You are the MAN! Spot on diagnosis. Spot on procedure. It took 10 minutes to access and get out. Ordered the part on Amazon and will be here in a couple days. Manually moved the door to allow overhead flow and now have cool air from above until then. All of your videos have been super helpful, so THANK YOU!

Hey Ford Tech. I did this today and it worked like a champ! Now my 2 kiddos arent sweating in this 100 degree TX heat. Thnk you, was fairly easy and I am a woman :) They had the part for 49 at Oreilly up the street. Thnk again...

Thank you, thank you and thank you... If I can do this anyone can... I watched this video for a month trying to decide if I should do it or just let the shop do it... I was able to replace both temperature blend door and this one the air distribution actuator... It took about 3 hours and the hardest part was getting the new one to line up..and everything together cost roughly $100... Thanks so much... P. S. And I didn't break my gel nails 💅

Great video. I lived with the clicking for a year then it finally broke on the floor mode. I never dove into fixing it as I didn't want to remove the panel. With your video I removed the actuator case moved the door to roof mode, wedged a broken drill bit to hold it open and replaced the case cover. Left it unplugged and a total fix for me as I only wanted air to come out the roof vent. Cost $0 and time 15 minutes.

Great idea! I did something similar. Instead of wedging a device in the shaft's gear while inside the actuator case, I removed the shaft and drilled a very small hole in the nylon gear and wired it in the "roof position" to a repositioned screw that I was no longer using. I put the actuator case in bubble wrap so it wouldn't rattle and inserted it back into the compartment for the next person who ends up with my 2003 Navigator. I never use the back of the Navigator for heater, just AC. Cost: zero. Mr. Makuloco, thank you for the detailed video.

My husband and I love your videos. We've saved so much time and money on repairs because your videos are so thorough. After replacing our sway bar linkages and a worn out wheel hub, I realized I should check if you had a video about the rear air distributor click. I had already disconnected power to the actuator to get the sound to stop. I just figured the problem was much more involved than just replacing the actuator. I was totally wrong. Thank you!

I changed mine because it was clicking (05 Expedition E.B.). I pulled the old one off to check before changing and had problems finding a spot where it would match the shaft to the bolt holes. Most of the time when I pushed the shaft in, it would have the case of the actuator shifted. When I installed the new one( a dorman actuator that was just slightly different enough that no parts changed to the original one) it did the same thing. I ended up having to open it up and re-clock the shaft on the next gear so it would all fit. I thought that was better than forcing it to align. It was actually pretty far off. It all works now and seems to open full each way. Thanks for the great videos.

I used this video to remove, "rebuild" and reinstall the actuator on my 2003 Expedition XLT. Mine had the D-shaped shaft, so to avoid a parts mix-up, I just swapped out the smallest gear inside the actuator; half the teeth had been stripped. My smallest gear was nearly identical to what this video shows at 6:00 I got the replacement gear on Amazon for $20. Going strong 1 month later. Thanks FordTechMakuloco and BlendDoor.

Makuloco - thanks for creating this video. I had the same issue with my 2003 Ford Expedition. Your clear instructions and video gave me the confidence needed to try this repair myself. I ordered the part from Amazon and installed it within 15 minutes with no issues. It now works great and I know I saved lots of $$$ if I had taken it to the Ford dealer. Thanks again!!

Used this video to replace both the temperature blend actuator and air distribution actuator for 2005 EB Expedition. Only took about 30-40 minutes and about $80 worth of parts. Spend the money on the wrench, trust me. Great video, thanks!

In this video, this actuator is for the ceiling. Right?
And in the first video that was for the floor?

  • @mrpeterpumpkin48
    @mrpeterpumpkin48 7 років тому

Excellent video. Easy to follow and thorough.
We are taking the car on a short trip. For now, I disconnected the molex supplying power to the actuator. AC continues to blow through the ceiling vents, which is fine for us. What will happen if we do not replace this upper actuator? (The lower actuator is working fine as far as we can tell). Will we just lose the ability to switch from ceiling to floor vent? Or will it affect the heat when the weather turns cold?

So great video, since I was in, I replaced both units. Clicking has stopped, door moved back and forth with the old lever. After market didn't fit, filed it down, got it in. Now to test, the blower works great, bit when moved from up above to floor, the door doesn't open and close, stays coming out of the ceiling. The door moved back and forth with ease, but now its not working. Any ideas??

Thank you for this video! I have a question about the a slightly different problem that I can't seem to find an answer to on UA-cam and am hoping you might be able to help. My 2006 Expedition with Manual A/C controls has defaulted to the Defrost setting and only blows out of those vents no matter what position I put it in. Some vids show the vacuum actuators behind the glove box but behind mine is a huge black box that is bolted shut and not sure how to begin looking for the problem. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide! Your channel ROCKS! C.

There mist be a difference in actuators for this vs a blend door. The one I got from the part store doesn’t work. It looks like the incoming power switches polarity and a normal actuator won’t work that way. There’s no dealer nearby so how do I make sure I have the right actuator?

Hello! I have recently purchased an 04 Expedition and I am having a couple of HVAC problems. The first is that the A/C and Heat in the seats does not appear to work. I am confused as to which fuse would cause this or if it would be another problem. My other problem is that the rear blower does not work at all. It worked when for a short amount of time and then would only occasionally work and now it does not work at all. It does not matter if it is set to the roof vents or the lower vents. I have tried it on both heat and cool and on all fan speeds and there is still nothing.
I have noticed however that there is that "A/C sound" I don't know how else to describe it as I am not very familiar with HVAC or auto repairs but that is like the hissing sound that any air conditioner makes. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you in advance!

I don't have an expedition, however, I do have an 02 Explorer what wont respond to when changing heat settings nor will it change from floor to ceiling settings. I'm guessing the explorers use the same type of actuators the expeditions do. I don't hear any clicking and there are no blown fuses. Can the gears get striped to the point where you wont hear anything? The blend door actuator at the front (in the dash) is however clicking so I know I'm going to have to replace that one (saw your video on how to do that one).
