Clean and oil it lightly and get u a wrist brace to use till u shoot it a while it will help if u limp wrist it with out knowing u r doing it had a friend did same thing let some one at the range that’s a good shooter shoot it see if it happens to them that will tell h if it’s the gun or u lol 😂
@@SMASHTIME ok that sucks lot of money he’ll might as well got a cheep rock island lol tell Kimber they owe u a case of ammo lol for the waste and the trouble
Looks like most of the “jams” were failures to extract. It appears the extractor was not properly tuned before the gun left Kimber as it failed to hold onto the case rim long enough for the ejector to kick the case free of the ejection port.
A quick internet search resulted in the solution of increasing the tension on the extractor. It would take maybe 15 minutes to remove and bend the extractor and see if it works. There are numerous UA-cam videos on the procedure. Seems a lot easier than sending the gun back and waiting.
@@SMASHTIME there are several videos on youtube about how to tune your extractor, its super easy. Its lame that its not perfect from the factory but i'd just do it yourself and save yourself the hassle of shipping it.
Jim M..I totally agree with your assessment about the extractor. That was the first thing I thought when I saw the images. Definitely an extraction problem.
My $375 RIA 1911 is hands down the best purchase I've ever made. For those who can't afford the more expensive 1911's, this firearm will not disappoint.
I bought a used colt mk iv series 70 gold cup national match. Took it out today and put 50 rounds through it. Man, it is the sweetest shooting 1911 I've ever owned. Solid, no failures, accurate and so sweet to shoot. It was made in 1982 and it's the best I've ever owned. I've owned dozens of 1911s over the last 30 years. This thing is the best.
I used to work in a major gun store for a while. I can tell you this, all Kimber 1911 are beautiful. If you buy one and you might be using manufacturer brand's magazine, your Kimber WILL failed. It's almost guaranteed. However, if you use Wilson Combat 1911 mags, your Kimber will shine. No jams. So Kimber Rapide is NOT the "worst" 1911. It's actually perfectly created. You have to use "Wilson Combat" mags.
Two recommendations for you, 1. Buy Wilson Combat or Tripp Research Cobra 10mm 1911 Magazines. 2. Make sure you are not limp wristing, 10mm 1911’s are less forgiving in our vast experience. - B9USA
I love my kimber custom ll, fact of matter is kimber mags are shit. First 200 rounds same problem, but wilson mags were late in mail. After mag change no problem over 3k rounds last year. Run fmj and hollows...pmc, blazer, federal, geco, fiocchi no problem
@@brianbridges1401 Rather than 500 rounds. Recommend manual break in of slide rails, locking surfaces, link pin and slide stop pivot, and bushing/barrel to start with a new 1911. -Eject magazine and make sure firearm is clear. Make sure pisto l is lubricated with a thin oil. -Grab pistol in shooting hand, Move forearm to rest across body, grab top of slide with other hand. -Run though 200 manual cycles. Don't let go of slide, just run it through its full cycle. Quick easy, can do in front of TV without burning ammunition -Breakdown pistol and clean in the recesses firmly and thoroughly with qtips and cleaning solvent. Even on stainless pistols, they'll come out a little black. Excess microscopic material as the surfaces mate. -Relube, reassemble, run another 2-300 cycles manually as above . -Breakdown and clean again, making sure you are in those mating surface recesses. -Reassemble and relube. Those parts now mated and broken in. Eliminates them as a point of failure / binding in further testing, though may not fully break in slide stop to lower lug mating area as the slide stop pin slides on this area. Failures after that probably magazine related, extractor related, or barrel fitment / profiling issues Trying a variety of magazines may be in order, yes. Mecgar round followers vs say Wilson's flat or concave follower. My DW Specialist in 10mm HATES the Wilsons nylon follower with just about every commercial ball ammo in the 180 grain range, Runs so so with the flat metal follower. Runs well with the rounded follower Metalforms Too much bend i/tension n the internal extractor can make it hard for a round to slip under, as can a sharp edge at the bottom. Too little tension and tit can slip off the case rim while cycling. Requires a quality steel part, not MIM of course.
I had a issue with my Kimber 1911 45acp. It was the factory magazines. I had a gunsmith tell me they were junk and try a different mag. Once I did, it shot fine
0 wiggle in a 1911 translates to "I'm gonna jam and stack until you either break me in or get the stones out and work the slide rails." Kimbers are expensive pimp guns. All those fancy cuts get mud, dirt, trash in them at the most inopportune times. They complicate a simple pistol. Meant to be simple and reliable. Sure, those high viz, high mount sights are nice. But they tend to catch on the leather. Fancy stuff can get you killed.... I'll take a cheap ass Rock Island 1911 and put a few hours into it and get a very reliable and accurate enough pistol for a whole lot less. That will clear the holster faster. Put pearl grips on the Kimbers and display them to show how much money one can waste on a pimp gun. Kimber earned my distrust with unreliable pistols. I see they haven't changed much......
Agree most beautiful piece of junk I ever had. For that kind of money it should be reliable . Most people make excuses for them. And people make jokes about a 169.00 hi point? Good honest video.
@@rkow8508 They are the high point of 1911s, pretty paper weights that don't function. No honest 1911 owner would ever carry or ever buy them. They sell to people who don't know any better
I know what I’ve always considered to be a serious gun guy and when he went and bought a couple of 1911s for he and his wife and told me he bought Kimber‘s I had to bite my tongue. If I didn’t I would’ve had to say something like oh you bought a couple of jam o matics.
