- I just bought a new 3rd generation Suzuki Burgman 400 maxi scooter. I spent a lot time researching this scooter. This video points out a few things not found in some of the other videos on UA-cam. If you are looking to purchase one, my video might be helpful. I do compare a little bit to some of the other scooters out there.

I've had all sizes of bike from 175 to 900; over my past 60years! Honestly! My Burgman 400 (2010),is the best cruising, comfortable, touring at 75mph bike I've ever owned!!! Period!!!!!!
A used 2006 burgman 400 in spring 2009 with 12k miles was my 1st 2 wheeler ever. I had gotten into an internship that was a big deal especially with the econ. Crash......But anyway I'm a huge person 6'2" 350 so the only downside I ever experienced was harassment and looks etc being a "scooter.
I bought it to learn how to ride on and after 6 months and 20k miles on it as a daily driver, I keep finding reasons to keep it and did have 2 2006 400 models now to keep one running bc the odometer quit working nearly a decade ago. So I can guess it's likely 140-160k miles lol....And even taken a few gulf coast rides during a weeks vacation etc. I'm interested in a 650 if a sweet deal happened but since i have quit driving pretty much completely due to a neck injury in past 4 years but can't make myself sell my old Bernice bc I've bonded with her way too well. So glad I got lucky and picked the best possible option 1st....btw I did have a vstrom 1000 but sold it asap bc I preferred burgman by large margin

Great bike, I have one (she's my daily commute despite having an E Class) and there's now 60,000 on the clock. I won't part with her and she's professionally serviced every 2,500 - on the button. (I have the B-650 too, but she's the long-distance tourer.) I'm in my sixties and I read that there's guys in the late seventies still on 2 wheels because of this specific Suzuki model. Good luck with her.

I had a burgman 400.i bought a brand new one in 2012.i loved it&I preferred the dials on the 12 model.i always wanted the 650&I had a test ride on one back in 2018.i loved the sound and feel of the 650.my current scooter is the honda silverwing 600 which I bought new in 2016.i've done 32000 miles with her now.the silverwing 600&burgman 650 were my two dream scooters.i love my silverwing and I intend to hang onto her until she's done

I have owned over 25 motorcycles and scooters over the last 34 years. I now ride a old 12k mile 2007 Burgman 400..............and I LOVE that silly thing! It is quite literally the PERFECT touring bike for me. I am 5' 10" with a 31" inseam and it fits me like a glove. Fixing to do a 700 mile weekend ride this coming weekend. 😎

My ONE gripe is the factory seat comfort. But my simple gel + memory foam seat pad takes care of that.

Just got mine! A 2015 model with just a little over 3000 miles.
I'm very pleased with it, having owned a Zuma 125 for a couple of years, I miss the 125 fuel mileage, but the roomier ergonomics and performance increase make up for it.

Great review! I have a 2015 Burgman 400 (old style)...I too love mine. Funny, you kept mentioning the Kymco...had a 2010 500ri. Great scooter! I probably would still have it, except for the fact that, I am a short guy, the seat was 30.7inches of the ground if I remember correctly, which made it impossible for me to flat foot it. And to top it off, the scoot was very top heavy! Slow riding it and trying to manuever it backwards or parking it was awful for me. But man, it ran and handled amazingly well once you got it going. Anyway, I had had enough of that and traded it for the Burgman with its 28in seat height and never looked back. I totally agree with you as to handling and everything else. Will recommend this scooter hands down. Again thanks for the video, continue to enjoy your scoot, and stay safe. P.S. I also changed the windshield...only con for me.
Biker for 49 yrs and bought x max 250a few yrs ago and rode uk to spain a few times. So shocked on their ability compared to big bikes. So comfy and effortless

Nice bike, i'm a fellow burgman owner, 650, it's olde, 2004, i've had it for 3 summers now & really like it, you are right though, it is a heavy olde girl but very comfortable to ride. It's funny but you mentioned having had a piaggio bv, i also have one of those only it's a 500 cc, love it as well but it's not as comfortable to ride as the burgman, however still great fun to tour out on, it is a 2006. I'm glad to see slightly older people riding bikes still as i myself am 73 yrs young & intend to ride forever if i can. You're never to olde to ride as lonv as you can physically hold the thing upright. Once again, really nice machine, keep upright & on two wheels, ric, an olde geezer from ontario canada.
I have a 2006 Suzuki 400cc. And I like the larger windshield, I like the low center of gravity , the easiest bike to ride I've ever had to ride

I like the idea of Suzuki reliability and Burgman durability for my rides into remote areas. I had a cheaper scooter....Never again. Also the Burgman has one very special quality unusual for a scooter; absolutely superb braking and ABS. That strong twin disc front brake saved my bacon one day when a car ran a stop sign. That makes it a bargain.

