Thanks for your great video. I had a pomegranate tree in my backyard for many years - here’s another tip for anyone interested. If you slice off both ends and then slightly cut through just the outer skin on one or both sides, you can easily pry open the fruit and it will naturally roll out and lay in sections to be easily eaten. PS I always wear black/dark clothes while eating pomegranates to keep from staining. One of my favorite fruits! Take care.
I harvest about two wheelbarrows full. Time and efficiency is key! We cut them in half and juice the majority of them with a heavy duty citrus juicer. By hand, we simply turn the halves inside out in a bowl of water. Yes, we sacrifice a bit, but we don’t have time to be too finicky! We freeze the juice in quart jars, make pomegranate jelly, syrup, mix with tequila…and give it away! We had about 8 gallons this year. Incidentally, in South America, a folk remedy for diarrhea is a tea made of pomegranate skin.
Debra, thanks for watching and writing and sharing your insights and practices. Wow, it sounds like you make some incredible delicacies. 8 gallons! Wow. Thanks again! Best, DFJ
👍🏻🫶🏻❣️ WOW‼️ An amazing way to get a pomegranate processed. Just did 4 in about an hour, without your process. I’ll have to try both of your methods next time. At 54 years old and never having eaten a pomegranate 🙈 😂 (although I have had juice) I genuinely enjoyed watching your video. I’m a total stained mess, but achieved a good experience 😊 Thanks for the info!
Can you share how pick the best ones from grocery store & to know when they are ready to eat/cut open? It is not like a banana or apple that anyonecan tell when ripe or ready to eat. Thanks
I love these methods! What I like to do is place a paper towel or clean cloth (that I don’t care about being stained 😅) over the pomegranate while I “spank” it lol! The process is much cleaner this way. Great video and helpful tips!
This works great. We do this, then I put the fruit into an italian ricer and use that to squeeze the juice and some of the pulp out, while retaining the seeds.
Salutations fraternelles
He doesn't know You should eat the entire seed and some of the bitter dividers along with the thin film because those bitter parts have more benefits than the seeds themselves because they are loaded with fiber.
I do eat the seeds inside the aril. Some say you shouldn't as it can cause gastrointestinal problems, but that hasn't been the case for me. The membranes between the sections and arils can be made into a tea as well. Some people like that and say there are health benefits to doing so. Best, DFJ
@@DirtFarmerJay Like everything else God has created, small number of people are allergic to certain food even some to the air they breath! Yes if you are not allergic to the fruit eat in modesty because too much of anything can kill you even water!
Twilight zone: I leave a video about cats interrupting TV anchors during lockdown, and now another cat invades this video. And Im pretty sure my cat is outside my door right now........
I'd rather take the time to score the low areas of the fruit (sometimes 5, sometimes 6), cut out about a nickel sized section of the top (stem) and bottom (bloom), then pull it apart over a bowl. Then take the time to gently peel the arils out. It takes about 10 minutes. I find it enjoyable, and very few wasted (crushed) arils.
Chris, we had a slight delay and it will be posted next Thursday night. Thanks for noticing and commenting - and sorry for the inconvenience! Best, DFJ
Great demo. I want to plant and grow a pomegranate tree this year!! Hope they’re self-pollinators b/c I’ve only room for one tree in my tiny yard in San Diego, CA. Any suggestions??
For mushing pomegranates It’s better to keep them for like a week until the skin becomes leathery but not dry and then work on them. This way the chances of cracking them open is very low then gently open a hole in the skin and suck on it,,,so good. The small pomegranates are more suitable for this than the big ones.
Why not cut them into quarters and chew out the seeds and thin membranous dividers like corn on the cob? Do it over the kitchen sink or a bowl? It is faster, easier and It won't kill you or the taste.
Namaste, Sorry to disturb. I have viewed your informative video on Cold Press Juicer. Nice. I have a query. While making juice of De-Seed of pomegranate in Cold Press Juicer, it's juice is not watery red transparent in colour just like it's few drops coming out at the time of its De Seed. Instead it is purple and slight thicky. Is it normal in Cold Press Juicer ? Can you spare some of your time. Regards.
Monica, there is a variety that can be grown if you are in Southern Utah. Unfortunately, as of right now, there is no variety of pomegranate that is hardy enough to dependably survive (and thrive!) in northern Utah. The variety that will grow in the St. George area is called (somewhat appropriately!) the Utah variety. There is also Russian Red that is touted be able to live in freezing conditions, but reading the fine print, the growers indicate people in the northern zones should grow these in pots and move them indoors during the winter. Not very convenient, but possible to grow pomegranates with some extra effort. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching our video and taking time to write. Best Regards, DFJ
Usually, the juice is sweet with a sour undertone. But, the sourness should be in the background, not the forefront. It sounds like the the fruit was a bit underripe. I hope this helps! Best, DFJ
Do you mean the rinse water? That is used only to float up the membranes to make it easier to separate the arils from the rest of the fruit. The water does not dilute the juice that is contained in the arils because they are sealed. However, if the arils are crushed and water is mixed with the juice, then you will have diluted juice - which I don't think is very tasty. Best, DFJ
Just tried my very first pomegranate......cut it like you said put pods in cold water....drained water out then put a teaspoon of it in my mouth......yuck😢 I threw it all I the garbage.....tasted horrible to me......just my taste 😅
You need to go to Ron Popiel and make a machine that rolls around the pomegranate instead of using your hands I know Ron is dead, but you could still make a machine like that you make a fortune
No the water is ridiculous. Indo Paks love sweet-sour poms of which the juice no way should be diluted with the water. Indo-Paks some good tips here but the water won't be our thing.

In the U.S, typically around the last quarter of the year.