@@keithbays2724 I like my 1911s a little loose. And I grease the rails on the frame and a couple drops of oil on the slide rails. Then I rack it till it stops pumping lube. Wipe it off and all good
My 1911 Army from 1973 never misfires, ever. Two words for you Sig Sauer. Friends $3000.00 Kimber 1911 had the sights falling off the first day on the range..what a piece of.,..
$1600. It's all about looks and name. My Colt Government Model (.45 ACP) cost half that and works flawlessly. It is over 10 years old, but I don't remember ever having any problems with it. Now that CZ has bought Colt, who knows? If you want a high end 1911, I suggest Wilson Combat. But in .45, not 10mm.
First thing I did when I purchased my Springfield 1911, 45acp, was switch out the piece of crap magazines that came with it to Wilson Combat mags. Almost 2 years and lots of rounds with no problems. Something to keep in mind. Maybe try one magazine and see what happens. Wish you the best of luck with that Kimber.
My SA 1911 was defective out of the box. Sent it back to SA. Bought some WC 1911 .45 ACP mags a few years ago. The welds broke. They were defective. WC replaced them. Lesson learned: 1911s are problematic. If you want flawless performance, buy a Glock.
Get a Rock Island and some Wilson Combat mags and you’ll never have any problems. And it will be half the cost. Fit and finish is just as good as newer Kimbers IMO. You just won’t have any of those fancy cuts in the slide but who needs that anyway. It’s a 1911. Just my two cents.
Ken: I've bought two Rocks. One a rack grade 11A1 and a Rock CS Ultra Tac II .45ACP. Great well made guns, great price. I'll pass on the gun safe queens! Expensive doesn't always equate to better. Three years back I bought a Taurus G2C 9mm $218 out the door. At the time I was told they were junk. Now you can't find any except way overpriced (double) and only good reviews. In addition if you ever have to use it in a self defense mode the police will more than likely seize it and you'll play heck getting it back and it'll probably take $$$$ in lawyer fees to do so. $200-300 weapon I can walk away from. $1600 not as easy because some cop will want it for themselves.
Kenneth McCullough I agree I have the Rock Island double stack 10 mm. I have had for about a year now and it runs great. For the money it's hard to beat. I also have the 9 mm and it's a good gun also.
I had the same issue with my 10mm Rapide. Sent to Kimber, kinda fixed it, then it got worse. Then I polished the extractor and that worked for a while. After that failed, I bought a Wilson Combat Extractor for 70 series 1911's and Voila! No more issues period. I love it now. Still the coolest looking 10mm 1911 out there in my opinion. Too bad it had to be massaged.
@@hoppinggnomethe4154 Well I wouldn’t say waste of money it just needed a fix. I still think it’s one of the prettiest 1911‘s out there. But no more Kimber’s for me.
I bought a Kimber, fought through intermittent ftf/fte issues for the first 1,000 rounds. Looked nice, was accurate, but less than reliable. Took it to my gunsmith and for $75 it is now as reliable as my Rock Island and Taurus. It is a nice looking piece but you shouldn't have to have new$1,000 guns reworked to equal a $500 gun.
@@mikeyKnows_ Mostly it was a trigger job, adjusted the springs and installed a different extractor. He also polished the mating surfaces which took him longer than just a tune up. It was dang near a tack driver after that. I named it Luke. Over a couple of years he worked on most of my 1911s (yep, lost them all in the boating accident) , when he was done the Rocks and Tauruses shot the same as the Kimber and Para. He closed his shop about the time Covid shut down everything.
9 times out of 10 its a extractor tuning issue, sometimes its a stiff recoil spring, sometimes magazine, and with 1 taurus I had it was a mix of too long of an ejector and an improperly tuned extractor
Kimbers are a horrible company that makes non functional firearms, they never fit their guns right. My nighthawk is a tight fit but eats everything I feed it. The kimbers are never built right. They a gold plated turds. For what his cost he could have gotten a Springfield TRP that is combat rated 1911.
20 years ago, I bought a Kimber Tactical II lightweight. Back then it cost $1K. I could not get that firearm to be reliable. Different ammo, magazines, polished the feed ramp etc….. I sold it and took a loss. I have not bought another Kimber 1911 since.
Kimber has had serious quality control issues for the last 15 years. A local Central Florida SWAT team changed all of theirs out for Glocks. They even had Kimber Factory reps come down numerous time to replace parts.
@@SMASHTIME I had a Kimber 1911 about 20 years ago and it was incredibly reliable and well-made. I really don't know what's happened to them. When that SWAT team traded them out for Glocks they ended up selling them back to the SWAT team members for $400 a piece. By that time all the mim parts had been replaced with milled parts but they were still not reliable. They even tried several high-end magazines like Chip McCormick and Wilson.
I have a 2019 kimber custom ii that has been absolutely reliable no matter what ammo i use. They sell more 1911s than any other manufacturer so youll tend to hear more stories of issues. Also i tend to not take anyone with personal experience with them seriously. I have had more issues with my glock than i have with my kimber yet i’m sure all you hear about glock is theyre the most reliable handguns made.
Kimber used to send a little notice with every pistol that said a 500 round break in period was required before it would become reliable. But yeah, 1600.00 bucks is a lot of money for a handgun. And it should run regardless. Sell it and pick up an RIA 10mm Ultra HC. I paid 1100 for mine and it is a freaking MACHINE!! I THINK it came with 3 mags but honestly I don't remember. No failures period. Its a lot of handgun.
