As a fellow Bay Area native I had high hopes for saweetie but I can tell you this, her music isn’t really played on radio out here and that says a lot. I can see how she evolved from icy girl to my type and it doesn’t suit her. So by you saying “ghetto girl” literally hit the nail on the head. I believe that she depends on the pretty privilege for record sales and it’s not giving what it needs to give. I don’t like to compare different artists but if we’re going to talk about female rappers from the Bay Area who I would love to see in mainstream media it’ll be kahmaiyah. She has a unique sound and her music SLAPS. I want to see saweetie tap in (no pun intended lol) back to icy girl and get back into that boss mindset. That sound was authentic and fits her. This isn't nepotism. Her parents aren't famous. Chlöe & Halle for exemple, are cousins with Charlemagne but they ain't nepo babies, Glorilla is cousins with Cardi B but she ain't a nepo baby. A nepo baby is someone like Lily-Rose Depp or Kendall Jenner.

She went from special to basic. Her quality went down when she started doing what people thought was a pretty girl vs actually just being a pretty girl with a tomboy persona like Glorilla. And I hate to compare but I thought she was gonna be giving the energy that Glo naturally has which is why I started rocking with saweetie till she became very basic...sorry not sorry

Saweetie, has the same issue that Chloe is having, which is what you stated in the video. Identity crisis. They are trying to sell us an identity that seems inauthentic and a large number of us are simply not buying it. I agree, the ghetto girl persona Saweetie keeps trying to give is very off putting and forced. Idk if the label is telling her to do that or what but she need to quit it. A lot of her older fans say that she use to rap about stuff with substance and she use to just have a real laid back, Cali flow but she switched up. You can even hear the difference between how simple and fire Icy was compared to how forced her more current shit sounds.
Aside from being light skinned, everyone forgets her mother was a video vixen and had major connections in the industry. Her father was in the industry as well I believe as a rapper, oh! And shes also the cousin of Gabrielle Union. This is what REALLY got her in the door. Shes a nepotism baby.

I agree with you when you said that Saweetie wasn’t always that ghetto girl. In the beginning she was like a Lori Harvey, a social light in Hollywood. You never heard her talk, Nor did you know what she did, but she was just a pretty girl .I don’t know how or when she switched up. Finally someone with a platform said it,because I’ve been saying that for years.
I feel as tho Saweetie should’ve stuck to her old sound. Yes Icy Girl was a sample but it was fresh, it was cute and had everyone’s attention. Then her High Maintenance EP was amazing: lyrically, production wise,etc. Where she falls flat (now this is just constrictive criticism from a fan) is that to me she’s trying to be like other female rappers. She doesn’t have her own lane to stand on her own. Now, the new EP she released isn’t bad but it’s not giving lyrically and she’s still doing samples. Like Zach said it sounds like it was just put together. Whoever her AR is should’ve told her that she needs to go back to the drawing board! Also, if the EP was coming out there should’ve been a rollout or something to promote it because nobody knew she dropped new music! Personally I feel as though she needs to go thru Artist Development so that she can go back to her old sound but lyrically she can improve; until then she should just lay low with the music for now and work on her craft for the time being. I love Saweetie but that EP isn’t it.
Also, she’s not a big artist to where she can release music without a rollout and expect it to sell. Record labels need the money to be recouped and in her case, 2k in the first week does not look good at all! If you look at her first EPs sales it’s higher than 2k. It’s better for artist to stick to what they due until they grow a strong fan base and THEN change into a different direction!
You know what’s funny is that she don’t like that Maintenance Ep witch is weird to me because that’s some of her best work so far compared to this now !

Yeah when I first found out about saweetie, she gave off the pretty class girl with a tomboy side. Like Zach said, she was the pretty educated proper girl and not ghetto. And there was nothing wrong with that. Saweetie wasn't as good lyrically. But, the classy girl vibe she had going for her made up for it and she could've found her own lane.
Yet, she switched to this ghetto rap and like he said, it doesn't come across as authentic compared to actual hood girl rappers like Lotto. And unfortunately, mediocre lyrics plus this ghetto girl image she switched too pretty much caused her to fall off. She faded into the crowd knowing she doesn't have anything going for her to stand against Lotto, Glorilla, etc. in comparison to if she had just stayed in her icy girl, pretty girl classy style.
I know she went to artist development classes, but why can't she see she had the perfect formula for her? I do want to see her win and I honestly think, going back to icy girl classy style, plus better lyrics, and good stage performances is all she really needs.

I miss her icy girl era. She needs to go back to how she started when we first introduced to her. She has some good songs, but its like her projects aren’t cohesive. She’s not a bad rapper when she puts her mind to it but she really needs to step it up if she wants to redeem herself musically. The EP was giving she don’t really fw with her musicality no more.

Her delivery/flow on the baby mama coochie remix was a vibe. It would’ve been nice to see her play more around with that. Thank you! I’ve been saying this for years. I was a huge fan back during her first launch and the Icy girl era. After “My Type”, I noticed they changed her brand and the music stopped appealing to me. She’s a sweet girl, but I missed the Icy girl era.
The fact she’s been out for a while and she doesn’t have proper project/album out is a problem. I liked her music when she started out but idk what’s going on now, the ep isn’t the worst thing, there’s two songs I can vibe too but the fact that it barely caused any noise is worrying.

I agree with you!! And have been feeling that same way about Saweetie for a long time. I think she would have did better with being cute, prissy like she started out as because that seems more here. But she tried to develop this hood ghetto girl persona, that as you mentioned does not come off as authentic. I think a new team behind her may help her.

I will always have a level of respect for saweetie for trying and doing her best. It's hard for some people to even get started. She's always seem to be sweet and humble outside of music & tried to INCLUDE girls in her "pretty bitch movement" instead of exclude them. She seems like she would make a great friend, but her music does need some serious work because these songs were trash. But that's said out of love.
