ATTEMPTING D&D MONSTER LANGUAGES
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2024
- Many DMs and players enjoy speaking in-character, but rarely ever have I seen someone voice act the unique languages of monsters. Maybe it's because they're so strange. Well embarrassment be damned, I'm here to take a crack at voicing the bizarre and monstrous vocalizations that are categorized all over the monster manual.

you heard it here first guys, earth elementals beatbox
Clacky Jack and the Crag Canyon Beatboxers
I usually do terran as more grindy
Like a rockslide
Beatboxing + hamboning
I am speechless for your dedication. And no, it's not meant to be a pun. Good work.
Good thing it wasn't puntended
Drow. Also known as: the French Elves :) And it even kinda fits the theme of war between the Drow (the French) and the rest of the Elves (English).
Also - doesn't Aboleths communicate only telepathically? Do such communication even lets the recipient "hear" the accent, or he just makes it up in his own mind? I imagine there could be hundred pages long books in the D&D worlds universities on that matter...
Aboleths speak Deep Speech
You're right, I forgot about that.
Gith gave me Russian vibes. Abyssal felt german.
All this time, I have been doing my Drow with an Australian accent....because they are from....down....under....
I'll just show myself out...
The drow language is described as melodious like the other languages but with some guttural sounds thrown in in one of the Legend of Drizzt books, and looking at their names, that makes sense
Have you considered taking up beat boxing? That earth elemental was spitting fire!
No, that would be the fire elemental
That's a Lava Elemental...
Listen, don’t want to *bury* your happiness, butActually, it would be spitting *dirt.*
are you sure that wasn't the fire elemental?
The earth elemental sounded like beat boxing! I loved it
Thanks Bryce! I was quite pleased with how that one turned out
Drow sounds a bit like a French Klingon? Lol, but in all seriousness, I really like the approach and think you had some great ideas.
You solved my problem on how to interpret the elementals' voices. Thank you! I never thought about doing that
those were the most challenging ones without a doubt
I love how you made Drow Elvish sound French, because High Elves sound somewhat French in my campaign.
Imagine coming home from work and hearing your neighbor doing this
Sometimes when I'm upset I sit in the floor and chant nonsense in a deep powerful voice, I may or may not be summoning a demon
Nightmare X sounds like you may be the demon...
Doctor:You have 7 minutes to livr
Me: watches for 6:15 and spends the other 45 laughing
This should totally become a series you do every so often so as to not hurt your voice. Also, am I the only one who found it funny that the Drow also sounded a bit French?
And for my first vote, I say you should do voices for kobalds, since you already set the standard for draconic, goblins and hobgoblins, since I believe the all speak goblin language as the bugbears do, and catfolk, cause I adore catfolk.
I do hope you do more of this type of video, because it both cool and useful. I stress the idea of language in my games a lot, especially to show just how diverse my worlds are and the need for players to both work together and smarter so they all can get through challenges in one piece.
Luna Star I just notcied thst Drow sounds French after reading this
Doesn't sound out of place to me, since I've always imagined Elves as vaguely French.
Yep I put some Frenchy bits in there ;)
What do you mean?
Not being able to speak French, it's just French but it sounds evil.
Only more evil than a character with a British accent.
This is pretty cool and something that's real helpful for people trying to improve realism. I always liked how they described the languages (such as Ignan being described as a fire popping), but it's hard to emulate that.
Also, someone needs to edit this to add audio from Tim and Eric or something over it.
Keep up the great work Esper!
Hi Esper! Did you know that there is a lore based Drowic language?
Please try saying these from FOR2 Drow of the Underdark, p 102.
_Jal khaless zhah waela._ (All trust is foolish.)
_Oloth zhah tuth abbil lueth ogglin._ (Darkness is both ally and enemy)
_Lolth tlu malla; jal ultrinnan zhah xundus!_ (Lolth be praised; all victory is her doing!)
_Khaless nau uss mzild taga dosstan._ (Trust no one more than yourself.)
and one more...
