre artist that just stands there. She has the vocals & stage presence. She can definitely put on a show. & she sings live… GET INTO IT !
She lip sings 99% of the live shows
She is an amazing performer though
She does not lip sing in any of her performances. You can tell that when she is performing a song she is singing it live. It is obvious. (For the person above me)
@@TheDYON1234 she does lip some performances but definitely not 99%…
@NeneWinters15 like I said, she does lip some performance but not every performance.
Yall just need to let Chloe live her life. She's grown and she expressing herself. She shouldn't be scared to be herself
Exactly, people say that women should Express themselves and then when women do Express themselves people get so upset. She's young and she's still exploring and people should just let her live her life.
@@nyasiah1311 At this point people choosing what they like cause let's say DaBaby posts a photo in just boxers and they say he "fine" and he "daddy or goals" but when a woman does it she's thirsty for attention the double standard is ridiculous
@@OfficiallyChloe I completely agree. Double standards are extremely high in the black community specifically when it comes to men and women.
@@OfficiallyChloe exactly
And that’s why artists like Normani is struggling to connect with her audience. People keep saying “she needs to show more of herself and personality” to just face scrutiny if she does open up. Chloe gives me free spirit vibes and I don’t think she needs to change a thing to make others feel comfortable. If she’s too much for you, then don’t give her your attention.
Before I even finish this video, I just wanted to say that I fully agree that Chloe does not do too much, I think that Chloe does what the other girls can’t, performances and music is 100% and choreo, live vocals, and energy, Chloe is a show stopping performer and she gives me everything I need and probably the most out of all the females I like in the industry.
Bingo, thats it right there....
Besides Beyoncé 📌
@@michaelsliders3421 I’m sure they were referring to the new girls. Beyoncé is not a peer of Chloe’s she’s her mentor also she’s been in the game for 2 and half decades she’s in the legendary lane & Chloe is still finding her footing as an artist but out of all the new girls she’s the most talented when it comes to vocals & stage presence even writing & producing most of these girls don’t have 1/5th of the talent she has that’s in the industry right now.. The masses apparently love mediocrity 🙄
@@jylfyl4093 we know
And she’s the most consistent in regards to her social media presence. There’s always a conversation going on about her, whether it’s her pics, covers, etc
Making this a black women thing is kinda weird, there are enough Black women in music who are sexual/sexy.
I think the main problem with Chloe is that its just not natural, so it comes off very cringey.
She just needs time to master the art of being sexy without trying. Like Rihanna is SUPER sexual but it does not come off cringey or too much because her energy matches it and she does it so effortlessly.
.
“We don’t let black women discover themselves.” Hit the nail right on the head. Be yourself no matter what, even if that looks differently every day. You don’t have to only be or do one thing as a form of expression. If people can’t take it that’s their problem.
Doing a satanic ritual for entertainment isn't it sis
I hope she names her album “doing too much” just to piss these folk off. She living her life, having fun, and nobody is getting hurt. I just want the album.
She’s literally in her early twenties. She’s finding/figuring herself out. She really isn’t doing anything outrageous; some of the other artists we stan for do worse in comparison, so…🤷🏽♂️
That would be tacky
Yes please!!
That’s a good album name, I hope she does
We are so used to vibes and nothing else that anything else seems too extra. Years from now, we gonna look back like damn Chlöe was one of the few artists of this decade that actual gave us entertaining performances, good music, and was actually fucking talented. Hell, watch how when her album drops they’ll switch up.
Yessss truth
I just think Chloe is very theatric and expressive and people just need to accept it. Plus she’s young snd still finding herself as a woman. She’ll refine as she gets older. But the talent is there so the girls need to let off.
it sucks that the general public and the industry in general likes to only categorize black artists ONLY to r&b and rap music. like SIS WE MADE MOST OF THE GENRES THAT EXIST TODAY!!
I agree. We created rock and country music so I didn't understand why people was attacking Willow in the first place.
That part! Pretty much all music is black music
NO SUCH THING WHEN YOUR AS TALENTED AS CHLÖE!! I WILL STAN FOREVER!
SAME AND I STAN FOREVER
They clearly haven’t followed Chloe when she and her sister were doing covers.
@@henrykyem clearly haven’t , she been this way and I love it
Shhhhhhhhh
The only time she was “doing too much” was when she posted that lollipop video, which she immediately deleted right after. Other than that, I think the girl is SOLID! Chloe is gorgeous and talented. The whole “she’s doing too much” narrative is getting old. It’s starting to feel like a lot of people, mainly women, are imposing their own insecurities on to Chloe. She’s doing too much in your eyes cuz you feel as tho you can’t do what she’s doing and to be quite Frank that’s a personal problem. Chloe is not here to make US feel comfortable. She’s following her dreams and doing what SHE feel is right for her. On top of that she’s still coming into her own. We all have been there so let’s not act Holier than thou. We do not have the right to dictate what she wears, how she sings, how she performs, and what she decides to post on social media. Now can we give our opinion and constructive criticism? Of course, but that’s it. It’s her choice to accept it or say “fuck y’all imma do whatever I want!” If you’re not feeling what she does, just simply say she’s not your cup of tea and keep it pushing. Going as far as coming for her character and picking her apart ain’t it. A lot of people just have too much time on their hands nowadays. I miss the days where these celebrities weren’t so accessible to us and we had no choice but to focus on the music instead of their personal lives 🙄
Exactly, 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
Thank you !!! Every little thing she does now it's considered"doing too much " she could find a cute swim suit and bitches will be like "she's showing too much she's being way to sexual with that outfit " 🙄🙄🙄 but yet they be gassing these IG thots up in the comments 😐
Chloe is a star. She has the natural vocal talent, outgoing performing ability, calculated creative choices and is beautiful. She’s effortlessly the full package and I have faith in parkwood she is being guided by the right voices. LOVE HER!!!