Those weight reducing holes in the slide may be contributing to your problem. They may give it a "cool custom look" but they lighten the weight of the slide. The lighter the slide, the faster it will cycle. If it cycles too fast you start having ejection/double feed problems. There is a very fine balance between slide weight and proper functioning/cycling. This is a lesson I learned back in the 1970's, with the development of the the original Detonics pistol in Seattle.
Still troubleshooting my WC CQB LE with failure to return to battery on shots 5,6,7 or shots 6,7,8. Adjusted extractor, cleaned, lubed, cleaned, etc. About 600 rnds in and maybe its finicky about ammo.
Yeah but still it shouldnt be like this.. after 12 mags it shouldnt jam thats for sure. Even with a tight tolerance production 1911 it has to work reliably with ball ammot out of the box - hollow points should not jam either after 12 mags really.
You might need a lighter recoil spring because there are lightning cuts in the slide and it is throwing it out of whack because of the weight difference, I don’t know, just a guess
@@SMASHTIME Return it or play around and get a lighter recoil spring or a new extractor..its them who fucked up the gun so I guess they should either fix it, give you a completely new one or give you back the money spent on it.
How come the jams are shown as stuck shells after the shots are fired. Why not capture when the jams actually occured while shooting. Why not the firing footage? I can place an empty shell in such a way that it looks like from a jam and then turn on my camera.
Not getting a spare crappy Kimber mag is no great loss. As for the titanium nitride coated barrel, I don't see the need or the benefit of this coating, nor of the cutouts in the slide, which seem to be an invitation for gunk or water to enter your pistol.
😂 it’s for looks but actually the coating is slick and will last longer than black nitride and technically the slide cuts will lower recoil by lower overall mass on the slide and as for gunk in the pistol if you carry a Rapide for self defense and crawl through the mud you are an idiot
That's disappointing to hear. I bought a Kimber micro 380 for my daughter and we have put 3000 rounds through it with almost "zero" failures. And, I really wanted to buy this gun.
You bought a Kimber. It’s good that it only comes with one magazine. You need to throw that magazine away anyway. Also, Kimber says that you need to run 500 rounds through the gun to break it in. This saves Kimber 15 minutes worth of polishing. That’s just part of owning a Kimber. I’ve owned 12 Kimber’s. Only one ran without issues. All of the rest were fixable, but Kimber service was useless.
I’ve always heard of Kimber pistols referred to as jam o matics. I would sure love to have one of the Oregon made bolt action rifle’s in a left hand model.
I only own 1 Kimber out of my 10+ collection and honestly I’ve never had an issue with it. It’s a stainless raptor 2 so idk if it’s the model or what but it’s probably got well over 2000 rounds threw it with only 2 or 3 fails to extract. I blame the cheap ammo I was using.
I have put over a thousand through my custom 2 in the past 6 months and I had one failure to eject within the first 100 rds , none since, I just polished the internals a day ago and the snap caps go uneven smoother now, so I think I am even better now, my Kimber is deadeye accurate even with my weak hand holding it! Love my custom 2! Maybe 10mm needs tuning more than .45!
Who thought it was not going to be a Kimber? Maybe try working the slide several hundred times to decrease spring tension and smooth metal interfaces in the slide? IDK!
For that price- yes it should work out of the box, and yes it should come with more than one magazine. The failures that you showed are characteristic of improper extractor adjustment. This would be easy to fix in just a few minutes, you could do it yourslef, not worth the trouble of sending it back. This has nothing to do with tolerances and nothing to do with break-in. If your friend is a "1911 expert" he should know all of this.
I’m starting to realize people have no concept of how manufacturing works and what it costs. 1911 style pistols were meant to be made with certain tolerances. Do some research on the test Browning did to prove the reliability of his design. The problem is that when you manufacture ultra tight 1911 pistols at the narrow end of all the tolerances, there is a TON of hand fitting that is needed to make them work reliably. Otherwise you have shoot the living crap out of them to break them in. If you want a custom/precision 1911 that is fully hand fitted, bedded, and broken in, guys like Les Baer and Ed Brown will happily exchange $3000+ of your dollars for a brand new “match grade” 1911 that shoots flawlessly.
Ha! I've lived in Tennessee for almost 10 years now but I still recognize Rayford/Sawdust. Thank you for representing the true nature of your experience and not trying to sugarcoat everything like most reviewers do. You think Kimber's customer service knew you were a youtuber with thousands of followers when they were dealing with your issue?
I have carried and shot 10MM, by 4 different manufacturers, for 30 years. The most common problem with double feeds and failures to extract, have been weak wrists and bent arms when shooting. Taken lots of friends and street smart shooters out with mine and they all had issues at first. This round can not be shot with the same grip as a .45, .40, or 9mm. It needs a commanding grip and stiff arm. You edit out your shooting that led up to the jam on the second magazine but you get the drill. I carry 10MM almost exclusively and carried it in a Glock for years on patrol.
1600.00 and the hassle to ship it back...... for Kimber to get it to work.... and have to wait 2weeks. I'll stick with RIA double stack 10mm 2x the rounds , a fraction of the price and no jams. Thank you for the video and saving me 1000.00
My only kimber would lock the slide open with 2 or 3 rounds still in the mag. Was never able to run a full mag thru it. Only new gun I had to send back to the manufacturer. I don’t own a kimber anymore.
Kimber: worst 1911 I ever owned! Went back to kimber 3 times & it never ran... could get one full mag to run through it. They kept telling me I need to put 1000 rds they it to get it to run reliably. Worst customer service I ever received! Nasty & condescending. Never will buy another Kimber. 5! 1911’s later (Ruger , 2 Springfields, Rock Island and a colt). No problems ever! 1911 is my go to carry, but never again a kimber!
