I’ve had three golden retrievers over the last 50 years and they were all remarkable dogs. My current one, Griffin, is a dufus but has a heart of gold. He would rather eat French fries than steak. He has an incredible nose and can pick out a rock that I throw into the creek. He chases buzzards out of his air space. If he’s not in heaven when I get there, I’d just as soon not go.
@@RetrieverCare I had a Griffin too! He was amazing .. I lost him to Cancer 9 months ago.. he was only 8. I now have a Brady and he’s awesome. Goldens are the best dogs ever.
I had a Golden for 12 years and we still miss Sepp very much. She was sweet and docile and so loving, and the very best friend for my youngest daughter who was born when she was about 6. It still makes me smile when I think of it. They are such beautiful and good dogs. Mine was an English Golden Retriever.
mine died 7 years ago, im pretty sure lived 14 years and im still convinced that he was just a loving old man. like he was the best dog, like i would sit and talk to him and he would look at you like he was listening. no dog will ever replace him, just an amazing dog breed.
I have had 2 golden retierver's. Our first one was Buddy and when he stood on his hind legs he was over 6' tall and weight 90 pounds and about 27" high. Buddy was with us for 8 years and God took him home early. He was very smart, intimidating to strangers lol, but a total gentle loving pup and he always had a smile. Our second golden retriever was Harley. We had Harley almost 13 years and he passed 8/4/2022. He was very very smart, and through training gained "logic" and according to our vet he said this is not normal for a dog to have logic but he said Harley does. I said well I trained him and it is true. He would watch my every move and knew almost intuitively which direction I was going to go. He always had to have his eyes and ears on me it was weird and funny at the same time. He loved games and everybody he met the tail always wagged. They are absolutely perfect family dogs. They listen to everything you say PLUS they listen to the TONE in your voice and even when you don't notice and with Buddy when someone came to the door he didn't know and because he was so big and tall people would watch Buddy while they talked to me and Buddy would just stare at their eyes as if to say...don't mess with my mama LOLOL. But gosh Buddy was a GENTLE GIANT until one day I saw a guy walking past my deck and I opened the sliding glass door a little bit and said: who are you and what are you doing in my yard?? No respone...so I said it again...all of a sudden my sliding door got pushed open and Buddy went flying off the deck skipped the 4 steps to the ground, did a donut on the lawn and froze in place with his eyes on this dude. I said to the guy again ...who are you??? All he could do was freeze in place, stare at Buddy and finally gave me his name. He worked for the Electric Company and I said your friend staring at you his name is Buddy do you want to say hi??? He did and I called Buddy into the house and I was surprised the guy didn't have wet jean's when he left. LOL Needless to say Buddy got hugs, kisses and treats for protecting mama. He was so perfect it was amazing. I apologize for the length of my comment but thought somebody would enjoy it. Goldens are the Best Family dogs plus very protective without a doubt.
I have had 4 retrievers so far in my lifetime but my first retriever was a "flat coat" which are black and usually have a white snipe on thier chest. My first retriever was this flat coat type and she was every bit the same character as a golden and was a constant companion with my 2 young sons. Still miss you Lady , you were a good dog.... as they all are 🙂 My other 3 , 2 have been English and my current is Canadian....all wonderful dogs.
This is really interesting. I have a 1 year and 3 months old female named Kiara, and looking at this description I think she is an American Golden retriever. Her coat is close to a light honey but her mom is really dark, like caramel. I've had 3 dogs before but this is my first Golden and I can testify the energy part, she is much more active than my other dogs and needs tons of exercise. I love her very much ❤
First American Golden Retriever we got for our 13 year old son. Perfect. Lived 13 healthy years. Since then we have had 5 more same breed, and now have the white English cream. They are all absolutely wonderful. This one has a new things she does, if she picks something up in mouth or piece of toy, she comes to me and sits till I remove from mouth. Amazing to me.
