    I was not a child of the 90s, I'm a 2001 baby, I own the 01W/FD but listening to these demo songs remind me of the small taste of the 90s I had from watching certain movies, cartoon episodes, educational videos in school, because of that 90s sound. I'm a huge fan of that whole "Almost real-sounding but not quite real sounding" sound!!! 🤣

    Thanks for uploading this. I never thought I'd ever hear this again. This was my very first synth, and this demo just blew me away when I first got it around 1993.
    I am a much better musician now than I was back then, but I am still impressed at how much effort was put into these demo tracks. They built one major theme, and created a track with the same theme but in different genres. It was and still is brilliant.

    Rock Show, very impressive song even by new standards !! The Korg 01 oozes so much character and personality, unbelievable! Makes new synths and keyboards look and sound like a piece of plastic! :D

    OMG! That Sound! ❤ I am totally back in my father's music store in the early 90s when I was a kid! Listening to this gives me goosebumps! He still has this synth and probably the floppy disk is somewhere to be found 😍 Starting with minute 8:00 I still rememver thinking about my crush in those days! Heard it over and over... I played kickin' it on stage with the "Rock Show" starting after min 12:00. The rest was for a friend and me playing hosts in a radio station. Great stuff! Thank you so much for sharing!

    Whoa, nice blue shining display! Makes it look like a Kurzweil K2500! :D Korg 01/W rules, one of the best synths ever made!

    OMG! I'd forgotten about this demo. I received my 01/WFD as a gift from my grandfather before I could play, and these tracks seemed so far from my comprehension then. It's funny how dated and cheesy some of this sound, yet how well other bits seem to hold up. Many modern ENTRY level arranger keyboards do a more convincing job of replication, but I keep my old O1 around for nostalgia and the incredible web offerings.

    Since 2020 began, I’ve developed a bad habit of daydreaming what it would have been like if I’d chosen this model as my first synthesizer instead of the Alesis QS6, a model I was ultimately dissatisfied with. It was bought with my grandfather’s money, and I was reluctant to ask for more than $1,000.00. But for that reservation, I could’ve gotten (something like) this. Compared to the Korg product line of the 90s, the Alesis has a shelf life.
    Wonder if anyone has ever tried sticking the sound engine from an X5D into this baby, in place of its original engine. Improved bit resolution and double the polyphony.

    I wonder, why is it that with the exception of Rock Show, all the other demo songs seem to cut off suddenly without a proper ending? This doesn’t seem to happen with the demo songs of File B.

    Wow! I certainly miss hearing these amazing demo tracks. Unfortunately my Korg 01/W Pro is under the weather, not turning on properly, it takes a few minutes, and once it's finally on the main screen, calling up combi/program patches takes up a minute for each time you switch sounds. It's a slow dying machine! If any one on the chat has experienced this let me know, and is there a fix??

      Hi, First I would check the power supply board, if every components are stil ok, caps not weak or out of specs. Second check all the cables and their connectors. I think it's a good start to investigate. Regards. Matt.

    reminds me of Nintendo DS Pokémon games
    Nintendo is still using some of these sounds in even more recent games like the NSMB series, daaang
    JRPGs, too

    What is the "USB Gotek floppy drive emulator"? The FD on my 01W/FD is dead, so I'd love to replace it somehow, as I still have all of my old floppy disks.

      @@mattstudio8556 Thanks for the reply. I see the drives for sale on Amazon now - I'll have to pick one up and then see about making a USB key for it. I imagine the key is MS-DOS formatted and has .syx files for the combis and progs, but I'll have to look with more depth into how the drive is laid out.

    Hi Matt, ok I have a question. My existing floppy drive on my Korg 01W/FD doesnt work. It either loads or saves or vice versa but doesnt do both. I have a crapload of customized sounds on LOTS of disks and sequences I created back in the nineties. Will buying this USB Floppy Emulator solve the problem in order to retrieve all the data from my old floppy's??
    Or do I have to get an old floppy disk drive and dump it all on a new USB stick or with the new emulator do that for me?? Is it both Floppy and USB??
    Also, I have watched a couple of videos on repairing the back light...what is it with that de and re soldering that R149 chip to get that new blue blacklight happening?? Is it as bad as it looks to repair??
    Thanks for your answer in advance

    • @mattstudio8556
      @mattstudio8556  3 роки тому

      Hi, USB floppy emulator works with floppy image files, such as *.hfe. You'll have to convert your old floppy datas with a software to convert them as image files. if you have a computer with a floppy drive (an Atari ST for instance), you can also tranfer floppy data by Sysex in the internal memory of your 01/W and then save all the internal data on the USB floppy emulator, once installed of course.
      I replaced my old backlight display by a LED one. It was plug and play, no soldering needed.

      @@mattstudio8556 Would it be safe to say that it's plug and play because you have the Pro X??
      I am using the 01W/FD

    • @SerErris
      @SerErris 2 роки тому +2

      @@Darrin.Crawford works with 01/W FD the same ... to transfer disks you need an parallel 3.5 inch floppy that can read 720kb DD dos disks (that is the format the 01/w writes). And you need some older software (or a driver) that simply ignores that it is not a dos formatted disk. Three is also a USB adapter for modern computers that can do the job. It is called the kryoflux .. it enables you to read nearly any floppy format (even of ancient computers like the ST Amiga, Amstrad CPC whatever.