She can definitely be sexual!! I think sometimes it just doesn’t come off natural & that’s where people are confused. It sometimes seems forced instead of her just naturally being sexy (which she is). The video about the followers, her licking the mic during vmas, to her doing the cover just didn’t seem natural. And her posts have been a little cocky at times. Idk I think she’ll do great things no matter what tho.
I think people feel like her “sexy” is forced and unauthentic. It doesn’t come across as natural and I think it bothers people because the sexy image is always attached to black women. I think she is talented and I hope she focuses on that more. Her interested videos and pics get more shine than her music.
Who cares if she wants to then she should! She's grown let her live n u do the same
@@okydokes People do let her live. However, the public has the right to not follow or like what she does. They're consumers and she is the product. The feedback won't always be positive.
I agree. It feels like this isn’t her lane. Like it just don’t fit🤔
@@laviki5190 seems like you're uncomfortable 😣
@@CKFIERCE1 Not at all. She just coming off lame🤷🏽♀️I want her to win and obviously this ain’t it. People embrace sexy when it’s authentic. Rihanna…Jhene Aiko…Snoh Aalegra…hell even Monica was authentically sexy. This ain’t it.
Maybe part of the frustration is that just about every female artist has to have “sexiness” as part of her growth spurt in the industry. I know personally, I’m tired of that narrative. Why does entertainment value HAVE to be about sex and skin and reveals? The over-the-top sexiness distracts me from her talent. It feels forced and inauthentic. And Zach does make a good point about extending some grace here and letting her grow. I want Chloe to win. But when her single dropped and I saw the video, I was disappointed. Yeah, the song slaps. But the hyper sexual message is played out. It’s fitting a tired mold. I would love to see a female artist grow in her talents and evolve her image if she genuinely wants to (aka, not as a result of insecurity and industry pressure) but without having the titties popping every which way and the cooter sliding out of the leotard. Just dance and sing without every body part hanging out for the sake of shock value. Sexuality should not be a requirement to be sickening.
💯💯💯👌🏽👏🏽
I also think it’s forced on black female artists in their 20s a lot. The predatory males write this music and style the clothes and shoot the music video. It may seem like their choice but is it? Is it really their choice if they all do the same trends and can’t deviate? The same producers and pervy men saddle up to them too.
All I’m saying is, we need to go deeper with this topic. Bc Chloe needs a real support system of people who will tell her the truth: READ THE ROOM. BW are tired of seeing themselves pimped out by the industry and then tossed aside
@@ninagrace-lee8323 yes!!! “Read the room” is exactly what I said when I watched this. If all your fans are complaining then something is wrong ma’am and you need to listen!!!
I share everyone's sentiments from this thread.
Y'all help me come to the reason why I felt underwhelmed and disappointed by the performances from the 2021's MTV VMAS.
I watched that program in its entirety. I watched different variety of performances from Kacey Musgraves, Olivia Rodrigo, Camila Cabello... And then there was Normani's and Chloe's performances... 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
I know there are folks that love bringing up Janet and Beyonce. But they fail to acknowlege the fact that both artists didn't jump out the gate showcasing that brand of sexuality. For Janet, it was her 1993 self-titled album, which was her 5th studio album and 11 years into her music career. Then there's Beyonce. It was really her self-titled album from 2013, which happened 15 years after her debut, that she became more blunt with her sexual and sensual showcases.
For me, I am just tired of this being the ONLY prototype for female, black entertainers to follow, in order to obtain mainstream success.
Agreed on all counts for the comments above. As a white woman, I know I have limited capacity to understand the nuances of being black in America. My boyfriend and I talk about this topic a lot (he is Haitian). It’s definitely sad to see how much the industry is churning out young black women as objects of sexuality and they don’t allow them to show their depth beyond that. The control that the music industry has over an artist’s image (not to mention income/percentage per stream, etc) is astounding.
“Read the room” is right! Chloe is seducing people through the camera and when I watch her videos I’m like…I didn’t ask for this come on 😂 buy me dinner first. I do feel for her, though. I just wish she would stop acting like this is her authentic desire when the change into some kind of forced vixen has been abrupt and uncomfortable to watch.
You took the words right outta my mouth, we are too mediocre.

I’m with you Zach. I have a soft spot for Chloe too. Not just because we share a name (my middle name is Chloe), and we’re both Cancers lol, but growing up as a dancer my own dance teacher told me that I dance too big. And I was 1 out of three black girls in my dance troop. And outside of that, I’ve been told not to do too much with what wear. I was a shy kid with low self esteem who found herself, after college. And I embrace all that I am, whether I naturally give off being sexy or flirty (which I’ve been told before but didn’t see it) when I’m just being myself, or whether I still do too much when I dance. I no longer care. And neither should she. We are who we are and if you can’t handle it you can leave.