Glad I found this vid. Had been eying the Rapides. My Rock Island 1911 also had plenty of jams initially, but changed to Wilson Combat mags, and after hundreds of rounds, no more jams (at least not any more than any other pistol when you're pushing her hard in training). All 1911's remind me of high-end foreign luxury cars. You pay for the "price of admission," nothing else. After that, it's on the buyer to determine what price point they're comfortable with to justify the amount of breaking-in, troubleshooting, and sorcery needed to dial in their particular 1911. Love the feel and experience of a 1911...absolutely would never trust them in a self-defense situation if I had other options.
In 2011 I bought a Kimber Ultra Raptor II. First range trip with it part of the hammer and sear broke. I had my gunsmith fix it and then I sold it. Never again.
The whole reason for 1911s is reliability. Period. Accuracy and durability are also of supreme , paramount importance. The weapon must fire, function and feed until the slide locks empty or you stop pulling the trigger. I have a 1918 manufactured Family Heirloom that does that. I have a 2020 manufactured Tisas that does that too. The Darth Vader gun wouldn't work? Custom 1911s have to work as well as their Mil Spec equivalents. Period. My friend owns Colt's Series 70 Gold Cup Match. This pistol was manufactured in the 70s . A superb , reliable and very accurate 1911. As reliable as my 103 year old 1911 or my $330 Tisas. What is the practical difference between a hand built pistol like thit Gold Cup Match and a World War One G.I. 1911 ? The G.I. will shoot to about 5" at 25 Yds. The Gold Cup shoots 21/2' - 3' (that is the best I can do with it. That pistol is very accurate ) . And both the G.I. and the Gold up are reliable. In ancient days Kimber was manufactured by hand. I seem to recall that they worked out of the box. Kimber has to start building out of box reliable guns again. Otherwise, they are just overpriced Movie Props. In the real world, a gun that malfunctions like that could get someone killed.
I have 7 Kimber 1911s. Four 45s, three 9s. Never had that issue. Have a Ruger 1911 that jammed just like yours. Changed magazine and never had that issue again.
It's been my experience, and used to be in the paperwork in the box, run 500 + rounds through a Kimber for the required breakin. The quickest way is to get some very fine grit polishing compound, put it on the slide rails, and operate the slide 500 or so times. The only part of a 1911 that needs to be tight is the barrel/slide lockup. No matter what ammo you use, your Kimber won't operate reliably until you break it in. I was breaking one in for my friend and shooting competitor and his didn't smooth out til after 750 rounds. His wife's took over 1000 rounds to break it in. Keep shooting it and deal with the jams. Practice timing how quick you can clear them. IT WILL CLEAR UP!
Got talked into a Rock Island Armory 10mm it was junk was told oh you must of got a bad one so got talked into another one JUNK .I waited on my 6 inch Kimber 10mm I knew better then to buy that other crap but I guess I needed a reminder that you get what you pay for.
I have carried one of the early custom TLE 2.s. every day since I think about 2008. I also have a stainless Raptor. In my opinion they are damn well worth the time and patience that it takes to break it in. A few things that I will mention,,, first of all it will not take long to line it out just fine. I do not run gun oil or gun grease,, I use petroleum jelly. I find that it sticks with me and doesn't thin out as fast as oil, and doesn't gum up like grease. Set around and play with it working the slide. I also tap my mags on my leg so that the rounds are down and back in the mag. Might not be necessary but I've got the habbit. Run only ball ammo, no self defence stuff until broke in. About 500 rounds should do it. I did change both mainspring housings from the plastic to steel with lanyard loops. Also installed 18 and a half pound Wilson Combat spring sets. I can say that they are quality made, reliable and very confidently carried. When it comes to shooting,, hold it so that it is in line with your arm bone, not out on your thumbs. It also helps to sleep with it . I hope you can take something from this you can use. CHEERS!
@@SMASHTIME fine,,, have it your way. I see everyone there is recommending a cheap gun instead , like a rock island. Well there are drawbacks to that that you are not realizing. We took my kimber and my son's RI to the 100 yard range. Aiming streight away at the target, my pistol made a nice little group about the size of my hand,, the rock islands rounds were hitting the dirt in front of the target. You can stick to your out of the box notion if you want but not me. Beeing able to be flexible and patient and learn from others will reward you with things that you will never have otherwise. I would not trade my kimber for a pile of cheap ass garbage. Because I realize that what I have now most guys like you will never have. It's all in how you look at things. The PROBLEMS you are having are nothing yet you turn them into insurmountable obstructions. My son now runs a Kimber and is very happy with it. But,,, some guys ya just can't reach! CHEERS!
My norinco 45 1911 that I purchased in 1990 for 300 dollars has out shot many of these "custom" 1911's at the range...the guys who own these high priced guns couldn't believe it! ONLY A FOOL PAYS THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR ANY GUN!
That 500 rounds is a myth. I have had many 1911s and the Break in period should be maybe 20 rounds. I ran 350 very expensive 10mm rounds through it. sent it in Kimber came back working fine after they fixed it.
Such a love hate relationship with Kimbers!! I have several. All had a long break in period. Not sure any Kimber is ready to shoot put of the box. But once their broken in their great pistols. Been there done that.
1911 chambered in 10mm always seem to have these issues ...all the videos I've watched on almost every 10mm 1811 regardless of manufacture has malfunctions out of the box ..once they get it worked on it runs nice.