I just picked up the 2022 Burgman 200, it rides like a Cadillac compared to other scooters and motorcycles I’ve ridden. Great suspension, excellent cruiser. The CVT is the smoothest I have experienced, it feels like you’re driving a regular automobile. The new Burgman 200 is a powerful vehicle, you can absolutely ride two up after the break-in period. I can’t believe I was actually thinking about getting the ADV 150. The 2022 Burgman 200 is expensive but only $700 more than the weak ADV 150 which is grossly exaggerated and overpriced.

Nice vid. I have a 2018 #GreatWhite: Agree, there aren’t many videos about the latest gen Burgman 400, and with Euro4, much has changed. Changing oil is easy. Changing gear oil is more challenging, because you have to pull some body panels and the clutch plate cover doesn’t come off with a simple pull by hand.
- MPG won’t be as high as internal computer tells you, but it is still good.
- Anti-lock brakes are nice, and the system makes a high-pitched sound plus the rear brake lever pulses lightly to let you know ABS is working. Like most bikes, learning to modulate the front brake as needed will greatly reduce stopping distance.

Corbin doesn’t yet make a seat for this generation, though you can ride-in to their facility to get one done on-the-spot reusing your seat pan.

My only gripe is the sound, which I think is too harsh/buzzy at acceleration. Getting a good sound out of a single cylinder ‘thumper’ is always a trick, do it wan’t a deal-breaker to me. But I’d prefer a more refined sound to the stock blat.

Thanks for your video, I found it helpful. I hope your still doing well. I can relate to the long research period. I'm probably going to pull the trigger on a 2022 400 (now with traction control). I like the idea of an AK550, or a used B650, or even, especially as an old sport-bike guy, a used T MAX, but wait, the weight. When I read that the B650 was 611 lbs, more than my old Ninja 900 or GS 850, I was thinking, nope. I'm 60 now, not 30 :), my back ain't picking that sucker up if I ever... :) Thanks for the down to earth details. My 30" inseam appreciates it.
Great review! I enjoyed listening to your perspective. Right off the bat I want to say I LOVE the color! My situation: 62 years old, moved to The Algarve, Portugal last summer. We're renting a car right now looking to buy. I didn't know about maxi scooters until I saw a Yamaha T-max in a parking garage. Seems like a perfect mode of transportation for this stunningly scenic part of the world. Now, I've got the bug!

I have a 2018 400 and absolutely love it. Fitted a Givi 3115ST screen on it for better protection (a must have IMO).

Very competent machines. Ive owned two burger 400s, a 2003 model and a 2008 one. I did approxiamately 42000 miles on both. I bought them new.for such a long machine these handle extremely well, low and high speed. Economy, storage and weather protection are first class. This latest incarnation looks good too but i decided to go for the kymco xciting 400i because it was significantly cheaper. I bought this new as well and im into my 6th year of ownership. It compares well with the burgman, though storage isnt quite as good. However its handling and performance are better than the burgmans i had though perhaps this model is ad good or better.id be interested to find out how you get on with it. You mention the windshield and being a tall chap i fitted a new screen to the kymco and a small extension. Now its perfect. Good review by the way, keep them coming. Keep your eyes open for the new 35bhp zontes maxi scooter which should be launched this year. Even cheaper than the kymco which at present is coming in at £5600 in the uk. Friend has kymco 300 and done 42k. When it was new I said it wont last but faired better corrosion wise than my yamaha
Flames are awesome! I'm gonna buy one soon and put flames on it also! Even have some on my cars. I like a bigger windshield too!
just got one 2022 swordsilver new . i had a mp3 500 . got to get use to handling 2 wheels . i can wait for sunny weather to go ride .

