Just replaced the bumper cover on my son's 2003 Mustang. Also replaced the headlight assemblies. Saved me about a grand and it was fun hanging out with my son. Many thanks for an excellent video!
Thanks for the video. My stepdaughter centered up a street sign and killed the front of her 99 Mustang. So I had to replace the AC condenser, the radiator, headlights, headlight panel, impact foam and the front bumper cover. Back in the day it would have been totaled but videos like this one definitely gave me the confidence to try the repair on my own. My replacement cover didnt come with the metal brackets attached, so I had to do the pop-rivets on it, but other than that it was exactly what you had to do.
outstanding video. I am going to need to pull my front bumper off to do some upgrades/mods/repairs and it was nice to have a look at it apart before tackling it blindly in the drive way!
Broke the connector clip @ 1:28. haha. I have done that before. Those seem to break easily and sometimes a pain to remove without breaking them. Love the video. I plan on buying and fixing up these model mustangs and this helps alot.
That is a chin spoiler. It does not come with the bumper it is a add on part. I bought that from americanmuscle.com The brackets shown before that should be attatched to the new bumper cover. Best of luck with that.
Also the 3 tabs on the inside of the bumper that those 2 metal brackets get riveted to are really flimsy, they all have a crease in them like they are designed to tear off the bumper, but I'm not happy with how weak they look. They look like if I were to bend them one way and back the other they would just snap off, were yours solid or did they have a crease in them too?
7/16ths socket works fine also for the bumper side nuts. Those headlight studs are supposed to go through plastic grommets, not just in the holes of the header panel
what screw connectors are you using for the grille to connect to the panel on top? just replaced my bumper and missing most of the screws for the top and cant seem to find what parts or substitutes im missing
I have a big compressor in my garage.Any compressor should work. Make sure you have a hose that is larger and has a good airflow. Best of luck wiht it.
David. The foam impact absorber will really protect you and your car in an accident. Its not all that expensive so I would recommend installing it. Best of luck with it.
@@lastmoto777 thanks you. I bought one and reduced any slack the bumper had and I asked because the parts stores I go to didn't have any bit I I order one for American muscle it's a good fit. I appreciate the feed back. Much love brotha
I wish you had shown us what was wrong with the header panel if not on the old one, the new one. You said something about rounded tabs. I was disappointed I didn't get a tour of that particular damage.
I used self tapping screws and a fender washer. When you put it on just bring it to the styrofoam do not tighten once the washer gets up against the foam impact absorber. the bumper cover will hold it in place anyway. Best of luck with it.
I'm having an issue with my bumper. I'm also replacing my 2000 Mustang bumper, and I needed some insight on how to put it together. I see the brackets should be attached to the bumper instead of the fender... That was a very important part. Now I have to figure out how to put the bracket to the bumper...lol... Thanks, imma try is Monday..
a garage will work , but a paint booth is better because it exhausts all the overspray while you are painting and filters the incoming air. No dust no bugs no debris on your new paint job! Best of luck with it Jose.
Thanks. The color is dark shadow gray...It is a stock color. I did use a slightly lower air pressure on the basecoat so it would come out a hair darker. Good luck with it.
I bought my bumper from rock auto as well but mine didn't come with those 2 metal brackets at the corners with the 2 studs... did you buy the economy bumper or the CAPA certified one?
CAPA certified..... The CAPA bumper cover is not that much more expensive. I didn't realize the economy wouldn't even have the brackets. That's sad on their part. They should specify that in the description.
That's strange, I bought the CAPA Certified one as well but mine still didn't come with those brackets, must have been a different supplier... Yea it's frustrating that they don't give more detail on their products
That's strange because I have bought 2 of these and they both had brackets attached. You should give them a call and ask them about it. Maybe they sent you a bad part..
Tony all the bumper covers I ever bought have had them already attached. I bought them from rock auto. Hope this helps. Kenny had trouble with his. You could always order by phone to make sure.
I think the hole is for a 3/16 rivot so just get yourself a self tapping screw large enough to thread into that hole. I used a 1.25 " screw with a fender washer on it. There is plenty of room inside the bumper for the screw to tighten. Be Careful with the tightening you dont feel much resistance from the styrofoam. Good luck with that.
I gotta say I watch this video and I happen to have the same year model car mine's GT it also has the same color I think that's a gun metal Grey and I had an accident a few weeks ago I hit a full size dog and didn't go very well 4 the dog and I left my car with a crooked smile but this was very informative and I can actually do the work myself thanks for the info boss and save myself $1,000 worth of work at a body shop how to say like the step-by-step instructions
Sorry about your car and the dog, but I'm glad the video helped. I gotta tell you.. at the end of the project it will feel good to have the extra $1000 in your pocket instead of someone elses! ....Good luck with it !
did your bumper and header panel come with the bolts and fasteners needed because I just bought a used mustang and it doesn't have the bolts on it already. If not, where would I need to buy those?
No it doesn't come with any bolts or fasteners. You can buy them at an auto parts store, or better yet you may be able to find them at an auto salvage yard an buy a hand full of fasteners for almost nothing. A dealer will be expensive. Good luck with that.
if i just put like plastic panel retainers instead of bolts like on the 2 holes at the ends of the header panel will it be ok? i put them in and i used some force and it doesn't move. i just wanna know if it a good idea lol
I will say this. they will take like a week to deliver, and shipping is high. If you combine parts cost and shipping they are still cheaper than almost anybody. Good luck with it !
@@lastmoto777 THANK YOU BROTHER. I bought one not to long ago. The kid was a bad driver now I gotta fix it up. Really needed to know the name of the paint. Your a real one
Do not paint like this guys here lol wow, my good go in your damn garage and built a proper or home made poly square to deselect dust and particles, I bet your bumper has so many speckles in the paint
Actually it was early spring . No bugs. I wet the driveway to keep down the dust, and it actually came out excellent. Of course I would always recommend a spray booth or well ventilated garage if there is one available lol.
I have an expensive gun bought from a paint shop many years ago. You can really buy one from lowes, Northern tool, Harbor Freight very inexpensively ($ 20- $30) if you don't paint alot. They will do a respectable job for you. The quality of the paint job depends alot on the painter as much as the gun you use. lots of videos out there to help. Best of luck with it !

