“Just hopping in the car and going” is absolutely the best way to experience the UK. Throughout your stay here, your enthusiasm for exploring and seeing the real UK has been so refreshing.
If you'd have stopped in Bakewell gone for a walk had a cup of tea and the famous Bakewell tart you would have looked around its so pretty. Matlock is famous for bikers and in the summer is so busy..did you park up and get out and look around? Peak District is so beautiful..
@@helenab7390 Does Every Cafe/ Tea Room etc, serve Bakewell Tarts? I Love them & i'm from Devon 🤘
@timhannah4 there's a few The original Shop is there that serves The pudding version..yu.
“Just hopping in the car and going” is absolutely the best way to experience the UK."
I've been all over the UK in the last 40 or so years (holidaying, walking, hiking, etc.) and have never used a car, except for the odd hitch or cab ride.
It has done us well so far. And we do plan on doing that quite a bit with our time left and when we return to America. Cheers, Chris
I feel so spoilt living 20miles away from the Peak District ❤ it’s great to hear the gasps of our American cousins enjoying the beauty of our country xx much love guys
It's so true but despite it being on my doorstep too I stand open mouthed at some of the scenery
Me too I live within an hours drive from here, Bakewell is a town a lovely town.
Same. I'm about 7 miles from the Peak District on the northern edge of Sheffield. I drive through Bradfield and out to the Derwent Valley on a regular basis
We are glad we can visit, living there or close must be amazing. Cheers, Chris
You have seen more of this country in a few months than I have in the last 10 years. What a lovely adventure into Derbyshire and a reminder what’s on our doorstep!!
Ray,
This adventure, though the UK, had been so amazing, and being able to share it with everyone has been a pure joy. We really love having you come along with us all the days you do. We hope you have an amazing weekend, friend! 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Congrats - so few tourists from abroad ever leave London, let alone get to the countryside!
They are not tourists.
@@JC-gm3zs Really? What are they then?
@@ridley8340 They've been living in England for the last 10 months.
@@JC-gm3zs That's a fair point, but unless they live locally then they are still tourists, same applies for all of us.
Definition of tourist "a person who is travelling or visiting a place for pleasure."
We do live in England currently, however, we do tour as much as we can around the country. Cheers, Chris
I can't tell you how much it warms my heart to see and hear you enjoy your visit to England. I lived in the Peak District for 15 years and I miss it!
Friend, thank you. We love exploring and see all we can. 🤍 Jess x
Watching these videos through the Peak District makes me appreciate where I live, that route through Matlock to my work in Darley Dale and even into Bakewell and Chatsworth I just take for granted. This is my home and has been all my life, 36 years in the same place, it’s nice to be reminded how lucky we are!!!
We appreciate your time sharing with us. We definitely love the Peak District and what it has to offer. Well, to be honest, we love the UK! 🤍 Jess x
I lived in Macclesfield & Congleton 1975-2002, and have fond memories of the beautiful Peak District Now I live in Herefordshire by the Welsh border, also spectacularly beautiful and not a day passes when I dont feel blessed to live here.
Same here, I live not too far away in a similar village, and was born here. I take it for granted, and it makes me feel happier to see someone appreciating it, seeing it with fresh eyes so to speak.
@@CowmanUKme too 60 yrs born and bred here. Disgusted govt want to move high peak into greater Manchester
Love this. You're literally in my backyard and despite knowing every turn you took, it was wonderful seeing it through your eyes.
Glad to show it through a different lens. Cheers, Chris
New subscriber to your channel. I'm from north east England near Durham. Your enthusiasm for our country has blown me away and made me realise how much we take for granted our history and beautiful building's what we get to see every day just going about our day to day business. So glad to hear people have been welcoming to your family. Best wishes 🏴🇬🇧🇺🇲
Welcome, we have enjoyed our time while we have been here. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers, Chris
You should have turned right in centre of Matlock roundabout over river bridge. Then 3 miles along riverside road into Matlock Bath.
You missed the most stunning and scenic part lit up with shops and arcades within the valley. Plus the riverside walk and illuminations.
😂 As they got to the roundabout i was screeming "turn right... turn right!!"
and cable car, caves and a tower!
riber castle obviously swayed their decision
I would say they saw about 10% of the area. Even missed most of Bakewell.
You should visit Hartington and Monyash if you get the chance.
Yes the Peak District is absolutely stunning.❤
It really is! Cheers, Chris
the beauty of the uk is you can walk anywhere, so many footpaths through beautiful scenery
It is an incredible place. Cheers, Chris
Well this time, your travels took you to an area I know quite well! Big rap for getting to Monsal Head - a lot of tourists passing through miss that great viewpoint! And you picked a really good walk there. But even MORE congratulations for making that BIG climb back up from the Wye, after you went under the viaduct! You and Chris are clearly pretty fit - that climb always used to crease me, even when I could do a lot of walking!
SO many lovely villages and views and rivers and caves and landscapes in such a small area round there. The stone used for building is lovely, isn't it? And history - I mentioned Eyam just up the road, and their massive sacrifice, once before. And that viaduct carries the Monsal Trail, an old railway between Bakewell and Buxton now a walking, riding and cycleway. Shame Chatsworth was shut, although I suspect you were very short on time anyway? But even just the landscape round there is lovely.
