I’ve watched this video like 3 times now lol. I kept getting blurry prints but just now realized why you pay it down with the paper towel. Thanks for taking the time to make this 🙏🏽
Cool video, i'm about to try making my first cyanotype prints, this video was really helpful so thanks for this interesting tutorial and showing us your process
I definitely want to try this, although at the moment one thing I'm unsure about is how well pastel paintings will convert to film negatives. I mainly do monochromatic paintings in green-black, with grey-green highlights. But wanting to try making purple-grey pastels later.
Omg yes, I’ve done that! Well, just the cover 😊 but if you did the entire zine I’d cry that’s such a good idea. I have a friend that makes cyanotype zines on paper it’s sooo rad. You should try and let me know how it turns out for you! Here is their page if you wanted to check em out…they’re a cyanotype master ⬇️ instagram.com/baptism.distro?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Such an amazing detailed vid!! Thank you! And, potential solution for stray dots of paint outside the frame-putting some tape over it so it doesn’t get sunlight before the wash-out phase?
I read the regular cyanotype is hard to wash verses this type of dye where u can use regular detergent to wash it out. When I read thar I was sad because I wanted to print my own fabric for a skirt but idk if its going to keep the image in the long run. 😢....but this is so helpful thank you! Do more! ❤
Yeah, that's why I love these dyes! They've lasted on my shirts for years with no fading yet. Hopefully you're able to get your images on your skirt...I think that would look really dope. Thank for watching :)
It's a big contact print....At first, wondered what stopped the developing process.... With film, there's developer, stop and fix... That looks like fun! A great way to make custom T-shirts for a small event, as well... How small of an image will it do? Could you use that on, say, a white ( or light color) trucker's type hat?
Absolutely! It will be trickier to get the print to lay out on a hat, but doable 👍🏽 Works with small prints and even oversized prints, just takes some trial and error to get it right. Have fun with it!!
You tell this story so cool! Thanks for sharing it with us, but I have a question, if we don’t access to “ Solar Fast liquid” how can we made something like this? Do you know any formula that help us?
There are lots of different cyanotype dyes you can use for this, not just solar fast! Just look up “cyanotype dye” and a couple different brands should pop up. Have fun making your art 🥰
I just got the regualar cyanotype solutions that has part A&B , I’m hoping to get the same effect on tshirts/tanks and that my designs don’t fade over time !
Hi,does the dye on the shirt have to completely dry before placing the print & exposing it to the sun? Or is it best for the dye/shirt to be damp? I believe you said this but want to make sure. Also does the transparency have to be inverted or can you use a non-inverted?
No problem! I haven’t tried it on anything besides shirts, personally. I’d check out the jacquard website listed in my description to learn more on that, have fun!! 😍
Hi! Thank you so much for this video, it helped me a lot today (was my first try and it went quite good 💖). I have a question: even if it’s suggest to use different brushes for each color is there a specific way to clean them? Today i made 3 pieces with the black color and i didn’t know if i have to wash the brush between an application and the other (so at a distance of 20 minutes). I did it after the first and the second and the third pieces went worst, but i’m confused if it’s because of the brush or because the sunlight went down ahah thanks! Sorry for the long message
I’m curious, being that you use a negative to produce the proper picture, what happens if you don’t use a negative and just use a regular picture? Don’t wanna stupid , but does it turn out like the negative?
Look up “Blythtype” which talks about creative a positive print using a positive image instead of a negative one. It’s possible to print this way although it takes more practice and the print isn’t as vibrant. I’ve never tried it but seen some interesting articles about it online
Yes you can ask the person at the production desk if they can print your image onto transfer paper. They should know what to do! But if you wanna DIY you can use the self serve printers and just feed Transfer paper into them (you can buy them there)
@@brattyxbre washed with any detergent or use bleach?I read comments under some posts and people said don't washed with the detergent contain Phosphate or somebody said washed with Hydrogen peroxide actually I'm so confused
At the end of the video I explain the wash you need to stop exposure (solar fast detergent) you use this once, right after printing. Then moving forward you can use standard detergent. I use Gain or an organic detergent that’s gentle on clothes, you’ll have to see what works for you. It’s all trial and error and I don’t have a “right” answer do you unfortunately. I only share what I do and hope it works! :)
@brattyxbre HOW DID YOU PRINT THE WHITE ON THE TRANSPARENT PAPER I AM ABLE TO PRINT BLACK BUT IM LOST AND CONFUSED ON HOW TO GET THE REST OF THE PICTURE ON PLEASE HELP THANK YOU
@@StereoHype777 you must first turn your image into a negative using the generator in the caption. this will give you both the white, shades of grey, and black when printing
@@brattyxbrethe website helped but I’m still having problems getting the rest of the picture to come out Idk if it’s just the picture itself that’s the issue …I raised the contrast but I’m only getting black ink and sometimes not enough it’s very inconsistent with my negative prints
This is awesome! Thank you for the tutorial, I will definitely try this. I have one question: does it matter which side front or back) of the transparency should be touching the t shirt? Will the dye affect the printed side?
Make sure the printed side faces up! If you touch it onto the dye, it will smear :/ Unless you put some sort of protective barrier on it like shrink wrap or plastic Also, transparencies like these always have a slightly "rougher" side that you can feel. The rough side is the side your image will print on. It's designed like this so when you print, the ink will not slide off Have fun making your shirts!! I'm happy this was helpful for you :)
As hot as possible to get all the unexposed dye out! I always wash the shirt by itself at first. Then afterwards you can feel free to wash it with your normal load of laundry
Is it really necessary to buy solar fast film, or in environment exist an available analogues? And the basic printer can print on this type of “paper”, I mean you just put in printer this film, choose negative photo and you’ve done?
As I started in the video, there are other options besides solar fast you just have to look :) As for the printer, if you use inkjet then you choose “glossy” You might have to run it through a few times to get the image opaque enough, or you can print onto multiple transfers and just layer them
When I use photoshop there are two steps: 1) turn it into black and white And then 2) invert that black and white image The generator, however, does both of those steps for you so you don’t have to worry about multiple steps!
I have yet to try it on paper, but check out my friend who is a cyanotype QUEEN and does it on paper ⬇️ The results are amazing!! instagram.com/baptism.distro?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

It’s best to wipe them off right away ! I use Lysol wipes. But it’s ok if they are hard to clean, you can always print another one if you have more film :)
Maybe a nice park?? One time I even did it on top of my car lmao, or you can get a UV light (pretty elaborate but if you wanted to really invest) and do it inside!

I’ve never tried with the regular solution but curious to hear how that turns out
so if I washed it with solarwash for example. After wearing it, can I wash it in the washing machine with normal clothes and normal detergent?
Yes, after you stop exposure with that first wash it will be fine with other detergent/laundry afterwards 😊