Thank you for the great review! I just bought a 2006 400 from a friend and can't believe how fun and practical it is to ride. I like the way it almost looks like a touring mororcycle but I like the way yours looks much better. I was wondering if the upgrades and more modern suspension on yours is worth trading up to a 2019+ model.

I came down from a 650 so for me it was much lighter. The newer models are narrower and edgy looking which I like. You do lose a some of the under seat storage on the new models. I think the suspension is greatly improved too. I also like the all around LED lighting too. The seat is very comfortable and narrow so easier for shorter passengers and better at stop lights.
I rented one of these when in Hawaii for vacation and love it
Nice video. There are a few videos on changing the oil and the windscreen on the Burgmans, but a lot fewer than “regular” motorcycles. Thank you for including your inseam (and height), most reviewers forget those important details. I had a Vespa GranTurismo 200 but the water pump started to leak and replaced it with a 2018 Burgman 200. I use the scooter for commuting to the gym and to pick up groceries. I want to replace the little Burgman with the 400cc Burgman or the Yamaha XMax. I do like the light weight and shorter wheelbase of the 200 but want a little more power. The Burgman 200 will do over 70 mph and keep up with traffic. Storage capacity is good, especially with the Givi top box. One negative is that the riding position on the 200 is very cramped even with my 29” inseam. Another annoyance with the little Burgman is vibration at idle and having to rev the engine to at least 4500 rpm before it will move. Thanks for including the information on battery location. On the 200, the battery is under one of the floorboards.
I looked at the 200 too. It has more underseat storage. But I was afraid doing 2 up it might not be enough. Are riding area has a lot of mountains. I have a Vespa and it is fun, its my Rally scoot and short trip machine. I wanted to look at the Xmax but none sold here. This website might be helpful for you. Good review - I enjoyed it - I have one the same in England - one thing that I think worth mentioning over the last generation ( I had one) is the larger front wheel size - makes a really big difference and improves ride,handling and comfort. I have top box and larger front screen but still disappointed with the the latter as still get noise - but I am 6'2" so probably my fault! I will subscribe and keep you on your toes 😉😉🇬🇧🇬🇧
How is the rear suspension on UK bumpy roads? I have foresight 250, and although I love the scooter concept, it's bad for my lower back. I'm 6.2 too

I am now eagerly waiting for this bike I booked last week. I traded in my Harley Iron 883 for this in an almost a straight swap (I somehow have to add a couple thousand of Ringgit more) but I'm happy as I know I've made a correct choice...

Great hype-free video, thanks. I'm in the UK and have a 2020 Burgman 400. I've fitted the Givi Airflow screen which is a big improvement over the stock screen and can be fitted in less than 20 minutes. I also have a 46 litre Givi topbox fitted. Overall I like the bike although I do find it very vibey at slow speeds which is a little disappointing.
Pretty decent review couple flaws about upgrades but otherwise very concise. I have a 2010 with 62,000 miles on her now she has been thoroughly upgraded. And customized using parts from we bike Japan. Using parts from her true name Suzuki skywave. Good luck in all your rides
I’ve just purchased one here in the UK and hope to pick it up in the New Year sometime. Might get the Givi Airflow screen too. I’m 6ft and might get the same wind issues as you’ve experienced. We’ll see.
I looked at a lot of Airflow you tube videos. For me I never change the windscreen position on any of the bikes I have had, so felt it was necessary on this one. Everyone is different. Enjoy your new ride!
I have a 2018 Burgman 400. It had the airflow screen already on it. Thought it looked a bit odd. However after 2000 miles I would say it almost completely eliminates turbulent air and wouldn’t part with it. On other scooters have added the small detachable clip on deflectors which have worked well also. Great video by the way, well explained and helpful.

Thanks for the detailed walk through on the passenger situation. I am looking at the Forza 350 but I don't think the passenger would feel as safe there. Also I find the Burgman's rear suspension much more elegant. I had the 2nd gen Burgman 400 before.

