I had a 99 just like this. That thing was a tank. Only problem I ever had with it was back brakes, of course, and the button shift went out after a couple of washes and had to be replaced at around 2k miles. These are some of the best ever made.
Doing basically the same thing with a TRX500FA Rubicon that I just purchased. Great running bike, no cut wires anywhere, and nothing has been "rigged up" to keep it going over the years, either. Low mileage on yours. Good video.

If you still have it, there's an aftermarket harness that bypasses the ECU, and works like a charm... takes about 15 minutes to install.

Where did you purchase the LCD polarizing film. I have a 2001 Honda Foreman 450ES, and am having the same problem with the display.
I looked on Amazon and found it in sheets. Worked well!
