Good review as always. I bought the Scorplus a couple months ago in 9mm. Hundred rounds out the box no malfunctions. Then mirror polished rails, feed ramp, and chamber. 1020 round count now not a single malfunction with McGar, Kimber, Wilson, and Pro Mag mags (eat your heart out Glock). If your listening Kimber I'll gladly give up the fancy hard case for a cardboard box and an extra mag. I call it my Barbecue gun for those back yard get togethers.
Yes, an additional mag would be nice. And again, Glock is going..
My Rapide Scorpius (in 45) arrived yesterday. I put 50 rounds through it, and it shot flawlessly. The RSO's at my range, who are not Kimber fans, put some rounds through it and grudgingly admitted that they were impressed. My only complaints, which are very minor, are that there's a tiny bit of creep in my trigger, and that I would prefer it if the G10 grips were a bit rubberier.
Sarge: all of your observations were spot on. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for watching Bro. Shoot safe
Great video. Of my 1911's, I have two Kimbers. One is a Stainless II and the other a Raptor II, both in .45 acp. both shot well after 200-300 rounds, The Stainless II needed the extractor tuned but otherwise a great shooter that I have carried. I sold the Raptor as it was too "gimmicky" for me. I think Kimber makes good 1911's but for me the Rapide line has too much "bling" for my taste. I prefer the spur hammer, standard grip safety, 5" barrel in .45 acp. My daily carry is a 42 year old Colt Government Mk IV Series 70 in .45 acp. My second favorite is a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec in .45 acp. Everything you need and nothing you don't. But that's just my opinion.
I like the Springfields as well. Thanks for watching
I’m actually wondering now if there are any grip safeties with the extended hump at the bottom (which I find much easier to disengage) that’s also compatible with a spur hammer. All the ones I’ve found also has a swept beavertail with a commander hammer, including my gun.
That’s fine, but it’d be nice to have options for a spur hammer so I could cock it on a draw but also include the extended grip safety that’s easier to use.
Same here with a kimber custom ii. 250 rounds and it shot well finally.