Excellent presentation and most appreciated since I'm presently looking at a Burgman or possibly a Girlera, or (?) since I have some physical issues with mounting and unmounting a couple of my motorcycles, and the step-through feature would be appreciated and actually have always wanted a scooter since I was fourteen but ending up getting a '62 Yamaha YDS2 250C cc Catalina for my first bike and then a '64 CL72 Honda 250 cc Scrambler, so the scooters just dropped out of the picture, besides the only ones offered then we're either Lambreta or Vespa.
One question I do have is what kind of mpg, in U.S. gallons. can I expect to get from the 400, just putting around on the open road ?
I get between 65 and 70 MPG on my Burgman 400 and around 75 - 80 on my Vespa GTV300. All of my riding is mostly 50mph or less. Sometimes I will take them on the freeway with speeds up to 75mph. So I would say 90% around town / 10% over 50mph

yes I put the touring windshield on it the first couple of weeks of ownership. I did a video on the installation on the channel. Well worth it.

I have videos up on the site for both items. Stickers I got from a company called westonink.com. They have reflective, non reflective all kinds of designs and colors. I really like them.
I have the 2022 version. I just bought it two weeks ago and it has traction control now

But please get that audio mastered. Bring each track in to audacity, run amplify effect, and noise reduction effect. I had to turn my TV way up and way down every time you switched cameras.

Thanks for the great video, but there is a video GIVI Monkey Top Case Installation; Suzuki Burgman 400 2017- Current Mitches scooter stuff. They are installing the V56 Monkey liter top box. Hopping to get on put on, if I decide to go with the Burgman They are bringing the Burgman 400 in at my dealer for me to look at. I do like the black with the red wheels and with LED lights should be no problem being seen. I do wish that the front storage was lockable, but not a deal breaker, with a 56 liter top box. like to carry a small battery air pump and a jump starter power bank. Don't think I will need the jump starter for the Burgman but did for my DR650 as the heated grips drained the battery until I put all LED lights on it. Of all the heated grips I have had, the Oxford heated grips were by far the best. Again thanks for the Video one of the best. I am also going with the HP311B Hand Protectors, Helps keep your gloves dry if cough in a rain, as well as on them colder days.

Enjoy your scoot. not sure sure which Tmax you are talking about but they don't sell them in the US unfortunately certainly not the 560 which is huge in Europe but costly.
I've owned a 15' 650 for almost a year now. Haven't tested a 400, but I will say the 650 took a bit to get used to the weight and size at slow speeds and in the garage.
I'm 5'7" with a 30" inseam, and I need to scoot up a bit on the seat to flat foot. I do this when the Mrs. Mounts, otherwise I'm fine with just getting the balls of my feet down.
Otherwise, when riding, the 650 is easy to handle, leans and turns great and has good smooth acceleration. Very happy with my 650, but I could see someday going to a 400...
I enjoyed my 650 a lot. After a while the size doesn't bother you. Weight wasn't an issue moving. But moving it around in the garage, putting it on a trailer was more than I wanted to deal with. I understand in 2013 they made the 650 lighter by 40ish to 70ish pounds, and a little slimmer. They also redid the transmission so it rolled easier. Perhaps if I had a latter model I would still own it. The 2018 and up 400 is lighter and much slimmer than any of the models.
I was going to buy a scooter until I checked out the prices. I settled for an '83 Kawasaki KZ440 for $500 instead. Good review.

I think I'm gonna get me one. But kind of sad to hear you say this is your last scooter before death. I mean it's inevitable but still, sucks to hear. Hopefully I'm still riding scooters until I go out too.. don't stop riding
Hi, I was looking for videos on the Burgman 400 and saw your channel. I think my criteria for wanting to get this bike is much the same as yours was, I need a scooter for a bit of 2 up touring with my wife and to use as a daily bike for shopping and running errands etc. How are you finding the Burgman 400 ? Does it meet your needs as well as you'd hoped ? My wife is very curious to know how comfortable the passenger seat is as we like to do a lot of day trips during the summer months together, as for myself I'd like to ask how the Burgman handles with a passenger on the back, is it nice a stable or does it get a bit top heavy? I'm only 5'8" and 145lbs so taller bikes are usually an issue for me. Thanks for any advice you can give, I'm hoping to buy a Burgman 400 as soon as my local dealer gets one in.
Meets my needs, very stable with 2 up riding. Wife loves riding on it and is comfortable. Highly recommend a topcase though to give some security to passenger. low seat height really makes it nice to me to handle at stops. We have owned. Vespa 150. Vespa 300, Piaggio Beverly 350, Suzuki Burgman 650 and now this one. This is my wifes favorite one to ride on.
Thanks for the video...very helpful. Some odd coincidences, I'm about your age, have a GTS 300, and have been looking at maxi scooters. I'm considering used Burgman's, Majesty's and Silverwing's. Legroom is consideration because I've heard all three can feel a bit cramped. Does legroom feel at all tight to you? I haven't had the chance to sit on any of the three scooters yet. (32" inseam here)?
Any of those are good used options. Just get the one that makes you the most happy.