I feel you, I’m on same page but opposite. I always looked bored without meaning to and everyone tried to bully me to smile, look more excited, I was called snobbish when I’m just quiet etc but it was my eyes, imagine a black girl with Chinese type eyes. I didn’t even know what I was doing wrong. I’m grown now I realize people keep coming up with this singularity of expression that just isn’t realistic. There’s no one way to be…to thrive and we need to allow people be what they are.
Cancer women are naturally very sensual, it’s just what it is. Never be ashamed my love, it’s the other side of the nurturer aspect. You can give love naturally so you exude sensuality and availability. It’s a wonderful gift and can lead to sometimes “doing too much” but naturally as the nurturer you are, why would you ever want to give less than all you’ve got?
@@AlexciaWHY Agreed! 🙌🏾

Thank you so much Zach.
The same people who say she does too much ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT NEWER ARTIST NOT DON'T ENOUGH OR ANYTHING AT ALL. I know that we watched her and her sister grow from childhood to adulthood so it's weird watching them b grown but make no mistakes about it. THEY ARE GROWN, GORGEOUS AND TALENTED
Exactly
Before I even finish the video, I’m so glad you brought up Willow! I have her on repeat and she brings me that 2000’s pop/punk nostalgia that I’ve been craving. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that Willow was criticized at first for the genre of music she was “messing around with”, but she didn’t want to be an R&B singer and that’s ok. Rico Nasty is another great artist with different music and aesthetic that people tend to sleep on because they want to put her in a box. I really loved the iPhone video (it scratches a part of my brain I didn’t know needed scratching 😭). But I agree with you wholeheartedly that Chloe is setting the bar for these other girls because she IS talented, she IS that girl. We just have to give her time to pave her own lane because people love to compare her to Beyoncé (which makes sense, she is her mentor) but Chloe is her own person, a separate artist. Love the video, as always! 💕🌸

Dawn Richard from Danity Kane has spoken on black women in boxes her entire career - because you’re black, you have to do “this” type of music or you’re making “white people music”. She’s been breaking barriers for black women in an Indie space for years and her movement speaks to a lot of what you said in the first part of this call. I recommend everyone who isn’t hip to look her up. She’s dope.
Omg yes I agree 👍🏾💯, thank you for posting about Dawn, I've seen her videos she's amazing, she deserves a space on the main stage, she's professional, unique, artistic, sounds great vocally, and she never seems forced to too much. I sometimes feel like those who deserve a place in our musical spaces don't recieve it. That's really not fair. Variety is gone everyone is kinda the same now.
Funny how they said thee Beyoncé did ‘too much’ in the early/mid 00’s, and yet look at her now… 👑

Zach.. I have to disagree with you here. I think the “doing too much” is what triggered you. I think people are seeing Chloe‘s over-sexualization as inauthentic and calling it “doing too much”. I’m here for finding oneself, organically. But it doesn’t seem genuine with Chloe. Ex the lollipop video. It was quite unnecessary to say the least.. Now with that being said I don’t think she should get “bullied” but I see this more as feedback. Perhaps it’s the wording “doing too much” that’s the problem. Because I don’t want her to dim her light, but rather shine in authenticity ✨
Boom
Blackness is not a monolith. We can be the most vicious to our own kinfolk. I think people should let her grow and give her grace as an artist and a person.
I just can't agree with this perspective. I had to stop mid-way to reply. The spotlight and platforms of this magnitude are not for anyone to start "discovering themselves." Fame is not for the insecure or unassured. Branding is so, so important as an artist and no one wants to invest their time or money in someone who doesn't know what or how to deliver. People see through BS and facades and Chloe is just not comfortable, much less natural at being sexy. Not in this way at least. She (and/or her team) so desperately wants to be a vixen and a sex symbol but what she does is making her audience uncomfortable. There are so many varieties of sexy personalities but she/they are fixated on the vixen/bombshell/unattainable hot girl and we don't see it. She needs to come to terms with the energy/persona she naturally has and magnify it. Christina Milian is bubbly, cutesy, innocent girl next door but still alluring. Megan Fox is very dark, somewhat masculine, cerebral, mean/b!tchy... You feel like she's going to eff you up but you'd love every second of it. Megan Good is a slightly different type of seductive, but there's some overlap in my mind. Mariah is very elegant and understated but youthful and girly. Chloe, if anything, is more like Christina Milian.
Maybe we need to survey the ages of those who don't like what Chloe's giving because I'm 29 and I can tell you I definitely don't feel this way because of who's popular in the industry today. Chloe doesn't have IT and won't convince me until she brands herself better.
Also, I want to add that we're in an era where media, especially video is consumed very, very quickly and in small amounts. Artists and the industry at large are focused on creating moments for reshare on social media. Chloe writhing on the floor, licking lollipops and microphones, bending over in front of the camera and whatever else isn't because she was just feeling sexy. That's to keep people talking and sharing. It's too obviously calculated, too unnatural and I'm uncomfortable lol. You can go far doing less. We don't have to think in extremes. Less doesn't mean nothing. Just. Less. Be naked if you want to, but make it make sense. Provocative for one doesn't have to compete with or look the same as what's provocative for someone else.