I subscribe because you keep it real and I like how you explain and describe your opinions of these guns. You seem genuine. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, Q dog. That is what ibtry to do. Thanks for watching
Good evaluation SGT. You are absolutely correct about the one
magazine issue. Keep up the good work!👍😊🇺🇸
Thanks Harry
I have this Rapide Scorpius and It's a great exterior look and feels amazing in the hands.
Thanks for watching
I bought one of these last year. It's been a great gun. I've only ever had 2 FTF. (I tried out a cheaper brand of ammo and NONE of my four Kimbers liked it) I emptied the magazine and replaced it with the ammo I usually use (Blazer) and I never had an issue since. I guess I've been lucky as I've not had any other issues than the one I mentioned above. But, regarding the Scorpius Rapide: I absolutely love it. It's accurate and beautiful to boot. Whenever I go to the range, someone asks me about it.
I agree they are nice
In Texas they would call this - as has been mentioned - a BBQ or a Sunday gun. That's the fancy gun you wear out to nice places or fancy company.
I've been lucky with my Kimbers; once they're broken in, they've done just fine by me. I have a Pro Carry II in my EDC rotation, and based on all the rounds I've put through it I trust it. Freely admit that I see other folks reporting lots of problems with them, though.
Well Wolf, I agree with you 100%. I have had more than my share of problems with Kimbers, untill they are worn some. Then. They are 100% reliable. We all need the practice anyway. Thanks for watching
Scorpius will make a fine playmate to my Eclipse Target II and Two Tone Crimson Carry. I regret missing the Master Carry Custom but this pretty SOB will suffice. Hoooah SGT1911 for this video!
Thanks for watching
SGT, if it shoots as good as it looks it is going to be Badass buddy! I love the way it looks! Beautiful SGT👍
It is nice
Love the honesty. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching
Looks like a little more show than go, but you're right, with a proper break in it should be ready for whatever you need. 👍👍
exactly
The malfunctions of a new 1911 will teach a person's hands to clear malfunctions on most any semi auto pistol without thought.
The ARX poly ammo will make any handgun lighter to carry.A shoulder holster is the best way for me to carry a 1911.
I have tried shoulder holsters, not for me. Thanks for watching
love your reviews man always honest and no bullshit. Some things I have done to remedy the subconsciously engaging the safety is I started riding the safety lever and have made that a practice and it also will help mitigating recoil
Thanks for the comment
That is one beautiful defensive tool! Wow. Minus the oil. That looks like fine looking Kimber! Looks like my Kimber Rapide with the gold colored barrel and different colored grips.
Love your Video's SGT 1911!
Thanks for watching
10:27 I have a kimber eclipse custom 2 which has this same brushed finish just less gussied up. It has a little over 1000 rounds through it. It has bumped up on other guns, brass casings, mags etc and she still looks good.
Sounds nice. Thanks for watching
it looks cool! I like it Sarge! cya on the next one!
Thanks for staying with me Eddie. Stay safe
Good review Sarge. My first (and last) Kimber was loaded with problems. Couldn't even pull one round out of the factory magazine. Kimber fixed it, and I've only had a few failures now, but I was expecting a gun of that cost to perform a little better. I was also put off by the single magazine. I generally run Wilson mags, but still, I drive a car that cost less than my Kimber, the magazines are cheap pieces of junk, but put two magazines in the box.
I agree. just plain cheap asses
I have a 10 year old Kimber Ultra CDP2, 3” barrel, and had many ftf’s, sent it back and they polished the feed ramp and opened up the chamber a couple thousands. Not much of an improvement. Then I saw a video where Bill Wilson said 1911’s were not designed for a 3” barrel and one would be advised to shoot 185gr bullets out of those compact guns and not a 230gr bullet. Well old Bill was correct. He knows his stuff. I am now well trained it the art of instantaneously smacking the back of the slide to bring the pistol into battery. I guess that’s a good byproduct of owning a Kimber. I just bought a Sig P320 9mm and have had no issues, it runs like a Swiss watch.
Excellent comment. Thanks for watching
i just picked one of these up yesterday put 100 rounds through it had one ftf but the rest ran great so far love it
It is a Kimber. The more you shoot it, the better it will get.
Hey Sarge, You could use that oil for your next oil change in your car. Absolutely NO reason for all that oil. She is a pretty pistol but I am not a Kimber fan. Too much bling for me. Too expensive for what you get also. But, you did a fine job as always. Thank You for your service and God Bless Sir!
Thanks, Bill. Stay safe
Stay safe Bill
They don't really need a break In period. They need the extractors tuned and recoil springs replaced. Kimber almost never gets that right. They usually work fine after that.
why replace something that a little time will fix. Money for nothing. Thanks for watching.
Absolute facts regarding tuning the extractor. My Kimber Eclipse Target Custom needed the tune on the extractor. Is the Scorpius as heavy as the Eclipse?
i have a rapide that is brand new and also failing to return to battery. i have to push it a little... my thought is the same as yours...
more bullets please!!!
i have the 9, 45, and i just ordered a black ice 10mm. sort of wish i had gotten the Scorpius now. love the look.
they tell me I'm allowed to want them to be pretty too!!!
You can polish the feed ramp, and it will stop the problem. Or, just keep shooting. I polish mine most of the time. I find it irritating to just keep pushing the slide forward. Shoot safe.
@@SGT1911 thank you sir! I'm still a noob. the community has been AMAZING.
i subbed after watching your first video. you were the inspiration for my 1911 fetish!!!
you are appreciated! 👍🖖
I'm a noob too but was wondering your opinion if you have both the 9 and 45, I can't choose between the two as some say the 9 shoots better without getting caught up but well 45 is a 45
Thanks Bro. I appreciate it
I always pick a 45
Nice gun but that's a lot of bucks but might have to get one.
Remember the break-in. Thanks for watching
I keep hearing from my buddies not to get a limber as they are junk. Then others like the brand. I like your reviews because your honest.
Thanks, Goatmunk. I will tell what i think, some like it, some don't. it is how i see it,
I'm going to buy in on this , I've heard complaints on every firearms company from every Tom Dick and Harry and if I took all that advice I wouldn't have a single firearm to my name. Now they all have had some sort of issue at some point but the bottom line is this , it's better to find out the truth for your self because my taste buds don't lie 🤜🤛😎
@@waynecastleman1363 you are right there
@@SGT1911 I think a lot of Kimber complaints are couch potato B.S and never owned one ! And I've personally known such people. They require a break in and that's the truth . Now I do hear they are under new management so for those that have had a lack of customer service maybe it will get better. The old manager went to SIG I understand.
LOL we will see
My policy on Kimber mags is trash can and use your Wilson combats and all will be well. The only fact Kimber I had was a raptor in stainless steel and it was a fine pistol after a 100 rds break in. Always enjoy your reviews keep the coming
Thanks for watching
The thing with slide lightening is you have to take time to adjust the springs in order to achieve your desired effect. The companies just don’t have the time to tune mid range 1911. Competitors will take a lot of time to tune it to their individual requirements. And that is also the caveat, expectations serve the individual. Cuts work for competition. Now on an edc or service weapon cuts could be detrimental in the fact that they are an avenue for debris or any other environmental hazard into the firearm that could lead to a stoppage or cause damage to the firearm. While not overly likely it would happen I wouldn’t bet my life on it, Browning knew what he was doing when he designed the original.
As to the function of your Kimber, polish the disconnector and then take a recoil spring from one of your 1911 that are broken in and this Kimber will run great. Kimbers springs are the main issue and not the ramp or slide, they use very stiff material in their springs; they run very well after the springs take their set(99% of the time).
Thanks Bro. I have been shooting them a long time. They all will run fine with a little patience. Except their Solo when it came out. Thanks for watching.
That is a beautiful 1911 but it's a little too fancy and flashy over my personal taste. The first thing I was thinking about on that finish was how difficult it would be to maintain that look and still use it. You really seem to know what you're talking about with the 1911. I was looking at a buddies '50s 1911 Gold cup Colt that he got from his father-in-law. It just looked and felt perfect to me. What's your opinion of the Colt gold cup blued with wood grips? New and old? That's what I'm thinking about buying. I appreciate your advice thank you 👍
I think the 1911 is the finest semiautomatic handgun ever made the the Gold Cup is one the the best. The only thing I like to make sure people understand is that 1911's needs to be shot. It needs to have a break-in period to mate every part perfectly. Gold Cup 👍
@@SGT1911 Thank you and I do plan on shooting it. I even plan to reload for it to save money so I can shoot it more. Lol I've never held a pistol in my hand that feels better than a 1911 it just seems to match my hand and forearm just perfect very natural pointing pistol in my opinion. My second favorite is the Ruger Mark 1 22 pistol My father had one of those that we used to match you with when I was a kid and that's just a supernatural pointing pistol too but I grew up with it in the first time I picked up a 1911 I was a holy s*** this is perfect! Thank you 👍