As always, what makes your videos so interesting is the time you spend just seeing and explaining the "ordinary" countryside, not just rushing through the big tourist traps. That was lovely, and brought back lots of memories. Please try to get back that way again before you leave, and maybe a bit further into the park as the days get longer? SO much more yet to see, that I am sure you would love. Thank you!
Adrian,
Friend, it was such a lovely experience, and I agree so much to do in such a short distance from each area. The walk down and but up was very good. We love just getting out and seeing what we can explore and experience. It is all so enchanting to us.
I was a bummer that it was closed, but we will definitely be back, and hopefully, we can pay a visit to Chatsworth. With the days being so short, we try and get out early and see all we can and just live in the moment.
The landscape is just so magical by itself. It's always so lovely to know we can bring back wonderful memories for you. It's such a joy to share our fun adventures with you all. We truly appreciate your time
I did want to let you know we made a donation to the local animal rescue. Unfortunately, we couldn't video the donation, but please know it was for you and your wife as required. 🤍 Jess & family x
Thank you for showing me more of my own country. Your enthusiasm was heart warming. Please come back again and explore more of my wonderful country.
Of course. Cheers, Chris
You guys have no idea how much your vlogs nourish my soul. The places you have visited in my country have just served to make me realise that despite my 51yrs as a native there's still so much I haven't seen! The Peak District is seen by some as a poor relation of the Lake District, but for me, both are stunning. Happy 2025 to you both & your family.
It's no poor relation, It's equal and vast
The Peak District is its own kind of stunning and I've visited and walked in most of the UKs national parks. Each have their own charms.
Well that means a lot that we can mean that much to you. We enjoy going places and seeing things, the fact that it means something to others is amazing. Cheers, Chris
I have lived and worked in the Peak District area my whole life, it’s something you take for granted to be honest and it’s only watching videos like this and seeing people react to the rugged beauty etc it wakes me up to the reality of how lucky I am to live where I do.
Very true. We have enjoyed our time here and will continue while we are here. Cheers, Chris
@ glad you’ve enjoyed your stay here in the U.K..
I have family over in the USA, namely loma linda and Lake Elsinore in California.
I love it there, world love to move to the USA one day, as much as I love the U.K. I would love the change and the experience
When you went through Matlock if you'd turned right at the roundabout it would have taken you through Matlock bath. You were ten minutes from where I live. Amazing video's, thank you.
Maybe next time. Sounds like a great place. Cheers, Chris
Yes Matlock bath STUNNING and you was one turn and about a mile away ,you missed a treat with its ski lift and stunning cliffs with the river flowing through the valley . Go back next year and TURN RIGHT !
Next time we will try for that. Cheers, Chris
You missed Matlock Bath out when you drove straight through the town centre. Its like a little inland seaside resort by the river with a cable car and attractions. It gets very busy in the summer at weekends with tourists and motorbikers. The big castle/house on the hill is Riber Castle. At one time it was home to a wildlife park which I visited a few times as a child but has now been converted into luxury apartments. Being not too far from Sheffield where I live I've visited all of these places but there's a lot more to discover like Castleton & the Hope Valley.
They missed loads of lovely places I'm only 12 miles from all these places
Unfortunately, there is only so much time in a day, but thankfully, we will be returning to the area to explore even more. We love driving we're Americans 😉..
We appreciate you all sharing places we missed. Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
Hi, I love how much you truly love and appreciate our green and pleasant land! England and the rest of the UK is beautiful and I'm very proud of it.😊
It is a great place to live and visit. Cheers, Chris
Yet another masterpiece of a video log of you journey to the Peak District, a location I call home (for me the border area of East Cheshire & Derbyshire) I say this each time but you continue to excel yourselves in the scope of your hikes & the presentation of this video. Whenever I watch you guys, it’s always with a smile on my face & consider yourselves honorary Brits as you continue to embrace our history, culture & society. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the hard work involved in reminding us what a beautiful country we live in. With love & the best of wishes at Christmas time ❤️🤗👍🏽
We are glad that you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching, commenting and understanding the hard work behind the scene to bring it to life. Cheers, Chris
I’m super blessed, as you say, to live in The Peak District and it’s lovely to see familiar sights through your eyes. Thank you for showing our beautiful part of the world to everyone.
Our pleasure. Cheers, Chris
So chuffed that you enjoyed your time in the Peak District so much! . Not sure if you got on to the deck of the Headstone viaduct, or had a wander through any of the tunnels, but probably not if you were only there for an hour or so. Even when Chatsworth house and gardens are closed, you can still enjoy the huge park that surrounds it, filled with deer, lots of walks, the river and impossibly pretty villages like Edensor. All with great views of the house. I'm sure you'll be here again one day ;) All the towns and villages you drove through are so familiar and I'm always so pleased to see how little they have changed in the past few decades. As ever, thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
You are right, we only had so much time to do what we wanted. We know there was so much more, but maybe we will be able to make another trip there. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for not just going to London. The North has so much to offer and the fact you visited...it feels like a compliment and you two just seem like you deserve to happy. And a little FYI, swans are nearly always friendly, even with babies in the spring. You'd have to go out of your way to annoy one to have any issues. There's basically no dangerous animals in the UK other than someone's badly behaved dog or a field with a single bull in (if there's a few bulls it's fine and they might be a bit playful, but they are just being friendly). I guess an adder could bite you but that would be newsworthy.