Chloe isnt making music for ppl in their late twenties to thirties. Yall are not her target audience. Also, has Zach stated, let black artist be able to find themselves. In that process of finding yourself, there’re things that will come off cringy and what not. That’s part of the whole process.
@Lakacia Lloyd I 100% agree she may have it, just not in the way she's packaged it and maybe not in all the ways she wants to be. She can have IT in terms of vocals (I'm kind of indifferent there), but she does not have IT in terms of performance and dance, and that's where I believe most people have a problem. That's not her strong suit and to be honest, I think she's trying to establish herself in too many ways too soon (acting, singing, dancing, producing...). I think her look and voice are marketable but the performances and social media antics detract.
Branding is hugely important in the industry!
@@ladybccesar7582 Your not-so-subtle attempt at being ageist does not escape me lol. She may not be making music "for me," but who do you think the tastemakers of the industry are? How old are the creative executives running the industry, making deals, cutting, producing and writing records? Deciding who has mass appeal? Zach's opinion is not end all be all. Be open to opposition.
Getting stage time at award shows is earned. All you fighting to let Chloe "find" and "discover herself" on a big platform baffles me because THAT is the definition of accepting mediocrity. If someone told you to grow with your significant other as opposed to finding someone established would you have the same argument? Chloe needs to find herself on a mall stage and at small club venues, not on national and global platforms. That mindset will take any performer or industry to the gutter.
Editing to tie this in a nice bow: If this is who Chloe is or wants to be, she needs to practice more in smaller venues and behind the scenes.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I’m a stan of Chloe and I’ll admit sometimes it feels forced and I don’t want people too look at her as a sex symbol. I just want her to be her authentic self
But what if that's what she wants to be? 🤷♀️I think people oversexualize her in general because she is extremely attractive but people don't like it when she acknowledges and amplifies it and says yes I am sexy and I will dress to accentuate my body, not to to mention she's only 23, grown but young, this is the perfect time to explore what she really wants her image to be.
@@Thisiskoko104 Then she's following everything and everyone by becoming a sex symbol.
Finally someone said it.
@@Thisiskoko104 If that's what she wants to do, then she needs to figure out a way to let the authenticity of that choice show through.
In communication (which is in the case of musical artists, visual and sonic), the blame for any errors that occur mostly lie with the sender, rather than the receiver. As the senders, it is our responsibility to make sure that the receivers understand the message as it is meant to, and to communicate it in an effective manner for the intended target.
Chloe is failing to communicate effectively.
@@marciasilva549 chloe is doing great, nobody told trey songz " you do too much" the double standard makes me want to barf.
I've always found Chloe to be a bit cringy and not super "natural" but it just came off to me as a young woman who is trying to find herself and trying to find what her true expression is, so I completely agree with you on that. I also think that the vitriol she is receiving is extremely vicious and not proportionate to the issue AT ALL. Beyoncé was also said to do too much when she first started and she got a ton of hate too, but then eventually she grew into the image she has today. The same will happen with Chloe. She's going to find her place eventually and I agree just let her grow.
But let me also say this. A lot of people feel like Chloe is cringe and it is frustrating when we get told that we are SUPPOSED to stan her just because she is talented. And listen, a lot of people online need to be told to calm down on the hate because it's insane. But for others, they're going to have a different opinion and that's ok. For example, I stopped following her on social media awhile ago because I don't particularly care of her social media presence but I love her music, I love her voice! I think she is super talented, and that's ok! I don't particularly care of her live performances right now but that's ok too! What's wrong is when we go out of our way to hate on her. But I don't think it's wrong for people to think she is cringe if that's how they definitely feel. We don't all have to like the same artists or the same things. It's what we do with it that's the issue.
Agreed. We talk about how sexual & what provocative things she does in a performance instead of how great of a performance she put. I just want her to be more known for her actual talent instead her body. Im rooting for her and love her but she needs to figure it out behind close doors then
thank you for this comment, because i feel like people will blindly be like, “yasss go off” and anything that’s not blind support is attacked. she DOES do too much, she forces a sexual allure in some performances that *takes away* from her performances. she *is* cringy at times, let’s call a spade a spade. that being said i do think she is a great performer. but for the people who act like they wouldn’t be saying the same thing i’d that were their friend, sister or daughter STOPPIT. y’all acting delusional.
Perfectly said
Exactly 👏
Exactly!
As a black independent artist I feel like no matter what genre I put out it'll be classed as rnb or soul lmao
I have been a fan of ChloeXHalle since the beginning, and I have to say I kind of agree that she has done a little too much. And don’t mistake this for hate because I love her and Halle so so much and will always support them. I’m so used to both Chloe and Halle being more focused on the music rather than trying to be the girls who are all about being sexual. I don’t see a problem in her exploring who she is, but I do see a problem in being overly sexual. I just don’t want her music to be overshadowed by some of the things she’s doing. She has so much to say, and I don’t want her to fall into the same category as a lot of women right now who are only sex based. (Again this is just my opinion as a fan of both her and Halle since the beginning. I will always love and support them!)
I think her performances are great and really showcase her talent without coming off as “too much” but when it comes to her random tik tok videos….. that’s when she starts doing too much and acting overly sexual which just comes off as cringy.