A little bit slicker than most indeed! They really lathered that bad boy
It is noticeable
Thank you for the great review! I had the chance to check one of these out at my local Cabela's today. I love the finish on it. I don't know if I've ever seen a shiny black, mirror matte finish like that before. The lightning cuts on the slide, besides being cosmetic, could possibly allow the barrel to cool down faster? Also the grips on this thing are very ergonomic, very comfortable. Thank you for your honest review!
It may cool a little faster. Thanks for watching
For the cost, imo, it has 2 strikes right out the box. 80 series, and the ambi safety.
I agree 100%
Rapides are 70 series
Kimber has always been iffy in quality control. Some people swear by them, other people swear at them. They look nice but gimmicky. They don't pay attention "under the hood" so to speak. They really need to tighten their QC so that it is expected to work right out of the box.
In the mid 90s when they first sold 1911, they raised the bar by giving things right from the factory that everyone buying a Colt or Springfield had to pay extra for through a gunsmith. Kimber installed beavertail, nice aluminum trigger, undercut, front checkering, nice sights, and they sold well. Now they are one of the biggest sellers of 1911s. But they are not a custom shop. They don't make 1911s up to custom grade standards, and they dont make them consistently well. Some are good. Some not so much.
100%, they are not custom. When we think custom, we need to think custom fit and finish, a real operator. Not custom "looking"
Hell with that kimber I want me one of them there lumi knocks that way I’ve got something I can bank my life on….just havin fun ol buddie…hope you get an eclipse to show…or super jager…only 2 I kinda like…actually love all firearms..knives….watches…wildlife…America..

