Carb on my Honda foreman 400 just started having issues after sitting most of the long winter. Thanks for this video. Got it up and running great in no time.
I have been rebuilding my carb collection for my hondas lately, I use a wire toothbrush to shine up and clean each and every jet, and I have a set of spray gun cleaner brushes I got from harbor frei g ht that work wonder on all the various orfices and channels, I strip the carbs down, remove any built up crud with wire toothbrush and or dremel tool with the appropriate attachment brushes, dunk er in my hydronic cleaner for two 35 minute cycles, remove, spray it all off with carb spray then reassemble, just did my two reds as well as my buddies, they run amazing!
Very good, well detailed video. I'm glad you stated at the end that you had to end up buying a rebuild kit. Whether or not it's needed, it's good insurance.
sounds like the needle might be stuck in the seat, or the float is stuck and not allowing fuel into the float bowl.... give the float bowl a knock or 2 with the butt end of a screw driver.. sometimes that will unstick stuff.
to fix the issue I had with this carb, not necessarily, I think the one that was split was just drain line for the float bowl But If its causing a fuel leak... then yep.. fix that guy too :)
Hard to say... but if its cutting out and stumbles when you "top out" so to speak.. its very well possible. That could be signs of running out of fuel however, it could also be ignition.
Is the slow idle speed jet the only jet that you need to put in a certain amount of turns? The rest of the jets are just like a screw, go in until its snug?
Yes on this one, you are correct. Since no 2 carburetors are the same I always go with, if it looks like its adjustable, go in before you go out, so you know where to set it back. If its not, its not going to go in that is unless its frozen... then go out :) Hope this helps :)
@@Yellowdogsworld project completed. Thanks for the video. This was the first time I attempted at fixing a carburetor and followed your video to do it. Works like a charm and purrs like a kitten!!!!
Cleaning it did fix the running issue, however it did need a new float bowl gasket since the original one did not seal back up,,, its was just too old.
Yellowdog02 now my problem is the little lack rubber plug. I purchased a kit that came with everything but that.. the top ripped off while trying to remove it
I looked back in the video to see what plug you were referring too, it shows it being part of the kit i listed at the end of the video, if it didn't come with it that's not a good thing. It may be a part you just cant get anymore. partzilla.com is where i go for OEM Honda parts, if you cant find it there, i doubt a dealers going to do you much good either. Best of luck, hope you can get it figured out...
Yellowdog02 yeah the ethanol attracts water terrible and that causes all that corrosion. Plus on the older stuff, the fuel lines break down from the inside causing all sorts of issues. I've had to change all my fuel lines.
😊 Thanks for the correction on the needle valve. I'm not surprised i missed a jet, I'm not a professional as you pointed out. This was not meant as the Be-all and end-all how to, just a guy helping out a friend and sharing the information.
Mopar penintrating fluid is the best carb cleaner ever , spray it into a little jar and let yer parts soak in it and it will clean them like you never seen before , reg carb cleaner is garbage
You dont have any idea how to clean the carbureator. First, you have to clean outside. Then, you dont have to use a steal brush. STOP DO TOTURIAL VIDEOS.

Well done video, very detailed. Thank you!

need help replacing heater assembly connected to carb,,,hard to get to ,, no space fpr wrench thx
i noticed the rubber hoses were split should they be replaced ?

I have the same quad and it wont go over 30-35 would it be those jets clogged?

Did the cleaning by itself work?

Just needs a good cleaning.Nail polish remover/acetone is good for cleaning that but...some plastics are sensitive to it so dry them quickly.
Thanks for the tip!
What year is your bike
The Machine this carb came off of was a 2003 Foreman.
StarTron is what I use in all my small engines and my outboards. It solves the issues with the ethanol.
I agree, especially If your machine has any amount of set up time you just about have to use some sort of stabilizer else you get these problems.

My town has gas stations that offer non ethanol
We have a few stations with Non-E as well, the price is sometime cost prohibitive.
450 Forman ? They have a 500
Man that ethanol really does a number on carburetors, every spring my Dads quad won’t run for some reason. Maybe it’s the gas he didn’t drain AGAIN
Yep, the sad part is the same Carb on the same ATV is acting up again, Oh well :)
Ultrasonic washer is what it needed too soak in before reassembly,
That's a tool on my list of things id like too have. :)
Looks identical to the one on my 97 Foreman 450
I'm not a Honda expert by any means, but other than some small variations I don't think they changed much for several years.
Amateur hour. Needle valve tip ceramic??? Try neoprene. He also missed the other small jet on the side.
😊 Thanks for the correction on the needle valve. I'm not surprised i missed a jet, I'm not a professional as you pointed out. This was not meant as the Be-all and end-all how to, just a guy helping out a friend and sharing the information.
A quality carb kits are $15 if anyone is wondering
Yep,, a lot cheaper than a whole carb 😊
You can bye the whole carburetor for $35.00....Save time and money !!!!
For used not brand new
Mopar penintrating fluid is the best carb cleaner ever , spray it into a little jar and let yer parts soak in it and it will clean them like you never seen before , reg carb cleaner is garbage
I never use ethanol gas in my 2004 honda 450 es, and never will

Thanks for the tips! :) I "stop Do" video now.
