I replaced my (second) backlight with the LED display which I purchased from a German company. Yes, fitting the SMD resister is a bit of a pain but well worth it. Thank you for this video Arnold.
Interested in trying this, would also consider disabling the invertor on the dc power board since it's not needed for the EL strip anymore, stop that annoying whine too.
Hi, I need help!. I connect the display to the wide cable it comes with and it only shows LIGHT, it doesn't give me a character image. Am I doing something wrong? Or do you need to connect other cables? Thank you
I was wondering, does the LED backlight ever fade? I've replaced my 01/W's backlight several years ago. Only took about a year for the backlight to fade to nothing, very disappointing project! I'd do it again if I knew the backlight will stay bright and readable.
@@skywatcherarnoldvanlent4227 Well I just replaced mine! I got the White text on Black background. Luxdisplays on eBay (UK vendor) builds them, no soldering that resistor required at all, it's completely plug&play. You just have to survive completely disassembling the entire 01/Wfd, and also be patient b/c he custom-builds you the display you order - takes 1-2 months.
Did u had to remove some component from the powersupply board as well? according to synth-parts, the transistor Q1 and capacitor C11 need to be removed
@@arnoldsretrokeys189 as i had the hum very clearly, i decide to remove the components as mentioned by synth-parts.. hopefully my solderskills are good enough now.. fingers crossed
@Trevor Marcos Trevor Marcos, I think that the question was not for you, and I think that they are not ways of responding with education either. Just get on with your life please
Hi! Thank you for sharing this idea. Could you please say something about the value of the new resistor? Also does that have to be a SMD component? I guess one can use just a normal type, but please provide the value of it :) Thanks 😊
I too have a 01/Wfd, and I've written all my songs on it, but I don't know how to export (or transfer) all the MIDI information (from the sequencer) into my laptop. Do you have any experience in this?
I replaced the chips to the 62 ROM chips so the 01w/fd can save to 'standard midi files'. The problem from there is how you get that data from a 720kb DD disk to a windows based laptop. There is a USB converter drive for the board but it only works at the speed of a floppy drive. However I don't have any experience with these converter drives so I am not sure if a Windows laptop/PC could read the data as it's stored at Double Density rather than High Density. Its certainly worth investigating though.
Give this a try: Go to your DAW (XG-Works, Cubase, Logic, Cakewalk, Musicator), create a 16-Track-Midi-Song. Then record ON Track 1 only the playing Track 1 from your Korg ( Set the same tempo). After Ending from song, do the Same with the next Track a.s.o. )
Arnolds RetroKeys Hey, I just stumbled upon your site. Do you repair other Korg O1W/FD’s or just your own. I have one in need of repair. Screen is out & May need other small fixes as well. Thanks

Hi mic! Where can I get the display with the backlight to buy for the O1W workstation? Could you send the link for the company.
Can you pls explain for what purpose we remove the resistor and it uses and disadvantage if the resistor cannot be removed???

It has been a splendid job... could you tell me what is the value of the new SMD resistor that it replaces?
Hello where can I buy the LED Display?
Korg t3 and korg 01w almost the same wondefing can both keys fit this light ? Mean t3 ?
hello great video! where do you connect the power to the LED display, or, does it get enough power from the data (flat) cable? thanks
The flat cable gives thepower but dont forget to replace the /smd resistor. Happy soldering.

The led backlight will not fade before 50 000 hours so dont worry it will burn long after the synth die. 😁😁👍👍