I'm 52 years old, 5'-9" tall at about 190 lbs and it seems to have all the power I would ever need for 2 up riding and the Suspension is the best I have ever seen on any scooter I've been on. I would Highly recommend the 2020 Suzuki Burgman 400

My 2020 Suzuki Burgman 400 has plenty of leg room for me (I'm 5'-9" tall and 189 lbs)
So unless you are really tall it should be fine for you
I own a 2019 burgman 400. I have 34.5 inch legs and it is perfect for my legs. I also way 100kg and it is very capable performing and handling
I put that kind of thought into everything I buy too 🙂
I just bought my 2022 Burgman 400 3 weeks ago and have put about 800 miles on it. When I'm doing 75 miles an hour, the tach reads 7,000 rpms. It sounds like it's going to self destruct. Is that normal?
This is a very helpful video, as you said there is nothing on UA-cam about the Burgman 400 from an owner-rider perspective. I would love some more info about how it handles a long journey two-up with some luggage, what kind of speed it can handle and the fuel consumption. I am not sure if a 400cc motor isn't working quite hard. Many Thanks.

I have a 2009 Burgman 400. Top speed is 100 mph + but I have never gotten it that high. The fastest I have gone is 90 mph and this was not straining the engine. However, just the overall weight and build of this machine I only feel good doing 75 max unless it is for passing. It doesn't go around curbs or turns as sharply as a regular motorcycle. It has pretty good weight on it but at 60 mph and up wind gusts can blow you around. I wouldn't want to cruise down the highway at 90 mph on this thing not because of the engine but just the overall weight and design is not for high speeds.
The best way to describe the performance its like driving a normal midrange car except you are on a bike. It takes off pretty fast but its not like a sports car or a big motorcycle. Slightly faster take off than a normal car. Top speed handles similar to a car would like a toyota camry or honda civic speed. It isn't a race car. In other words, absolutely perfect for commuting.
Touring with the 400? Lots of people do it but like I said this would be a situation where you keep it around 65 mph probably not interstate touring. The 650 Burgman is more made for interstate driving, long trips. Though the additional weight and lower gas mileage means in some ways the 400 is better for around town.
You get a significant difference in engine power depending on the gas used and the oil used. Using high octane gas and racing oil (synthetic) gets a lot better performance. Though the first 10,000 miles or so it is recommended you use regular oil (non synthetic) to break the engine in.
@@raymondkidwell7135 I had a 650 and loved it. Weight and size started to become and issue for me. I don't know about freeway 2 up touring on this on yet. I think it could do it, not sure what the speeds will be. I have a little weekend get away coming up and will test it out. Getting 650's in my part of US is getting difficult. I don't think they are shipping new ones here anymore.
@@gr8shotz00 I really liked the 600 cc Honda Silverwing but looks like they discontinued it. The 600 silverwing and the 400 burgman were the two best ones. Looks like Suzuki is the only one left making scooters in the 400-650 range. I think with the Silverwing the price was an issue not a lot of people wanting to pay $10,000 fo a new scooter. Now they seem focused on smaller scooters like 150, 200 cc.
I have a Cruisym 300.. I think it has the same seat hight as i can put both my legs flat on the floor

I've got an older 400 (20,000 K's). Still the best ride I've ever owned. (Probably the only scooter I can get my leg over)
Installed an aftermarket Givi wind screen, it certainly makes life easier in our northern climate

Thanks you're video was very helpful.... I had the Tmax 500 but I'm very short so it was very hard for me at stops.... So i had to sale it best bike I've ever road and I've road them all. I'm looking at a Burgman 400 or a Majesty 400 I'm to take a test ride on both this coming weekend.