The houses "fitting in" is a big thing. Depending on where you live, the rules can get super strict. Some places will make you consult to change the colour of your door, but it's only really like that in certain countryside areas.
Thanks for the kind words. We do truly appreciate it. We do go to London and the bigger places from time to time, but we would prefer the smaller, and arguably better places to go. Cheers, Chris
We have danger in the UK. Remember Southport?
I must say, I've never heard someone so excited over a stream lol 😂
you haven't heard me then,😉🤣 I just love our countries beauty.
Lol you say that but there's people somewhere saying "I've never heard someone so excited to see a desert" whereas that would blow my mind! 😂
I,ve never heard of some one getting excited over a viaduct aswell.
We enjoy all the things we can. Even if it is just a stream. Cheers, Chris
Hiya Jess and Chris, the warmth and happiness that your channel brings is beyond my ability to truly thank you properly my friends.❤️ This was off the scale incredible and that must be the best £1.50 value for money car park ever. 😊. Those slippery bloopers added on was a nice touch. 😊. Thanks again for ending my Saturday on a high my friends.
Have a good Sunday and look forward to seeing you again later in the week.. xx ❤🇺🇸
Stephen,
We're so touched that we can bring joy to you. We definitely try to bring happiness and laughter to those who come with us on our fun adventures each week. It's such a blessing to have such a beautiful community.
Love, it was the best £1.50 spent! We love getting out and just enjoying live to its fullest.
I am so thankful you enjoyed the Bloopers at the end. I laughed so hard I cried. Chris and I definitely have different ways of being worried about each other.
It was so slippery but oh, so fun! We really appreciate each and every time you come with us on all of our adventures.
Also, friend coming up soon, you will have been a member of DDB for 1 years! We definitely love and appreciate all your support and kindness.

It's heart warming to me that two people from a country with as much wide open spaces filled with natural beauty as you two, can still be bowled over by how lovely our Country is (I am particularly biased towards the North of England, being a Yorkshireman). Great video!
Oh, friend, thank you for your kindness. We have loved our time here and experienced this beautiful slice of heaven. We definitely appreciate what this beautiful island has to offer in such a compact space. We appreciate the time you shared with us. 🤍 Jess x
Just down the road from Matlock is Cromford (a key starting place of the Industrial Revolution and World Heritage Site), then Belper (a historic mill town twinned with Pawtucket, Rhode Island because Samuel Slater "Father of the American Factory System" grew up in Belper then emigrated to RI).
Sounds like some good places to check out. Maybe we can make another trip. Cheers, Chris
You have chosen one of many stunning places locked back in time I used to live in the village of Eyam about 5 miles from Monsal .This area is chock full of history and beauty. The Peaks are amazing
Especially the plague history
@@Snarnler I was the village newsagent in the 70s . A local chap called Clarence Daniels wrote books about the plague I sold them in my shop .My shop was built in 1667
It was an amazing place. Cheers, Chris
Good morning both of you. I think for scenery this has got to be your best video yet! Also I love how you react to the things you see with such enthusiasm Jess. It's like I'm seeing these things for the first time when in actual fact it's all too familiar. Thank you both for your content xx
Now and again, when I drive into where I live from the main road, I have to remind myself to look at it properly as it's too easy to grow used to view of your home patch.
We are glad to bring you the video and perspective, if for nothing else to help appreciate what is all around us. Cheers, Chris
You really missed the best part of Matlock. Should have turned right at the roundabout to Matlock Bath. Really appreciate your enthusiasm as this has always been on my doorstep
Thank you. We will definitely be returning to the area to explore even more. We appreciate your time. Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
Beautiful England 🏴❤️
Indeed. Cheers, Chris
British 🇬🇧 and drove around roads and villages like this most of my life, including the Peaks. But something about hearing some foreign musings as you guys travel around that is really nice.
Oh, thank you. We love having you along with us for all our fun adventures. 🤍 Jess x
Absolutely adore your appreciation of our lovely countryside. It has made me appreciate it more myself. ❤️
We are glad to hear it. Cheers, Chris
2:13 it took me before I was 100% where you were.
I grew up about ten miles from there, and every week, we’d just do car trips out and you’d never run out of finding new places.
Immensely lucky to have it in my back yard. I’m just glad I realised that, early.
Otherwise it would’ve passed me by as ‘endless walking up another hill’
and I wouldn’t feel so passionate now still at my age.
You're very lucky, my friend! We definitely love getting out and exploring this beautiful island. Thanks for sharing your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
Love the footage guys... Although i was hoping that as you headed towards Matlock... You might drive to the right at the roundabout and visit Matlock Bath... It's a wonderful part of Derbyshire that's almost like an inland seaside town... It has several Fish & Chip Shops... Amusement Arcades... Pubs... Restaurants... Museums... Ice Cream Shops... Motorbike Accessory Store... Picturesque Walking Trails... River Boat Hire... And even a Cable Car that goes up to the Heights of Abraham... It also has a children's mini Theme Park called Gulliver's Kingdom too.