Once upon a time I remember the gworls saying the lead singer of destiny's child was doing too much. Too much attitude, too much ass, and too much vocal acrobatics, and now look at where we are. If you arent noticing Chloe's amazing vocals FIRST, thats on you
I honestly don’t see anything wrong with her. We’re so use to people being generic and manufactured to the point when someone is just doing them or being them they come off as either forced, cringy, or that they are trying to play a role. People don’t understand that everyone doesn’t need to play the role you want them to play. Let people live and stop projecting your sad moments or insecurities on them.
The problem Chloe's audience is having with her is about her coming off inauthentic. Yes she can sing and she's a pretty woman however she is literally blending in the background with all of the other females artists who are "expressing their sexuality". Chloe's sexual "expression" comes off like a gimmick and she posts these things out of her own free will so she needd to accept that most people aren't here for it. Why does it have to be people hating because they are being honest about what they're looking at?? Why does it have to be about being black?? Why can't she just give us the album that we want and sell the music sell her talent and stop giving us Instagram thrist trap clips. Everything in life is about balance and Chloe is putting more energy into "being sexy" than putting out some quality music. I am grown and this I what I have observed from what she has put out there. Until then hopefully she puts giving us a number one album as a priority. People want to see what she is made of musically as a solo artist not just doing corny "sexy" covers licking lollipops.
I totally see where you are coming from as well and I felt the exact same way at first. I think people see her as someone who changed quickly and we are used to her having a certain way about her but she wasn't alone. I could tell when they were going to separate before it happened because she was expressing herself differently than he sister. I don't personally think it is a gimmick, I think she is trying to find herself and it is coming off really strong.
I agree that people have their opinions but we are in a time where people are pushing their opinions hard because of the internet and have others join them and it does turn into a bully mentality. People don't just say " hey you did this a bit too strong" they are much more rude about it and I think that is what he was trying to say. And as for being black, it is a stereotype of black women who perform, and many people are coming for her for it...which is also what he means.
I agree with you, I feel she could sell her music without as much sexuality. Kind of like India Arie...but I feel who am I to dictate how she wants to sell her music and self.
But you too made valid points
Hit it right on the head 100%
Chloe does too much. This is not even a black woman thing or whatever narrative we are trying to create around her criticism
Your unshaved and unwashed balls do too much but thats your business, maybe mind THAT as well

i’ve just hit the 3:56 mark and my WORRD “do pop, but do it in a black way”. as an artist, this has been my DILEMMA: do i do what feels like “me” or try to gain success doing what is still considered “me”, but maybe a more watered down, easy to sell
version. call it selling out, call it being cowardly, call it what you want, but being yourself as an artist is HARD regardless of what level you’re at and this situation with chloe tells me to just be yourself and do you; people, even the FANS, will hate on you regardless of how talented you are
This is so true. Song writing is one hell of a process when you feel like every song has to be the last but different digestible for every or most people but still authentic to you.
THE GIRLS CAN’T TAKE. the talent is undeniable so they wanna find the only thing they can critique. let the girl embrace where she currently is in her womanhood. she’s young. women are intricate beings. and growth takes time! who you are at 23 is SO much different then who you are by 25. she has so much time to figure herself out. it doesn’t take away from her talent, period.
AMAZINGLY SAID
I got my life when you said “ black people have gotten used to seeing black peoples only do r&b and hip hop and if you do pop do it in a black way and then said “ oh y’all not ready to talk about that” my soul said thank you so much for bringing that up
I STAN Chloe, I havent been this excited for some new in a looong time. Shes giving me EXACTLY what I need. Its about time someone will show todays singers HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE. 💃🏽
Haven’t even watched it yet , but I’m interested. 👀
I agree as a fan of Ari , Willow and Chloe, I think people don’t like change or something different. I do however think that sometimes what Chloe does can be cringey. She gives sex appeal naturally so she does not have to be extra but she is farrrr from mediocre. Loved this commentary.
Chloë is dramatic and i will be handing over my hard earned money to watch more when she is on tour. I want to see and feel her vision! Its great production and entertainment online so i know it will translate in person. Her brand is being extra and i am enjoying her
I will give my opinion before I watch the video. I don’t think Chloe necessarily does too much. I do feel like sometimes she forces the sex appeal. The lollipop video was unnecessary. She’s young though so I don’t think people should be constantly criticizing her through her journey. I think most of us went through a phase where we wanted people to know we’re grown. She’s always been “extra” though in terms of performing. In my opinion there’s nothing wrong with that. I love to see her hunger and drive. However I am a little worried that she will become a mediocre artist and write a bunch of songs about her body. I love the body positivity but I want her to make solo songs about other things she has experienced and tell us some stories through her music. Regardless I love Chloe.
That's what people are complaining about, you just used different words.
@@bohlalenchabeleng1370 I’m assuming you missed the part where I said I was commenting before I watched the video.
Chloé seems like the person that gets lost in her performance and THAT’S how you know if someone really appreciates their craft; that they are really in tuned with their gift! With dancers, musicians, singers, etc. when they are doing their passion they don’t notice or even care about how “extra” they are because they’re too busy executing their God given talent. People need to understand that EVERYONE has freedom of speech but EVERYTHING doesn’t need a comment; if you don’t like her discuss it with yourself mentally and move on. There’s no need to let the world know why you don’t🤷🏾♀️
You’re making too much sense Ms. P. Idk what validation they’re looking for by discussing how much they don’t like her lol and swear they’re not haters.