In all fairness to Kimber ive had a Kimber Target 1911 in 45acp for over 30 years and have had ( ZERO ) problems with it. It's so good it's my EDC. Just saying!!! I use Kimber mag,s bought at the time I bought the pistol. I have 15 of them at around $12.00 each. ( dubble that price now ) Again just saying. Only very rich or some one showing off to there friends buy $50.00ea mag's. Keeep up the good work keeping Wilson Combat in business.
did they tell you what the problem was? did you ever have this issue again after the repairs? I want one but what good is a gun that doesn't shoot when you need it to
The # of mags should be in proportion of the price! Over $1000 most def should have 2-3. Any follow up on the fix? Way too many failures for a new gun.
I bought a Kimber Rapide Dawn 8 months ago. I put over 2000 rounds through the gun. I've had one hang up in all that time and on that one I actually did not let go of the slide fast enough on a reload and I think that was the cause of that. It has been perfect. I too thought that you should get more than one magazine, my other magazines are Wilson Combat. I have a quite a few pistols and the Rapide is by far my favorite gun. Sorry yoiu had so much trouble with yours.
Don't feel bad. I bought one of those $1200 Kimber 1911's in 45acp and spent another $300 trying to have a gunsmith make it work. It was still a POS. After having similar bad experiences with Colt I finally found one that goes bang right out of the box, first time every time. The Rock Island 1911 by Armscor is the cat's meow. I own three of them, 2 in 45 acp, one full size and one commander and one full size in 9mm. I love all 3.
My $575 RIA 1911a1 10mm had some problems out of the box. Hang up on ejected brass, failure to feed due to short stroke of the slide. The shop i purchased the hand gun from has a gunsmith in house and he did something unexpected. He lubed the Rock with a heavy dose of Schaffers Penetro 90 spray lube and had me run 100 rounds without a break. The lube bonded to the metal parts and now runs like a champ. also the 10 mm handguns have a heavy spring (20lb. on mine) to tame the 10mm cartridge's power and it goes back into battery very fast. Mine sometimes catches the fired brass before it is fully away and it will bite the ejection port damaging the lip of the brass. most of my ejected cases fly 10 to 20 feet up and to my right. Out of the box 4 lb. trigger with no creep and a very crisp break , all the bells and whistles of a $1400 weapon and mine has fully adjustable rear sight to boot. Don't give up find the Schaffers it works better than rem oil and some other brands. And you can use it on other things like your car, truck, tools.
I personally believe ANY firearm which requires a break in time is useless for self defense, I ask you this. Considering the type of jam, are you using FULL POWER 10mm ammunition? If you’re using ammunition with power factors less than 230, it could be causing it short stroke. Not all 10mm sold today is at the original 10mm power levels. I’m assuming that’s Freedom Ammunition’s 180 @1120fps? That’s about the same as a full power 40 s&w, a power factor of 201. Try some full power 10mm, Kimber 10mm should have a ramped barrel for total chamber support.
1911s are dated and obsolete. They are great for nostalgia and storytelling but for a gunfight no way. The thug looking for a fight is most likely packin a glock with 15-17 rounds and NEVER jams. $350-$400 used and designed to NEVER fail. So for protection no pistol compares in bang for your buck. Glock=perfection
I have a 1974 Colt Series 70. It’s probably had 200 rounds through it. It sat in a safe for 35 years and when I attempted to shoot it I found it was unreliable. After some research I tuned it and it’s been flawless. I’m not a 1911 expert but I found you need to work with them a bit to get them to run right. I’m glad I kept it.
Hey I'm from Humble, that's probably an extractor issue, they either put a .45 or a 9mm extractor in. Or maybe just needs tuning.. I had my Rock Island Commander size 10mm do the same thing, after about a half a box of shells, things are just rushed and to mass-produced anymore.... but that's a quality piece and very beautiful, just give it a chance, Kimber will make it right... I believe Midway makes a extractor tuner also, so you don't keep having to send it back to have it done
@@steventuck1524 Or what ? You're either too young or too stupid to know anything..... people have paid $60,000 for pickups or cars that had recalls.... nothing works 100% guaranteed kid.... specially a newly-designed gun, believe me I've been around since the 10mm Colt Delta Elite
In 1996 I bought a Kimber Slide and Frame matched set. Came with Barrel, slide, frame, and I bought a few other parts, such as sights. In 1998 they stopped selling the “build kits”. Mine is bad ass, but.. the Factory Guns that are assembly line built by workers rather than a Gunsmith…there’s probably going to be problems. You’re going to have a 300 round break in and try Tripp-Cobra Magazines. 1996 Kimber advertised their guns as a custom gun for $615.00. Inflation is a bitch.
i feel your pain brother , i have bought/sold many kimbers because they just didnt live up to the hype , i have a colt series 70 that is probably over 60 yrs old and is still the best 1911 i have ever owned , by the way i,m over 60 yrs old too ;-)
Glad you came out of Covid ok! Getting over it myself. Beautiful gun! Reviews of higher end 1911's have revealed reliability issues as well. Not saying who to be nice. Glocks and Smiths will usually out perform a 1911 in total reliability, but I'd still like to one in my collection as well just to have one.
Yea. Both my Kimbers came with one magazine. Never had a problem with them. Sounds like that they're trying to supply their demand and push their output thereby sacrificing their quality. I will never buy a Kimber until this problem is resolved You should send it back to Kimber.