It's a great place to visit... And during the summer months it's a mecca for motor bikers... It's where i would ride to with my other biker friends many years ago... Every year they also have an evening event where illuminated boats travel down the River Derwent... As well as Matlock Bath having it's own town illuminations too... You can find many videos on here of Matlock Bath... Where you can see all of the different things that they have on offer for visitors to see and do... Many thanks for the video Chris & Jess... It's very much appreciated... All the very best... Cheers guys. 🍺

I've lived in and around Bakewell, Hope valley all my life (60 years) and it still blows my mind as to how stunning the country side is around here. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in England.
It's so beautiful here and this island has so many beautiful places waiting for an adventure! We appreciate your kindness and time sharing with us. 🤍 Jess x
I surveyed the Monsal Trail for Sustrans when the ballast from the rail was still there back in the 1970s. I cycled along it from Bakewell photographing all the access points (35mm slides). The tunnels were open but unlit - they were closed off for some years but they are now open and lit. You parked at Monsal Head which is used for a cycle timed hill climb in the Autumn. You're in 'my country'. I've been wandering around there on foot and motor/pedal cycling for last 70+ years. Thanks for appreciating it.
Sounds like you have quite a bit of history with the area. It was great to take it in. Cheers, Chris
It’s good to see how much of what was once an industrial area has been so beautifully reclaimed by nature. I was born in Derbyshire almost 70 years ago but moved away when I joined the RAF at the age of 20. I never appreciated how picturesque and interesting it was until I was able to move back again.
Some times it takes time and moving away to realize something like that. Cheers, Chris
That was one beautiful walk I used to walk a lot going back loved to see the wild life and flowers am 83 now so hiking days are over but still have lovely memories as will you both in later life.❤
That is awesome! Cheers, Chris
The driving parts are so immersive, I love that you just leave the camera so we are 1st person, and you aren't constantly whipping it around to your faces for "reaction shots"
Friend, I'm so glad you enjoyed those parts. We love sharing our true trip, and driving is a part of it. Thank you for your kindness 🤍 Jess x
Hi Jess and Chris! Really enjoying your visits to the peak district, my father toms family where from Sheffield so as a child this area was his playground! due to dreaded ra ( rheumatoid arthritis) it's been years since I've enjoyed that land? your journeys are a treat! best wishes to your family for the new year , regards John
Sorry to hear about your RA, but glad we can bring you along with us on our trips. Best wishes to you and yours as well. Cheers, Chris
We need to really appreciate more our network of footpaths, some going back thousands of years. Thank you for showing some of the most beautiful areas of the UK.
We totally agree with that. Cheers Chris
Absolutely LOVE and ADORE the Peak District since ‘Youth Hosteling’ as a kid with my middle school in the 70’s. Bakewell, Matlock, Buxton, Castleton … etc. Trekking with our ruck sacks between all / each hostel. Such a laugh; such brilliant memories.
Outstanding area of natural beauty. ☺️🥰❤️💚💜🙏🤩🤣 🇬🇧
It is indeed. Cheers, Chris
it's good when new builds are in keeping with the village's rustic aesthetic
I agree, friend. 🤍 Jess x
awesome, what a lovely walk
there is some great places in the peak district, the Roaches and Luds church walk is cool if you ever go back, some amazing scenery. probably not the best time of year for it though right now
i remember the bogey man who lived at the roaches early 80s in a house made of fallen rock slabs
amazing place,,,
@@davidblurton7158 yeah, Rockhall Cottage is up there, crazy place, the old bloke lived in there with no running water or anything
its been a dwelling back to at least the 1700s though, dont know the exact history of it
It may not have been the right time of year, but we want to see as much as we can while we are here and it was still a great visit. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBarn it was a perfect day for it in this video tbh 😄
i meant it might not be best time of year to visit Luds church/Rockhall cottage and the roaches although if you dont mind a bit of mud you should while you are here, all 3 places are on the same short walk and its hard to beat the scenery you come across up there
This is my neighbourhood, the landscape changes with the season's and weather but it's always stunning, peaceful . So no matter how many times we visit it's always breathtaking. Never get tired of it. I live in Chesterfield. The area with its Peaks, Dales, Villages, History and friendly people, surrounding my beautiful home town is fantastic, we are so lucky.
It's truly beautiful to call it home. We really enjoy getting out and driving around experience and exploring this island. 🤍 Jess x
Enjoyed this video, Chesterfield born and now living in South Lincolnshire you just covered two of our fave English places. The Peak and Lincoln. My wife and I drove through Bakewell a couple of days before Christmas on our way to see the decorations at Chatsworth House . Glad you enjoy your trips. We've travelled widely and done several road trips in the US which were great but it's always good to come home and explore more of our own country.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for making this video. So happy you enjoyed the Peak District. We are very blessed to have such beautiful scenery and history in the uk. Hope you make another trip over this way again, as there's soooo much to see and do!!
Thank you, friend. We're so happy to have the opportunity to call the UK home away from home. We will be back many times to explore. Thankfully, we're still exploring the UK. 🤍 Jess x
Awwww, I was waiting for you to visit Matlock Bath, just outside Matlock. It really is beautiful, the most scenic area and one of my favourite places to visit. Never mind, great video regardless.