_Natha ditronw'urn k'lar il'tess dos wun l'Phrengen Phor, wun l'Thac'zil d'l'Zhennu Ssussun. Doer wun gre'as'anto, lu'dro harl l'sssiks 'sohna, vel'klar lorugen lu''anonen knan._
grymhild what is the traduction of the last one?
JULIO DURAN
_"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace and live beneath the sun again where trees and flowers grow."_

This is hilarious but being silly is an important part of role-playing and players appreciate a GM that gets into it 😂❤️
This is hilarious. I may start doing this myself in my campaign.
Go for it man! It adds a whole new layer of energy and personality to the experience
That moment when you do what I do in my car with NPC languages...
solo NPC voice practice for life
Absolutely, no better way to drive to work alternating between singing along to the energetic driving music du jour (metal, it's metal, it's always metal) and reciting/practicing NPC monologues or having short conversations with yourself in your own constructed languages.
You NEED to do a part 2. This was amazing!
Turn on the subtitles :) Awesome stuff Esper ;)
2:34 Pelecanos a fool under the bell look there's a star due to Vendanta Dimitar it's animal clear civic with a certain pattern or stone demands. (that is eerily relevant as I'm listening to Maps of Meaning by Jordan Peterson this very moment)
The Aboleth part creeped the hell out of me :D
4:52 "Bully work Libyan blah blah in hotel"
Some of these were amazing. I especially loved the bugbear, air elemental and the bullywug.
Fascinating. Evocative. Super imaginative.
I'd pay DAMN GOOD MONEY for you to do more of these videos! This is so freaking INDISPENSABLE to me as a DM without an inner dialogue or mental pictures!
Please. Do. More.
THIS WAS THE BEST THING I'VE SEEN/HEARD ALL YEAR! 😭😭😭😭😭
For tiefling infernal, I channel a lot of aggressive sounds. Very few soft vowels. Hard and aggressive, maybe channeling Jason Mamoa speaking Dothraki?
Yes, I am watching a video of a guy making funny sounds
This is insanely impressive!! I'm using the Aboleth example for deep speech! 😍
Really cool voices Esper! These are fun videos; I'd love to see and hear more of them! The Gith sounded very arrogant the way I would expect him too, I think the Drow in spite of their evil nature would sound more beautiful like a high elf still. Just my opinion of course, you did a great job!
Damn this rocks!!! I’m hoping you make more of this stuff
This is extremely entertaining :) as someone who enjoys conlangs as much as dnd (though I’m just starting) this made me excited to experiment more with the role play side.
Also I feel like your Drow sounded like they had a very French-inspired dialect
These were great and well thought out! Thanks for the inspiration!
"Man makes crazy sounds into microphone for 6 full minutes."
This is the strangest ASMR video I have ever watched
I must say, I love this, additionally, the ones where you smiled and look like you're just having a good time were easily my favorites.
Im about to make another account to give this another thumbs up.
Awesome job
i love it! i do the same thing when I DM. the difficulty is to not make the same noise over again like "ash" and "vel'adai", whatever it is, you'll tend to repeat sounds, but for languages you try to center it around certain sounds and letters, so it's difficult. excellent job tho bro
Dude these were awesome, well done 👍
Looked this up so I have some idea on how to voice my first Dragonborn character. Friggin' awesome, I felt like I was watching developer diaries for a new video game :D thank you so much for straining your voice and putting this out there!
why are the drow french
Pretty sure that Githyanki just insulted my mother.
In all seriousness though, bravo! Very impressive! :D The only thing missing is the owlbear. ;)
the green dragon actually sounds so amazing
Thoroughly impressed! Good work man. Totally going to implement this now.
Gnoll is going to be interesting to try out.
They sound really eerily like something the creatures would sound like. The Aboleth sounded awesomely blood-curdeling.
Niiice, I really expected there to be a lot of content about DnD languages... But doesn't seem so.
I’d love to hear you try dwarves, deep gnomes and Thri-keen.
O ah eh uh Uaha - legit aboleth
I was especially impressed by the elemental ones! Good job!