They heard how you shoot your guns dry, so they tried to "steal a march" on you by sending it out all oily. It's strategic.
Lol. You know that. I think AFTER it has been cleaned once there is enough oil. But I need to pit a few drops on them for sure
Good thing it's not a 10mm I have two Kimber 10mms they were bad with ftf love your videos great job

Ive had my eyes on the black ice and then the scorpio when it came out. Only reason I've held back is the reviews about kimber issues. I decided to go with a colt gold cup trophy. No regrets there but man I do like that black ice. So you believe or more so know it will work the bugs out. I dont recall other people saying that stuff they mostly trash it. Will you be doing a long term review like 1000 round or more part two update. Im curious to see how it runs. Speaking of the one mag. What are your filings on kimber mags some say they are trash and cause the issues and recommend after market. Thanks for the no bs straight talk reviews.

1:35 YEAH, WHAT THE FLYING F*CK, RIGHT? I just picked up my RAPIDE Black Ice, have a Dawn and Scorpius in 10mm coming too. I picked up, on an impulse, a Beretta 92x Carry Optics. That literally came with everything to play; two mags, optics plate (supposedly universal) and a case that clearly was custom made for Beretta (not going to lie, don't think it's full custom since it looks similar to the Walther q5 black diamond case, but is super nice, and has a combo lock on it. 1900 USD gun, with NOTHING and a cheap PLANO looking case.
I have a Beretta case like that for my performance model. Nice case. Where is the mag Kimber?
@@SGT1911 I'll stick with European guns then. What model did you get, the Performance Defense? For 1600, I expect something more. Also, not loving the look of the Kimber up close (on my Black Ice), almost looks cheap. With how sharp the lines are, could use some beveling to class it up more. This just screams LASER CUTTER. Has an odd Committee feel to it. Where the Beretta has a class to it, curves in all the right places.

SG 1911,,,, I bought a Kimber Micro 9 Nightfall about a month ago. It's odds that you talked about the oil that was on your pistol. My Micro was oiled down the same way and it took 30 minutes to clean it. I wanted to shoot and not clean when buying a new gun.

Hey sarge can you do a video comparing the sig emp scorpion vs the rapide scorpius
I can. Give me a few Days
Purchased this pistol due to it's aesthetics. Despite it's features - the fit n finish was piss poor. I have a Tisas SS 45R that is better assembled. Oh, by the way, it came with 2 mags, too. This is why I prefer Dan Wesson firearms when it comes to paying a premium price on a production model 1911.
As you know I am also disappointed in the one magazine I got with this handgun. My experience with Tisas has not been good. I admit mine is an older model, and the comment has been made the newer ones are much improved. Thanks for watching
Mines didn't come with all of that oil. It was oiled a little more than most. But yours look like that sat it in a tub of oil

Hey Sarg. Looking to replace my safety on my scorpion. I shoot riding the safety and want to replace it with a wide one. Do you know who makes the widest and best safety?
Wilson Combat Bullet Proff. You may need to fit it some.. Safeties are notorious for needing fit.
Not enough capacity. Just another downside why you "Never" carry or depend on the 1911 platform
How many rounds d do you need? One 45 is the same as two 9mm, or better if you can shoot. Thanks for watching
@Ray Trammell is right on Ray. I have carried a 1911 for 40 years. Almost EVERY DAY. If you need more ammo, most likely it is because you missed or were using something too small. Practice is the answer. I like to say, "8 rounds ot 45 from a 1911 will do 12 bad guys, shoot 8, pistol whip one and the others are running" capacity is only needed when you miss or shouldn't be there anyway
Well i was hoping for once to see a kimber not fail. ive seen so many problems with them. when spend 1600 on a 1911 it should be smooth as silk and accurate. ill never buy one