Our baby golden is Lucy. She's a Canadian golden and part of our little family. She's a darling so kind loving smart as a whistle and absolutely stunning. She made me a dog mama and lifetime fan and dog lover 🙏❤️
I have a 7 year old american goldy and hes so chilll and the 2 year old British goldy is a nutt case but extremely athletic. Took him on an 8mile hike and he still wanted to go swimming after.
I had a American Golden ❤️for 12 years, he passed away on october 2020 and I’m still very sad..but without Golden I can’t live and now I have an English Cream Golden. They are sweetie‘s; I love Goldens.❤️
Where is a good place to look for getting a Golden? I’m a little worried about getting one from an online Breeder due to some people saying it could be a scam.
As others have mentioned, you left out an important type: field goldens. (I have had 3.) They are a darker gold (usually called "red"). They tend to be a little smaller. Their hair tends to be a different texture - silkier (if that is a word), not as heavy and coarse as a typical American golden. Their coat does a wonderful job of shedding mud and dirt. The head is often more narrow than the broad-headed American golden. They are more active than the average golden, if that is believable. While still incredibly friendly, they tend to be a little more task-oriented than people-oriented when compared to the other types of goldens. Often this is the type of golden that is used for hunting. (These are all generalizations; of course each golden is unique and special.)
We just lost one of our two Golden Retrievers! He was definitely a Field Golden! Wondering where to go for another? I’m in Ohio and have never seen them advertised as Field Retriever. He’s 7 year old brother is definitely missing him!
I just got one, 2nd dog and first Golden, he is a handful, smart, but the chewing stage is way worse than my old dog and I find him very stubborn and independant. I'm hoping he chills out as he grows up.
when the "different" types were being described my thoughts went to this video was describing the difference between working and show lines. While a good video I do think it is a bit misleading. Same thing happens with Labradors with the American or English breed. Nothing more than a marketing ploy for those who don't know what the terms actually are referring to.
@@ramnikTDM conformation lines are show lines while field lines are bred for a working purposes. Conformation lines tend to be bigger, thicker in the body, and less active. Field or working lines tend to be slimmer, have higher prey drives, a desire to do the original function the dog was bred for.

In breeding seems to be happening, maybe because some feel they are trying to eliminate some of the health problems like hip issues and heart cancer and issues with the eyes. Golden Dootles are showing up all over the country, but I still like the real Golden Retrievers.

One type that wasn't mentioned is the Field/Line Golden retriever. It's markedly different with thin hips, smaller size, with a narrower head. Fast as a bullet, I understand that this sub-type was actually closest to the original dog breed developed by Scotland's Lord Tweedmouth in 1868 (not in the 18th century as was stated in the video). Mine has very little if any under coat, but I wonder if that's also a characteristic? Personality-wise he's the classic golden. Smart, humerous antics, silly sometimes, very loyal and completely docile around children. Of all the three Goldens I've owned over the years, he's the most sensitive and loyal. He doesn't wander. He's also the only Field/Line. The other two were female, and of the size of the classic American Golden. Both were wanderers.
My son has one, I'm in Canada so I assume the dog is also. Amazing smart friendly dog. Very affectionate and great with kids. Huge issue is the amount of Dog Hair....omg!
I'm in Canada and mine is British style (I've had 3 Goldens - all British style. I live in Ontario). You never know. The Brits have shorter coats so if your son's dog has a beautiful bushy Golden coat, it's likely an American Golden - typically the kind you see featured in movies/cartoons.
Ive had 2 American golden retrievers but they both died because of age, one of them (the oldest) was named zena and she lived 2 years longer than a normal dog’s lifespan and her bones were so brittle that they ended up breaking when she tried standing up out other dog was named luna and she also died of age and i really miss them both
My Golden, Logan is the sweetest dog that I've ever had he knows when I'm mad and sad and he will calm me down by jumping and licking my face and refuses to leave my side wherever I go that dog is a blessing and was sent to me by Jesus Christ himself, that dog is worth more than my education and worth more than my video games and I love him to the ends of the earth and back.
I really love you videos, they are amazing. I love american golden retriever, and i really wish that i'll get one. Can you do a video with names of golden's?