Sometimes she does a little too much when she’s trying to sexy and it can definitely be a little unflattering. But that does not take away from how talented and powerful she is as a upcoming solo artist. I cannot wait to see where she is when she gets comfortable with herself and what she does. ✨
This why I like about kpop. Like there is good and bad but at least the artists give us actual new things and concepts. Production and coreography and vocals. Not much mediocre stuff . But Chloe and her sister and many other black female artists are diffrent and have a beautiful voices and artist potential. Let them do it. Society wants us to be so desirable and talented yet don't want us to express it. Like damn. I'm tired of ppl always trying to criticize everything we do.
I think this is another reason why K-Pop has bloomed in America. Most of the idol music is designed with minors in mind. So the lyrical content isn't raunchy. The costumes and choreography isn't raunchy.
American parents are fine with it.
Unfortunately, in the black music industry in America, there aren't groups that are aimed towards teens and preteens at the moment. The meager ones that were there (for instance, the O.M.G. Girls, 3rd Storee,) aren't functioning right now.
I really hate when people say she does too much, specifically the black community, because it's like when the other girls do it then it's fine. But when Chloe does it, oh she's doing too much or she's cringy or she's attention seeking. It's either they're not used to it, they're used to seeing her as the "Disney" girl or the "good girl", or the black community has this definition or standard of what is "sexy" or what artists need to do to fit in and when she doesn't fit or conform to THEIR standards, then they tear her down. And I hate that. Especially when you brought up Willow. Because when she was this 10 year old with half of her hair shaved and singing about whipping her hair, everybody thought she was weird. But now that she's found this rock/alternative pocket to be in, oh she's cool and iconic and that girl. I just had the hypocrisy of it all especially from the black community because it's #weneedmoreblackartists but when we have artists outside of rap, hip-hop, r&b, and even pop, suddenly they're "trying to be white" or "doing too much" or " being weird". It's so irritating and I'm glad you actually took the time to talk about it because it's a major conversation that needs to be had within the black community especially.
(so sorry for the long rant but as someone who go ridiculed and talked about and labeled as "weird" because I did things that wasn't normal to everyone else, it's such an infuriating topic tbh)
i LOVE chloe, she is not enough!! i want more from her, i live for every performance! I appreciate your voice and love for her!!
I’m glad to see Chloe coming out the gate “doing too much” because that means she has so much to work with and has the luxury to reign it in. And with the added pressure of social media presence, I think she’s doing a good job. I can’t lie I do cringe when she takes it too far but that’s just what happens when you’re rooting for someone as they grow. And yeah let’s see some of y’all do this shit
If people think Chloe is doing too much, those same people clearly aren’t doing enough in their own life. Let her grow as an artist and a person. Everyone deserves their self discovery journey.
Dawn Richard is another artist who is didn't follow the norm and doesn't get the recognition she deserves but her music and artistry is amazing.
It's ok to not "stan" her. To not care for her voice, music, image etc. I never got into her and her sister. The Have Mercy song is a cute bop. That's it! 🤷 It's NOT ok to attack her though. Let her live! If you don't like someone or something, unless it's causing you harm, just keep it moving. I do it all the time.
**side note** some people, especially parents, have an issue with her, what they consider an overly sexualized image. That's a tale as old as time, and one that won't be going away, probably ever. Can't tell people how to feel, but we can politely suggest they express their feelings in non hateful and hurtful ways.
Chloe can definitely do what she wants to do, but she and everyone needs to realize that every opinion is not going to be in her favor. I think that she is incredibly talented and stunning, but I think she is doing a lot in some cases. This may be a way she expresses herself, but it can be cringey to me. I know she shared that she’s trying to find herself, I get it but to some it can still be cringey to some. Thats okay too
I agree. I’m gonna support her 100% but some things r like “😬???” To me u know?
Thank you for saying this.
I understand defending Chloe and I even agree that the public goes overboard sometimes, but those reactions are just as valid as her progression and development.
I absolutely love Chloe, but can also say that some things she does is cringy and over the top in a bad way. I'm not going to stop supporting her but I don't have to applaud everything she does and be a yes man.
I understand if people think it's cringey, but at some point people need to realize that the critisizm isnt constructive and it feels like she is being bullied by the internet. She is a real person who sees everything ya'll post online. How many times do ya'll have to tell her she makes you uncomfortable? Let's try to be more positive and when we are being critical do it in a constructive way. I don't always agree with the things many artists do, but you will NEVER find me leaving a negative comment about them online because I always think what if they see it. Especially if you are one of many people repeating the same negative thing. We need to be kinder to people on the internet.
@@sola2351 This is an issue that is particularly bad for artists, which is the consumer/supplier relationship.
With most other areas they are selling A product but with artists, they themselves are THE product and therefore, the subject of reviews, good or bad.
The internet is the consumer's voice amplified and unfortunately, it can be overwhelmingly negative. Not only because of people's predilections to tear each other down, but because it also gathers likeminded individuals that wouldn't otherwise find a way to converge.
That to say, it's the court of public opinion and since the beginning of time, it's always been brutal. Back then, physically brutal even. That's essentially what "cancel culture" is.