I own 2 Kimbers (CDP and Eclipse), one Colt Gov't series 80 and a Springfield Ronin commander size - all in 45 ACP. Without a doubt the ONLY mags I will buy and use are the Wilson Combat 930 or 47 - 8 round type. NEVER use the stock Kimber mags, guaranteed to cause misfeeds and failure to eject. The Colt ones aren't a lot better. The SA stock mag hasn't failed - yet. I have a dozen or so of those Wilson's and they always do the job, ALWAYS!
I tell people kimbers are only counter pistols for new shooters who don’t know about guns They feel smooth but just don’t work that well I’ve heard so many problems from kimber owners it’s like why even waist your money anymore if you really want custom actually go custom not Mass produced “custom” guns
That looks like the extractor needs to be tuned and its letting go of the shell prematurely. On another note....Kimber mags are complete shit. I dont even know why kimber includes them other than to push their name out there more. At least its just one mag to throw away lol. Wilsons or tripp cobra mags are the only mags to run. There is also a break in period with these things. Rack the slide about 200 times, clean it, then rack it another 200, clean it, then do it one more time and should be good. Even 3000 dollar guns have break in periods. Its just the nature of these things. Les baer, ed brown, nighthawk, wilson, all need a break in period. Some wont even talk to you till youve put at least 500 rounds through the gun.
@@jstud999 nothing "modern" about a striker fired gun. Theyve been around over 100 years too. Gaston glock himself took john moses browning designs and other old ideas and used them in his gun. And lets not confuse the 1911 with specific models of guns. Its a platform made by a bunch of companies. Its like saying the ar15 is reliable, when there are a lot of companies who make crap. Or lumping all polymer framed striker fired guns into the same group, which now your glock is right there with keltecs and taurus and every other that made a bunch of crap that didnt work. A 1911 made right, is just as reliable as any other gun. Stick a promag in your striker fired gun and lets run 1000 rounds through it and see what happens lol.
@@jstud999 only nerve you struck is your own lol. I dont care what guns do what. I have everything from black powder to european polymer. And enjoy shooting all of them. Just simply stating some facts. Youre the one wanting to turn it i to a competition cause apparently you have an issue with facts lol. I have had glocks fail in under 300 rounds and 1911s that have yet to fail in over 2000. But i also have a glock thats never failed in 1500 rounds(covid limits some of my shooting due to ammo availability) and i have a crap 1911 that i wouldnt use as a doorstop. The thing there is all the 1911s are made by different manufacturers, while all the glocks are made by glock. Its the nature of mechanical devices. You never know when its going to fail, but every last one of them will.
My Springfield loaded 1911 .45apc is tight and I have over 1,000 rounds. No breaking ever needed and have had barely a jam w the certain expensive mags. I only paid $850 brand spanking new.
Yeah.. I had a Kimber Micro. Had some similar issues Sent it back. Customer service was fantastic. Fixed it and I wanted to love that firearm.... but it had lost its luster for me. Traded it. Got a Sig Tribal 1911 and it shot anything we fed thru it right out of the box.
That really sucks but it’s not the first time I’ve heard of Kimber quality issues. On the other hand, 3 months ago I bought a brand new Rock Island Armory 1911 FS Tactical .45 acp for right at $500 out the door. In over 500 rounds of factory and reloads it has zero malfunctions. Every round has fired, ejected and fed. Oh, and it’s as accurate as any pistol I own.
I hope kimber will start makeing better guns when they get set up in texas. I have a kimber warrior i picked up back 4 years ago and it runs awsome i havent haf one problem with it now i only have maybe 300 rounds for it because of ammo not being at stores
My local gun range, Eagle Gun Range, stopped carrying Kimbers completely because the guns spend more time in Repair than working properly in their Rental Fleet.
I have a Rapide Black Ice 10mm and use Ed Brown Mags in it. New out of the box no problems with it. Spend the money on good Mags!! Also no Matter what kind of gun I buy I always disassemble check clean and lube before my 1st range trip saves me a lot of trouble!

I on the other hand had no problem running any of the above mentioned rounds!
My real name is Michael McCluskey. When I get a failure to eject and the brass jammed in the port I just pull back on the slide and turn it over to dump the brass out. Looks like most of the “jams” were failures to extract. It appears the extractor was not properly tuned before the gun left Kimber as it failed to hold onto the case rim long enough for the ejector to kick the case free of the ejection port.
Maybe.. Lets see if Kimber can fix it.

Exactly. I had a cheap RIA 1911 before. It was pretty good.

You have to use "Wilson Combat" mags.
used many mags.. all failed.. gun was crap.
Two recommendations for you,
1. Buy Wilson Combat or Tripp Research Cobra 10mm 1911 Magazines.
2. Make sure you are not limp wristing, 10mm 1911’s are less forgiving in our vast experience.

Quick easy, can do in front of TV without burning ammunition
-Breakdown pistol and clean in the recesses firmly and thoroughly with qtips and cleaning solvent.
Failures after that probably magazine related, extractor related, or barrel fitment / profiling issues
Trying a variety of magazines may be in order, yes. Mecgar round followers vs say Wilson's flat or concave follower. My DW Specialist in 10mm HATES the Wilsons nylon follower with just about every commercial ball ammo in the 180 grain range, Runs so so with the flat metal follower. Runs well with the rounded follower Metalforms
Too much bend i/tension n the internal extractor can make it hard for a round to slip under, as can a sharp edge at the bottom. Too little tension and tit can slip off the case rim while cycling. Requires a quality steel part, not MIM of course.

