According to a few people who were close to Nolan Bushnell, the pizza at that store was not very good. In 1978, Ted Dabney (whom co-founded Atari in 1972 and left in early 1973) went to the first Pizza Time Theatre and afterwards gave Nolan a less than stellar review saying "It was dirty and loud. There was children screaming and when there wasn't, the video arcade machines threatened to drown the kids out. I had no idea when my pizza was ready until I went to the counter and finally got it. I took it to my table to try and it was not very good." Nolan said he could take care of the cleanliness part, but the noise was a major part of the place and was just kids having fun. As for the pizza, Nolan didn't care how good or bad it was. He wasn't in it for the pizza. He wanted kids pumping quarters into the video game machines. In the footage, there seems to be people downing the pizza okay so maybe it wasn't as bad. Who knows?
This was incredible to watch. I can't believe just years ago we thought we'd never have Winchester footage yet here we are. The feeling of discovering old media thought to be lost is amazing, and I can't wait to see what other CEC stuff gets potentially uncovered in the future. Also I never realized the games were in little rooms like that. The first store looks like it really was tiny (also super 70s) Plus it's kind of interesting to see how the 2nd gen 70s animatronics moved livelier than the later ones. And they kept Crusty even after Munch was made? Wow!

I think it be cool to shed some light on the later history of the Winchester store
I always wondered how the standard cyberamics (Because the portrait bots are also considered to be cybers as well) looked in Winchester. Especially with the store's unique layout, I wonder if they put the bots in the exact same place as before. Or if they remodeled the store to have a shelf setup
If we could find any info whatsoever we would love to share it. Honestly all we have in the archives is the auction notice from the newspaper when it closed. When we licensed this footage we got it sight-unseen and I had a sinking feeling it was going to be footage of regular cybers and not the latex/fiberglass ones. Thankfully they hadn’t swapped them out yet when this was filmed.
Would this mean there was a cyberamic Crusty? In my opinion, probably not, because when they got the cyberamics they would have also gotten Munch in place of him. But it depends, especially if you look at how long they would’ve wanted to have Crusty there before giving him the boot and making way for Munch.
They apparently received a cyberamic potrait stage in 1981, and the king some time after the cyberamics, the first guest star was most likely Harmony howlette followed by madame oink and broadway helen henny
I was wondering if you could try to restore the same 1979 Kooser Rd footage (the earliest footage of Mr. Munch and Reddy-like Helen Henny) in 4K as well? (if you guys do have one)
We’ve known about this footage for around 10 years now, as it was listed in an old company newsletter that we obtained in 2012. CEC Master did a lot of the footwork in contacting ABC to secure this clip (other fans had tried previously but ABC had not digitized their archives that far back at the time). But once he discovered they had it available in digital form he sent the info to us and we paid for the public license for the clip - sight unseen as all we had was a vague transcript with time stamps. Could have been a hundreds of dollars bust because there was no solid indication it included portrait footage. Thankfully it paid off! 😅

According to many of Nolan Bushnell's colleagues, yes. It really was that awful. Even Nolan himself knew it was awful. He made it bad on purpose so customers wouldn't buy the pizza but instead would pump quarters into the Atari and Exidy arcade machines
Crusty wasn't removed from the store til they upgraded til regular cyberamics. So he was still there even though Munch took his place in other locations...
0:52 1000 stores? I wonder how possible that was, apparently they thought the novelty of singing animals and video games was enough to being people back at least 3 times a month
According to many of Nolan Bushnell's colleagues (including several Atari employees who were there on opening day. And even Ted Dabney circa 1978), the pizza looked much better than it actually tasted. It was not very good. Even Nolan himself knew this. He made the pizza semi inedible on purpose so more customers would pump quarters into the video games instead. One trick he learned working at Amusement Parks, make sure the food is twice the price and mediocre at best. If you have affordable food that's good at an Amusement Park, it will take away from the rides, games and attractions. Having said that, maybe the pizza wasn't as bad as Nolan's colleagues made it out to be. I mean... you do see at least a few customers downing it okay in the clips.

I wonder how weird it would be to have somewhat of a retro store, based off of pasqually. A real Pasquallys pizza and wings with maybe a studio C style pasqually retrofit.
It was Topaz Video AI, and a combination of a few different models cut together. Some models looked better on the portraits and background footage (while the close-ups of Gene looked a little overly textured in an unnatural way), so we just cut together the best views from a couple of upscales.

It says 1979, Crusty was only around until 1978, so why is Crusty still here
Crusty wasn't removed from the store til they upgraded til regular cyberamics. So he was still there even though Munch took his place in other locations...
Crusty was removed in 1980
0:52 1000 stores? I wonder how possible that was, apparently they thought the novelty of singing animals and video games was enough to being people back at least 3 times a month
MAN Those Pizza's looked Amazing!
I know!
I always wondered why Jaspers eye and Pasqually are different from Chuck e and crusty
Because Chuck E and Crusty are Updated versions
why does jasperds hand look like that?
Firework accident?
@@showbizpizzacomI think the reason why Jasper's hand looks like that is because that hand fall down because he used to have a real banjo so that's why his hand looks like a hook for some odd reason
Those teens working the kitchen are in their 60s now
I just love this footage 🥰 so cool.
I love their attuides and character
“In 10 years, Chuck E Cheese will be more popular than Mickey Mouse”
How do we tell him?
I was looking for this comment lol
Does anyone have any info on the game being played at 6:19 ? I tried looking up every combo of Mach on Google and couldnt find anything, it looks like an analog game
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-1_(arcade_game) I belive this is it I might be wrong tho
The Arcade Game is F-1
Damn i wish we had something like that here im Brazil
We already got It, not so good but we had chIcO cheese, yeah, sad
I wonder how weird it would be to have somewhat of a retro store, based off of pasqually. A real Pasquallys pizza and wings with maybe a studio C style pasqually retrofit.
The pizza guy is the foxy of this place.
This looks great! What software did you use to upscale it?
It was Topaz Video AI, and a combination of a few different models cut together. Some models looked better on the portraits and background footage (while the close-ups of Gene looked a little overly textured in an unnatural way), so we just cut together the best views from a couple of upscales.
Nice!! Topaz is generally the best I've found, but that's really cool you cut a few different models together! It looks phenomenal.
This is a Master piece
I can see the details i didn't see before around the location
Also I can’t wait for my animatronic I’m makeing🎉
does anyone know what the animatronics are saying in the showtape i guess i mean i know the crusty version of the showtape is lost and all
"are you comparing this to frank sinatra?"
"oh hah well no, i wouldnt call sinatra an animal, haha"
THE REPORTER DID NOT CATCH THAT WHIP CRACKINGLY SLICK COMEBACK
This is so nice! Now i can see a lil more now!.”
im from italy and i love so much chuck e cheese but ive never been in one
I don't know about the "going strong" part, but great restoration
They were never able to restore them and so this footage is when they were working
I can’t wait!
Question how tall is Chuck since you guys have the real one because I’m trying to make a replica of chuck
This is smoother than real life itself