Im in the market for a maxi scooter again..Rode a Honda Silverwing Maxi for 15 years but now i'm much older ( 81 ) and very concerned about the weight of a bike getting it back up if it falls. Seriously considering the Burgman 200 or 400. I only ride alone so no passenger. Would really like your opinion as to which one I should go for. Prefer the 400 but it weighs about 130 pounds more than the 200. I'm 5 9 and 200 lbs. Just worried about the weight! What do you think?? Thanks Loved the video on the windshield replcement as well!!!
I sat on both the 200 and the 400. The new 200 has a ton of storage under the seat. Its also very comfortable and a lot more affordable. I would have purchased it and really thought about it. But I do ride 2 up and wanted to do have options of riding on faster roads if need be. If you can get a chance to sit on both I think it would help you make your decision easier.
Thank you for your reply..I don't have any store within 80 miles to sit on them. I found a 200 near me 2018 with only 2400 miles in impeccable shape for $3150..sounds like a good deal!

Abs for the front brake for me would be the most important feature to have for safety and you have to try and find a lightly used one for half the price of a new one
This has ABS. The only scooter I looked at during my purchase process and research was the Sym Citycom 300i.
I miss my Burgman 650 sometimes. Although one thing that annoyed me with the 650, which I see with your 400, is that checking tire pressure can be a bit of a pain. The dual front disks are nice for breaking but neither side has a lot of clearance for the tire valve. I don't know about the 400, but with the 650, the rear tire was worse. You can't use the exhaust side and the other side had the massive gear train, and again not a lot of clearance for the tire valve. Also, the fat trunk made trying to check the tire pressure with a helmet on impossible.
I agree with you on the seat height. The 650 was wide and pretty tall. I never really liked how I wasn't as solidly planted with the feet on the ground at a stop. I would have probably looked into lowering the seat if I kept the bike. Plus it was a bit of a beast to push about. But when riding. Loved the bike. Very comfortable.
That's an issue for sure on most scooters I think. However on my Burgman 650 I put the 90 degree valve stems on it and it helped a lot. I never got around to doing it on the 400.
If you haven't already get yourself a Givi vario adjustable screen, it kills the turbulence. Latest models also have traction control.
The traction control could be a nice feature. The Givi adjustable wasn't available when I bought my Givi touring screen. I think it would have been a nice option.

Yamaha xmax only has 2 trim screws to remove to access the battery behind the front cowling?its not behind the screen.as per your comments.

Thanks for the clarification. I watched some UA-cam videos on it while trying to make my decision on what scooter to buy. It looked more complex and wasn't explained well in the videos. I really wanted to look at one but just none here in my area.

Have not toured with it yet. I can say that with 2 up and all the storage space filled up with groceries, etc. maybe 165kg of weight for us it has been fine. No bottoming out, handles well. We have not done that load yet at freeway speeds though.

I have videos here on my channel of all the upgrades I did. I put a bigger windscreen on. Heated grips and topbox. There really aren't to many upgrades you can do to this scooter as far as performance and really aren't needed

Only if you are going to do highspeed distance rides. The twin engine in those others would handle it better. Burgman 650s are not going to be made anymore. If that is a concern to you. I owned one and loved it. Big and heavy, but lighter and more nimble than a Harley. Wanted to look at the Kymco but none around here. Kymco makes good stuff too.
I have been searching for a while for 300 or 400 burgie and there is none in the United States and seems like and there is none definitely in my Massachusetts area where can I find one where who advertises them for sale in roughly what type of price range would I be looking at if I got like an older model maybe eight seven eight year old bike
They were super hard to find in Utah too. One company had the 400 which I bought, one company at a 200. I had to drive 70 miles to get it. Just keep looking. See if you can pre-order. The issue with these bigger scooters is they just aren't popular in the states.

