    I’ve found from the few two handed bowlers I’ve observed is they hold the ball and walk up to the line. Their dads usually have to tell them not to step over the line, and while you’re at it, tie your shoes. The bowler stands, and swings through their open legs. Bowlers usually have better scores if the foam noodles are in place in the gutters.

    A lot of this advice was really solid. One thing you’ll see for all pro two handers is they have much later timing than what is typical since the two handed back swing is so short. In this video you say to push off in the first step and you’ll see Belmo won’t push off until halfway through his second step and the ball won’t pass his hips until he plants his 3rd step. Much later timing than advised in this video

      @@realaverageatbest Could you do a second video where you explain how you set up. Go from holding the ball, the tilt on the body and all things.
      Its hard to go from start with ball to kind of walking sideways. Then also having that hopping step:) I am improving, but sideways walking is still an issue, and Just doing the 2 step or 3 step drill is fine. With the start and transition into the aproach is more difficult and i really like how you explain.
      Your game is awsome. If you can get even more swing controll at the last step you will be golden. Seems like you use to much effort and its there you lose lot of pins/accuracy. In your backswing if you get your elbow in, you will be more on the inside of the ball. That means even of tougher patterns you ball will have lenght and hook when others struggle.
      I have been bowling and coaching since 1993. Its fun to learn this and also doing what fit my body type the best.

    Great video, thank you! I've been bowling 2 handed for 13 years now, I average 215ish depending on the house. I've shot four 300s and one 800 series but I've honestly just been winging the 2 handed approach. My release is perfect but footwork and backswing needed some serious work. Learned a lot from this, thank you!

    I’m 58 and just got back into bowling from a 30 year break ( 2 handers would’ve been laughed out of the house back then) but I love to watch them and am seriously considering switching my game , at least for my strike shots , not sure if I can do spares two handed or not lol. Is it ok to go 2 handed with a ball that’s got a thumb hole?

      I'm 61 and have returned to bowling after a 24 year hiatus. I've always been a straight bowler but I'm struggling at the moment, probably because of age lol. Got a new 12lb ball and bowled between 160 and 186 on the first night I used it but recently things have gone right downhill to the point where I've struggled to get 100 to 120😢 and I kinda know what I'm doing wrong, which is letting the ball release too late and hooking it across my body and when I try to correct that I end up having the ball go out to the right, basically I'm all over the shop and just getting frustrated. Last week I watched some videos and decided to try to swing the ball. Lots of misses, gutter balls and just plain awful balls which is to be expected I suppose. But then I got a strike, curled the ball in beautifully and that gave me renewed hope. My score of 53 was not an issue as scoring was not important. After watching these tutorials on two handed bowling in gonna give it a go tonight. I think it may suit me well. Wish me luck lol.

    Hi, when you talk about the approach you say "there is 2 ways of doing this" id say its about infinite ways of doing it, everyone will have their own style and need to find their own style to feel comftorable , sure you should take inspiration and learn from others but you shouldnt constrict yourself into "the perfect style" . me and my brother both bowl 2 handed but we cant have more different styles.

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  Рік тому +1

      Exactly! I only mentioned the 2 ways of doing it as I’d think of the hop stop and the normal walking approach as just two “benchmark” styles for two handed bowling. There are definitely infinite possibilities for different styles and different approaches. It’s all about finding what works for you and gets the pins to fall down the most for you

    I have only started bowling 2-handed after having some wrist and forearms issue playing 1-handed for sometime. Watched almost every content I could find on 2-handed bowling. Followed their instructions and pushed off on my right foot, on the second step, as a right-handed bowler. I felt the timing for me was off. Experimented with pushing off on the left foot and your video here just gave me confidence that I can also push off with the left foot. You were the only one that taught to push off on the left. I am in Canton! Great video. That "hop" in baseball is called a crow hop and is used to get the ball from outfield to home etc (used to generate power). I have found my mph increases with a hop, or playing back set of dots because I almost speed walk.

    • @btarb242
      @btarb242 Рік тому +1

      the crow hop when throwing is more to get your body into position for an accurate throw after fielding without losing your forward momentum. Here's a video that breaks it down and offers the non-hop alternative. Though, my preference was always the crow hop. ua-cam.com/video/vMU7ds_WpiM/v-deo.html

    Any advice on getting your right arm fully extended and elbow locked as you start the down swing I have a issue of keeping my elbow bent through the whole swing

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  Рік тому +2

      I'd probably have to take a look at your full swing to get a good idea of what you need help on. As far as getting the arm locked into place, your best bet would be to make sure your push off step fully extends the ball away from your body. Then as you go through you approach, just letting the ball swing down and naturally bending your elbow towards the apex of the swing. You can also try the alternative style to 2 handed much like what Kyle Troup does where he doesn't bend his arm at all through the swing and keeps his arms fully extended. I suggest taking a look around UA-cam and watching videos on different 2 handed styles and finding which one works best for you. Hope this helps!

    What’s your advice for staying right of the head pin? Obviously move left but since transitioning I’ve found myself playing further left than ever. Basically throwing my shock from the gutter up 20. Took me a while to get comfortable with that lol. I see a ton of guys throw NY all night. I’ve had success with increasing my ball speed. My local houses stay pretty dry. Maybe a little weaker ball to transition into. Urethane ain’t it in a house shot.

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  Рік тому +7

      If the problem you are facing is that you see yourself getting too far left, then I would suggest getting a weaker ball that’s not urethane or working on going more up the back of the bowling ball. A lot of times people can get caught getting too around the ball and causing it to grab the lane early. So figuring out how to consistently bring down your axis rotation and being more up the back of the ball will hopefully help you out. Of course getting your speed up even more that what you have already will also help. Hope this helps! We will be doing a video in the future about this very topic so be on the lookout for that

  • @zachcounts7595
    @zachcounts7595 Рік тому +1

    I can't get any speed out of the ball. Am I understanding you right when you're saying that your speed is coming from the downward motion of the hopstep?

    • @realaverageatbest
      @realaverageatbest  Рік тому +1

      My main point is that a vast majority of your speed will come through your legs. The faster your legs move, theoretically the faster your speed is going to be. The downward motion of the hopstop is kind of an “extra boost” of speed by using the force of gravity as you come down from the hop if that makes sense

    If you're a taller guy, how do you get a lower release without pulling your hamstring? seems like if I try to go any lower, I injure myself constantly. So I have very little bend, and sometimes when I release the ball it bounces. Still get pretty decent results with where I'm at right now, I just can't imagine that bounce is very good for competition.

Then, when I figure that out, I look directly at the space between the dots and the arrows through my whole approach and try to go through my imaginary line as perfectly as possible. I’ll be honest, I don’t totally know the differences between the two. Of course it always comes down to a feel thing and whether it’s comfortable for you. One thing though is that you may not be able to be as versatile with the thumb in the ball then with the thumb out of the ball since it can sometimes hinder your ability to play certain hand positions. Overall I think it’s down to what works best for you. I’ve been doing 2 handed with no thumb for close to 6 years now and can say that it’s definitely more comfortable for me then with my thumb.