People don't realise how much power they have on their hands as consumers and the times they do, they use it with petty things.
When people are ready to digest her doing “too much” they definitely will be eating it all up. Chloe is that girl because she’s fearless and everybody is scared. Also I agree, I don’t want her to be bullied into being digestible. She is stepping on everybody’s neck as she should.
The people who are her consumers are the ones who feel cringey and uncomfortable.
I love me some Chloe. We have entered a point where people will nitpick others from insecurity and jealousy. Let her find her "Nitch". And you are so on point with the mediocrity. I want to see Chloe prosper and do so much more. I havent been so excited about any new female artist in a while
All of it is cringey to me. There are enough girls selling sex just for the hell of it and she is above that. Her gift is above that. If she chooses to be sexual that's fine. She's grown. But the vibe of what she's done in the past is "I'm doing this because I feel like I have to in order to get the attention these others get, not because I'm actually expressing my sensual side for myself as a part of my art." And I don't like that. She is so gifted and talented. I don't want her jumping on the raunchy, weird, "sex sells" bs just to get people talking. She has shown in her performances that she's got what it takes to put on a show and I do appreciate and admire her drive. She'll figure the rest out as she grows.
I wish Chloe was more naturally herself, and worked on what needs to be cleaned up and tailored!!! She has so much potential, and I hope she grows into that potential. And loves herself through it.
Finally!!!! I need her to do more. Everytime she performs it is amazing and I'm not bored.
Chloe is doing what she does best which is living in her truth. We as black people need to stop telling one another that we are too confident or doing too much and learn how to express ourselves in our own way. Chloe finally got her freedom so let her live, she’s happy, making her coin and living her beautiful life.
Chloe is doing what every artist should do, be exciting and have personality. She has a lot of it. Have Mercy is fun. Everything she has done so far has been entertaining. She’s doing great right now and I know she will continue to be great. Chloe is awesome and her sister, Halle is awesome as well. They are changing the game!
I was having a sad moment about other things and you always help lift my spirits/ forget my troubles :) thank you
My thing is... nowadays it seems like the artist development is being done in real time through public opinions. 🤷🏾♀️
And yes she does do too much at times. When she gets the criticism it'll teach her her limits with the public. She can either keep doing or tone it down. That simple.
She clearly won't tone it down, she's repeating the same pattern (oversexualizing, gets attention, public criticism, cry about it and repeat the cycle).
I enjoy seeing her grow it’s inspiring, “control your fire, don’t tame your fire!!!” I love that
Fans have a right to have an opinion on an artist , Chloe and her die hard fans must understand not every opinion is gonna be in favour of her so she must just do what makes her happy coz you can’t please everyone 🤷🏽♀️
honestly the last words that you said , speak to me , since im making my music , and sometimes feeling like eveybody has to like it , but im kinda throwing that thought to the back of the car right now , and if i making something great but i dont feel like myself , whats the point ... so thank you for thisss ¡¡
AYYYEEEE👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Zach coming through with another upload.
Hey Zach! I love you channel! Makes me smile everything time! Oh, and I definitely love Chloe!
One thing I wish Chloe did was stood behind what she posts. Ppl will always have something to say about what you do but when you own it there's nothing more ppl can say. Staying true to yourself gains respect when the opinions of others don't move you.🙌🏿
I’m sorry but the lollipop clip took me out lol😂😂😂
honest opinion on chloe: she definitely does too much (sometimes). it clearly bothers her when ppl say she has forced sex appeal which is probably why she’s trying SO hard to prove everyone otherwise. it’s forced and awkward and the reason i feel like it’s not authentic is bc it seems like she seeks assurance from her fans when ppl start criticising her ie. crying on live/sharing zachs video on her story. the more we coddle our favs, the less they grow as artist. perfect example of that is normani and doja cat.
Your last sentence does not make sense as Normani and Doja are not coddled at all. Defending and coddling are two different things. Kinda invalid to even mention that.
@@rayshawnphoenix2135 normani is coddled heavily by the “dont criticise her, even though she needs it” stans and now she’s sitting comfortable in 0 albums. doja has done so much dumb shit in the past and is constantly ridiculed in the media but her work ethic and carefree attitude pushed her to be an amazing entertainer
@@yasmin4281 but that has NOTHING to do with them “growing in their artistry” did you even proofread what you wrote? It’s no secret Normani is having difficulty behind the scenes to her delays but the music & performances are still A+ and as for Doja she’s only getting better and bigger musically literally breaking records every other week. Again this was a pointless correlation.

I understand artists grow up, I just wish she didn’t feel the need to find herself through the light of social media, even though I get why. Personally, I just stopped following her social media but I’m still a lover of the art of her music 💕
You hit the nail on the head as always with “Mediocre” talent. Remember to the world we believe Beyoncé is the bar of standard for entertainment and the epidemic identified the fact that not only are we going through a recession economically but we are going through a withdrawal from Real tangible talent. We are emotional starving and we don’t have time for the raw evolution or the process because that would mean some of us would have to entertain and figure things out ourselves and we all can’t stand that feeling called “feelings”.
People said the same about Beyonce. She over singing the songs, trying to out-do everybody, and too sexual. Chloe is showing these other girls that they are not doing enough.