Well, at this point in my life I find myself looking at scooters. I am 70 years old and have rode motorcycles since 1964. I am like you, my wife almost always rides with me. But here is my problem. My wife is crippled due to battleing cancer eight times. She had 12 surgeries in ten years, maxed out on chemo, radiation and cyber knife treatments. She is currently on immunotherapy treatments and will be every 28 days for the rest of her life. The radiation she had in 2011 was too hot and ruined the blod flow to her hips and she had to have a total hip replacement that didn't go well. Two months later she had brain surgery to remove some cancer that was causing her to have seizures. That surgery left her like a stroke victim with little control of her left side and very very weak.
We went to a HD trike when she started having seizures. Our thoughts were, if she had a seizure on a two wheeled motorcycle it might cause an accident injuring both of us and possibly others. We didn't want that. On a three wheeled machine we felt I should be able to pull over and tend to her needs.
SInce she hasn't had a seizure since her brain surgery I am wanting to get back to a two wheeled machine. The HD trike kept us out there in the wind, but they ride like a dump truck. I installed new progressive shocks on the rear and only run 20psi in the rear tires which helps very little. This is the main reason why I am looking at scooters.... the smoother ride.
I only have a 29" inseam so the low seat height is important to me and the cut outs on the floor boards you pointed out would be a great help for someone like me. We used to travel about 15,000 miles a year on motorcycyles, but things have changed. This year we only went about 7000 miles. We travel a lot of pretty two lane roads in SE Ohio but we also travel devided highways to get to some of these places. So the 400cc Butgman seems like the best choice.
I was looking at a Kymco X-Road 300i but the reviews say they have a lot of vibrations at 60 mph and above. We don't want that. My friend who has owned several scooters, including two Burgmans, a 400 and a 650 tells me he likes the Yamaha Xmax.. If purchasing a new one the Xmax does seem like a good deal. But I think I'm leaning more toward to Burgman 400 due to the lower seat height.
When my wife gets on a motorcycyle these days it is quite different. She has to climb aboard first. She has to mount the rider's seat sidesaddle, then put her right leg over to the other side (which would be much easier on a scooter than a motorcycle) then push herself up and back to the passenger seat, usually with a lot of help from me. But she still enjoys riding. Here the low seat height is once again important.
It seems funny to me, I don't care what I ride anymore, a large motorcycyleor or a scooter. But my wife acts like it must be a V-Twin motorcycle. I think if I ever got her on a Burgman 400 and went for a nice long ride she would love it.

Glad you both still like to ride. The burgman 400 would be an easier fit as long as you don't put a back rest style seat on for the driver. She could get on first, then slide to the back then you get on.
To be honest something like a Vespa 300cc or something similar where there is no hump in the middle of the floor board where she could step could be solution as well. She also would sit closer to you so you become a point of contact for her to grab or hold onto. A topcase makes it a nice secure space. My wife did years of riding on the Vespa with me like this.
Here is one last scooter to consider. Look at the Piaggio MP3. Its a 3 wheeled scooter. What makes it a possibility is its a leaning trike. Its very stable in turns and when you come to a stop there is a button you can push that keeps it upright and from leaning. I think at 15 mph the lock releases and you can lean again. (don't quote me on that). The beauty of this trike is when it is parked you can lock in the non lean mode. Which means she can now get on and get adjusted then you can get on and get adjusted and then you can start moving without having to tilt or lean of fuss with a kickstand. Piaggio makes quality machines. They were the inventor of the scooter. I took my Piaggio BV350 on many a 75mph ride with wife in tow. No vibrations.
Did you ever find yourself having trouble with the clutch mechanism? The flapping belt at low speeds?

Great review, great video. I’m torn between purchasing a new 2018 burgman 200 or a used 2018 burgman 400 with 4,000 miles on it. I won’t be riding two-up. Most of the roads here on Long Island N.Y. are between 30 and 55 speed limit. I’m 5’6” 120 lbs. with all the research you’ve done which burgman do you feel I would be best to purchase. The dealer wants 4,900 for the 200 and 6,500 for the 400. Thanks again for this very informative video.
I looked at the 200 and really liked it. The storage on the 200 is very impressive. I opted for the 400 because of my 2 up needs. The 200 can do 2 up and I know of some that have even done freeway for a short bit. I wanted more of a long hauler if we wanted to do that kind of riding. So if the 200 feels right. Do it!
