  • Join us on our first winter camp of the year!! - The conditions turned out to be better than forecast and even though this might win awards for the shortest bikepacking trip ever in miles it delivered in otherways and lodged itself as a firm favourite in our memories. We hope you enjoy it too!

    Good stuff! Well done to you both! Brilliant video and great trip on your tractor tyres bikes:-] Hard work though with all that camping kit up the hills and in challenging weather too. Glad you got a nice sunrise and some nice weather too. Really enjoyed how you comment it all like if you were commenting your afternoon shopping or walk with a dog in local park:-] Good luck for more trips like that! Jonas

    Great adventure, thanks for sharing. Loved the edit and I enjoyed viewing some great footage, which really captured the essence of a Scottish winter adventure in the hills. I think you got the balance just right. Sometimes the shorter trips make for the best vids. ATB, Dave.

      Thanks Dave - our days of big heroic efforts on the bike is long gone.. (its an age thing 😁) it would have been foolish to push on in the fading light in that environment and frankly would have been missing the point!!! - Looking forward to seeing you backout in the wilds doing what you do best!! - ATB Tom

    Great video! Can you tell me what type rear rack you're using? I'm after one for my Kona Wo. Thanks for the help 👍

    • @hikebikescotland9121
      @hikebikescotland9121  Рік тому

      Peter - I'm using what appears to be an older version of the 'UNI SUPER TOURIST FAT TOPEAK' rack - mine doesn't have the adjustability provided at the bottom section however this hasn't proved to be a problem - I was lucky and it came with the bike (second hand) so didn't have to over think it! When packing the panniers I do try and keep the weight down by packing them with the larger bulky items (sleeping bags/winter roll matts etc) just because I'm always worried about the potential strain on the clips that hold it on especially if going over bumpy ground which often happens... no issues yet though the panniers are pretty old but have stood the test of time!!

    • @hikebikescotland9121

      More than the bag (or at least as important) is the sleeping pad/Matt..no bag will keep you warm when the compressed down under your butt is just a few millimetres above a freezing snow covered mountain! 😂 ATB

      @hikebikescotland9121  Рік тому

    What tent is that look strong

    • @hikebikescotland9121
      @hikebikescotland9121  Рік тому +1

      Its an Alpkit Kangri - its not the lightest tent in the world at about 4kg but it is what I would call a proper mountain tent - rock solid inside even in 40mph+ winds!!!

    • @hikebikescotland9121
      @hikebikescotland9121  Рік тому +1

      Hi Adventure Traveller - theres not much to say really... I didn't buy it as I got it with the bike (second hand purchase) it appears to be an older version of the 'UNI SUPER TOURIST FAT TOPEAK' rack - mine doesn't have the adjustability provided at the bottom section however this hasn't proved to be a problem - You can't seem to buy them like mine anymore so doubtless I'll be struggling to replace it if and when it breaks... some of these fat bike specific racks are really expensive 😐 - ATB Tom

      Oh you mean the car rack for the bike!!! I thought you ment the pannier rack on the bike!!!.. let me dig out the details of what we got and I'll get back to you with some more info!!!

    • @hikebikescotland9121
      @hikebikescotland9121  Рік тому

      The rack for the car is from roofbox.co.uk - its the cheapest 4 bike towbar fit - I think its called buzz rack BB4 - we went with the non tilting one because I'm tight 🤣 - I have used it for 4 fat bikes once but used a strap at the top as it was around the maximum recommended weight... everything stayed on though!! word of warning we did need to get their longer straps for the fatbike tires... ended up over £50 for all 4 racks.. of course if you don't need it for 4 bikes then I think things could get a good bit cheaper!

    • @hikebikescotland9121
      @hikebikescotland9121  Рік тому +1

      I also fitted to towbar myself.. took me about 4-5 hours but I was pleased with that and it was a nice sunny day as I recall... I think it was a pfjones bar and kit... about £200 - but you're right it ends up being an awful lot of money... 😫