Oh boy, I loved this video! :D
Super well done, all these are spot on 👏🏻
Cool shit...thanks for posting! If you don't already, you should definitely sing for a metal band.
this was hella fun x3 i admire your dedication
I love these! Please make a part 2! Maybe a series, please? :D
This is the greatest video for roleplaying creatures ever. Of all time.
drow sound like someone swearing at me in french
This helps cause i was working on a half-orc who is somehow fluent in primordial but otherwise is an idiot and cant speak properly. I'd like to think he sees an elemental and goes "no worry, me speak rock" fallowed by clicks and pound on his chest to communicate with something to which normally cant be communicated with.
the gith sound like drunk russians
lmao they do
BRO. this is like my favourite thing I've found 🥺🤣 I'm amused and In awe 😱 I'm sending this to my party so we can all bully eachother for speaking funky languages. I LOVE THIS
ALSO THAT GITHYANKI THO OOOOF 🥰❤💖💕🔥 UNDERRATED
Thanks! Enjoy making strange noises at one another
I expected you to REEEE when it came to the bullywug
The draconic one sounds fucking badass
A friend of mine is having trouble trying to rollplay his Aarakocra. Any pointers for that would be so appreciated.
Nice video btw! Loved the elementals.
Ahaha just found this channel and I love it!😂 keep it up
I've got a big new one in the works right now. It should be up within a couple days.
Imagine a earth elemental sounds like rockbiter. A bullywug seems like it'd sound like boss bas. Nice work Buddy.
Holy shit this was awesome. Definitely do more of these. Empyreans and angels, as well as devils and arch devils would be sweet
Would be also interesting, how a standard race, like a human would sound when speaking or trying to speak different languages you can start your adventuring with
Your Drowish sounded French
This was strangely satisfying and I want more
You take that back! My mother was a SAINT!
I'm trying to figure out what celestial sounds like.
Well since you've started so well...haha! Maybe continue through the MM!?
This was great
The Gith sounded like twi'lek from Star Wars which I thought was s p o t o n
he is speaking in hollow knight
Yo these are so good!!
Favorite was the aboleth, pretty cool
Oh god. So the race I play as apparently accidentally uses draconic while speaking in common, so this was a livesaver to figure out what draconic sounds like.
Earth elemental have the cool language. I think fire elemental in color or explosion
lol. Thanks Esper.
I always thought of elementals sounding like there element. So earth elementals sounding like grating and cracking stone and fire elementals sound like sparkes and pops of a campfire. And so on
For water elementals, I believe Taliesin Jaffe covered the steps.
Step 1: Sip some water without swallowing.
Step 2: Gargle the water, changing mouth shape at random.
Do the sound an owlbear makes when its eyeballs explode
Drow be like: *F r e c h n e s s i n t e n s i f i e s*
I'm impressed 👍 great job
Drow speak French confirmed
The glabrezu sounds like an angry vortigaunt from half life
Do the Aboleth speak Deep Speech?
Elf = french
Green dragon = dothraki
Grell = Zac psychicpepples
Bullywug = jabba the hutt
the gith one was fucking amazing
Wooowwww can u do how devils speak?
lol, drow sounded like you were trying to speak english with the thickest french accent I've ever heard
The Aboleth's version of Deep Speech terrifies me.
I would love to see your interpretation of Sylan as well as other languages!!!
To me, Fire Elemental sounds like a swishier version of Mordor/Black Speech
I'm trying to figure out if the Gith sound more like Russian or Chinese? Probably a mix of the two?
That was oddly satisfying to ME too, tbh. I need Drow ASMR asap.
(I'm just kidding please don't kill your voice trying to make ASMR with the Drow accent I don't want to pay the medical bills for a new voice box.
Drow=Very sappy frenchmen.
drows talking a sort of French ^w^ (jk)
Hes really good
You heard it right here, Drow are just French Elves, no surprise here
Is this the guy who voiced the spore characters?
1:20 didn't know you were the Korn vocalist damn
You'd be pro at acting as GM / DM