Wilson mags only, stock Kimber mags are junk!
Kimber had a QC problem the 1st year and a half. It is now been fixed. Also did you bother to break it in.
I had 1 Kimber, jammed constantly. I’ll never buy another.
Tell ya what.. that CS they have is top notch
I agree, 1911s don’t like to be tight. That tight feel generally means more friction, which in a 1911 means they aren’t going to cycle as well.

I take magazine donations hahahaaa

20 years ago, I bought a Kimber Tactical II lightweight. Back then it cost $1K. I could not get that firearm to be reliable. Different ammo, magazines, polished the feed ramp etc….. I sold it and took a loss. I have not bought another Kimber 1911 since.
the QC is very hit and miss
Kimber has had serious quality control issues for the last 15 years. A local Central Florida SWAT team changed all of theirs out for Glocks. They even had Kimber Factory reps come down numerous time to replace parts.
WOW.. Im pretty bummed out about it
@@SMASHTIME I had a Kimber 1911 about 20 years ago and it was incredibly reliable and well-made.
Went to Glock in my opinion they went down hill to .
You know what the problem is? It has zero wiggle. Wiggle is required, tight tolerances destroy the concept of browning's genius.
You need to get to $2k+ class to get tight tolerances and reliabilty.
@@johnshepherd8687 It surely can be done but browning didn't foresee this I'm sure.
Its working great now
Those weight reducing holes in the slide may be contributing to your problem.
A tight 1911 like that needs a break in. The reason AKs work is because they rattle everytime you look at it. Tighter tolerance=more break in
Yeah but still it shouldnt be like this.. after 12 mags it shouldnt jam thats for sure. Even with a tight tolerance production 1911 it has to work reliably with ball ammot out of the box - hollow points should not jam either after 12 mags really.
300 rounds and it just got worse
@@SMASHTIME what do you want for it? I collect 1911s. Most of them I will never shoot, I just love them. I could use a 25th one
Im a one man show lolzz I do have a bunch of camera equipment
Not getting a spare crappy Kimber mag is no great loss. As for the titanium nitride coated barrel, I don't see the need or the benefit of this coating, nor of the cutouts in the slide, which seem to be an invitation for gunk or water to enter your pistol.
😂 it’s for looks but actually the coating is slick and will last longer than black nitride and technically the slide cuts will lower recoil by lower overall mass on the slide and as for gunk in the pistol if you carry a Rapide for self defense and crawl through the mud you are an idiot
Too little extractor tension? Burr on extractor hook?
Should not have left factory that way.

IDK!
Man 10mm is too expensive to "BREAK" in a pistol
That 10mm ammo 40 cal disguised as 10mm, or loaded the way it's supposed to be?
If failure to feed was a feature, then this one was great!!
Need to qualify previous post I meant extractor not ejector, sorry

Roger, no they had no clue i do youtube. hahahaa It would be funny if I called up.. " Dont you know who i am"? lolzz
That wasnt it buddy. It was a turd but now its amazing after they fixed it

Joe. there is something about 1911s that is just pure.
RIA 1911, 1000+ rounds no failures best and cheepest 1911 I have ever owned.
Its not the mags
It should work out of the box.. Why should i spend 500 rounds of 10mm to break it in.
@@SMASHTIME you shouldn't. After 1K rds it will still jam. Send it back then, guess what, another 1K rds. Gimme a break😤
CHEERS!
It should work out of the box.
CHEERS!
Nobody should ever run a 1911 platform pistol out of the box without cleaning and oiling it first.
Trust me it did not help with this pistol. after getting it back it ran great
Owned a raptor, it was always something, got fed up.
I have been called worse hahahaa
Overpriced and unreliable if it's unreliable won't waste any money on one a glock is much more reliable
Agree.. i will not keep a gun that is not 1000% reliable
My rock island 10mm has had zero issues so far. 16 capacity I love it. At least a few hundred rounds so far.
Same here !
I am glad I have the Rock Island 10 mm it's a double stack that comes with 15 round mags. She a big girl with a little weight but runs great.
Same, with the 6" longslide
Nothing wrong with big girls lolzz
Was the weapon properly broken in it takes 500 rounds to properly run.
That 500 rounds is a myth. I have had many 1911s and the Break in period should be maybe 20 rounds. I ran 350 very expensive 10mm rounds through it. sent it in Kimber came back working fine after they fixed it.
Say it isn’t so 🤦🏻♂️ I was just looking to get a rapide … what do u think pull the trigger?
Did get these problems resolved? Im thinking the spring is either to heavy or to light
Its back at KIMBER now. we will see
Such a love hate relationship with Kimbers!!
My sig does not. runs like a champ.
Yes .. i just think that QC is lacking the last 10 years at Kimber
did they tell you what the problem was? did you ever have this issue again after the repairs? I want one but what good is a gun that doesn't shoot when you need it to
It the follow up video i mention the list of fixes.. now it shoots like butter.
@@SMASHTIME I'll give it a watch
The # of mags should be in proportion of the price! Over $1000 most def should have 2-3. Any follow up on the fix? Way too many failures for a new gun.
agree.. and yes Kimber fixed it and its amazing now.
I got a dude for sure..
I like the RIA 1911s
Kimbers have always been overpriced pos guns and it is amazing people like their stuff. Springfield makes some.of the best production 1911s
If your brass is going 20 ft you have an extra for problem.
The 10mm in the bag was 230 grain.
Unfortunately, Kimber advises a 500 rd break in period for most of their 1911s, as well as frequent cleanings and lubing.