Maybe we will take that route next time. Cheers, Chris
You're my epic adventure channel. I've just caught up with the Lincoln video, followed by this Peaks one. Both up to your high standard, different but compulsive viewing. The Lincoln one showed areas that I've never seen and that was very interesting- the Peaks one gave us the beautiful 'typically English' scenery, and it was a joy to see you 'hiking', and thoroughly enjoying the exercise. And I have to tell you that there is so much more to see, and places to go in the UK. Thanks again for the effort and thought that is needed to produce these works. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Well we are glad to be your go-to epic adventure channel. We do enjoy getting out to whatever we can and glad it can be appreciated even though the adventures may be a little different. Cheers, Chris
A very close friend of 60 years lives near Matlock and I visit regularly. We are now not able to take walks such as yours and have to content ourselves with driving so thank you for sharing yours. You didn't buy a Bakewell Pudding! For exciting rivers. try "the world's most deadly", The Strid, at Fountains Abbey. Yorkshire.
Patrick,
How lovely, friend! It's was such a beautiful day spent exploring some amazing beautiful places. We're so thankful for each of you coming along with us. Unfortunately, no we didn't get any pudding, but hopefully, next time, we will. Thank you for coming along with us on all of our adventures. 🤍 Jess x
What I love about places like the Peak district is that yes its stunning, and there are equally stunning landscapes around the world, but its got a real sense of 'ages' behind it . The area has been home to civilisations, and a working landscape for hundreds of years. Theres ancient stone circles, right up to industrial revolution . And now it lays silent for the farmers and tourists. Doesnt matter where you tread, you get a feeling of ancestral footsteps.
I agree, friend! It is amazing to be able to get out and explore and experience so much such beauty here on this amazing island. We appreciate your kindness 🤍 Jess x
As you where driving through Matlock, you where looking at Riber Castle on your right high up on the hill. Having been born and raised in the Peak District it was interesting listening to your comments as you drove along. I found myself saying your missing the river walk on your left as you passing through Bakewell and you should have stopped at the famous Bakewell pudding shop. But that's the thing about the Peak District, you need to get out and walk to see the best bits.
As true with so many places we visit. We try to see as much as we can. Cheers, Chris
Thank you for coming and showing our beautiful country outside of London! People don’t realise that we have so many beautiful landscapes over here 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸
You are very welcome and truly enjoy seeing things that are outside London. Cheers, Chris
You weren't far off Chatsworth House (unless you've already been), you would have loved that. When in Matlock and you saw the castle on the hill top, that's Riber Castle, used to be a Zoo but now luxury appartments.
i drove past it this year,, i had to go to bakewell and ended up driving round the local area and matlock,,
it takes a lot to impress me but driving past chatsworth and how close ish you get to it it genuinely made me say wow,,,, what a building and setting
Wasn't Riber castle in the movie 'Dead man's shoes', I believe it's being turned in to luxury apartments now 👍
@@aflatminor Hi Mate, not seen the film but will check it out. But Yeh it's Luxury Apartments now" looks really good.. With View I guess it's not Cheap.
We tried to get there but no luck. It did look like a good place to visit though. Cheers, Chris
@@aflatminor Hi, yes it's luxury apartments now
Glad you saw Riber Castle in the distance (part of my family is from Matlock). I am Derbyshire born and bred, and I am so glad that you enjoyed your time with us. Next time, go to Castleton; MamTor will blow your mind, as will Peveril Castle. I can appreciate both sides of the Pond, as I lived in New England for 23 years (and have a US Passport!)
We will try and make another trip there and see some of those things. We appreciate both sides of the Pond as well. Cheers, Chris
A beautiful place. I have been a few times over the years, the first was on a school trip many years ago. We were taken to the Blue John mines as part of a Geography class it left a lasting impression on me. I then went years later with my two boys my youngest was just turning 9 , we went down a mine that you went on an under ground boat. I remember the other visitors singing happy birthday to him, It was so sad to think who used to work down the mines as it would have been children the same age as my son. Sobering to think many years ago children would have been working at the age of nine down a dunk, dark hole in the ground. The last time i visited was with my husband a few years ago, We did the exact same walk as you did, it with similar weather but i dont think it was so muddy Even though it was autumn there were people in the water, we thought they were mad but they were enjoying it. It was the October half term Chatsworth was open and they were preparing for Christmas so we got a sneak peak of the Christmas decorations. They were amazing, one day i want to go back at Christmas just to see the decorations.
It was a beautiful place indeed. Glad that it brought up some good memories for you. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Chris
What an absolutely fab vlog! I have visited the Peak District but missed out on some on the places you visited! The walk down to the viaduct looked treacherous! And that river looked wild! But on the whole, the stunning beauty of it all just took my breath away.
Next time you visit - when you pop back here “on vacation” a trip up to Bakewell is a must, just to try the Bakewell pudding as it really is lush!