Why only Canadian, American and English? I live in Australia, what types would we have here? We got our gorgeous boy through a breeder. Love this precious breed.
If we talk about types of retrievers than there are a total of 6 just like we mentioned in this video - ua-cam.com/video/ZHcQmevLtOk/v-deo.html but if we talk about Types of 'Golden' Retrievers than there are only 3 worldwide recognized Golden Retrievers and they are the one's mentioned in this video! The breed you have could be the mix of Australian Shepherd and a Golden Retriever or some other breed.
Our Golden is a pure bred Golden Retriever. Might investigate how they originally came to Aus. I’ve never seen an Australian Shepherd. Not common here. Thx for the reply.
@@AnneMB955 Don't mind the name of the dog. The Labrador Retriever, as an example, is the most popular dog in the world. But obviously, very few actually come from Labrador.
I have had four golden. The first two were for my two daughters. The pups were females from the same litter. Taffy was light gold tall and 112 pounds at a year old no fat just big. Pumpkin was bigger and orange gold. She was 114 pounds at a year old. They maintained their weight through their lives. Taffy died way too young at 5 from cancer. Pumpkin died at 13 from a delivery truck in the driveway. The next retriever was a female for my youngest daughter. Snoopy weighed 75 pounds at 1 year old and stayed at that weight until about 12 years old then she went to 80 pounds until her death at almost 14 years old. The latest golden who is my dog. Kayla at a year old was 100 pounds and the biggest girl of them all! She is a beautiful red and golden color. She is now 4 years old and has lost 4 pounds because we changed her diet a bit because of allergies. She is my best buddy. I have never seen a friendlier dog she loves everyone she meets except squirrels and our yard is full of them they keep her busy. We just had a new brood of them born so there are a lot of them to chase! I hope she never catches one, they would hurt her. She is my wife's lap dog in the evening. Goldin’s are such a joy!
You forgot one! theres another type of golden retriever called fieldgoldens. They are a hunting version of the golden retriever, they are thinner and definetely more energized and have almost a brown/bronze colour :D
Golden retriever is surely a big breed so you are definitely advised to get a car with a huge space so your dog can comfortably travel beside you but when it comes to travelling its generally based on breeds, it basically depends on a particular dog, some dogs do not prefer cars because of their anxiety and carsickness while some dogs just cannot wait to travel like our simba! We're planning on making a detailed video on this topic soon so stay tuned :)
We've had 6. Working out way down the alphabet A Archie - Comically tried to be sneaky when he brought apples in from the back yard. Only dog I ever saw tiptoe (when in the middle of a group of 6 week old puppies) B Bailey - one of the smartest dogs we've had. Trained herself just by watching Archie. Slept on top of me when I would return from week long business trips. C Charlie - personality plus, even for a golden. She was naughty, but never bad. Very affectionate little girl D Dexter - found Dex at the humane society. We were second in line to adopt him, so we didn't think it would happen. It did happen, and it was meant to be. Dex was the MOST Mellow golden we've had. Other Goldens would tell him "dude, you are mellow"!!! He developed seizures, and we finally got him diagnosed and then got the meds he needed E Eddie - got Eddie to help fill the hole when Charlie passed. Eddie is a big, muscular girl with a BIG smile, especially first thing in the morning. Smart F Ferguson - similar story to Eddie. Filling the hole left by Dexter. Same father as Eddie, different mothers. Different types and shapes. Ferguson has pronounced black markings on his rear and hips. Black hair is a recessive gene in goldens, and rarely comes out. Training him to be a canine good citizen. Maybe be a therapy dog ALL great dogs, all different from each other. They add so much to our lives
There are also Comfort Retrievers. Only bred in Kentucky, and the most amazing dogs. Supposed to be “minis” and used as service dogs, diabetic alert dogs etc., but my boy is 75 pounds. 😊
I think that was a joke! 😂 I have a 3 month old Female Golden Retriever and I feel like she’s a land shark right now! 😳 I’m not sure if I have all my toes and fingers at the moment. Lol This is my first Golden Retriever as I have bred Rottweilers for 20 years. She is growing so fast! Does anyone know when they get their thicker coats?