This was a really inspiring video for me as an artist and creative, thank you Zach because this is exactly what I needed right about now.
She is sooo talented!!! I am all for expressing yourself, being a creative myself. I just hope that she is not being required to “stripperize” her performance by the powers that be. Being an older woman, I feel like there is this thing where young women have been led to believe that there is only this way to be sexy...sooo everybody dresses like and dances like they all took classes at the player’s club. I think the disconnect comes from her and her sister were girls when they came out literally..so people have a hard time seeing her as a sexual grownass woman. I totally agree with your commentary on that aspect. Another thing is Chloe has this regal aura about her so people probably are thinking she’s better than that..but there is a place and time for everything under the sun..Honestly what it boils down to is... if what she is doing is not your cup of tea then turn the channel. But how dare people tell this woman how to express herself.. It’s the audacity and unmitigated gall for me..Somebody mention a burlesque vibe to her performance ..I’m here for it!! What I really want young girls know that they are more than their body parts and you don’t have to do anything strange for some change unless you want to. All love 💕
People were probably saying that Beyonce was "doing too much" when she first went solo from DC. Now look. She is the Queen! Love this vid and thank you for calling out the BS.
Chloe is a diva…we don’t have anymore divas in the industry anymore. This generation isn’t use to it.
Have to disagree overall. Chloe and Halle have gotten an extreme amount of support. HELLA opportunities without the sales or demand to match thanks to Queen Bey. People root for them blindly. So if something is off, that needs to be addressed and it’s okay to. I’ve been following them since their UA-cam cover days. Chloe has been hitting the cringe button with no stop. C’mon Zach, that lollipop video was just, whyyy lol. Talent and “it factor” are two different things, and as an Artist yourself you know this Zach. Some people got “it” and some don’t. If talent should equate to appeal, every talented person would make it. Doing too much simply means you look forced, unnatural, unrelaxed..etc allat. Humans are creatures that “feel” before we can understand what we’re feeling. I believe people are feeling somethings just not sitting right and that’s okay. We do not have to blindly Stan Chloe. Now all that bullying, yeah that needs to stop.
I guess I just don't see what some others do. Chloe seems very much in her element on stage, singing, dancing and all of that. To me and many others she is naturally sexy. Nothing seems forced to me. I will admit that the sucker video was cringe, but that was the only thing.
damn I wish you felt that way about Mani b/c you give her no room for mistakes. I guess the light brights hit the mark for you the give them them room to grow and develop.
You literally can’t compare them. Doing so is foolish. Just say your butthurt and go.
Chloe is still so young like how many of us can account for tapping into our sexuality in our early twenties and living in it? It’s worse when it’s a black woman because they’er hypersexualized in their adolescence as well. Like everyone thinks they have ownership over black women and girls sexuality except them. LET HER LIVE👏🏾
Said it before and will say it again. Her and Halle oozed sensuality in the ungodly hour era. For the music video, she gave off sexy, sultry vibes. But for her SOLO endeavours, it’s very much giving forced sexuality. Whether that’s on her or the label pushing it. If y’all think flopping like a floppy fish on stage is sexy….sure Jan. She posts “sexy” content on IG like licking lollipops then cries when people make comments. If you’re not comfortable then don’t post that content online. Because you have to know people will talk. She’s talented and I’m tired of anytime people critique an artist it’s hate. Y’all will say everyone “ate and left no crumbs” for literally everything 🙄
Yesssssss!! Gay men hate women so of course they wouldn't have any problems with a woman degrading herself
CHLOE definitely has A STAR Presence, i'm waiting for her debut album big time!
“We’ve got comfortable with mediocre” THANK YOU!!! AMEN!!
I’d feel myself if I had Beyonce in my corner too.. collected awards with my sister, etc.. Keep growing and glowing Chloe. Your magic is yours and you HAVE to practice it so you can master it✨✨✨
What I heard in these black streets wasn't really "doing too much" some people just said they think her sexuality and confidence comes off as forced sometimes. I honestly think it's cause she's a young woman who just not so long started expressing herself as an adult. Kinda like that lollipop video she posted and deleted in the same day. I agree to an extend not because of what she does or wears but because it occasionally comes off as "yes they should think I am sexy. This is sexy. Can you tell I am being sexy?"
That's what people mean by doing too much, that's exactly what they are talking about. The forced sexuality.
Thank you Zach!!!!!
We have NEVER been mediocre and she should be able to find herself 💯💯🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️
She does a lot… 😂😂😂 but she deserves room to grow. Shes young in age and young as a artist. In my opinion…when in doubt, just sing girl. You do that BEAUTIFULLY. 💕
100% agreed! I think black community needs to realize that even though there are "cultural patterns" that we share ,we are also allowed to be individuals and like different things! Especially things not pertaining to our culture.I kinda had a identity crisis growing up because my peers didn't understand that and made me feel like the odd one out. Even my own family member has said I have white tendencies .....lol wut
She is probably one of the only artists in the past three years to leave me completely shocked at their debut performance this girl slays periodt
You get it

This is so true! Chloe is amazing. People who gas the discrepancies are the ones truly doing too much. She’s a look and a vibe.
I’m so glad you spoke on this
I agree 1000% what you said about we need to give black women artist room to grow and express themselves in different facets.