Keep on touring GB, I’m seeing so much of my country through your eyes, making me appreciate all the places that are “just there” that I have never visited 🥰🥰
We are glad that you enjoyed the vlog. If we make it back there we will pop in for a Bakewell pudding for sure. Cheers, Chris
45 years ago we had a dog, a Golden Retriever called Sally, and living in Sheffield which is quite near by we would often take Sally to Monsal Dale for a walk. It became Sally's favourite place, we would walk by the river and under the viaduct and then on a little way before turning back. It was where Sally found out she could swim. She would run up to the water's edge repeatedly and then stop dead before entering the river and just barked. Getting exasperated, eventually I just picked her up and threw her in - and from then on you couldn't get her out of the water. In those days I had an estate car (station wagon), and every time we drove down the hill from the Monsal Head Hotel to the farmhouse where you crossed the bridge, Sally knew exactly where we were and would yelp excitedly in the back of the car, and as I lifted the tailgate she would be out and off to get in the river before I could grab hold of her to put a lead on. Happy memories.
Oh, friend, I love the sweet memories of Sally you shared with us. It made me smile reading. I truly appreciate you take the time your time with Sally, finding her joy of swimming. I hope you have a lovely New Year 🤍 Jess x
Living in Sheffield which a 1/3 of the city lays in the peak district i feel so lucky that 30min drive and i can be at Chatsworth / Bakewell / Castleton and so many more places 👍
I live less than 20 miles from the Peak District and it's beautiful, even more so in the summer. Glad you liked the place, another great video!
I image it is. If we can make it back then we will. Cheers, Chris
Drove through here a couple of years ago! Beautiful in fall... Luckily Chatsworth was open! And seems you missed Haddon Hall, you drove right past it between Bakewell and Rowsley!!! Although it is hidden from the road and probably closed this time of year! But a must if in the area!!! Look it up! Cheers...
Thank you for the insight. We will definitely be back to visit and see even more. We widh there was more time in the day to see it all. I'm sure the fall was beautiful. Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
I love your enthusiasm for our country . My daughter lived in Crich near Matlock and has now move to Chinley near Kinder Scout . Mundane Derbyshire villages each with their own charm and beauty .
Thank you for your kindness. We definitely are very lucky to have the opportunity to explore this beautiful island and experience as much as possible. There are so many charm and hidden gems around each corner to explore. Thank you for coming along with us. 🤍 Jess x
Beautiful. Hope you all had a great Christmas. Happy New Year too!
Same to you and yours. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBarn 👍👍
What a beautiful video! The scenery is just stunning and the awe you guys show really comes through! The Peak district is a stunning place all year round and I am so glad you guys got to experience the shear beauty that surrounds us each day in the UK! To think that some of the first settlers in the USA that came from the UK named places in the USA fter places here in the UK but I ask can you compare them to these wonders of the World! Glad you booth enjoyed the scenery and heres wishing you a safe and Happy Christmas and a Truly cracking New Year x
Glad you enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well. Cheers, Chris
your footage and appreciation of our country is wonderful. need to revisit when green for its full effect,
We travel the whole year because we want to take advantage of the time we are here. Cheers, Chris
Hi. Thank you for a lovely video. My wife (see picture) and I live just ten minutes or so from the Peak District and whilst we love it, it’s really nice to to see other people’s reactions. I first met my wife at Monsal Head and we were married at a beautiful Hotel in Rowsley (you were right first time by the way, it’s Row, as in row your boat). In spring, the Peak District is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Friend, I loved reading about you and your lovely wife's first meeting at Monsal Head. Also, you all are so lucky to live so close to the Peak District! Thank you for sharing about yourself and your beautiful wife store with us. 🤍 Jess x
You should've turn right to Matlock Bath , its like a inland seaside town.
Maybe next time. Cheers, Chris
Also the stepping stones at Dove Dale
I never, ever comment really on videos but I randomly clicked this video and you're literally at our favourite spot.
I advise to come back to Monsal Trail in summer, the part you past before the swan, you can sit on the grass and swim in the waters as the cows saunter past.
And if you go on the bridge, you can walk or cycle the whole length which passes through in a long tunnel
Well thank you for taking the time to comment on this video. We do appreciate it and will look into getting back there. Cheers, Chris
Nothing wrong with a lean, although against a bar is better!
I love the Peak District, almost as much as The Lake District.
Its brilliant that you take the time to travel all over the UK
Its so slippery, you need to be careful!
We will continue to be careful, we do appreciate the concern. Cheers, Chris
Miss the roundabouts 😂
When you return, spend time in the lake district.
And the Yorkshire Dales.
We will try. Cheers, Chris
My ancestors lived in that area, one, Sir Thomas has a tomb in nearby Bakewell church. Their manor was between Haddon Hall and Matlock
Very nice. Cheers, Chris
As an Australian who has visited the UK a couple of times, the thing that has impacted so much on us is how ordered and 'In Place' that every thing seems to be!!
We do understand what you are talking about. Cheers, Chris
That England is not true of the whole country now many parts of the U.K. are not as they were. All the best to the Aussies.