Glad the video was helpful. Good luck with yours.
What part are you putting on at 11:18 i got a new bumper for mine and it does not have that in the kit

best video i have found on youtube :)

Pretty good job man. Hopefully soon I will do this to my 2000 mustang.
Thanks and good luck with yours.
Hey what if you don't put that foam thing would the bumper be to big. Is it necessary
David. The foam impact absorber will really protect you and your car in an accident. Its not all that expensive so I would recommend installing it. Best of luck with it.

I wish you had shown us what was wrong with the header panel if not on the old one, the new one. You said something about rounded tabs. I was disappointed I didn't get a tour of that particular damage.
Your impact absorber, what was used to attach on the bottom?
I used self tapping screws and a fender washer. When you put it on just bring it to the styrofoam do not tighten once the washer gets up against the foam impact absorber. the bumper cover will hold it in place anyway. Best of luck with it.

@lastmoto777 I see most people that get them do, but mine came separated, unfortunately. I'll figure it out....
What is the difference between using a painting booth over a garage 🤔

What color exactly is the mustang? Its freaking beautiful. I want to get mine painted that color now.
Thanks. The color is dark shadow gray...It is a stock color. I did use a slightly lower air pressure on the basecoat so it would come out a hair darker. Good luck with it.
Thinking about getting a Mustang GT like this, but I'm not sure if I should get an automatic or manual?
Got a termi bumper without the mounting hardware. Could I reuse my brackets from the stock bumper?
What's the name of the part you're putting on at 17:58?
i heard "Cover hard".
Radiator cover
Expensive fragile plastic fucker
shroud
Came out nice. Great video I have to do the same thing thanks
What do you need to put the impact foam on
What’s that foem piece called mr
Impact absorber.Best of luck with it.
Videos are very helpful
Thanks. I am glad the video was helpful.
I seen that gee u broke that lamp connecter but awesome job keep up the good work
I want to repair my 01 Mustang on the front bumper.. What's the website called you order your front bumper? This Is really Helpful thank you.
What are the 2 black flaps in front of the radiator for? I have them but do I need to put them on ?
Those are just to help the wind from under the car point at the radiator but now that are not necessary to have
I bought my bumper from rock auto as well but mine didn't come with those 2 metal brackets at the corners with the 2 studs... did you buy the economy bumper or the CAPA certified one?

hey did you find a solution on how to get the brackets on im about to order a painted bumper i assume ill run into this problem
Tony all the bumper covers I ever bought have had them already attached. I bought them from rock auto. Hope this helps. Kenny had trouble with his. You could always order by phone to make sure.
what size self tapping screw do you use to secure the impact absorber on the bottom?
I think the hole is for a 3/16 rivot so just get yourself a self tapping screw large enough to thread into that hole. I used a 1.25 " screw with a fender washer on it. There is plenty of room inside the bumper for the screw to tighten. Be Careful with the tightening you dont feel much resistance from the styrofoam. Good luck with that.
Thanks! I was able to use the 1.25 " screw; it was the correct size.
Where did you buy your spray gun and how much was it?
I gotta say I watch this video and I happen to have the same year model car mine's GT it also has the same color I think that's a gun metal Grey and I had an accident a few weeks ago I hit a full size dog and didn't go very well 4 the dog and I left my car with a crooked smile but this was very informative and I can actually do the work myself thanks for the info boss and save myself $1,000 worth of work at a body shop how to say like the step-by-step instructions

No. But mine was broken. So I had to in my situation. If yours is not broken it doesnt need to be replaced. Good luck with it.
How did you get bumper brackets on? I can get everything else on but the stupid brackets will not go on
On the bumper itself that is
my 97 gt bumper got ripped off a while ago. will it be the same as the 99-04 mustangs? or are the 97s bumper different?
Its a different fender, but the procedure will be the same.
Good video! 👍
For just the front plastic bumper do you have to buy a new styrofoam with it?
No you can just buy the bumper cover. If the styrofoam is all busted up I would replace it though. Good luck with that.
+lastmoto777 Alright thanks for the help 👍
is that an SVT Cobra R?
No. Its a base model with bits and pieces of a bunch of Mustangs.
if i just put like plastic panel retainers instead of bolts like on the 2 holes at the ends of the header panel will it be ok? i put them in and i used some force and it doesn't move. i just wanna know if it a good idea lol
IDK for sure. A bolt would probably be better but if a tight fitting plastic retainer holds ok who knows. Good luck with that.
where did you get the bumper
I bought all the parts for that project at rock auto.com. Except for the paint. Good luck with that.
Is Rockaouto reliable?
Yes.I have used them with no problems many times.
+lastmoto777 thanks for the reply and i just seen a lot of reviews and i wanted to make sure since the reviews didnt speak too well about them
I will say this. they will take like a week to deliver, and shipping is high. If you combine parts cost and shipping they are still cheaper than almost anybody. Good luck with it !
LOL broken clip at 1:31 , I'v never seen anyone use a crowbar for the headlight pins.
LOL. Pretty awesome isn't it?.... Surprisingly I use that little ROOFING tool all the time.
I replaced the header panel and now my lights face down
Good job.

I highly doubt anyone will see this or care, but anyone know color this is called:)
Shadow, gray. It is actually a stock color for that year. Best of luck with yours.