Thats a cop out. No gun should require that. a lot of very HIGH end guns do not and they run right out of the box.
@@SMASHTIME I agree, but its something Kimber fans/buyers need to account for... go Springfield next time my friend.
If you have the Kimber jam. Get the toast and coffee and make the best of it.
Now thats funny hahahaaa
Hey I'm from Humble, that's probably an extractor issue, they either put a .45 or a 9mm extractor in. Or maybe just needs tuning.. I had my Rock Island Commander size 10mm do the same thing, after about a half a box of shells, things are just rushed and to mass-produced anymore.... but that's a quality piece and very beautiful, just give it a chance, Kimber will make it right... I believe Midway makes a extractor tuner also, so you don't keep having to send it back to have it done
Thank you RJ. I hope they can get it going. 🙏
Wilson Combat bullet proof extractors are pricey but worth it
If you are dumb enough to pay 1500 to 4000 for a handgun...IT BETTER WORK PROPERLY JUST AS IT COMES FROM THE BOX!
Inflation is a bitch.
i feel your pain brother , i have bought/sold many kimbers because they just didnt live up to the hype , i have a colt series 70 that is probably over 60 yrs old and is still the best 1911 i have ever owned , by the way i,m over 60 yrs old too ;-)
I love SIG 1911s
I have a Kimber 10mm and the last round is tapping the slide lock and causing a FTF. You need to file a little off the protrusion on the slide lock.
There is just something about a 1911..
Boy oh boy, handguns have been working out of the box for decades, but for some reason Kimber has an issue?
Exactly
To review. Jam goes on toast, malfunctions happen to firearms.
I like that one.
Yea. Both my Kimbers came with one magazine. Never had a problem with them. Sounds like that they're trying to supply their demand and push their output thereby sacrificing their quality. I will never buy a Kimber until this problem is resolved
You should send it back to Kimber.
You aint kidding
I own 2 Kimbers (CDP and Eclipse), one Colt Gov't series 80 and a Springfield Ronin commander size - all in 45 ACP. Without a doubt the ONLY mags I will buy and use are the Wilson Combat 930 or 47 - 8 round type. NEVER use the stock Kimber mags, guaranteed to cause misfeeds and failure to eject. The Colt ones aren't a lot better. The SA stock mag hasn't failed - yet. I have a dozen or so of those Wilson's and they always do the job, ALWAYS!
I like my Springfield armory 1911 its good enough for me paid about 600 dollars 25 or so years ago still going strong
Gary Springfield makes a great 1911
I tell people kimbers are only counter pistols for new shooters who don’t know about guns
They feel smooth but just don’t work that well I’ve heard so many problems from kimber owners it’s like why even waist your money anymore if you really want custom actually go custom not
Mass produced “custom” guns
Kimber makes good mags. Never have had a problem with a Kimber mag.
My Springfield loaded 1911 .45apc is tight and I have over 1,000 rounds. No breaking ever needed and have had barely a jam w the certain expensive mags. I only paid $850 brand spanking new.
Yeah.. I had a Kimber Micro. Had some similar issues
Sent it back. Customer service was fantastic. Fixed it and I wanted to love that firearm.... but it had lost its luster for me. Traded it. Got a Sig Tribal 1911 and it shot anything we fed thru it right out of the box.
LOVE SIG!!!!
@@SMASHTIME I do too. I was a Glockfan until I got my first Sig. Then again, never had an issue with a Heritage either so...lol
Same here. My RIA 10mm runs flawlessly out of the box. My Kinber 10mm TLE has occasional issues. WTF?
Armscor does fantastic work.
A year later and my RIA 1911 Tactical stills runs 100% with whatever I feed it. Armscor builds amazing firearms!
I hope kimber will start makeing better guns when they get set up in texas. I have a kimber warrior i picked up back 4 years ago and it runs awsome i havent haf one problem with it now i only have maybe 300 rounds for it because of ammo not being at stores
I just ran the first 200 rds thru my rapide scorpius 9mm. Zero issues. It is definitely the best pistol I've ever shot.
My local gun range, Eagle Gun Range, stopped carrying Kimbers completely because the guns spend more time in Repair than working properly in their Rental Fleet.
I know it. that seems to be a common trend
I have a Rapide Black Ice 10mm and use Ed Brown Mags in it. New out of the box no problems with it. Spend the money on good Mags!! Also no Matter what kind of gun I buy I always disassemble check clean and lube before my 1st range trip saves me a lot of trouble!
Its not the mags. trust me
@@SMASHTIME ok then I would have them check the ejector and tune it mine runs Magtec, Fiochi, Blazerbrass, and Buffalo Bore with no problems. Sorry about Your problems brother I hope you can work them out with Kimber! On that note measure the brass for the width of the rim my brother in law had a problem with his RIA 10MM with certain brass because it was wider than others and had multiple FTF and FTE! I on the other hand had no problem running any of the above mentioned rounds!
Glock 20. I love it. Zero issues so far with any of my Glocks.
Also had great luck with several RIA guns.
I can’t say the same for Sig
Shot it. Nice gun
My wife works at a gun store, they quit selling kimber years ago because they got tired of sending them back. All form, no function.
Agreed
My real name is Michael McCluskey. When I get a failure to eject and the brass jammed in the port I just pull back on the slide and turn it over to dump the brass out. I do have a 1911 45acp handgun. 5 7 round standard magazines, and 2 after market 10 round mags. I also have a Cobra Patriot 45 handgun. It came with a 6 round magazine but will accept 1911 mags.