Mondale Viaduct(not bridge) carried the Midland Mainliner railway from Manchester to Derby via Bakewell and Matlock, the railway was closed in the Beeching Cuts in the 1960s, a real loss to the area, one of the reasons the main A6 road from Buxton through Bakewell, Matlock to Derby is clogged with traffic now
Actually, the line wasn't closed by the Beeching Cuts - I lead guided walks along the Monsal Trail, and am writing a book on the history of the line, so I'm well versed in its history. The Beeching report actually recommended keeping the line open as a through route, and just scrapping the local passenger services except for a Derby to Matlock train, with all of the other stations apart from Matlock being closed. The decision to close the line actually came a couple of years later, by Barbara Castle, who ignored the Beeching recommendation and decided to completely close the line north of Matlock. Originally, they would have gone with the suggestion of closing all of the stations south of Matlock, but local pressures saved all of them apart from Derby Nottingham Road and Matlock Bath - but that reopened again a couple of years later when they realised that closing it had been a big mistake given the amount of tourist traffic Matlock Bath attracted.
A viaduct is a bridge
Thanks for the comments and information. We enjoyed the area. Cheers, Chris
A viaduct is a specific type of bridge called a Viaduct.
Lovely video. I’ve lived in The Peak for 20+ years and have been visiting the area for 60 years. Charming to hear you so excited about the place, perhaps I’ve been taking it a bit for granted :)
Glad you enjoyed it. We had a blast. Cheers, Chris
So many comments pushing Matlock Bath, it's a tourist trap full of chip shops and amusement arcades. The real White Peak is not far away, villages like Youlgrave, Elton, Winster etc. You can stay for more than a week and walk a different path (and find a different pub) every day.
I agree, one of my fave places is Bradford dale, and Youlgrave is a joy. The river Lathkill is a particular fave also!
Thank you for the insight, love! We will definitely try to check them out. We really appreciate your time sharing with us. We hope you have a Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
@@katekelly4502 You walk some of the same trails that we do. We usually park in Alport & set off from there. Lathkill to Over Haddon & beyond is great. See if you can follow this one (one of my faves): Alport > along the Bradford to Mawstone Lane > path on left of river up hill > across the fields (horses 1st, sheep next & cows last) > down to river > down metal stairs > south bank of river > over bridge > north bank of river > up steps to Youlgreave (past the huge teacup in garden on right - she actually offered us a tea one summer because we were so parched) > quick pint in the Farmyard Inn beer garden) > Main St > church > down hill to river > back to Alport. My fave walk of all is Lower Hartshay canal > Pentrich > Bacon Lane > Coney Grey Farm > across the B6013 > Park Lane > Wingfield Manor > fields back down to Park Lane > across Coalburn Brook > in & out of the 3 woods just above Fritchley > Sawmills > path through gorge that used to be the canal > back of Excavator pub > fishing pond > fields to Bridle Lane > canal back to car.
@@bonnie7191 Hi there, yes, I love that part of the Peak District, many happy memories of standing on Conksbury Bridge watching the clear cool waters on a hot day! I'm afraid the years have caught up with me and I don't get about as much as I used to but I usually have a good scramble over the rocks on Higger Tor and Stanage Edge during the summer with the aid of my grandson. Best wishes and happy hiking!
Matlock is a beautiful town, I used to visit quite alot when I lived in Chesterfield. We have visited Chatsworth house a few times. Me and a mate of mine watched the Chatsworth stage of the Lombard RAC ralley years back, watching the cars tear arsing through the grounds at over 100mph was totally awesome. Derbyshire on the whole is a gorgeous county to visit. Keep the memories guys, they will put a smile on your face in years to come.
How wonderful thank you so much for sharing. We can't wait to return and explore even more. We really appreciate you sharing your time with us. Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
Have you been to Chester yet? You’d love it there with its medieval buildings and Roman walls
Not sure if we made it there yet. Sounds like a good recommendation though. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBarn My daughter went to Uni in Chester I garentee you wont have enough storage space on your phone to record its beauty .....and history
@@zeroradio08 And if they also took in the Holy Well at HolyWell, then that is a really ancient place and very beautiful and not too far away from Chester. I do agree with you - they'd really love Chester, I hope.
The view towards the bridge was stunning. I always look forward to your videos. The Peak District is timeless and that is the attraction. Just think of the labour that went into building those walls. Remember, regarding the drone, if you can find a place to take off and land from a public road or space you can ignore the notices if not in a CAA no-fly zone on their app. I get that you may not want to argue with a jobsworth who thinks he knows the law. Being able to get out and go for a walk in the countryside in the UK is something to be treasured.
We are glad that you always look forward to the videos. We do appreciate your support and comments. I do appreciate the info on the drone stuff. I prefer to stay on the safe side of things. While I hate to miss an opportunity to get different vantage point, I do not want to give anyone a reason to tell me I am in the wrong, especially when we are posting it on UA-cam. I will continue to look for places to get the drone footage though, you can count on that. Cheers, Chris
Glad you've come up to our neck of the woods, glad you came through Bakewell. you should have a a Bakewell Pud.
Maybe next time. Cheers, Chris
🇬🇧 This is a bit of an eye opener. You see things which we just take for granted. Thanks for reminding me what I have just a hop, skip and a jump away...
Oh, friend, we love sharing in our joy of this beautiful country! Thank you for your time watching. 🤍 Jess x
Good morning and seasons greetings from the Peak District
Happy New Years, from DDB. Cheers, Chris
So this has reminded me of how lucky I am to live on the edge of the Peak District.
You don't really appreciate certain things until you step back and take a look around at what you have.. ESPECIALLY through the eyes of others!