Erm. Not to be rude or anything but this is a total crock. In particular with British Goldens. 1) The British Golden retriever’s eye shape should be almond shaped, not round. 2) The average British Golden Retriever is **significantly** larger than the average American Golden, ranging from 85lbs to 95lbs, and is often much taller at the shoulder. 3) To say that British Goldens are lighter and stockier, with shorter coats is drivel too. There are in fact 3 specific types of Golden over here; working, or field type, show type and dual purpose (which is a careful blend of type 1 & 2.) Working/field type have darker, shorter coats, narrower faces, lighter frames and are **much** higher energy. Show types are lighter coloured, heavier set with broader, bear-like faces and tend towards much thicker and longer coats. Dual purpose types ideally blend the best of each The U.K. Kennel club recognises 3 distinct colours upon puppy registration; cream, golden and dark gold. Comparing Goldens without making a clear distinction between the particular lines (working, show or dual) is like comparing all American men with all British men from one family.
Yes I agree with you. I am from the UK. We have 5 Golden retrievers. One is pure working type. The rest are a mix of show type and working type. They are all lovely and very cuddly. One of our dogs is a big dog for a retriever. He is one year old, about 6 stone in weight and tall. We have always preferred the darker colour of the retriever and none of those we have are cream. The majority are a mid range golden colour. I can also grab them if I lose my balance (I have multiple sclerosis) and they know if I need them to help me. The dogs get spoilt rotten but not to their detriment.
I had one for 12 years, miss him like crazy.. My once in a lifetime friend..

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I will soon start a Golden Retriever training series. :)
Thanks for the comparison!
We're so glad we could be of any help :) Thank you so much!
I really love you videos, they are amazing. I love american golden retriever, and i really wish that i'll get one. Can you do a video with names of golden's?
I LIKE THE MIDDLE ONE
My cousin had the first dog named max he was a American golden retriever I loved that dog and I use to have a English terrier
Which one of the three is the biggest???
Yo mama
I have a golden retriever in black...may i know his features..
All are great. I prefer the English cream. Or Bittish in this video.
Good choice but every breed is beautiful in its own way :)
I never know if my 3 months old golden retriever if a purebred or mix
It is the first time I know there are 3 types of Golden Retrieverd!!!
We're glad we could help you :)
So which one is your golden retriever
Simba
How about the zippidee and care bear lines?
I didn't have any puppys but i love them so much
I didn't have any puppys but love i them so much
Are there differences in the behaviour of the 3 types?
I have a Canadian golden retriever rn I know hes a Canadian because both of his parents are Canadian too it is in their pedigree
You forgot one! theres another type of golden retriever called fieldgoldens. They are a hunting version of the golden retriever, they are thinner and definetely more energized and have almost a brown/bronze colour :D
Yes!! I have one ☝️
@@gloriamata5932 Woww! You are so lucky! They are gorgous and incredibly smart dogs! What's its name? ^^
@@irisflower9316 actually I have 3 GR one it’s Kanzas,(field golden) Kovid (American golden) and Korona ( Englis-American golden) 😁 I love them 😍
@@gloriamata5932 wowww those names are beautiful! I bet you must have put in soo much effort in their training considering they are high energy dogs!
Yes our GR is a Field type
There is also GR bred for show and GR bred for hunting
Can you make a video of a daily schedule fo GR that you do for your Goldie
Yeah sure. Thanks for the suggestion!
Are family travels a lot that’s why we can’t get a goldy do you have any advice for traveling.
We are selling 7 of our puppies for half the price due to a capacity issue.
Please contact us if you’re searching for a puppy
We've had 6.
Working out way down the alphabet
A
Archie - Comically tried to be sneaky when he brought apples in from the back yard. Only dog I ever saw tiptoe (when in the middle of a group of 6 week old puppies)
B
Bailey - one of the smartest dogs we've had. Trained herself just by watching Archie. Slept on top of me when I would return from week long business trips.
