I think it is both. Only when a natural urge to be competitive is properly nurtured do we get a "super-competitive" individual. Having one factor alone will mean you are competitive but having both will make you top-tier in respect to your attitude to competition.
This is such a great point, with proper nurturing and equal opportunity many people may not be exposed to an environment which allows them to be competitive and thrive. Do you think there's any way we're able to encourage people to be competitive when they don't have access to those things?
This is interesting. I did the 23&Me test which confused the hell out of me. It says I have the ACTN3 R577X variant which I'm guessing is the 'RX' variant and not the RR one (one working genre and one silenced one?). Yet the test also says that I have rs1815739 type CC (instead of CT or TT) which I've seen some people call the 'RR' variant. Any help on clarifying this would be massively appreciated 🙏
I found out I that have that ACTNM3 RX , I can pretty much put on muscle size in short time and I can sprint for short time but sometimes I find it hard running for long time . I train Endurance with strength
I definitely feel like competitiveness is at least partially genetic. Im super competitive in some things but have no interest in competing in sports. Like no drive at all and have never had it. Argue politics with me though…😅
It’s my understanding that there a few companies that will do your genetic testing for you! I imagine it would be rather expensive, but I’m really not sure how accurate it is as I’ve never known anyone who has used them before!
RR is just one end of the spectrum! :) whether or not you’re an elite athlete depends on whether or not you train etc, genes aren’t the only thing that matter!

That makes sense! How did you find out and has it changed the way you train?
Same, my stamina is terrible but I’m very strong for my size

I tend to agree! I wonder if it's do to with what our parents / siblings were doing as well?
How do you test yourself for those genes?

RR mean that 90% are élite athletes??