Great video! ☮️
Couldn't agree with you more. Cheers, Chris
The place on the hill above Matlock is Riber Castle. It and the areas more modern claim to fame is that it features in the Shane Meadows film Dead mans shoes. A revenge film which has a surprisingly high amount of violence. The film used many shooting locations around Derbyshire and deals with the decline and growing poverty and introduction of drugs into these ancient industrial towns once famous for fabric Mills and engineering.
The film is quite a low budget cult classic and uses the beauty and bleakness of the landscape well.
That sounds like it has some good history behind the Riber Castle, we will have to check some of those out. Cheers, Chris
I have lived in the area you visited for over 20 years. It is very refreshing to hear how much you enjoyed your visit, as we tend to take it for granted after so long living here.
As a Yorkshireman you must visit the Yorkshire dales and North York moors they are also breathtaking. Enjoy our beautiful country.
We are for sure planning both places to visit, hopefully soon. Cheers, Chris
Loved this video, I loved your reactions to what you saw. I’m lucky to call the Peak District home. I live in Belper, did you visit? It’s a lovely little town, down the road from Matlock. Happy travels
Not sure we made it that way. Cheers, Chris
I live on the south side of Sheffield just a 15 minute drive from the Peak district. I've enjoyed this beautiful corner of England for over 44 years. Saw Rich Hall perform at Bakewell Town Hall a few months ago. Great show. Nice video, keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! We see why. It's just so beautiful and so much to explore. We love it here!
Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
hey guys im from the Peak District a town called Glossop
Hey there. Cheers, Chris
I stumbled across your video and I love to hear your love for England and in particular the Peak District. It sometimes gets skipped I think! I know these roads so well and kept saying ‘Turn left!’ ‘Turn right!’ There’s so many things to see just in the area you drove in. And I agree. Just jump in the car and drive. Perfect way to do the Peak District!
We're so glad you stumbled up on DDB! We definitely love the Peak District we love to be outdoors and the Peak District calls us. We have loved that most about the UK as a whole the love of being outdoors and walking.
We love to just get out and explore because this island has so many gems around every turn. We appreciate your kindness 🤍 Jess x
Perhaps you could manage a brief course in stone wall construction whilst in the UK? if the farm you are buying in the US doubles as a tourist venue, I am sure your visitors would be attracted, and I assume that there are plenty of rocks about!
And/or there are courses on how to lay a hedge, which must also be a rare skill in the US. Walls and hedges are often different in different places but knowing even one method/style would be more than most people ever learn.
One of the shortest poems written by rural poet Pam Ayres went like this:
'I'm a dry-stone waller.
Of all appaling callings
Dry-stone walling's
The most appaling of all'
Having quoted that, I've talked to several of dry-stone wallers over the years and they seem a fairly cheerful bunch.
I wasn't so cheerful when I tried to fix the dry-stone wall by my house hit by a truck.. It's harder than it looks...
We wouldn't mind having something like that at our farm when we get settled. It might be something we will look into. Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBarn It might be a bit easier to find an introductory course in dry stone walling whilst you are in the UK!
The Dry Stone Walling Association does weekend beginner courses, the nearest to you would appear to be in the Cotswolds, so you would have to put up with a couple of days in the countryside there! Do a google for more information.
I love driving through the peak district from stoke to ashbourne the landscape is quite awe inspiring.
It's so beautiful! We definitely appreciate and love it as well, friend. 🤍 Jess x
I live just 4 miles from Chatsworth and visit often.
Not a bad place to be. Cheers, Chris
So nice to see visitors exploring more of the country than London. There's plenty out there to enjoy.
We definitely love exploring this beautiful island! 🤍 Jess x
Don't forget to try the Bakewell Tarts
Had one, it was delicious. Cheers, Chris
These are quite nice towns but there are absolutely breathtaking little rural towns all over the UK, some so beautiful that even those of us used to them cant help but sit and admire.
I completely understand, and we live traveling and exploring this beautiful country. Thank you for your time. 🤍 Jess x
"But I would really advise you to make your purchase in that neighbourhood, and take Pemberley for a kind of model. There is not a finer county in England than Derbyshire." Jane Austen 😊
Nice. Cheers, Chris
Oh, the monsall trail, its on the bridge you walked under. It's an abandoned railway line made into a cycle path and walk, with a tea room & cycle hire, with abandoned platforms and tunnels to go through along the way. we used to cycle this both ways with our 2 children. Buxton to Bakewell, have a walk round, then back to buxton, then home by car to the high Peak, Glossop our home.
How wonderful! We will be going back to explore the area even more. The Peak District is a very special place. We appreciate your time sharing with us. Happy New Year 🤍 Jess x
Now you know why the British loves their footpaths,by-ways and bridleways giving everyone the right of way through our countryside
Indeed. Cheers, Chris
A lot of storm damage but nature is gradually healing herself - with little help. A very relaxing video. Thanks.
We love how nature restores it's self. We love exploring, learning, and sharing with you all. We are so happy you enjoyed the video. 🤍 Jess x
This is the real England.
It is indeed. Cheers, Chris
love seeing my country through your eyes. I have walked many of these trails in my youth. Now with limited mobilty you bring the first time I saw it right back. Thank you for your love of our beautiful countryside.
Glad we could bring back some good memories for you. Cheers, Chris