C
Charlie - personality plus, even for a golden. She was naughty, but never bad. Very affectionate little girl
D
Dexter - found Dex at the humane society. We were second in line to adopt him, so we didn't think it would happen. It did happen, and it was meant to be. Dex was the MOST Mellow golden we've had. Other Goldens would tell him "dude, you are mellow"!!! He developed seizures, and we finally got him diagnosed and then got the meds he needed
E
Eddie - got Eddie to help fill the hole when Charlie passed. Eddie is a big, muscular girl with a BIG smile, especially first thing in the morning. Smart
F
Ferguson - similar story to Eddie. Filling the hole left by Dexter. Same father as Eddie, different mothers. Different types and shapes. Ferguson has pronounced black markings on his rear and hips. Black hair is a recessive gene in goldens, and rarely comes out. Training him to be a canine good citizen. Maybe be a therapy dog
ALL great dogs, all different from each other. They add so much to our lives
Are all the goldy have long chest fur bro ? I just adopted one
@@boskiboski1025
Some more than others
Best I can do. Not much help
They are ALL different
I have none of them, I love them all. ❤️❤️😘😘😍😍😍😍

tucker budzyen is which type from these 3 versions you mentioned?
i think it american?
Thanks a lot I got to know mine is a candian golden retriever and I love him loads weather of his any type !! 😊 thnks a lot 👍
My simba is an American Golden Retriever and I love him as well whether of his any type :)
British Golden Retriever ❤️❤️❤️
Oh that's amazing.
There are also Comfort Retrievers. Only bred in Kentucky, and the most amazing dogs. Supposed to be “minis” and used as service dogs, diabetic alert dogs etc., but my boy is 75 pounds. 😊
Doodles and Comfort Retrievers are cross breeds though. Yours probably got more of the Golden genetics than the Cocker genetics based on the size.
Mine is the..foodie one..the foodie one yes.
Haha All Golden Retrievers love to eat, no matter which type ;)
Unfortunately you missed the type that I have: The Great White Shark Golden Retriever.
Apparently there are only 3 known Golden Retrievers till date but yours little sharkie surely seems rare ;)
This is the type I have for sure.
Thank god it's not just us. Way mouthier than the Dobes I raised and grew up with. Holy moly. But thankfully also sweet and smart.
@@kldawson53 They are absolutely the best
Are there any health differences in these types?
Noop, not really.
I think my golden might be Canadian or a mix between all of them
There are 3 types of Golden Retrievers? I’ll take one of each to complete the collection.
I have an English cream. He’s such a handsome boy and jeez Louise is obsessed with my kid.
l want to get a canadian golden retriever but i don't know which puppy is a canadian because most of all golden retirever puppys look the same!
WHEN YOUR DOWN ON YOUR LUCKY FOUR LEAF ☘ ON ST PATRICK'S DAY AND LISTENING TO STAN WALKER AND ED SHEARAN ON THE JUKE BOX..SUPPORTER'S SPRITE AND COCA-COLA AND BANGER'S AND MASH
I've the white one her name is freya❤ and I love her .....
There are in fact 3 specific types of Golden over here; working, or field type, show type and dual purpose (which is a careful blend of type 1 & 2.)
Working/field type have darker, shorter coats, narrower faces, lighter frames and are **much** higher energy.
Show types are lighter coloured, heavier set with broader, bear-like faces and tend towards much thicker and longer coats.
Dual purpose types ideally blend the best of each
The U.K.
I have a British golden retriever as in number 2 - because I’m in England so mine is the original Scottish type.
Love my golden girl…they do require a lot of maintenance. 😀😂🐾
I think whatever golden retriever I got is perfect
I WOULD PICK NR 2 AND 3
I have a German shepherd mix with a golden retriever
Which golden retriever do you have @retriever care
I don't have a golden, so I'll take one each, please! Thank you!
Haha they are all so beautiful :)
So beautiful golden my dolden girl 14.5 years old pass way 9.11.2022.
Well, now I know that my dog is British golden retriever
Haha that's great!
