Fifty years ago, Castleton was a fabulous village and I worked as second head waiter when it had a proper silver service restaurant. It used to have real villagers and it was peaceful. Today it's a playground for chavs with all the holiday lets. We used to drive up Mam Tor Road and I don't recall anybody using Winnats Pass. Its silly using that because most drivers don't have the skills to be able to manage their vehicles today.
Love all your videos only been subscribed for about month got recommended by butlers empire when you guys were on there channel and so glad to found you guys you both are amazing
We love Castleton and you went in one of favourite pubs, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Castleton. Peveril Castle is well worth a visit, great views, and the Devil's Arse. We drove up Winnats Pass in a borrowed Bailey Autograph 75-4. It was early morning. Best avoided in a motorhome.
I came over Winnats Pass last week in the dark in the thickest fog ever, in a smart car that struggled as its a Smart ForFour and we had five onboard! So your vid was nice to see what I missed
Great video. Went last summer & stayed at the Caravan & motorhome site. It was recommended as we wanted a site near a town or village with plenty of pubs. We loved it. We also stayed at Hawes too for the same reason.
Thank you for the amazing ed ideo. It brought back some amazing memories. I had picked up my then girlfriend at Birmingham Airport, then by train to Sheffield. There I picked up my carcand drove her to Castleton. We stayed at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in a 4-poster bed. We had an amazing time there. Of course we did travel through Winnat's Pass.
Hi Mick, we are overjoyed to hear that our video bought you back amazing memories. Castleton is fantastic, we really enjoyed it there. Don’t forget to subscribe to our channel if you haven’t already!
I gone up that this morning on way to Stoke from Sheffield. I never been to Castleton before, never heard of this pass. I was in a 7.5t wagon going up it empty with my back wheels spinning in the dry
@@NorthernersonTour How I’d absolutely love to be overseas! Lol 😂 No, sadly I am working and spending time with the kids and family. I’ll be on the road again very soon though and would love to bump into you guys out there somewhere! Sticker swaps!!! I am almost certain that I walked past you guys at last year’s Stratford overlander!?,,, will you be there at the weekend? I’m tempted to go…. 🤔 xx
Absolutely love Castleton , go every year there and the pubs are lovely there too. Keep saying every time I’m gonna buy some blue John but never do, hopefully this year I might actually get some. Did you go in the old man’s junk shop he is hilarious and the signs he has in there are so funny xx
When we went to the Baha in our Motorhome the roads were so narrow , lots of 18 wheelers 2nd. Day into our trip our side mirror on the ,motorhome got knocked off. Nerve wracking🌺
First time we did Winnats in the van we stopped on the cattle grid to make sure the mirrors went through and ended up with the wheels spinning. See you in York in a few hours.
We nearly had the side of the motorhome taken out by 2 van when we were coming down Winnats pass that weekend. I’d have died if that bus was coming down as we were going up. Was a fantastic weekend.
Castleton is so handy for us with it only being 14 miles from us....but having to avoid winnats pass puts another 10 miles on the trip....its hard to beat the pubs there.
